This will be a good year, or else!

Started up depression/anxiety meds, and they're slowly kicking in. Good days last for longer, and bad days seem less frequent. Still have bad times where it's like "welp this day is shot", but it's progress.

Trying to get back into writing properly, and the improved energy/motivation levels should help. Need to finish Perchance rather than letting it languish.

That said, the sort of obsessive brainrot I leaned into while trying to come out of my funk is another setting called COMPANION. I may have done pokes at it here before? My settings tend to be iterative, where I come back to them with renewed purpose and refinement until they're actually good.

It is a world where Divinely Chosen Heroes are a thing. A mortal may receive a fluffy fairy companion(generally a nimbat sort of shape, but less eye and a floofy tail instead of an otter one), who takes them to a shrine to properly become a Hero. Linked up with the power of the heavens greatly amplifying their natural magic, they go on mighty quests and save the day.
Being me and my love of Reconstruction style stories, this premise gets taken apart in short order to show that there's definitely some problems under the hood, but it's still a positive one where cool things can happen.

The protagonist is NERI, a human of ambiguous gender who lives on a backwater port island. She has a problem, specifically that her little orphan friend THEO has manifested his werewolf heritage and gone all fluffy. Due to general misunderstandings of 'all werewolves go crazy in the end' and not wanting to deal with the situation, he ends up locked in a cage by monster hunters to be shipped off to the mainland, possibly for spare parts.
Neri tries to free him, fails, and runs off to the Shrine of the Hero in a huff, demanding the power to set things right and help people in need. Whether heaven has chosen or not, they need to do something.
And so Neri receives... a transformation into a fluffy companion.

This is a stringpull that destabilizes the setting at large, being the wrong person in the right place.
* Mortals are not supposed to be able to become Divine
* Companions aren't usually the magical blasty type, rather empowering their hero.
* Vigilante justice is frowned upon in the first place, given the structure.
Thus, a laser spewing, spectral fist smashing nimbat with chronic hero syndrome is deeply alarming to many, many people. You can't do that. You shouldn't exist. People will get the wrong idea. What even are you?

It has a sort of Out Of Placers(Oops!) feel where the characters tend to be people who are uniquely suited for their current situation while absolutely wanting to be Anywhere else. Weaponized awkwardness and making things right because no one else will. Also a bit of a Xenogears setting unravel of "the world you are presented is not how it looks behind the scenes". Add a touch of My Hero Academia inspirational "You too can be a hero!", and you're in for a good time. Lots of lasers and pewpewpew, at the very least.

This has been 36 Sun Wobbles. The circle is now complete. When I began I was but a furry, but now I am the furry. Or something.

Working on getting back into Perchance. Writers block seems to have faded into brainrot about novel-sized stories that I'm not ready to create yet, but having 3am writing thoughts(I CAN FEEL IT) is better than "ugg that's no good".

Doctor's appointment on the 24th to get back on brain meds, so that should help a lot. Money is still tight, but this doctor should be reasonably cheap.

I pondered a videogame idea, somewhat tangential to Look Outside. This one is more of an evolving circumstances simulator, about making a cozy place for guests as the world around them becomes hostile and eldritch. Transformational, of course, because humans are good resources, and perhaps they enjoy becoming little cats and stuffed animals rather than tall featherless bipeds.

Hey all, hanging in here. Brain has been mostly mellow and uninspired. Not quite art block, but that sort of writing out a paragraph and going 'no that doesn't seem good' sort of bleh.

Hope you all are doing well. What sort of moods(tf or otherwise) have you been in lately? Perhaps other ideas can churn the meat.

Sorry for the continued absence here, the week continued to escalate with housemate drama. General summary with no names involved:
* The house is a furry rescue sort of house; 2 IT furries that decided to use their money to help others in need. They are super great and very caring. I was the first rescue, but we recently got two others. We'll call them R1 and R2.
* R1 is reclusive and frequently tired from the absurd bus commute she has to her job. R2 is a mid-functioning autistic who is generally a "are you okay, do you need a hug" sort. Both recovering from past abuse, co-dependent relationship.
* There was a minor noise violation, Houseowner 2 having a happy fun twitch stream with laughter and such. Triggering to R2. Upon discussion, she agreed she'd try and keep it down, worked to install soundproofing, etc.
* Within the span of 36 hours, this had escalated into a paranoid psychotic break of R2. Lashing out insults, cornering me in the bathroom door to tell me I was a horrible person for trying to help, etc. Very much a 'previously abused person reverts to abusive behavior'. Not a situation where anyone felt safe. Houseowner 1 left to be with friends rather than stay in the house, etc.
* R2 is now gone, in a "fine I'll just leave" huff. R1 is being reclusive in her room processing.

So yeah, all this, mixed with being the shoulder to cry on for everyone in the house. Flaw discovered of being the emotional caregiver: if the house has drama, everyone needs care at once. Went about 36 hours before the brain finally realized sleep was better than freaking out, and now it is tomorrow.
All that on top of the battery in the car being dead, so being trapped in the place while it happened.

Woooooo! We're having fun.

Mostly it's just a weird feeling of 'i'm sorry WHAT?' about the whole affair. It's one thing to see a crazy person, but another to see it in someone who just a few days ago was kind and caring.
So yeah. I will be back in a writing state eventually, but not right now. Hope you all are doing better.

I try to keep things to the happy TF here, but honestly? Shit is fucked in America. Currently we have Texas actively declaring that they will rewrite the boundaries of districts to favor themselves on an off year, based on no data other than "we want to win, and we want you to lose". Having been reminded in the public sphere that the Cheeto is a pedophile, justice is just kinda... they're redacting his name from the files. You see? It wasn't there haha!
And like... at what point are we allowed to get rid of the predators in our management? The sociopaths who care not for humanity, only for their own numbers. At what point are we allowed to fight for our own future?
I feel rebellion coming, I hear it in the sound of silence. These clowns who have never learned history forget that laws are there to protect them too. That when the social contract is disbanded, there is nothing stopping the prey from defending themselves.

It's amusing to think of them as predators, because honestly they're more like guinea pigs. They're ravenous poopmonsters. They eat, and shit, and steal food from someone else because obviously it's good if another guinea pig wants it. They're so dumb. They can't think five feet in front of their face, and all that ever enters their brain is the desire to have more. To consume.
Guinea pigs are nature's little happy meal. They only survive in the wild when they are allowed to breed rampantly, like a cancer. They rail about being put in a cage, not realizing it is the only thing keeping them from being eaten.

Above all else... we can do better.
The American idea of "getting the best deal" has always felt awful to me. When you go to the store, do you buy single-ply toilet paper? Of course you don't. It's awful. It doesn't even do what it says it will. Life is too short for single-ply toilet paper.

We can, and should, do better.
We should make a society that we are proud of. That may cost us more in the short term, but stands the test of time. We should make a society that we don't even know who will live in it, 100, 200 years from now. But that it will still be there, supporting them. Caring for them. Ensuring that this shit doesn't happen again.

Feel free to speak your thoughts and feelings. Your voice matters. You matter. Do not let them make you into a number.
Above all else, I want to be here for you. To be at least some light in the darkness. For when my thoughts turn to darkness, I find light in you all, and that means so much more than you can imagine. Maybe it's just a silly artwork you did, a little thing you wrote, but you matter. You make a difference.

Be the lighthouse.

So yeah, the thing that everyone knew was going to happen but hoped really wouldn't happen did. Just a general statement of be safe out there, protest safely, and be there for each other.

People seem to like the Load Game ideas! Always good to make something that resonates.
LG1: Jerry and Todd find a save game pylon in a videogame store. Of course, people tend to save games before critical route choices, and accidentally loading a file results in them popping into a game right before the option to become donkeys forever. So they do it, of course.
LG2: Back in their own timeline, this time they choose to load a game for FUN. This one about happy sex drones sounds fun. Exhilirating, if nothing else.

I'm curious if you have ideas as to what good save files would be for them(or others) to explore next! The sort of "people saving their game right before touching the obvious tf trigger" kind of things. Had one suggestion for itemization in the comments, but you all have such good ideas.

* Club TF - A cool nightclub with strangely anthro workers. Slinky lizard poledancers and satyr bartenders. A business party who need to become animals. A sad nimbat drinking their sorrows away. Meet the dragon of the dancefloor! Currently about 70% done.
* Palace of Change - A second person story showing a cool TF dungeon, and wandering through each themed tf hall. Currently done: Hall of Beasts, Artifice, Toys. Still to do: Hall of Display, Gender, Character.

Don't Look Outside is done! A more wholesome take on Look Outside(A neat body-horror sort of tf game on Steam). Perspective based TFs, where observing and being observed by the giant eyeball in the sky changes you based on why you're looking at it.


Still figuring out small bills here and there. Not really sure about making a patreon, since I'm still not quite mental healthy enough to challenge the comm backlog, and it feels bad doing things like that if I can't get my own house in order.

Still working on the compilation. For those who haven't seen the teaser stories, it's a more wholesome take on Look Outside, a body-horror tf video game(CW: Body Horror/Gore) about people turning into monsters if they look at a giant eldritch visitor in the sky outside, and living life in an apartment complex dungeon of mutating people.

Mine's a bit cozier, with the Visitor instead trying to help people with their problems, only to accidentally give them new long term problems(transformation) to beat their current short-term issues. Your food poisoning is cured, now you're a goat person. People change based on their mental concepts of what is associated with the problem or what would solve it, so what they become is also affected by their mental state and upbringing.

Currently done-ish/needs editing:

* (Don't)/Look/Outside: Three part intro section with Mama Bear TF.
* Hello Person: When the cat outside needs help dealing with being a person. Cat Uplift, M>Feral Cat.
* Clothes to You: Sometimes you just want to be clothes to your boyfriend. Inanimate/Clothes, MtF Fox.
* Cock-Eyed(POSTED): If your libido has always gotten the better of you, why not let it be in charge? CTF, UDTF, Merging.
* Focus: Telescope scientists attempt to examine the visitor carefully, fail hilariously. M>Animate Telescope, Mouse MtF Shrinking, F>Slinky, M>Yarn.
* Snug(POSTED): Sheltering in the apartment of the stuffed animal collector is different when they've become the stuffed animal. Plush Snake Sleeping Bag, M>Null Fox Plush, Hypnosis.
* Achieved Sleepover: Three friends trapped in a house attempt to have a sleepover, mildly affected by their own ideas of what a sleepover means. 2M/1F > 3F Teenage Anthro > 3F Preteen Anthro, Clean, AR, Weight Loss.

Pondering:

* Dogma: A pastor and an old lady ponder the meaning of religion in the face of a TF apocalypse. Sometimes you just need to be the good boy you want to see in the world. Feral Dog, Anthro Lamb. Possibly a lion?
* Medical Excuse: No, they're NOT going into work tomorrow, no matter what the boss says. Even if they have to turn into an animal to get away with it. Aren't you gonna join? Feral/Wild animals, Willing/Intentional.
* Little John Cultist: The more occult minded members of the apartment complex have gathered to get their mindscape in exactly the right place before opening the skylight to the library. Soon, they shall transcend! Or they would if they weren't goobers. They'll certainly change, at least. Silly, TFs going wrong, Book TF.
* Talk To Me: An opinionated human has decided their real problem is that they can't give the giant eyeball in the sky a piece of their mind. They're going to talk with the creature, and make it understand. Eldritch, Serial TF.

Things I know I need:

* FtM
* Splitting
* Kinda wanna turn someone into a bookend, but like a split one where half is on one side of the books and half is on the other. They can read the books that are placed between them.

* (Don't) Look Outside - Based on the body horror tf game that came out(great art, really cool if you like body horror); something in the sky is mutating people who look at it. People trapped inside deal with the changes and the people changed around them.
My version is less Unending Agony from changing, and more that The Visitor sees all this emotional trouble and people screaming about its appearance, and wants to make things better. Alas, the only way it can is by changing people, and so it changes them in a way that solves their immediate problem, while leaving the permanent transformation as an entirely new, much longer term problem. Your food poisoning is cured by turning into a super healthy goat person! Now you just have to deal with being a goat person.

* Princess Sitting - The kingdom is conquered, and the warlord is in charge. Now the warlord's champion must keep the captured princess safe, so she can be used as a bargaining chip. He... is not good with children, and is ill at ease. But she shows him kindness and or helps him turn into a friendly dragon, while making the warlord into a dumb reptilian warbeast.

* Retail - A retail worker, at their wits end, starts turning into a blissed out dog girl. Their coworkers quickly get on board with this idea, even as the manager insists they get back to work and stop turning him into a slutty pig girl.

* Drone Survival 2 - Exploring the mutant infested town and rescuing people(to turn into drones, of course).

* Chaperone - A chaperone on a field trip to a (happy wholesome) Pleasure Island analogue learns to get in touch with their inner child and/or feral animal.

* Perchance 2 Wake chapter 14 - Combat training, and a deep discussion of the magical mechanics of combat spells, projectile spells, and how to fight like a Dreamer. Pew pew worldbuilding!

Bouncing between stories as I job search. Next chapter of Perchance, a followup to Reality Rift that grew well beyond its container, and a happy drone story about people eagerly transcending the flesh.

Mostly I wanted to do a pulse check, and see what sort of stories you're more interested in! I've noticed that there tend to be more favorites for the kinky stuff, but the people who like things like Perchance are super into it. Breadth versus depth.

I don't have like a fancy poll, but which of the general topics are you looking forward to?

* Perchance to Wake chapters. Clean urban fantasy about people transforming to explore the world beneath their apartment. Not just saving the world, but building a better one along the way.

tl;dr I will be travelling across the country to those who care, in a place where the jobs still exist. It will be a long trip, but one with light at the end of the tunnel.

I will not be with a computer or writing(but I can look on phone to check comments and the like) for a week or so. I intend to finish the last bits of Boy Shrine, and post the half of the Perchance chapter I have done tonight.

Right now my main concern is gas to get there, as it's about $280 to make the trip. I won't really need money once I'm there, which is a big step up. Soon things will be better, and stable, and I can exist rather than struggling to exist.

I'm deeply grateful for all that you have done, and the thoughts of those who enjoy my work have kept me going in dark times. Soon I will be back with you all, and we can make merry together once more.

For those who fear, this is NOT a suicide note. I am tired, but having a way forward is inspiring in a way that is hard to express. Spite is powerful, but spite with a goal is warming. I'm going to live, and I hope to live long and share my company with you once more.

Had a little back and forth with the aunt, in regards to care and getting to a better place. I'll spare you the actual post because it does not speak highly of her, and I'd like to think that if you don't have nice things to say, you shouldn't say it, but honestly I'm tired.

In this case, I'll say the general not nice things.
* It is amazingly disrespectful to tell me all the sorts of medical/emotional care I need, and act like I can afford it.
* I do not need to be told that God has a plan for me when those who preach the word of God speak words and perform no actions.
* I definitely don't get to fucking choose to have a good day when I am depressed and ill. I spent Thursday morning recovering from a seizure. No major damage, but hours with the neck and right shoulder just shaking themselves into more and more pain. I do not get to choose to make that go away, and I certainly don't have the money to pursue care to even attempt to make it go away.
* I do not want to hear from someone going on a fucking cruise in a month that life is about looking on the sunny side.

They come from a world where gumption and hard work are rewarded. I do not. I come from a world where I cannot have nice things.

I do, in fact, have a nice bed for my back, and it was very helpful. I earned it with my own money. Where is it? At dad's house, in the attic. I couldn't take it to Alaska, and I don't have room in the BnB. Where is the nice recliner I had? In his guest room, because chairs are more important than people.
I sold my car to go to Alaska to work, and that was the dealbreaker from the company there was my lack of transportation.
Dad suggested that to pay the rent, I should sell the rustbucket I saved up to get this year. Actual meaningful progress that allows me to look for jobs that need transportation, that allows me to function in society, and he wants me to throw it away for survival.
He's not coming to visit this weekend. He's going on vacation.

Why should I keep applying for jobs that will not hire me? Why should I seek help when all I get are thoughts and prayers from people who have everything? Hard work is not rewarded, and progress is put on the altar of sacrifice for continued survival.

I'm afraid one of these days I won't be able to pick myself back up again.

Aunt/Uncle paid around 2/3 of the first 1/2 of the month's rent as a christmas/birthday present, which combined with what I had was like $20 short of the bill. Which... I mean I'm grateful, I'm so grateful to all of you who've kept me alive, I'm just really tired too.
Having them look over my health symptoms since they come from a more medical side of the world than I do, to see their thoughts. I think the talk would end up being "why aren't you on disability?" into "disability requires a doctor's firm diagnosis which costs money".
EDIT: I figured some people would want to see the symptom chart I wrote, so here it is. Few people are doctors, but I'm sure there are doctor furries out there.

Anyway, sorry to drag down the mood. Happy new year! Happy nude deer. Everyone is going to be fluffy animals, or else.

Perchance to Wake chapter is halfway there. I pondered a Happy Lewd Year story where four friends combine their kinks for a 24-hour transformation of "hold nothing back". I think the last bit I needed was "But what's a four-legged, inanimate TF that's being controlled by a lava lamp?", which is a unique sentence.

EDIT: Interview went about as well as it could have. They seemed to warm up over the course of it. Missed a few questions, but hopefully enthused them with technical knowledge and problem solving skills.

Haven't heard back from Microsoft, but I have a proper skills/team lead interview tomorrow. It was today, but an office emergency moved it up(not the first time I've seen this, but it's still that feeling of "oh I'll just get super ready again"). Interview is for a CyberSec sort of SaaS company. Established, large, hiring for two roles(entry/mid) for issue resolution and devops work.
Another place was like "we like you can you do an interview... 12/5?" Holiday scheduling fun.
Not sure if Thanksgiving's gonna happen; $20 short on gas money and having food to eat to be strong for interviews takes priority. Hasn't really been this much to be thankful for this year anyway, has there?

Still plodding along. A foot in the door at Microsoft, a local role that will get back "soon". Slow rolling stuff that leaves me drained and hopeless.

Trying to push forward. Bank did a dumb where it just let a check go through despite being overdrawn, and now I have a negative to try and claw back from(doesn't help they charged absurd overdraft fees when they could have just bounced the check). Prescriptions are petering out despite being rationed. Hopefully something comes through.

Job searching is slow and sad. Even had a posting be like "600,000 software roles have been laid off over the last 2 years, and we know it's hard for you and want you to keep a stiff upper lip". Like thanks, but still yikes.

Current hurdles: Phone is cutting off tomorrow. Car payment in 4 days. Rent is paid for the time being, but food is not.

All they have to do is reach back and be like "yes this resume is delicious we want you to work for us" Apparently that's too hard for the big companies to do.
