Art during socials era + Birthday
General | Posted 2 months agoMany artists, after finding out a few 100k artists on X tracing AI slop, had this exact thinking:
"it's unfair that socials reward slop and not art made with love"
Of course it's unfair but... socials have never rewarded quality, they reward the traffic generated by your post, because traffic = money for the corp behind the social. For the same reason socials drive you to doomscroll, so you consume a lot of content in a short time, therefore even artists on there are less prone to stop by, take some time and comment (Unless something is extremely stimulating, like Reels, TikToks, etc...), so basically your 5 hours drawing's role on the platform is solved in 2 seconds and a like button.
The ways to solve it are many:
Artists dropping socials in favor of places like Cara (openly anti-AI) or other -older- Art Galleries would be the most extreme yet unlikely to happen.
What I'd worry about would be a slow but inexorable turn towards discord/telegram servers because that would be no more a big community, but just a lot of tiny isolated echo-chambers... but my honest hopes instead are all into artists starting considering socials as a showcase and pair them to an art gallery (FA? NG? Cara? Tumblr?...) to find again maybe less in numbers, but more meaningful interactions.
Oh also! It's my birthday!! :D

Guidelines to prevent scammers impersonating artists
General | Posted 3 months agoConsidered that several scammers are impersonating artists, I better be clear:
1) My commissons are still closed until further notice.
2) Before opening them, I'll make a post on here, Bsky, IG and/or Twitter.
3) Along with the official opening post, I'll also define TOS and modality.
4) I won't take commissions from DM. To optimally manage the queue -considered due dates, complexity and all- I usually organize all the works and give dates/infos etc... (Regular customers know)
5) Be wary of any other modality, especially if via DM.
More in general, before commissioning an artist be sure to be talking to THAT artist and not an impersonator. Check the profile, the posts, the links, etc... and always contact them through official channels, not DMs unless you are friends with them.

I was once asked why I am more active on socials lately
General | Posted 12 months agoFuraffinity being offline for many days more often or suffering systemic issues is probably the main reason.
Not the kind of audience, not the structure of the gallery... simply the fact it keeps giving off "One day I may go offline forever" vibes.
Of course I keep staying here too, here's where I started, but cmon!

I can finally use my nickname!

Contacts update
General | Posted a year agoI updated my contacts list with my Bluesky one.
I am more active there lately! :)

Let's assume...
General | Posted a year agoIt won't happen probablty, but... let's assume that Furaffinity will soon close down forever: where would you go?
Follow me on Cara!
General | Posted 2 years agoIn case you already know Cara, I give you immediately my link: https://cara.app/foxpopvli
If you haven't heard about it I will make it as short as possible:
Recently, Meta (so Instagram too) has started implementing Meta AI. You can opt out its program but... who trusts Meta afterall?
So several artists made this new website which gained 100k users in no time. Now the pros and cons:
PROS
- Has the best of IG and Twitter in one place.
- No AI allowed and Glaze is included in the project.
- Very intuitive and stable.
- Already has the main features included DMs
CONS
- No NSFW for now (ignore if you don't do NSFW lol)
- Slow. But it's temporary because they are improving their servers.
NOW... I don't believe in "sites replacing other sites" for now because you need a very big reason like what happened in Tumblr in 2018, whose policy and algorithm affected heavily even SFW artists... but I'd see this period as a sowing period after the which you'll be able to keep only those places who has yielded somehow.
See ya!

Web VS Art: I'm tired
General | Posted 2 years agoNo, I'm not tired not of art making! I like producing art! :D
Well... let's proceed in order with the facts first:
Few weeks ago, I was talking about "https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10812154/"
During the last two days, I faced two things that -this time- hit me personally: One of the -many- bot users on X deliberately ripped off my whole nickname and even the reference to my bluesky. Despite all, the X staff ignored the flags and the account is still there and two AI oriented platforms (AIEasyPic and CivitAI) have hosted an AI model trained on my own art and the results are listed above (to you the opinion):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XL.....usp=drive_link
https://image.civitai.com/xG1nkqKTM.....0/3840674.jpeg
Of course, the first thing I did was to gather all the reference to Laws, Acts and Directives in force in Europe and write to both the websites a Cease And Desist letter for Copyright Infringment, hoping it will do something (but I doubt).
Now the thoughts:
I feel tired, worried and disheartened.
I feel tired because being an artist online today means to fulfill successfully all a series of tasks to not fade away in the web scenario: You have to find the magic formulas to prevent socials from hiding your posts from your mutuals feed, you have to keep your discord servers alive everytime with new ideas, streams and activities, you have to post your stuff on multiple accounts because the userbase migrates here and there depending on what happens... and I struggle at ALL of those things because it's truly too much to be managed by ONE person (especially if that person has a job and a life).
I feel worried because I fear that if the forementioned stuff causes a fade-out of my presence online that may be easily compensated by some other "Fox Pop AI model" (this applies to me as well as other artists) and at the same time, I worry that my stuff might end up in some AI model.
I feel disheartened because... Socials keep existing and expanding, AI keeps existing and expanding, but... countermeasures/solutions?

Posting art today: Art VS Content
General | Posted 2 years agoI was reflecting about posting art online these times and I admit I don't feel too happy of the situation because at a side there are too many decentralized copy-paste places to use (Itaku, Mastodon, Bluesky, etc), but at the same time I feel the main places are getting worse:
Twitter/X:
Since Musk bought it, it became worse. You either pay for a blue check or get hidden. Plus, shadowbans without reasons, lot of bots, crypto sh!t...
Instagram:
IG is a slot machine where your posts are the coins. In the best case your art reaches the right audience, in the worst case you get rude commentary from random people (causing your post and your future posts to be deboosted for heavy language). Plus, tons of bots. The only solution is to create trendy stuff, regardless quality and content. AI stuff going viral is the proof.
Deviantart:
I honestly don't feel too safe on a platform that explicitely endorses, supports and allows AI scrapinf on others art. Also due to this, a good slice of artists dropped it, so it's not even convenient anymore.
Tumblr:
Dead.
Bluesky:
A copy of Twitter I still put my hopes on, but I feel it is more like a straw fire, fed by the hype of the moment (like Threads).
Furaffinity:
Would still be a decent place despite its (too) old structure. Socials' potential bigger exposure drove many artists to drop it partially or completely. I call myself in too here; at first fell in the same trap, tgen went back, but honestly seeing many profiles collecting cobwebs while being active on other socials, kinda speaks from itself.
Discord servers/Telegram channels:
Same issue as all decentralized solutions. Limited and isolated.
Conclusions:
I feel like the focus moved from "art to enjoy" to "content to consume" and this is quite sad honestly.
Paradoxically AI may play a role here: if socials privilege AI (Twitter and Instagram especially) maybe artists may re-discover the pleasure of having an art community focused on art rather than just..."content"?

Can social networks replace art galleries?
General | Posted 4 years agoI was talking about this with a friend recently, after noticing how since Tumblr's death, many people migrated on Twitter not only from Tumblr but even from FA or other art galleries (I saw many inactive accounts here being very active on Twitter). Many times I heard questions like "Will Social Networks Art Galleries?". Is it possible? In 4 years on Twitter, that's what I could notice
What makes people go "socials > art galleries" is the bigger exposure and higher chance to get noticed, known and to know other artists (or customers)...which is actually great! I -myself- I experienced this on Twitter and I also could know many other artists long before reaching them here on FA, because it's somehow easier to spot similart artists... the hidden bad thing of twitter is a deadly combo made of "number stats, algorithms and art-as-consume-good".
Algorithms are on every social network, but not in art galleries... the algorithm exposes you or not depending on what you post, when you post and how often you post. Another big problem is number stats: artists on twitter are often "ranked" through their numbers. This makes 100k artists more interesting than 10k artists (even if we all know it's NOT so, not always at least), but the main issues caused by numbers are toxic competitivity and cloutchasing. In the first case, you risk to ruin your art hobby by comparing yourself to other people's result. In the second case, you might have to do with (sadly many) people who befriend you in order to get exposure and dump you away once got what they needed (art, exposure, introduction to bigger artists) and this becomes a problem when you start to gain popularity. The last big con is the fact social networks tend to propose art as a consume good. Indeed, the average user spends one second on each post. One second to decide if to interact or not with your piece. This causes quality to be a secondary thing on socials, because you have no time to see all the nice details you've put in your picture. What creates clout in socials is something immediate (memes, trends, etc) or relatable (some kind of comics, slices of life, etc...). Last thing -but that's a Twitter only thing- is the fact Twitter has no good gallery features. It's hard to browse and sort art
Said so: NO. Art galleries are a thing and social networks are another thing. Art galleries have a different environment, way to be. It'd be more correct to say they support each other somehow!
But again, that's my analysis and it's somehow a bit subjective! Share your thoughts below! :D

Many movies! | More anthro stuff finally!
General | Posted 4 years agoMany movies coming out, many opinions by many people... when it's so, I get curious so I watched some trailer!
Here are my thoughts and the links for you to watch them! :D
Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers Trailer
My feelings are as opposed and mixed as cola and milk. I don't know if to expect something cool as heck or a complete fai
Turning Red
The story seems nice, but -it's stronger than me- that "Steven Universe " looking style in 3D isn't really my thing!
Sonic The Hedgehog 2
NOW I want to see this! Jim Carrey as Robotnik... Tails and Knuckles joining... catchy teaser... YESSS!
The Bad Guys
Yes, I'm biased with anthro-featuring movies but... characters and story look just soooo cool! Can't stop to think about "Mr Wolf" from Pulp Fiction!
Aside from these and generally speaking... one thing I noticed is that -finally!!!- more and more movies/big media featuring anthros are popping out!
I hope this will help the furry fandom to be known and seen in a slightly better way, there's a big need of this!

Twitter NSFW ban + News
General | Posted 5 years ago[EDIT]
Through you all i knew a detail I didn't know. Minor NSFW had been posted without consent and with blackmailing purposes.
At this point the lawsuit is more than right. I just hope they affect photo/video content at this point.
I keep hearing rumors about a possible NSFW ban on Twitter, due to a lawsuit against it. I'm not too worried buuuut you never know... The SISEA thing worried me a bit (glad it died at the end of the 117th Congress) but if this new thing about Twitter happens... There's a risk of a "Tumblr" effect.
I don't think it will ever happen, but just in case... I want to remind you all where else you can find me, apart from Twitter:
