[important] Journal for Loom! contributors
Posted 12 years agoHey there guys,
I have begun sending out the print copies of Loom!
If you submitted art or writing to the first issue, please leave a comment here when your copy arrives.
If you submitted art or writing and want a copy, but still haven't sent me your mailing info, please do so by PM asap.
Notes:
1) This is my first time doing something like this by myself, so there are errors in the first run that I'll have to iron out in the future. First run copies have an "@ REV 0" mark on the inside cover so I can tell them apart from possible future runs.
2) The print version differs slightly from the digital version in terms of how text and images are laid out.
Some info I'd like:
- What do you think of the size of the magazine?
- What do you think of the paper quality?
- What is your opinion on page layout?
- What is your opinion on fonts used, are they readable? (etc.)
If you submitted work, please save this journal and comment on it when your copy arrives.
- frrreder!

If you met a macro fur in real life
Posted 12 years agoIf you were to meet a macro fur in real life, one around 100 times your height, and could ask them one question, what would it be?
Say you were sitting in the palm of his hand and having a casual conversation, what would you want to talk about?
What would you be most interested in learning about him?

Macro Zine Update: name, deadlines, and guidelines
Posted 12 years agoHey guys. Things have been moving pretty fast with the zine and have changed quite a bit.
The title of the zine as of now is LOOM!: all things big and small . Since I'm trying to have a good representation of both macro and micro themed art, this title seems to be vague enough to cover all bases.
So here are the stats of the first issue thus far:
Featured artist:
crateis a great artist new to the macrofur community
Other confirmed artists:

At this time I'm looking to get at least four more confirmed artists, so drop me a PM if you're interested.
Featured Writer:
rwolf5
Other confirmed writers:
&
Don't be discouraged if your stuff didn't make it in, I'm always looking for work to put in future issues :)
I'd also like to give thanks to
bennie
wolfkidd and Mr. Terry Wessler (not sure if he's on FA) for using their experience to give indispensable advice and encouragement.
Oh, and who could forget?
The one...
The only...
(There, I hope he likes that :3)
For helping with artist connections and being a wealth of different ideas.
Anyways, back to business.
Revised Submission Guidelines:
Visual art:
-Will be printed in grey-scale, 8.5x5.5" in portrait format
-Can range anywhere from G to XXX
-Must be submitted in .GIF, .PNG, or compressed .TIFF format
Written art:
-Must be between 1000 and 2500 words
-Can range anywhere from G to XXX
-Must be submitted in .TXT or .RTF format
Please send submissions to:
atticuspamer[at]gmail.com
or PM me if you use dropbox, things like that.
More refinements will be added in the future~
Deadlines:
The deadline for the first issue is August 15th
If that seems too soon then say so, but that's where it is right now.
I'm thinking of September 15th as the deadline for the second issue, which would come out in October as a fall issue.
Does this seem too soon? Would a November issue work better? Should I wait until January and skip to a winter issue?
I'd like to hear people's thoughts on the matter.
As always, I'm looking for submissions and suggestions/fun ideas, so don't hesitate to PM me :)
More to come.

Macro Zine update: submission guidlines for test issue
Posted 12 years agoI want to the local printer's today to get a quote on production cost for the first issue.
This first issue will be more of a test to see if the format goes over well and will include only art and written work.
20 copies printed in black and white at 30 pages each will cost $98.73 according to the printer.
With postage and other stuff I'd probably budget about $150 to get a test issue out, which can be done easily.
I found a program similar to Adobe InDesign, which I used a lot in school for designing brochures and things, so I'll be playing around with that for the next few days deciding on a layout.
If you're interested in submitting something, post a comment here or PM me, I'll need writers and artists, though I'm not sure how many slots will be available as of yet
Basic guidelines for the test issue:
Artwork
Can be something you've drawn or something specifically for the magazine
Must be black and white or a sketch, no color yet
Preferably portrait format (landscape might require printing it sideways or resizing it which looks sloppy)
Traditional work must be scanned at at least 600 dpi and delivered as a .png image
Written work
About 1000 to 2500 words
May have to be reformatted slightly to fit

Macro zine name + layout ideas
Posted 12 years agoWas brainstorming as to what the name of the zine should be. I kind of like the name 'Micromegas'
What do you guys think? I'd like some feed back or ideas, maybe we could vote.
This is my planned lay out for the zine so far:
[Front cover]
Index of artists
*Editor's easy chair* (this is a small section for a written piece dealing with macro/micro themed ideas)
-clean art and stories- (including things like soft crush, poses, and paw play, etc)
-fursuit photography- (2 to 4 color photos of people in fursuits, enacting macro scenes, showing off their paws, or looming over the camera)
-adult art and stories- (everything from hard crush to macros having their way with cities, rampage scenes or using micros as sex toys)
[Back cover]
Once again, I'd enjoy some feed back or suggestions.

Thoughts on a macro/micro themed Zine?

Sumerian slice of life: part 1
Posted 14 years agoA letter I translated from Sumerian to English.
It is from the Ur III period around 2100 BC to a man named Lu gi na asking why his annual grain harvest was late.
To Lu gi na
The sailor
who owes grain
to the Bright Inanna
who was at your houses window,
when the waters flooded?
From the royal fields
to the window of your stable
who will establish the good grains
that turn our fate?

Exciting moment!
Posted 14 years agoToday I tried to see how good I was at translating the Sumerian language into English. I've done a few simple translations before but was not sure how accurate they were. So I took a small line in Sumerian from the ancient cuneiform epic Enmerkar and the king of Aratta and tried to see what it said without going to the English translation until I was done.
It was a short line from the epic, line 510 and went as follows:
igi mu-un-il aratta ki - ac ba tej
The middle was the easiest part, aratta ki-ac, aratta being a name, ki meaning place, and ac (or ak) being a possessive term. Thus "King of Aratta"
So now I had:
igi mu-un-il {king of Aratta} ba tej
Then I went to the first part, igi mu-un-il. igi = eye and il means to observe, thus putting the two together would create igi-il, the Sumerian word for Look. Then there was the mu-un in between. un means "high" and mu acts as a ventive verbal marker, which means the word is directed at the speaker. Therefore, igi mu-un-il literally means "he looked up".
Now:
{He looked up at the King of Aratta} ba tej
This was where I got confused. Ba is a term meaning "its" (also represented as bi or bia) and tej (or teg) means "approach".
So my very first real translation of Sumerian came out as:
{He looked up at the king of Aratta its approach}
I thought I'd done something wrong, so I went to the English translation and behold, line 510!
"He lifted his eyes as he approached Aratta"
Aratta being a place, pretty close though!
Sorry if this seems boring or whatever but I was so excited that I had to take it down somewhere.

Birthday next week
Posted 14 years agoMy birthday is next week on the 2nd of March. I'll be 18 finally!
I'll be graduating in May and hopefully moving out in August or September of this year.
Hopefully I'll be getting a laptop for my birthday, I was thinking maybe a Dell Inspiron mini or the like.
Also I'm getting my work published next month! Things are getting very fast and exciting.
Also:
Been making slow progress with my website, added the Dirk Shrinks comic.
I need to add a home button and an index page for the comic though.
Oh well, when time permits.

Making my own website
Posted 14 years agoMy friend
gave me some of his web space so now I have my own site.
It's just what I've been looking for in a site, quite simple and easy to customize.
http://www.freder.crystaldreams.org/
There's not much there right now except for stuff that either wasn't complete enough for furaffintiy and/or didn't fit into a specific category, so bask in the glory of my rudimentary html programming and art that only a couple people have ever seen.
Also check back often if you want. I'm updating it pretty much hourly in my spare time.

Deleted submissions
Posted 14 years agoWhy do deleted submissions still show up in your favourites?
It's not that I mind them but what annoys me is when I can't remember which submission was deleted or why I favourited it in the first place. There also doesn't seem to be a way to un - fav them so they're there forever.
Unless there is away to delete them.
I also don't like it when people delete their entire gallery. Especially if it contains a lot of commissions/requests. Though it is up to the artist.

Inkbunny
Posted 15 years agoYes, I have been peer pressured into getting an Inkbunny account :P
http://inkbunny.net/freder
I'll probably post some of my favourite drawings there as soon as I bother to find them in my hard drive and then add newer stuff slowly like normal.
School has kept me so busy, I've gotten to do some art but not really what I want to draw.
More later.

News and stuff
Posted 15 years agoSchool has kept me very busy lately so there is little time to draw furry stuff.
Actually my "human" work has kept me busy as well with the school newspaper comics and illustrated version of The Illiad as well as a few other comics I want to do and future stuff for 300 baud magazine.
I'm getting very rusty at furry art and unfortunately won't be able to focus my full attention on't for a while, but I'll try to keep up with various ideas and such, though I'm out of practice. I thought about posting my humanesque art here but figured it would be in bad taste for the website, so maybe in my scraps.
I've been too busy to even visit FA too much or even Offscale, mostly focusing on my e-mail for messaging, so drop me one of those if you like.
atticuspamer[at]gmail.com
I also got a copy of "Revolver" by the Beatles, it sounds Awesome!
more eventually...

Halo for the 2600 VCS released
Posted 15 years agoAfter a year or so, Halo for the Atari 2600 has been released.
You can download it for free here:
http://www.atariage.com/forums/topi.....the-game-here/
As far as I know the actual carts are pretty limited but you can burn your own with the right equipment.
It is very awesome, with 64 rooms, a title screen, and a final boss all fit into 4Kb of memory.

ENIAC stuff
Posted 15 years agoENIAC was the first all electronic computer built after WWII in 1946. It weighed 30 tons and was kept in a gymnasium. The CPU was made up of 17,000 vacuum tubes (of the radio kind, as computer ones were not yet invented) which burned out very rapidly and had to be continuously maintained by women pushing carts of tubes around.
ENIAC stood for Electronic Numeral Integrator And Computer, was used to plot the movement of missiles, and could process about 8000 numbers per second.
My friend's Grandfather was one of the people who helped design it. It was programmed by manipulating hundreds of wires to get the desired result which took hours and sometimes days.
The reason I posted this is because I first read about it when I was 9 years old but until now I had no idea exactly how much memory it had. At lest until yesterday.
The answer: About 80 characters of information, or 80 bytes I suppose.
It blew my mind that there ever existed a computer like that and it makes me appreciate it even more. To think that a 30 ton machine made up of 17,000 radio tubes and required constant care couldn't even store the amount of characters in a tweet!! or even a shout box here on FA!
And 1946 wasn't even that long ago, so it really shows how far we've come in such a short time.
