Posted 13 years agoLast night the Film the dark night rises was released at midnight showings across the nation. One of the theaters showing this premier was the Aurora Century 16. There was so much interest in the film that they had opened 3 more theaters than originally planned to do additional showings and ticket sales. It was all supposed to be a lighthearted and bittersweet end the Christopher Nolan directed trilogy of the Dark Knight. But a 24 year old medical student from Riverside California had other plans. Roughly 2/3rds through the film James Holmes entered the theater and opened fire on the people in the third row and then moved his gun further up the mass of people peppering the entire audience with bullets. Unloading multiple clips into the crowd of people who were left with two choices. Cower in fear hoping to be missed or try to escape by running AT the assailing gunman standing at the bottom of the theater by the exits. When all was said and done the carnage stood at 50 injured individuals, and 10 dead on the scene. several people where rushed to the hospital where 2 more passed away leaving this mans death toll currently at 12, the same as columbine high school.
As James finished is "work" he calmly walked out the back doors of the theater and to his car where he was quickly found by many officers with a SMILE on his face (such is the account of witnesses) and putting up ZERO resistance turns himself in to police. Where it is said he then let them know that he had booby trapped his apartment with many explosive devices. An apartment in a building set aside ONLY for medical students.
Now this is ALL I will say on James Holmes. I will not comment on who he is as a person for I don't know. I can not speak to his motivations for I do not now. I can only speak for his actions. and his actions spoke volumes of evil.
I live in aurora Colorado. I had spent the day planning to attend the showing at the Aurora 16. I had had a rough day at work and good friend of mine had stood by me through this day so I wanted him to join me. He said He would get back to me around 9:30. Being an impatient fellow I decided to just buy the tickets online to be sure I got seats. After 6 failed attempts to buy the tickets using the online system it became apparent that I would have to purchase them at the theater due to some "glitch" in the system. At 9:45 my friend contacted us saying another of his friends also wanted to see the film and had already purchased tickets at ANOTHER theater. The other theater was far more expensive and as me an my wife where deciding to just go to "our theater" our friend told us that he didn't know for sure why but he just had to have us with him. So he promptly purchased our tickets.
We were not at the aurora when it was hit. We were at Southland's some several miles away. We enjoyed our film and came home where I was able to crawl into my bed with my wife and sleep soundly. We where awakened this morning to calls and texts inquiring about our safety and if we were, in fact, alive. this is how I learned of James' attack. I have since heard from friends who were at the theater and in fact EXPERIENCED the shooting. and the only word they can use is terrifying. The only word I can use for myself and my family is blessed. Blessed not only that I was spared but also blessed that I can share this story with you and be given the opportunity to lead you in a simple prayer.

we ask only for peace.
Peace in the hearts of those racked by terror.
Peace in the minds of those asking why.
Peace for those who lost their lives needlessly.
Peace for those still fighting.
Peace for the officers hanging from windows trying to prevent further loss.

If we all start going willy nilly at james we will loose sight of what is important and that is the needed prayer and healing for those who have been hurt. thank you

Could use some prayers Guys (facing eviction)
Posted 13 years agoHey guys. could really use some prayers that some work comes down the pipeline soon I have until the 15th to come up with $600 back rent to my landlord or we face eviction. we have tapped all available avenues so far. My wife has been in and out of work for weeks do to illness associated with last years surgeries as well as a severely infected tooth and Work has been extremely slow for me not finding any clients for art,tattoos,or guitars (I work for http://www.guitarchaser.com)
I am terrified not knowing how I am going to fix this. we have never been this close to on the streets before. your prayers are appreciated and if you could pass the word around about the art I offer (or tattoo business if you live in Colorado) I would appreciate it immensely. Sorry to burden but I am seriously scared. it is VERY hard to find a place large enough to house 7 people at a decent rate

I am not currently attached to a shop but am legal and working either out if my home our out of yours. I am experienced and steady handed.
I am not willing to undertake any massive size projects or super heavy detail wok right now (no sleeves, portaits or full back pieces or anything like that at the moment at least) I am looking to do a Few 1"-5" pieces in the $20-$50 range just to get some holiday money together (haven't been able to afford a christmas gift for my wife in 3 year after getting the kids stuff and I would like to break that trend)
I know christmas is just around the corner but I have exhausted all my other options and am a little desperate. Sooooooo what do ya think fur folks?

My wife is having brain surgery at the end of the month. This is a VERY stressful endeavor. But more than that it takes our two income household down to a one income household for at least the next two months. Unfortunately I don't have the time to get another full time job without cutting into the hours I am already working and I would really like to be able to spend SOME time with my family. As such I have decided to create a specific commission to try to keep the rent paid and food on the table until which time my wife is able to go back to work in late march mid April.
Any help you guys could offer would be awesome and if can't commission but would be willing to forward this journal on I would love you forevah and evah. Thanks guys and here is the information on the Commission.
What you do
pick your card from the list below and either comment me or send me a note. I will put your name on the list. you then have 3 days to pay for it and I will complete the cards in a first come first served order (by payment not by note/comment)
What you get
You get an 8X10 digital image of your card to display on your fa but you also get a 2 2/3"x3 1/2" playing card mailed to you (yes the real card). it will be laminated and can be used as a badge if you so wish
What's it cost
Each card will be $25 this includes the digital and the actual card. After the whole deck is finished you will also have the option of buying full decks of cards with all the characters for $25

that is right across the street from park meadows mall and just round the corner from Wahoo's Fish Tacos.
We are currently rated #1 new haunted house in Denver and take our terror VERY seriously. That being said I hope you guys can all come out for a scream.

Posted 15 years agois anyone else but me upset by the fact that the only thing on the front page about 9/11 is the fact that we broke 400,000 registered users?
I understand that fur affinity caters to the whole world and not just the united states but I was under the impression that the whole world was effected by this tragedy. It's a sad day when we are all so busy and so wrapped up i our day to day routines that we have to be REMINDED to REMEMBER on a day of REMEMBRANCE.
Who knows, maybe I am the only feeling like this. Maybe I am the only one who still gets furious at the thought not only of what the terrorists did but also image the united states is putting out there that drove these psychopaths (and many others like them) to such extremes. No I am not excusing their actions or saying they where justified in any way. but have we as Americans ever stopped to think about how the rest of the world feels on the outside looking in? Ask an overseas friend sometime you might be shocked by the answer.
Either way guys and dolls. TAKE A MOMENT TO REMEMBER and maybe say a prayer if it's in your heart.
