2020-Decade in Review
Posted 5 years agoIt's been 4 years since I've done a journal entry here. It would honestly surprise me if anyone ever saw this entry at this point in time.
The last decade has brought me the best of times, but it has brought me the worst of them as well. I finished college in this decade. I have been with that career as a vet tech since then. In the last decade, I have built a reputation in the city in which I live in.
The last decade brought me my first (and so far only) serious relationship. It also brought me a world of hurt that took me years to recover from.
Looking back, he gave me a lot in that relationship. A lot of those lessons made me that made me who I am today. I've gained skills that I can be proud of.
It ended with infidelity. Surprise, he was not straight. It definitely threw me in for more than a loop. I am not faultless by any means in the end of the relationship we had. Still, it was a slap in the face in finding out who my real friends are.
A few people blamed me for driving him to cheat on me. Hell, I even blamed myself. Part of me still does.
I lost myself with that relationship. Or perhaps, I had lost myself long before. It took a better part of 2 years to figure my shit out. I started traveling. I still have a few places to go, but I have been advised against going to Egypt as a single woman. I still hold out hope that maybe in a few years, I can finally go.
A decade ago, if you had asked me where I would imagine myself to be in 10 years, I would have answered "Probably married, or engaged, planning to have kids. Settling down. Maybe a head tech or something". That obviously did not pan out that way.
I am not where I imagine myself to be by any means, but I have been to so many unexpected places. I always thought that Japan captured my heart when I went there years ago. I never imagine another country, one so different would snag it like it did. One day, I will return to South Africa. At least, I hope so.
As for what I think about the next decade. Oh god, it can absolutely be worse. I no longer expect sunshine and rainbows. I would be happy to make it to the end of next decade intact. But, I have something to look forward to in the next decade. More travels for sure. But, even bigger, I just hope it doesn't end the same way.

What's Been Going On?
Posted 7 years agoI have decided a couple of years ago to take a step back from the Furry Fandom. I will still suit in some local events and pop by once in a blue moon.

FurEh (And VF) Con Review
Posted 10 years agoI just realized writing this journal that I never did a review for VF. So, coles notes of VF is that the con was awesome. A chunk of the con was spent watching The Haunting Hour. Now, as if being creeped out by puppets wasn't bad enough, a doll was worse. Luckily, it wasn't being waved in front of my face, so I have not developed a fear of dolls...yet.
Storm Crow was an awesome tavern. The chicken lollipops were really good. No, they're not candy, just drumsticks wrapped in bacon. A carnivore's dream. A few geek culture shots were taken. I took one called Snow Crash. It was creamily delicious.
The best part about this con was what we called "Furry TV". They set up a video feed of the main ballroom and streamed it to the hotel block TVs. It made attending events more comfortable and a lot funner.
Fur Eh
I woke up Friday morning in anticipation. Excitedly, I cooked brunch and happily ate.
Hida was on his way as I cooked lunch. I wolfed down lunch and began packing. It took a lot longer than I expected to pack but I was soon on my way. It was a half hour drive to the hotel. I decided that since I was in the area, that I would check out the new pet store that opened in town. The pet store was quite overwhelming. There was a lot of products to the point I could only look in awe.
I arrived at the con and went into con ops. I was greeted by Jin who yelled "Barley". I was admittedly a little perplexed seeing how I look very little like Barley aside from the fact we're both Asian. We reintroduced each other and went on our way to the registration desk we were supposed to be at. Fortunately, Hida arrived then and we exchanged a few words. Him, Wolfish and Silver wanted to get settled down in their rooms for a bit before any socializing. I went outside to drop my coat off in my car as I hadn't gotten my room key yet. Well, my excitement and jitteryness got the better of me and I locked my keys in the hatch. Lucky, I still had my phone and wallet. I was able to text Grael and tell him to bring my spares. Then, I explored the con for a bit and Sabre was able to get me a room key.
Opening ceremonies was typical. It wasn't as dry as some of the ones I've seen. I actually don't remember much of it. I ran into Fuzz and we talked for awhile after opening. I was hungry, so I went across to the CT to get a bag of chips. I settled down in the room and began chowing down. At that point, I check my phone and Hida said that
Silverhuskywolf was ready to go through the Viserion tutorial. Silver appeared entertained by what was coming out of my mouth when it came to assembling the wings. Midway through, I got a text from Grael that he was here. I told him to hang tight and Silver and I moved the suit to my room. Even better news, I don't think murder will be on my mind as carrying that suit was kinda awkward. I wouldn't have been able to do it without silver pushing the buttons and opening doors and carrying the head.
I went down to the lobby to wait for Grael to get my car keys. I was talking to two people. One person was telling me about his suit and I told him about the properties of silk (which he used to make his gloves). Another was doing origami. Grael arrived and I got my stuff out of my car! YES! We went to go get his stuff and ran into Zael on the way. It was perfect timing as he was our final roommate. We went to our room, Drekian dropped by and I put on Viserion. Good thing too, I got some awesome advice from him on how to get into the thing. I waddled around for a bit as Grael and Zael got their stuff. Being unused to a fullsuit, I decided to stay in one place for awhile. So I hung out by the doorway. A cute muslim female came up and asked for a picture. I spoke with her and said it was alright. We waited for her husband and I put my hand on her back. Needless to say, the husband's eyes went wide and I heard a few Arabic lines I did not know other than "La (no)". The wife quickly said "It's ok, she's a girl" and the husband was fine. Thank god I actually spoke. In the end the husband got a pic with me too. After a few pics with Drekian, we headed back to the room and I desuited. Then dinner was discussed. I think we went to Famoso that night after pick up a WALL fox
Saturday was mostly the VW meet and fursuit parade. We went to the variety show and it was pretty decent...Gosh, I could really use a cake donut. Mmmmm. The fursuit parade was a little slow to get going. It's easy to walk in the suit, standing still, not so much. We finally got going and it was a short walk. We lined up for the photo and I realized my butt was a little chilled. Looks like this suit isn't as insulating as Caina despite Caina being a partial. We went for dinner to Three Amigos. I really would like another empanada. That food was so good. So tasty and I'm currently hypersalivating thinking about it. The dance afterwards was fun. Zael dressed up in his inflatable suit and we made our way down to the dance. We wanted to see how big Zael would get if the attendees got to inflate him. Silver and ManlyShark were quite entertained by it and thrilled. Actually, I think Zael was a huge hit. As I was heading abck to the room, I ran into Kin and Kenta. Yay! We got to chat for a bit and catch up. I wish we had more time as I was feeling quite tired from all the action.
Sunday. I went out for breakfast with Sabre and Zael. We came back at I got ready for fursuit games. I was a bit late as I had to meet Zay to pick up some plushies to donate to Dream Night at the Zoo in June. I came in just in time for the tail end of the first game. In the end they got to pop all the balloons. I heard a young boy cry in devastation as his friend stole a balloon and he didn't. I dove in and snagged a balloon and gave it to the boy who was delighted that A. He got a balloon and B. That it was red. Closing ceremonies followed and it was time for supper at the Old Spaghetti Factory.

Happy Lunar New Year.
Posted 10 years agoOtherwise known as Chinese New Year.
I am finally glad to be rid of the Year of the Horse. It was predicted and proven to be a not very good year for me. At least work went well as predicted...
Well, let's ring in the Year of the Ram, Sheep, Goat, whatever you call it!

2014-Year in Review.
Posted 10 years agoGood evening everyone (who actually reads the stuff I spew out),welcome to my year in Review. It is a but late seeing how I'm used to the morning bird schedule but with a night Owl mindset. I just woke up with a bit of an ache and needed some pain meds. I sat waiting for the meds to take effect when I realized that I am finally in a good (and polite) state of mind to start my review of 2014.
Man, the Chinese was not kidding when they said that this year would not be a good year for me. Sadly, the lunar year is still going (leaving one more month for ObaMA to be assassinated, predicted by the Chinese). It has been an incredibly stressful year for me. I started out the year jobless. While I do admit that having a free schedule was nice, it does wear thin after awhile. So, I began my job search in February. I was turned down by my first choice and put on a bit of a run around trying to find out what happened. Talk about 2 weeks wasted! I was definitely discouraged after that. After that downer, I sat in the library and contemplated. I had heard from my old medical director that a vet I used to work with had opened up a new emergency clinic in town. I initially thought that it was a bad idea to work for him due to rumours of him running things with a bully tech. But, then, I noticed it was not just him opening up the clinic but also someone else
I used to work with, someone I enjoyed working with. So, I thought "Hey, it's worth an ask". I was called for an interview (with only 2 hours to get ready). The main boss met me, again. He had a vision intended for his new clinic that I was sceptical about. He wanted a family environment for the clinic. The staff will be like a second family and current family members treated as such. My thoughts were "hah! For an emergency clinic? As if" but the flexible schedule and familiar faces were attractive to me. So I pretty much got hired right away. Since then, I've met a lot of wonderful people. In fact, I was proven wrong, the family environment he wanted really did happen. I also got to do some pretty intense stuff.
Personal life though, took a nose dive soon after I got the job. I got stressed and buried myself deep into work. Things got so bad that I was less stressed at work than sitting in my car to go home.
I never actually took mental health very seriously before this year. In fact, I was that person that would say "pfft, whatever" and look at the person funny (probably in contempt). Now, I have more understanding. I see the Bell commercials currently playing and I appreciate the effort.
To describe what happened to my mind is difficult. I never went to a doctor because of the stigma attached to it. A certain event made my mind kind of fissure. The events through the day caused the fissure to get wider and both sides to twist a little. Sometimes, it felt as if cracks would form. I attempted to close the fissure by working more. All I succeeded in doing was build a bridge between the two pieces. Eventually, I think my mind had enough.
The stress got really bad at some point in the year. I thought I could handle it on my own. I really couldn't. I have a lot of friends to thank for helping me that week.
The stress is gone from my life. I am so glad for it. I am so grateful for my friends that helped with that. no more thorn to my side.
My lesson/advice: don't be me. Don't be the person that looks at mental health in contempt. 2 reasons, if you're the person making cracks such as "you need to toughen up" or "are you that wimpy you have to go to a therapist?" I sure as heck ain't coming to you if I'm suicidal. 2nd, it kinda sucks becoming someone you once looked in contempt. Yup, totally sucks.
Other than that mess, I haven't really done much with my personal life. Most of my friends come from my coworkers now. It looks like I have found a really good group. As for gaming, Warlords of Draenor has been pretty good. That is once you learn to handle the elitists that have returned. Ugh, some people just take the game too seriously. It's a game that you can play. So, PLAY it, and don't work it, you know? The thing is, if you die, you respawn. No need to have a mass freak out over every little mistake. I mean, if that's how to treat a fun hobby, then yikes, don't come to my work!
The rest of the year went well. I still had to work a ton but the weight was gone. It was noticeable right away, even to my boss. I bonded with my coworkers through nights out about once a month. I'm glad decisions were made. I'm glad
grael-dragon would still put up with me. It's been a very stressful year, and I do apologize to everyone for putting up with me, especially him.

I'm glad

China and Updates
Posted 11 years agoI have finally recovered just enough to type out a huge update on life. In the beginning of October, my parents and I went on vacation to China for 2 weeks. It was definitely an experience and I had a number of culture shocks. I have learned that Canada is a great place to live. Well, onto the vacation report.
The trip started out at my parents' place after I had gone home after work that day. My mom was less than impressed about me coming home a day late, but all is well. We did some last minute packing and had a good night's sleep. We woke up at a decent time and headed to the airport and flew to Vancouver. We had our last Canadian meal there of A&W before boarding the flight to Beijing. I brought a lot of things to entertain myself, but I never knew how excruciating it is to be sardined into a plane for 11 hours. I followed my doctor's advice and walked around the plane every 2 hours. Unfortunately, I'm one of the larger people on the plane and my stumbling around resulted in waking up a few people and one crying baby. Fortunately, thanks to new technology, I could choose my own movies. I started out with Divergent since at least it had action. The meal was served and...what is wrong with that bread? I didn't know bread could slough! I choked down the chicken and rice. Fortunately, both my parents despise yogurt, so I had 3 cups of those. Afterwards, I played Pokemon, and decided to watch another movie. With limited choices, I settled for Captain America. Oh, eye candy...during the movie, another meal was served and again, I ate 3 cups of yogurt. The flight landed just when things were getting really exciting on that movie though. Now, service on the Air China flight was definitely lacking. I would expect that if you're flying out of an English speaking country that you would understand the English terms for things. I asked the attendant for some water. She gave me a cup of warm water. I really didn't want anything warm seeing how my mouth was dryer than a desert so I placed the water aside and asked for the attendant again. This time I asked for cold water. She provides me with the cup in her hand of another warm water. I repeat "COLD water", which she interpreted it to "coke". Well, at least it was something cold, but did she really have to throw it onto my tray table?
We land in Beijing and go through all the customs stuff. Apparently, we are referred to as aliens and have to check in to any hotel with our passports. Ok, Chinese government, whatever fills your time. Well, here is the first culture shock. You know the stereotype of Asians being bad drivers? I could see why! We try to cross the little road to our taxi and I watched my dad nearly get hit by a car. No yielding or braking whatsoever. We get into the taxi and drive 2 hours to our hotel (Beijing is THAT big). All the while, I felt like I was IN an episode of Canada's Worst Driver, except it's called China's Typical Driver. The lane markers are a loose guideline, despite being a foot wider than Canada or USA. Signalling is only used when you intentionally cut someone off. The mirrors are a fancy schmancy decoration. To top it off, our driver missed a turn to the hotel and reversed on the freeway. We spend the night at the fancy hotel. In there I get another oddity of travelling. In order to have electricity, you have to stick your room card into the slot in the room. This I to save electricity. It's a great concept...not so great in practice. Our mini fridge did not keep running when we pulled that key. My mother is on insulin...
The next day, we met up with our tour and went to the Great Wall. Now, that was a sight that was worth seeing. I will also note that we arrived in China at an optimal time. The Chinese have a few day long celebration for the country's birthday. This means that the factories are shut down for a few days. So, we were able to visit the Great Wall with blue skies. Now, We got off the bus (after an hour 45 min ride) and was suggested we go to the washroom. Um...I smelt a lot of horrid things in my life as a vet tech. NOTHING compared to the smell of the washroom there. I took a step in, breathed and was IMMEDIATELY outta there. No worries, I didn't drink much for breakfast. We were released to ascend the wall as we chose. Ok...it looks like a leisurely stroll on pictures, right? Oh my god, totally wrong. It was the scariest stair master I've ever been on. First, there's tons of stairs. Second, the Chinese apparently have tiny feet that are much smaller than a woman's size 9.5s, Third, they were uneven. One step could be knee level, the next barely existent. We made up to the 2nd tower and halfway up to 3rd and said "screw it". I was definitely feeling that burn in my thighs.
We went to look at jade next at the same factory that designed and made the Beijing 2008 medals. It was really cool to see their speciality of Happiness Balls. I didn't understand a word on that tour but at least there was some English to read. Then the gift shop where I got a taste of how dangerous me as a banana was. So, the Chinese were charged less for the gifts than the Caucasian tour after us. My parents had just finished negotiating with the sales clerk when an English guy came up and asked the price of a ball. The sales clerk pretty much screamed at my mom to not tell them any prices and to shut me up. What he didn't realize was that there was a sign with the prices right there that I was reading out to the English.
Then it was off to the reflexology clinic where we got our feet massaged and pressured into buying expensive meds. I was glad for the fact I don't understand Chinese, but it made things very awkward for the student that was rubbing my foot. Finally, we had someone translate. In which two questions were asked in this order "are you single?" and "How old are you?". Hearing that I was 24 made the guy go quiet and finish my massage in record pace
We went to a kung fu show next featuring furries...cool kung fu moves. I was a little creeped out by the pandas
We were dropped off at the mall and night market for food. It was recommended we try the Japanese restaurant. My mom didn't feel much like Japanese so we looked around. We checked the night market where we were told not to eat anything for we would regret the consequences. So after an hour and a half of wandering around, we settled on KFC. Chicken tasted the same, fries were like McDs
The next day was some more sight seeing. The factories had opened up, making the air smoggy again. summer palace was cool. And my kidneys began hurting. Now, culture shock two. Squat toilets. I figure it would be like peeing by a tree, it was seriously not. I couldn't even squeeze a drop out. It also didn't help that I was definitely feeling that Great Wall in my thighs. So, that left the option of not peeing for most of the day. Fortunately, near the end of that mess, my mom figured out the fact that handicapped people can't use squat toilets, and thus, I was SAVED! Since we're on the subject of washrooms, I should also mention China's paranoia about toilet paper. It is not provided. Carrying around is roll is also a bit cumbersome so, facial tissue was used to wipe. There is also one more detail that I will not mention in fears that someone reading this happens to be eating. Next is the lack of paper towels and proper hand drying mechanisms. Whenever there are paper towels, I am usually the one leaping to grab one. I have gotten glares but one incident stands out where the custodian actually stopped my from using the paper towel! She saw me reaching for the paper towel, yelled something in Chinese, pushed my wrists away from the towel and proceeded to push me to the not working blow dryer. The heck?! We also went to the silk factory where I got my own private tour. Our tour guide felt very bad for me and ordered an English speaking guide for me. I was quite delighted until the sale pressure started. Then, I just simply said that my wallet is with my mom and she put me in the corner with the tea and left me alone. Then the jewellery store where we learned more about jade. The jeweller really knew how to sell stuff. I think he actually made a couple have a very fat credit card bill by the end of the night. At dinner, the female was giddy, the male, not so much.
Last day in Beijing. I was transferred to the English tour for the day as we combined with them for the day. Talk about RELIEF! My mom and I were delighted. I was finally able to talk to people. We went to Tienanmen Square and Forbidden City. There is a reason why it's still called a city. Walking straight across it took 2.5 hours. I was semi looking forward to being able to go into Mao's Mausoleum only to find out it wasn't included in the tour. My mom was confused. My dad asked the tour guide if we could just take a taxi down just so I could look at the body. The answer was Sure, but you'll be in line for 4 hours but it's free. We finished that leg of the tour and heading off to lunch. Now, culture shock 3. What the Chinese eat...I saw a roasted chameleons and some FRESH scorpions on a stick! Lucky it was a street vendor and even I didn't want to sample that!
Next stop was the tea store. This is where things (unbeknownst to me) got a little hairy with the fact that I insisted on being in the English tour. the tour guide was concerned that now that I understood what was going on that I would start convincing people OUT of buying stuff. He told my mom "Oh, she shouldn't be staying with the English so much" My mom retorts with "You want me to go in there and drag her out? Then she'll be bored and be obnoxious". The tour guide conceded. Contrary to his belief, I actually helped the sales...to an extent. The English tour finished way before the Chinese did so after waiting half an hour, I snuck into the Chinese room and asked my mom to update me. I realized that they were cheating the Chinese! I tell my mom the English prices (1/3), and she is floored. At this point, someone from the Chinese tour realized that she couldn't walk after falling at the Temple of Heaven earlier. The poor woman was almost in tears realizing she'd have to climb down stairs to get out of the building. After a decision was made on taking a taxi, the woman began to wail. I stepped in and calmed her down and her husband and I helped her walk to the taxi. This is when language barriers play. There are 2 tour guides this day. One Chinese and one English. The English one was elected to go with the lady to the hospital. Her and I talked at the Temple of Heaven when she asked why I was separated from my parents. She sees me supporting the woman, named Iris, and thinks that's my mom. At this point, I'm just chilling and daydreaming when my mom snaps me out by saying (in Chinese) "You guys can go where ever you want, just give me back my daughter!" and grabs my arm and starts pulling me. I rock a little but nearly tip over Iris. The tour guide asks "who is your mother?" I point at my mom with my mouth opening and closing like a goldfish. The tour guide then says "Ok, so you're not going with them?" Both women scream "no" and my mom starts tugging me harder. We get that sorted out and head to dinner where I have the worst Peking Duck I've ever had (despite being in Peking).
Next was the musical show thingy. AMAZING show. Great story, great dancing and even special effects where they turn the stage into a giant waterfall to imitate flooding.
The next day was leaving Beijing and going to Xi'an. The flight was short and I looked down and saw farmland. I was excited for that. We landed and met a wonderful couple name Sam and Jade (Sam is female and Jade is male). Even better was that Jade was a banana like me. We were released to find food on our own. We were left with pretty much 2 options. hotel restaurant of eating the same stuff or Chinese fast food. We elected fast food. Now here is the fun part. It looked like a McD. the menu ain't McD. The "burger" was a Xi'an speciality bun sandwiching pulled pork and chicken. The fries were replaced with noodles. Those hit the spot perfectly and we ate, then came down in two hours to top up.
At last, we were to finally see the Terra Cotta soldiers. The wait was excruciating seeing how someone who joined our tour that day decided to forget his camera on the bus, hold everyone back as he runs to get it, gets lost on the way back to the bus and decides (after 45 minutes) that he gives up on the camera! Then we had to stare at the model of Xi'an and finally the soldiers. I race in and freeze as the sight beholds me. That's a lot of fucking clay soldiers...In order to get a good pic, I realized that the lineup was like a gumball machine. I'm also bigger than everyone else. I also handled for the MMPR team for Power Morphicon. Quite a few people got some bruised heads. Hey, when in China, do as the Chinese do...but better! Once that was done, we crossed the market and left. Culture shock 4. Ever seen a Chow chow rug? how about a Samoyed? or perhaps can I interest you in a kitty scarf.
We then made the long drive to Huashan. Now for tidbit time again. Everyone hears of the smog and air quality in China. Xian was worse than Beijing at the time. I was getting pretty sick at this point. My throat was on fire and my coughing became constant. By the time I came back to Canada, my coughing got so severe that it became a pretty bad infection which required me to be on some tough antibiotics. We arrived at Huashan, which to my absolute devastation, turned out to be a town right by an electric plant that burned coal. At this point, I was so sick, I lost my appetite and refused to eat anything. And well, the hotel was not exactly great despite being the best on in Huashan. the shower is the nozzle on the wall and a drain on the floor. No walls, anything. The water was piss warm and I flooded the bathroom with it. But at least it had a sit down toilet.
The next day, we went to the actual mountain. As we climbed, the air got cleaner. The roads were also a bit sketchy but I thought of Grael and he would've loved to drive that. We got to the top by cable car and HALLELUJAH! I CAN BREATHE AGAIN! to anyone who plays World of Warcraft, you should appreciate the amazing work Blizzard did on Mists of Pandaria. I was not in reality there. I was able to climb a good chink of those stairs and I felt like I was IN that game. It was surreal. I climbed the mountain happily and exhausted my old old parents. But they were happy to have me feeling better, so they went along with it until my dad just couldn't take anymore. I regained my appetite and back to Xian
We then went back to Xian and had their speciality for dinner...which were dumplings. 26 different type of dumplings. Some disgusting, some mind blowing. Before that, we were given this warm beverage. And I found out the hard way that there was only one glass of coke per person...(water is not typically provided at dinners in China). Then we waited for the dinner show and I found out what the warm beverage was...Sake. And I had drank it before eating anything. Things were a bit blurry...
The rest of the tour was very uninteresting. We went to another jeweller to look as Jade...then we went to a Jade museum. Then a silk factory where I got some silk sheets for a bloody good deal thanks to Sam negotiating rather beautifully.
It was finally time to leave Xian and off to Shanghai. We got separated from Sam and Jade before we could say our goodbyes. I'm very disappointed in that since they were the best people on the tour I've met.
The Shanghai tour was much larger. We met a couple from Toronto...who looked like another couple from Toronto...After checking into the hotel (Which was really nice) we took a taxi and went to get some famous dumplings. Admittedly, the steamed ones were moderately good seeing how they were made from crab and I kept getting the bad luck piece with carapace in it. the fried ones were mind blowing good. We finished up, and went to the Times Square of Shanghai. We spent a good chunk of time in the M&M store. I wanted to go to it in Las Vegas but we couldn't find parking. It was a really wacky store with the Great Wall of Chocolate. The M&M characters were dressed up in costumes. Eee so cute!
The Shanghai tour consisted of travelling to towns surrounding it. Some places were awesome, other places not so much. At this point, my appetite was spotty. I was sick of the same thing 2 meals a day. Our table mates empathized and many had banana children. The smog was still bad but more tolerable than the last two places. I was able to not have throat pain, but the coughing had gotten worse. I couldn't sleep the last 4 nights in Shanghai as I was kept up by my own coughing. We looked at jade three more bloody freaking times. I really don't want to hear anything more about that darn rock. The best part was the tea farm. It was beautiful and there were sit down toilets (at this point, I judge place is judged by the toilets). Finally, at last, it was proposed that we eat noodles rather than the usual. I heard some people protest, but they were shut up when they realized that it's a chance for me to finally eat more than 2 bowls of rice a day. The noodles were great compared to what we've had lately. Ok, so, breakfast since I've only mentioned two meals so far. Breakfast is eaten at the hotel we're staying at. It varies what we get. Sadly, breakfast was 90% the only full meal that I would eat a day. What I found in Shanghai was that eating breakfast was like competing with locusts. You better not be late, otherwise you get nothing. And food that fits me were pretty sought after. I attacked someone over hashbrowns once. She was reaching for the last four despite having a few on her plate. I ran up to her, grabbed the tongs, smacked her hands away and took the hashbrowns. My dad was choosing a bun and someone came up behind him and snatched one. So, I was competitive with hashbrowns in particular as chicken sausages are gross.
We returned to Shanghai on the last day. We were released to get something to eat. Our family ate with a couple from Australia to get dumplings. They weren't as good as the first night, but they hit the spot perfectly. The noodles did as well. For the first time in days I felt full.
On our return to Canada, things were eventful. We got to the Pudong Airport at 9am for our noon flight. We were told our flight was rebooked to a flight in the Hongqiao airport. We asked how long the drive would be...2 hours. After a freak out we hail down a taxi and tell him the situation. I don't know whether or not to be terrified or amazed. We got there in 45 minutes...Lane straddling and inappropriate passing in the package. We fly and land in Beijing. We deplane outside and the smog was unholy. I felt like someone was sitting on my chest holding a pillow over my face.
Quickly, we boarded and flew back to Vancouver and Canada at last.
Things were so beautiful in Vancouver. My mom and I threw our bags at my dad and raced into the bathroom. Nothing has looked so beautiful in my life, smelled so beautiful in my life. Asswipe, GLORIOUS ASS WIPE! Proper hand drying mechanisms! OH! Yes, it was good to be back. And then I smelled sandwiches toasting and immediately started salivating. We head to Tim Hortons and low and behold, cream of potato bacon soup! Ok, well, not the best thing ever since I was so elated at having a delicious soup, that I burnt my entire mouth. Ooops.
Life has since kind of returned to normal. I'm still feeling the jet lag. I just finished my course of antibiotics so I have stopped coughing. I have also found that I have a bit of an aversion to rice that Grael's mom makes. Sorry, but rice should be plain and eaten in moderation. I miss the vegetation in China. The stuff in Canada is actually kinda bland. Pine trees are cool, but not as cool as some of the trees in China. It's kind of barren and yellow in Canada. I miss the green rolling hills. I miss the Chinese snacks that were delicious. The unique flavour oreos are good but no one eats them here...Most of all, I miss those mind blowing dumplings.
Work has been good. There are moments were I'm not happy, and other moments where I'm elated. Example, this month, I'm working every weekend. But, within my first week back, I was in reception, and received a cat that was apparently having problems breathing. I rushed it back where we found it not only was not breathing, but dead. I got permission to do CPR and a cat that came in DOA was hospitalized alive. I fortunately over fed it that night.
The trip started out at my parents' place after I had gone home after work that day. My mom was less than impressed about me coming home a day late, but all is well. We did some last minute packing and had a good night's sleep. We woke up at a decent time and headed to the airport and flew to Vancouver.
RF Con Report
Posted 11 years agoAnother year of RF has passed. I got pretty lucky in coming as my work accidentally scheduled me off this weekend, and on my trip next week. After working an additional 3 days (turning my week into an 8 day long week), I managed to get my China trip off along with RF. It's been quite an eventful con if I do say so myself.
We arrived Thursday evening at the same time as our final roommates
nisu and
mistershentiger. We began settling into the room, including setting up stuff for their child. The baby was fussing a bit. He was awful tired after the long trip. Room drama occurred, which put a huge and unnecessary strain on
grael-dragon. The baby fell asleep promptly and stayed asleep until the next morning. I left the room in order to take a break from the strain in the room. I ran into
fuzz-wolf and we spent a couple of hours chatting away, and catching up. I returned from the socializing to Nisu and Eiwaz sleeping. They woke up and we spent a good chunk of the rest of the nice exchanging and laughing at stories with
FalenAnjel.
We celebrated Fursuit Friday to the max. We started the day with breakfast at the hotel restaurant. The food was decent. I found the sausage a little too heavily seasoned. The eggs were actually quite good for the first few bites (That's impressive since I normally hate eggs on their own). Grael got my toast since he wanted something light. We ran to Walmart afterwards. Everyone needed something from Walmart. Unfortunately, I forgot to buy a pack of Nutter Butters! After Walmart, we went to dress up for Temperance's photoshoot. Going to the photoshoot was interesting on my front...I thought that other viking wolf was Eiwaz. So here I am, shoving into pictures with him. And then...we stepped into the elevator and I realized that wasn't Eiwaz, shoooot. The photo shoot was delayed because one person was a bit late. Lucky Temperance was giving out free brushings! After the mass Komic Krazi photoshoot, a bunch of us decided to do our own photoshoot with
Drekian's camera. We then decided to finish up with the photobooth. Afterwards, Grael and I returned to our room to get out of suit. Eiwaz hadn't returned yet as he was still at the photoshoot. We headed to the Dealer's Den after so I could do some shopping. Ok, I splurged a lot more than I should've. Soaps and vinyl decals are what got my money. I was invited by:icon Zaelgolin: to go to the Inflatables Meet and Greet. I went to the Meet and Greet while Grael took a nap. I was so nervous about going to the meet and greet. I stuck my head slowly in, looked around and fortunately heard an excited "Caina!" from Zael. He introduced me to
takumori. The meet was then started. I got impatient partway through waiting for things to get inflated so I headed back to the room. I ran into Nisu on the way back who insisted we hang out in the lobby. We chat for a bit until Eiwaz comes back and we decide to check out the Meet again. We return just in time to see Takumori in his inflatable quad suit frolicking around and all the adorable blow up toys. A great end to that panel! We return to the room, Grael comes back and we decide to go to Claim Jumper for dinner. Dinner was delicious, service was top notch. We come back to the hotel and head of to "Sensual Scalies". Gonna have to be blunt here. This panel was more than I expected and not in a good way. Looking at Porn with a bunch of strangers just ain't my cup of tea. I was fortunate I was short. Lucky, we left as soon as we could. I mean, I would rather a meet and greet or something more than staring at dragon or croc dick. I mean, how about discussing what makes this art piece so awesome, other than the giant cock waving in the wind. Mind you, there were a few pieces where the artist got up and told us about the art piece and what went into it. THAT was interesting.
Saturday's breakfast was Denny's with Grael, Fuzz and his friend. I was hungry enough to eat a good chunk of my meal. It was good. The fursuit parade was right after. It was a long route and the picture taking was...hot. We ran back to our room after and took our suits off as quickly as we can. Thank god for AC! I don't remember much from Saturday, just that we relaxed for awhile. We tried to go to the dance competition a bit late since we had some things to do. We were denied entry as they were well over capacity. At last, we went to the Dealers Den and started unloading our Canadian contraband of Kinder Eggs and Coffee Crisps. I talked to Professor Whoviantart for awhile. It turns out his comic is going very well and that he has found an artist for it. We went to Drekian's Tranformation panel. A discussion panel, I'm up for that! It's WAY better than looking at picture of dick (and the occasional vagina) with a group of people. We chatted with everyone after a bit. After the panel, we went back to our room. We didn't want to go far for food. So, we ordered pizza and wings for me. Nisu and Eiwaz gave me their phones so I could watch the dance competition. The dances were amazing. Some better than others. Overall, I liked it. We went to Drekian's room and chatted for a bit. Then it was bed time.
Last day of Con. I went to the vinyl decal panel. It was interesting and I feel so very bad for the person that did the one that's on my back window. Still, I got free decals! Grael was in the process of moving our things over the the Clarion for the night. We suited for a bit after the panel with Drekien, Alleria and Ja'Nathun. Grael and I headed to fursuit games after we went through the Dealers Den. I sat and watched until I got hungry. Unfortunately, the burger bar was closed at this time. So, I went to the gift store and looked around at what I wanted. Chex Mix and I looked down at the sweet section. Nutter Butters, I've always wanted to try those...I buy a pack and head back to the games. I nibble on the Chex mix and eat a Nutter Butter. My god those cookies hit the spot perfectly. They were GOOD! After fursuit games, we decided to get lunch...which turned into dinner. Getting Wallin out of bed was near impossible! While waiting for our table at the Old Spaghetti Factory, we decided to check out PetCo. They sadly didn't have much that appealed to me but it was fun to look around and realize what a good deal I get on these products. Wallin was busy staring at ferrets despite my preaching on why you should not get a ferret. Crazy high mark up! Dinner itself was delicious. Pasta is always good. We return to the hotel and play Ultimate Werewolf for the rest of the night. Finally we check out the dance and say our goodbyes.
We headed back to Canada on Monday. I was quite insistent on getting some Nutter Butters before crossing the border. Fortunately, we got them and I passed out until just at the border. Apparently, I was sleeping to the point I was snoring. I was woken up and told the border guard that the only thing I had bought really was Nutter Butter cookies! One weird look later, we crossed and headed to Radium Hot Springs. We stopped at a very homey motel. It was beautiful and relaxing. We sought out dinner at a cheap BBQ place and I got myself a steak and soup. I could've cooked a better steak but the rest was good. Service was amazing. We went to the hot spring and relaxed the night away. The perfect vacation after the vacation. The bed was so comfortable at the motel...I didn't want to get out. Breakfast was served by the hotel manager (I'm guessing). Almost everything was home made, at least what I ate. I had 1 croissant (it said was was fresh made), and decided to try her maple baked French Toast. I'm not particularly fond of French toast (How do i survive breakfast?!). but this one was EPICALLY delicious! It was so good, I had to get seconds, and get Grael to try a chunk of mine (actually only a small bite).
Summary Notes:
-Great con, Greater people
-Would've like to do more around Seattle, but never got the time
-Soaps and decals are amazing
-Americans can't get Kinder eggs (except apparently around Easter)
-American Coca Cola is kinda gross
-Nutter Butters are a really, absolutely delicious cookie (aka nuggets of LOVE) that anyone who likes peanut butter needs to try.
-I need more Nutter Butters as Grael (and myself) keeps dipping into the (not so well hidden) stash and the stash is about to be unguarded for nearly 3 weeks.

Fur Eh 2014 Con in Review
Posted 11 years agoWell, my first time I've been able to make it out to a more local con. It was definitely a good change being able to stay at home AND go to a con. I do have to admit though, it might've been easier to stay in the hotel. I had a lot of fun at this con. I absolutely loved the panels as well.
Friday: I go in a little later than I hoped. But Alberta Health delayed me rather badly with wait times and overbooking doctors. Yay for waiting 1hr for a 10 minute appointment! I arrived at the hotel and well, I can't say I was impressed. Confused is definitely the better term. Why is the sign with Fur Eh pointing me towards a wall? I asked 2 random furs where to go...they were as confused as I was. Eventually, we figured it out. I registered and ran down to the tail end of the opening ceremonies. Opening ceremonies at Fur Eh was definitely less dry than Vancoufur's. Good job
falloutfur. After that, it was off to the Dealer's Den...after much delay of a lot of people asking "Where's Grael?" (BTW, he was at work. I stopped for brief conversation with almost anyone who asked) I found
Hida and we went through the Dealer's Den. We commissioned
shinigamigirl and I ran into someone to talk to. The people I was originally hanging out with disappeared suddenly. With that, I decided to stop by the only panel that was running, the photography one. Finally, Grael arrives and dinner plans began...yes, I said BEGAN. For once, it wasn't furries that was the problem, but Friday night is not a good night to be going out for dinner. We dragged a lot of people along. I know Kin, Kenta, Sabre, Zael QB, Grael, Hida, Wikt, came along, with a bunch of other people I probably didn't know. We finally stopped by Red Lobster and ate. Once we got back, I went to the Randomness Panel, which turned out as random as they came. I kidnapped a Hida and off to home we went
Saturday: Breakfast was Harvey's seeing how there was a wait everywhere else. We couldn't afford to wait as we wanted to hit the fursuit parade. Fursuit parade was eventful...as you can tell from my uploaded photos. Fursuit photo afterward was really well done. I was quite happy that they got the short people to stand in the front. Then, Takoda wanted to make a video and needed volunteers. Now, I will mention that I prefer if I know if someone is going to hug me. Don't just come up behind me and slowly wrap your arms around me without saying anything. I mean, FFS FURRIES! Worst part is the guy wouldn't let go easily despite getting an elbow to the chest. I mean, I thought furries were finally learning not to randomly hug strangers! Fursuit games was next. Boy, that was interesting... Note to Self: Soccer in fursuits is kinda scary. Actually, very scary. Other than the "oh dear" moments, it was fun. Weirdly enough, the first thing the came to mind when I saw the sheep puzzles were "I'm going to perform a C-section on them" Afterwards, it was dinner. Hotel food was the choice and well...it was a little pricey for the food I got. I never really understood 'gourmet" food. When I eat a piece of meat, I'd rather taste at least some of the meat rather than a mouthful of flavouring. I mean, flavouring should COMPLIMENT the meat and not OVERWHELM it. Then it was off to the Legendary Drunken Fursuit Construction. It was actually a really good social panel with kinda a show in the background. I chatted with a Knightmare guy about Pokemon myths for nearly 45 minutes. Seeing how I was 15 minutes late for the BDSM panel, I decided to head on over. Ok, I best keep this to relatively PG 13. No one really wants to be reminded of balls being nailed to boards (oh dear, look what I did there). Um...OUCH. After that cringe worthy experience, I went off to the Dance competition. Loved the dancers! Everyone's dance was really well done. I nearly volunteered to be the first warm up dance to be the confidence booster for the competitors. I mean, it's really not hard to beat Carmeldansen to the Meow Mix theme. There was a wait time between a couple dancers. I didn't much like the awkward silence, so I pulled out my phone. It seemed like the perfect time to play the Meow Mix theme. Good timing too, right when it finished, the dancer was ready! That finished and it was time to head to the long awaited Lego Panel. 1 hour panel in 3 hours. Man, that was one long but fun panel. I was very happy to admire the Lego VW Beetle once again. I was disappointed that the Karmann Ghia wasn't there and was replaced by...Ford Tanus. Once it finally finished, Grael wanted to go home. Understandable being almost 1am!
Sunday: Woke up and had breakfast at White Spot. Waiter sucked, kitchen staff was just bloody lazy or dumb or both. I mean, how hard is it to toss a bun on the grill to toast it? Come on! I left still hungry seeing how my toast was just simply eliminated. Being temporarily gluten free actually makes me really feel sorry for celiac patients. There are just a lot of lazy and dumb restaurants out there. Well, after that, it was last minute suiting, dealers den and closing.

I left still hungry seeing how my toast was just simply eliminated. Being temporarily gluten free actually makes me really feel sorry for celiac patients. There are just a lot of lazy and dumb restaurants out there. Well, after that, it was last minute suiting, dealers den and closing.

Fur Eh meme!
Posted 11 years agoFur-Eh! 2014 Meme!
Where are you staying?
My place. I'm getting new skis, so whatever cuts cost
What day are you getting there?
I'm already here!
Who will you be rooming with?
Grael-dragon and possibly
hida If Hida finds something better, then it'll just be me and Grael. Otherwise, Hida gets hellhound squishes.
Who will you hang out with during the convention?
Whoever I want to (And for
Sabredragon's curiosity, No puppets!)
Are you attending any stage or public performances?
Just the fursuit parade
Are there any panels you might be attending?
Lego panel! Because at least this time, there won't be annoying texts telling me to hurry up
Will you be suiting?
Yeah
Which suit(s) will you be bringing?
My one and only Caina
Do you do free art?
If you really want abstract black and white versions of your fursona, sure
Do you do trades?
see above
Do you do badges?
See 2 above
Do you do commissions?
Why would you want to pay for that?!
What is your gender?
Female
How tall are you?
5'4
Are you taken? Are you looking for a 'mate'?
Taken
Can I talk to you?
You CAN. But if I don't like you, then I'm walking away. And while we're on the topic, talking means you, yourself, talking DIRECTLY to me. If you find the need to talk to me through a puppet...go away!
Can I touch you?
Ask first
How can I find you?
Why would you want to?
Can I visit your room?
No flipping way
Can I buy you drinks?
You give me money, I buy my own drink
Can I give you stuff?
What kinda stuff?
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
If I know you, hugs are ok. If I don't or don't like you, no. snuggles, no
Are you nice?
If you've never royally pissed me off before, sure. Otherwise, no
How long are you going?
We'll see what work says
Do you have an artist table?
Nope
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Call my name or yell steak
Where will you be most of the time during the day(s)?
Around the con
What/where will you be eating?
Whatever's nearby. I might head home every now and then and cook something
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
Ummm...Depends. After hearing
Target_Grey's story there are some rules. 1. Keep bedroom fetishes in the bedroom. Nothing says awkward quite like a slave not being allowed to eat unless master says so and only being allowed to eat out of master's mouth (dafuq?), 2. Order something other than a condiment. I DO NOT want to see you sipping mayonaise out of a cup (EWWW). 3. Leave the fucking puppet at home!
Can I look in your sketchbook?
Sure, go mad
Can I draw in your sketchbook?
Yeah, just keep it respectful
Can I take your picture?
In suit, go nuts. Just don't be creepy about it (like that chick that only wanted ass pictures)
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
Have fun

Vancoufur con review
Posted 11 years agoAlright, time to do this con review. I wasn't initially going to do one, but I figured it would be nice to have some highlights of the con.
Road trip was fun with Sabre in the front seat. Only con about that is he's unbelievably tall. We had a few great conversations including discovering the origins of the Koopalings. Yes, the Koopalings are the product of Bowser+a different coloured Yoshi for each Koopaling.
Food of Vancouver was great. It was nice to be back in Vancouver too and able to do some of the things I wanted to do. Highlights of food involved Japadog (which they put a little too much seaweed on my hot dog), A good Japanese restaurant, EXP Bar (which involved a very giddy Sabre and me), and Stepho's. It was so amazing to be back at Stepho's. The food was so good, so cheap and definitely the best way to finish the con.
People of the con were great. Drekian and Wallin made the con fun. And after hearing that the Vancouver Furs were absolutely bat shit insane...they were so normal to the point that it was quite a pleasant surprise.

Furthest North-Con in Review
Posted 11 years agoFurthest North Winter has snowballed to a close. It was a great mini get together/con if I do say so myself. I enjoyed spending time with old friends and meeting new ones.
Friday-We were off to FN Friday evening after dinner. Seeing how I forgot it was Valentine's and how I wanted to get going, we stopped by the Timmie's before leaving. It was close by, so it was the natural choice. After we finished eating, we packed into the car and headed to Jasper. The ride was less than eventful. It felt long, probably because I was so eager to get there. We arrived in Jasper and met up with
qb89dragon who was our roommate. I don't even know what else we did that night other than a brief suiting.
Saturday-Breakfast was at Smitty's. I ordered the Meatlover's Skillet since it looked pretty good. It also looked more appetizing than the last time I set eyes on it when I was very sick. I have to say, it wasn't bad until I tried the bacon. It tasted quite...old. After everyone was done, we went to meet everyone going for the Ice Walk. After somehow piling 7 people into
mblade's truck, we started the hike. It wasn't a bad hike. The sights were beautiful, the water cold. How do I know the water was cold? Well,
grael-dragon and I slipped into the river, upto our knees. Fortunately, my socks and boots created a wetsuit effect and I was good until I got back to the hotel.
We soaked in the hot tub for a bit, much to my reluctance. I have to admit, it was mildly disgusting by the time we got out. the furry soup film was starting to form...yuck. The poker session with Kenta, QB and Dr J made it all better.
Dinner was interesting to work out. We went to the Brewery expecting to be included for dinner. However, only 12 people were booked. So, a bunch of us went to find dinner alternatives. The place we went to was deserted. We sat down and waited for our meal. I have no idea why the place was deserted as the food was quite tasty.
Afterwards, it was off to suit then hot tub...in the cleaner hot tub. We had a Card Against Humanity session in our room after. The night ended with tons of laughs.
Sunday-Man, morning took a bit to get going. I woke up to :qb89dragon: drying his hair in the bathroom. Well, that works, I wanted more sleep anyways. Just my luck
kenta knocked on our door to wake us up. Sadly, Grael was feeling sick. QB went off with Kenta to start the ski day early while I attempted to get the black dragon out of bed. I gave up and started attempting to salvage the internet situation...that didn't work either. Luckily, at this time, Grael asked for Tylenol and mouthwash. I went downstarts to the shop to ask for some, then got sent to the pharmacy to get some. I came back, gave the stuff to Grael who promptly passed out. Well, for pity's sake, I'm hungry. I poked him, told him I wanted food and went downstairs to the Smitty's. I ordered the seniors egg and waffle without the egg. I was happy with that. I polished that off and went to poke the dragon again. He rose from the dead...reluctantly.
We packed up our skis and headed to the Timmie's to get the dragon something. Grael ran into
sabredragon and
zaelgolin who happened to be going skiing as well. Finally, we headed out to the ski hill. After getting gouged by park gates (what a rip off!), we arrived at the hill. Seeing how many cars lined up, I was definitely hesitant to go skiing. But, paying the park fees, I figured, I'm in this far, gotta go to the end. On one condition, that we find a decent parking space where I don't have to carry my skis a football field length away. I'm a wuss and the skis are heavy! Fortunately, we found a parking space.
The ski day was started off with a few green runs for my sake. I get really cranky if I don't get my warm up runs before hitting anything more difficult. I have to say, that was the scariest warm up run I have ever done. Nice long weekend=kids...lots of kids. The bottom of the hill was a warzone. We miraculously met up with QB, Kenta, Phoenix and Ryuu. Phoenix was pretty tired after her first half day of snowboarding so she went back to the hotel. I learned that waxed skis make quite a difference as I was left behind in the dust. It was a good thing as we found Zael and Sabre. They told us a funny story of how they got to the hill only to realize they had left their skis and snowboard back at the hotel lockers. Oops. We stayed with them for the rest of the day. It was decided that we are to stay mid-upper mountain to avoid the crowd. We did one test run, and up the mountain we go. Gosh, it was tiring for my lack of fitness. After 2 runs down the knob, I could not go on. Taking it easy on my right leg has taken a toll. Fortunately, it wasn't nearly as bad as that weekend where I found I would swerve in one direction suddenly. After getting down the mountain, I wobbled back to the car...
Back at the hotel, it was to the hot tub. No furry soup this time but some REALLY loud and obnoxious hot tub partiers. Holy crap were they horrible to be in the hot tub over. I'm pretty sure smoking is prohibited. The hotel staff were very quick to leap on someone who threw a cigarette out. They certainly weren't quick to go at the people smoking pot next to us. One person even had to leave our hot tub due to sickness from it. Of course, things got better when they were kick out (or attempted to be). The manager said that he's gotten complaints about them, anything from noise to staying in the hot tub too long (6 hours). One girl burst out "Is it those animal people complaining?". Oh god...I burst out laughing...oh god. Time to go...hahahahahaha. Dinner was decided to be at Jasper Pizza Place. I got the lasagna I was craving! We headed back to the hotel, went to the hot tub and suited (I handled). Then it was off to bed.
Monday-Wake up was bright...and early. QB took awhile in the bathroom making me think that he had left the lights on before leaving. Then I heard something from the bathroom. After he left, I went back to sleep and woke up a few minutes before check out. Good thing I had packed the night before. We were just about to head out when we ran into
drjackal. He looked tired to say the least and grave. But, the guy always looks a bit mopey. Still, we recruited him to help us pack the car. Wheelie tote is the best thing in the world! Almost everyone appeared to be gone home already or in the process of it. We met up with Kenta and Lyosha for breakfast. Breakfast was awkward as everyone was feeling exhausted. Still, I wanted to do some shopping. It was warmly met by all as we all needed an excuse to wake up. We went around Jasper for an hour before someone became exhausted. Ride arrangements were made and we headed back home.
The ride back home was nice. I drove Grael's car back. Mind you, it's been awhile since I had a long drive like that. It also doesn't help that I tend to be a slower driver.
Overall, that was FN. It was definitely a unique get together. I would definitely reattend if given the chance. However, there are a few points I was less than impressed with. I'm a furry, the wi fi SUCKED. I mean, it's BAD when FurAffinity works better than Google and my email. Nothing really says "Hi QB" quite like him walking into our room to me screaming at my laptop like the Aventura Penguin. Hoooooonk!

RF con Report
Posted 12 years agoSo, I am finally back from RF 2013. This was so not one of my better cons, that's for sure. I came back with a minor case of con crud. Understandable seeing how I averaged 5 hours of sleep a night.
Wednesday Night- We left right after Grael got back from work. I forgot a few things but managed to stop by Calgary to pick somethings up. Calgary was an interesting affair. Grael took his bike on a truck while QB and I took the Jetta. We dropped the truck/bike combo off at my place after Grael dealt with the douche that wanted but didn't want to buy the bike. We ate at my place and headed off to Golden and stopped for the night (Well, 5 hours).
Thursday- Boy, was I crank. Fortunately, it was Grael dealing with breakfast for me for I would've murdered the cashier at McD's for taking 3 attempts to get my order right. After promptly passing out, we kept going to Seattle. We didn't hit opening ceremonies because traffic was slower than a running dog. Still, we landed in time to look around a little bit. The hotel didn't listen to our request for a conjoining room with some friends, or even put us in the same block...or remotely the same block...Ok, we were on opposite ends of the hotel! Wonderful job hotel. We stuffed ourselves at the Old Spaghetti Factory with someone from Minnesota. Food was great and i finally managed to have a full appetite. Then it was back to the hotel for sleep...Good thing ear plugs exist
Friday- Breakfast was at iHop. It wasn't that bad, just a little greasy (America...). We went back to the con where I was promptly whisked away from buying soap to meet for going downtown, which took too long, went back to buying soap, and met to go downtown. That turned into a gong show and a jerk fest. Holy hell, can furries be impatient. It turned into a "Let's go now or be damned". Grael went to drop somethings off for me and nearly got left behind. There was a panic over a door closing which involved security yelling at us. Someone held the door open and didn't listen to security saying the train is leaving in 8 minutes. Waiting for the final two members of our party, I stood outside the train doors and waited for them to come up the escalator as I had heard the security guard say "8 minutes". Next thing I know, I feel my arm being pulled practically out and me being dragged through the closing train doors. Fuck...Furries. Yeah, that did the opposite of make my day. We made it downtown and hit a chocolate shop and got to Pike's Place, where we were promptly separated. We explored the market and had lunch then went back to the hotel. Grael and I suited for a bit then I met up with Kin, Fuzz and Bazz and we headed to the Space Needle. I have to say, it was a short night, but one of the highlights of my night and I think that saved my day. We got back, then I went to get food with Grael. Then, it was sleep time...Kinda...
Saturday- We went out for breakfast with some random people. I was feeling quite ill after getting virtually no sleep. I collapsed at the hotel while everyone else went shopping. They came back in time for the Fur Suit Parade. We did the parade, I took the suit off and we went around the dealers den. QB came back and announced that we got voluntold into the variety show. We went back to watch the variety show...which was on Furry Time, so we went to the dealer's den then tottled back for the tail end of the Variety Show. While some parts of the Variety show made my ears bleed, most of it was pretty good. Claim Jumper was for supper and it was delicious and welcomed since I was STARVING! My soup was gone in 30 seconds and my meal almost as fast. We hung out with some friends for the night and it was back to the room for "sleep"
Sunday-Ok...boy did I feel like crap...Not enough sleep was finally taking its toll on me. I had a blinding headache, my body was aching, and I just felt muggy. We went to Temperance's photoshoot. We ran into Kenta who had the magical drug called advil...thank the lord! Lunch was on the menu then it was a rush back to the con for the last bit of Dealer's Den. Then the last minute of the photoshoot. Then closing ceremonies.
All in all, a full con...just not a great con due to lack of sleep. Sorry QB for keeping you up with my snoring on Monday...

Closing a Chapter in my Life
Posted 12 years agoI sit here typing on this computer for the final time. I am finally able to sit back and write this. At last, I am going to be leaving this clinic that has made my life miserable and burnt out for nearly the last year. While there were a lot of bad point to this clinic, there were still some good times.
This clinic, as much as I hate to admit, saved my career. I was an inch of quitting the field after such a horrid experience at a previous clinic. Slowly though, I watched this clinic turn from a place I loved to work at to another version of the clinic I had left. The only difference was that I was a senior this time round and didn't take the brunt of the abuse most of my juniors had to endure.
I think about the many vets I have come and gone. One, I remember us growing together before he left for his family. I remember others who have touched my life in more ways than one. I think of various vets...ok...9, looking for mentorship and not getting it. I was forced into a mentorship position for a rank higher than mine. Obviously, it didn't work too well. Still, I tried. Then, became the person to pump someone back up when they were deflated by an unreasonable boss.
I could sit here bashing my boss all day. In fact, I am very tempted to do that. However, amidst the cold shoulder I am getting from her. The blame for starting the resignation of senior members, I had wished for a more amiable leaving. We pushed through so many rough cases together, from blasting through 4 surgeries to finding out a dog had an elastic band tied around its muzzle for nearly a week all the way to looking at a dog with its head nearly chopped off with a machete. I am admittedly a bit sad that my send off is being done by another senior vet without her present (or even looking at me for the last week).
Admittedly, it is fitting. It is this vet that saved me. I am still happy earning a send off by her in lieu. (Damn it, I'm getting misty eyed)
I will miss the rewards of teaching. However, I can sit back now and know that I at least made a difference in someone's career. I was someone's Anne, I was also someone else's Dr. Singh. I made someone's experience at the clinic, I also helped someone keep going. I was no one's confidante until I handed in my letter of resignation. My resignation surprised all, even my TA. It opened me up to a world I never expected. I wasn't the only one in my struggle, I wasn't the only one who felt frustrated and pent up. The stories I heard, the rants were scary at the very least.
I saw loads of Tech assistants and receptionists leave. Some were better than others. I wish more than anything I could still continue working with my most trusted TA. I could rely on him on almost anything...in fact I had him do a good chunk of my work within certification limits whenever I could. As long as he can count to 28, I'm ok with that. I watched loads of TA/Reception reach their limits. A few of them watched me nearly hit mine...One made a bet that I would "Go kung fu" on the boss' ass. Ironically enough, I'm the only one to have succeeded in pissing her off to this degree...Well, I saw reception get decimated...that was fun.
Recently, I was glad to work with an old coworker from the beginning of my career once again. One big disappointment with me leaving is not being able to work with him again. I wanted to see just how much damage he can fix. In working with him again, I realize how far I've come. In me working with him in the past, was confident I have found a better mentor and rock for the new vets.
It is so easy to celebrate leaving. Sadly, it is just as easy to miss the people I loved working with. For once, it is me in control of who departs. For once, it is me departing and leaving them behind. It is strange for people to be sad to see me go. Then, I realize that I've always been there for them, from the start of their time here even from the start of their career. Still, it is time for me to get outta here. Adios

Open letter to my poor self
Posted 12 years agoDear Body,
I am very sorry for the abuse I have put you through these last few months. I promise you a very nice vacation very soon. It's just a few more days of this and hopefully you can stop making me feel like crap everyday. I would however request that you give my appetite back for the time being...please?
Sincerely,
Caina

Plushie Raffle

Posted 12 years agoSo here I am...at work. Having a very rare lunch time...YAY! Thanks to a whole load of BS at work (new manager...that really should stick to managing other things) I'm now stuck for essentially my whole shift as the only tech. So, I go from being pulled in 2 different directions at all times to being pulled at 3. *Grumble*, I have to update 3 vets almost every hour...every client 2 times a day...Must be nice to be allowed to freak out when one person asks for an update everyday.
So yes, that is my life. Other than this cold that I'm fighting down. I like to call it Work Crud. It got worse after my friend's wedding but it started from work so work crud. Well, Grael's birthday is in a few days, better start getting ready for that.
