I did the folder thing!
Posted 10 years agoThanks to
Snackish's directions, I was able to use My FA > Page Management > Submissions to batch process my gallery into folders.
It still took a good few hours, but now it's done! ... I think.
Is there any efficient way of checking if I have any submissions left in my Main Gallery that aren't in any other folders?

How do I folders?
Posted 10 years agoSo I found the Folder Management page through My FA > Page Management > Gallery Folders, which allows me to create folders and folder groups, but how do I efficiently assign my thousands of existing submissions into the folders I've created?
If I have to open up each submission and click "Change Info" then assign it to a folder from there then it's way too much work for me to sort my existing submissions into folders.
I need a way of batch assigning them through the gallery browsing interface.

I'm Back!
Posted 10 years agoBeen a couple of years since I was last really active in here.
The old drawing computer still works, mostly, but it refuses to calibrate the pen the way I'd like it to now.
No problem though, since I now have a phone with built-in Wacom digitizer.
I've been drawing and painting in "Autodesk SketchBook for Galaxy" on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 for the last couple of weeks, but only got around to uploading my works here today.

I'm sick of doing daily sketches
Posted 12 years agoIt has been more than three years since I started doing the daily sketch thing, and I've maintained my commitment to it more or less for that whole time.
Some days I've failed to get a daily sketch done, but I've always caught up on the ones I missed by doing more than one in a day afterwards.
Over the last couple of months I've been having to play catch-up more and more often though, and I've realised that I just don't really want to do it any more.
It has always been something of a chore, making sure to get them done every day, but it has become much more of a chore than anything else anymore, so I think it's time to stop.
Of course this doesn't mean I'm going to stop drawing completely. I'll still draw when I want to, but I won't be trying to keep to a once a day schedule.

Suggest an animal for me to paint
Posted 12 years agoI've enjoyed painting animals from google image photo references as my daily pics these last couple of days and I'd like to do some more, but it's hard to think of what animals to focus on so I'm asking my audience for suggestions.
Feel free to suggest whatever species your own fursona is and it'll be almost like free art for you.
Real animals are easiest, but feel free to suggest mythological ones too and I'll see what I can do combining different real animals to get the required result.

MiDFur and commissions
Posted 13 years agoI'm home from MiDFur now. Time to write a little wrap-up of the event I guess.
We drove down on Monday. Nice easy drive. It's almost the same distance from Sydney to Brisbane as it is from Sydney to Melbourne, but going to Melbourne is so much easier since the road is all nice 110km/h dual carriage-way instead of the mess of roadwork and 60k zones you get on the way up to Brisbane.
We stayed with some non-fur friends of ours in Sunshine.
When we realised the Dealers Den wasn't going to be open on Tuesday, the Rahball decided to spend that day getting more stock organised while I went in on the train to attend that day by myself.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we ran our table in the Dealers Den.
Rahball was selling Patterpillars, Build-A-Beastie patterns, T-shirts, comics, ACEOs and commissions.
I was mostly just chilling out behind my big monitor displaying my art and being ready to take commissions if anyone wanted to give me money.
No one really wanted to give me money on Tuesday, but I got one commission on Wednesday and two on Thursday:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9407071/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9413665/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9413707/
I don't think we really made enough money to cover our costs, but that's okay. We weren't trying very hard since we both have jobs that pay well enough these days that we don't do this stuff for a living.
It was still fun though, and nice to have time to hang out a bit with our Dealers Den neighbours
Naira (plus
Anonymsdogman and
Iseeyouthere),
Ithkale,
Dirtiran,
Atateatarin and
Snackish.
I attended all three of the art panels, they were all very well presented by
DarkNatasha and many other artists I know and admire including
BellTheOtter,
Rinatar,
Deezmo,
Thesaria,
Naira and
Dirtiran.
DarkNatasha is amazing! Such a great artist, and yet so friendly and down-to-earth too. I really enjoyed hearing from her in the art panels and at her "All about Dark Natasha panel" too.
With the Dealers Den not being open on Saturday, and no actual panels happening on that day either we decided not to attend that day and instead went to visit all the interesting animals at Melbourne Zoo.
By skipping the Saturday we missed out on the Charity Auction and the Closing Ceremony, but we've read or heard from friends about all the important points from those events.
Sounds like a very respectable amount of money was raised for charity!
It's a bit sad to hear that MiDFur as we know it is ending, but with it really just changing time, location and name it's not such a drama. As long as there's still a furry con happening in Melbourne around the end/start of the year it's all good. I'll be interested to hear what name ends up being chosen for it though.
Sunday was the drive home. Like the drive up it was very easy thanks to the quality of the roads between Melbourne and Sydney.
An interesting co-incidence occurred though, both times that we stopped for food or fuel, at Dog-On-Tuckerbox near Gundagai, and at Marulan, we found that Dirtiran, Atateatarin and Snackish were also stopped there too!
A few people took note of my FA user-name with the intention of perhaps commissioning me after the con, so I'm opening for commissions now if anyone is keen to buy some custom art.
The standard offer will be the same kind of thing as those commissions I linked earlier in this journal.
You provide a photo of yourself (or someone else) in the pose you want, plus a ref of your character, then I'll work with your photo as a reference to produce a picture that combines your look and pose with the details of your character.
If you're interested in commissioning something that doesn't really fit that standard offer, let me know and we can discuss it.
I'm happy to work anywhere within the scale of ratings from tame fully clothed, though modest no-bits nudity, tasteful nudity, erotic or explicit sexual content.
Pricing is as follows:
$15 for lineart, and another $15 to colour it.
I don't really need actual money, and I'd rather not have to deal with getting money into and out of PayPal, so my preferred method of payment is though gifts of games or content on Steam.
My Steam wishlist is here:
http://steamcommunity.com/id/spiritofcat/wishlist
Songs for Rocksmith are what I'm most interested in at the moment, and at $3.50 each, four of them makes $15, or eight make $30.
I'll open 3 slots for now with the expectation that I'll finish them my this time next week if people want them.
Depending on how that goes I'll open more after that.

TMI Wednesday?
Posted 13 years agoI saw a few TMI Tuesday journals and I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon, only it's already Wednesday here in Australia, so the title had to change.
Anyway, go ahead and ask me anything. I can't promise to give Too Much Information in my responses, but I'll try to answer with a reasonable level of detail. No subject is off limits, but the quality of the answers may vary depending on the content.

Terraria server down again.
Posted 13 years agoInternet seems to have flaked out again. The server is still running on my machine, but the internet connection seems to come and go at random right now, so don't be surprised if the server diappears out from under you.
Terraria Server is up again!
Posted 13 years agoYup, internet came good. Server is back up again now.
Terraria server is down for the moment
Posted 13 years agoSorry folks. Looks like my ISP is having some connection problems at the moment so my computers are without an internet connection. I'm posting this update from my phone.
Once the net comes back I'll get the server started again and post another journal to let you know.

Terraria Dedicated Server?
Posted 13 years agoI just found out there's a Dedicated Server program available for Terraria, and since my gaming PC tends to be left online all the time anyway I thought I might as well have a go of hosting a server.
I started playing it again recently after a couple of other friends just got into it for the first time.
I've played about 30 hours on my latest world, and I'm currently getting ready to tackle Skeletron and the Dungeon.
I'm not sure if I want to host with my current world or start a new one specifically to share with everyone.
If I host with my current world I run the risk of people wrecking stuff or bringing high level characters in and killing the Wall of Flesh before I'm ready for Hard Mode, so I'm leaning towards starting a new world, but then again, I'm pretty attached to the progress I've made in my world and don't really want to throw all that away.
However, if I get a few enthusiastic players it shouldn't take too long to make good progress in a new world.
If you have Terraria and would be interested in playing on my server then leave a comment here to say if you think I should use my current world or a new world, and I'll get back to your with the IP and Password details once I make the decision.
Edit: I've decided to start a brand new Large world for this now.
Comment if you want to play and I'll give you the details you need to connect.
Edit again: Server will be offline on Saturday afternoon and most of Sunday since I'm taking my computer to a friend's place. Should be up and running again sometime on Sunday evening.
Edit yet again: Server is back up now and should stay that way for many days to come.

Story ideas I'd like to see developed
Posted 13 years agoI'm not much of a writer, but I do like to read, and I often come up with ideas that I'd love to see developed into stories.
When I remember to, I write down those ideas in the hope that either I'll have a crack at writing them myself one day, or so that I can give them to other writers who are open for requests or commissions.
I came up with an idea today for a story that puts something of a sexy twist on the standard zombie horror formula.
Since vampires and werewolves became sexy I've always felt that zombies were a bit hard done by and could use something of a re-imagining.
Anyway, after writing down my ideas for how my sexy zombies would work, I finally got around to checking out Google Docs as an easy way of storing and distributing text.
I've uploaded my whole ideas.txt file to google docs now, and made it available for anyone with the link to read and comment on.
Here's the link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/.....1glvOKl_U/edit
If anyone would like to develop any of those ideas into actual stories, or write their own stories in the worlds I've hashed out there, feel free. Just let me see it when you're done and give credit for my ideas and worldbuilding.
There's an app called Google Drive that lets me edit my Google Docs files from my phone too, so I'll be adding more ideas to that file whenever they come to me.
Feel free to comment here or on google docs if you've got any kind of opinion about any of my ideas.

Tzigla - Collaborative drawings
Posted 13 years agohttp://tzigla.com/
Tzigla is for collaborative drawings
Specifically, the type of drawing where several artists create tiles that connect to each other to finally result in a complete drawing. The fun part is that they only see a small margin of the surrounding tiles so the results end up quite surreal.
I just discovered this site today.
There used to be a similar site called tiles.ice.org which I participated in many years ago, but has since disappeared from the face of the internet.
You can only see it via the wayback machine now.
I managed to find an old image that I worked on back then. You can see it here: http://bit.ly/JhjT03
And you can see the list of my tiles individually here: http://bit.ly/IHVNH4
Anyway, this new site, Tzigla, operates pretty much the same way that tiles.ice.org did, but one nice new feature they have included is an in-browser pixel editor, so that you can draw your tiles right there in the browser instead of having to fiddle around with an art program.
I've done a couple of tiles now on the newbie images, and I think I'll do a few more while I hone my skills and confidence before I jump into the advanced section.
This is really a lot of fun, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in creative collaborative art.
It may seem kind of daunting but it's not actually very difficult, especially when most of the images enforce a limited pallette, so joining seamlessly from one tile to the next is pretty easy.
If you think it sounds fun, I'd suggest reading these few pages of info on the site first:
http://tzigla.com/pages/about
http://tzigla.com/pages/help
http://tzigla.com/pages/tiles
And then jump straight in and have a go on one of the sandboxes or newbie images.
The more people contribute the faster the image will get completed and the more fun it'll be, so I encourage everyone to come and have a go.
You don't have to worry about signing up for an account or anything either. You can simply log in with your google, facebook or twitter account.

Tribes Ascend

I had some good times back in the day playing Tribes 2.
Now there's a new Tribes game, and it's free!
I never really could get into the modern multiplayer FPS games like Call of Duty and Team Fortress 2, but I'm loving this new Tribes game!
It's so much fun, skiing around the landscape, and flying off into the sky with your jetpack.
If you follow this link: https://account.hirezstudios.com/tr.....campaign=email and sign up then you'll automatically show up on my friends list in the game and we can play together.

Since it seems that zhaarteth has blocked me now I won't be able to post my final comment on his journal, so I'll post it here instead:
Looks like we'll have to agree to disagree.
I hope that this thread of comments remains visible though, because I think it fairly adequately displays both of our views on the matter.
The fact that I'm the only person to have ever even commented on this journal seems to suggest that your argument has less support than you think.
Normally if someone agrees with you they'll post a comment saying so.

But they only allow 4 photos and 4 videos there.
You can see the full set of videos my dad took with his new ipad2 over on youtube:

I think you can still make donations too, so if you're impressed with what I've done, drop the Leukemia Foundation some cash on my profile page:

World's Greatest Shave
Posted 13 years agoThis year I'm going to be participating in the World's Greatest Shave.
It's a charity event to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
I'm going to be shaving off all my hair and beard, so please support me by visiting http://my.leukaemiafoundation.org.a.....ationID=419254 and pledging a donation if you can afford to.
The actual shaving event is set to happen in March, 15th-17th.

Fixed (most of) my Skyrim issues!
Posted 14 years agoAlright, after a bit of investigation on the Bethesda forums I've found a couple of user-made fixes for the problems introduced by the new patch.

The 360 controller bug is fixed by an edit to the controlmap.txt file by a forum member named repeater: http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.ph.....#entry19561742
Now I just need a fix to make bookshelves work again and it'll all be good as new!

Skyrim got patched, for the worse.
Posted 14 years agoSkyrim got a new patch today. It was meant to fix a bunch of issues, but it seems to have caused more problems than it has solved.
There are widespread reports of dragons flying backwards and avoiding fights with the player, as well as elemental, magic and poison resistance no longer working, and various issues with the controls.
I haven't had the problems with dragons, but I've noticed that my resistances don't seem to be working. Mages and dragons are delaing me a lot more damage than they should be.
The real hassle for me though is what they've done with the controls.
I play with a 360 controller, and right from the start I switched the functions of the Y and A buttons on it so that Jump is on A and Activate is on Y.
Before today that worked just fine. Y activated and A jumped, but in menus A was still the main selection button, and Y mostly just served to favourite and unfavourite items.
However, since this new patch, A still jumps and Y still activates, but things get a bit confusing as soon as I have to interact with a menu. Suddenly it has changed so that I have to use Y to select my response in conversations. In the inventory A now does fav/unfav and Y makes me eat ingredients or equip items.
On the map I still press A to select a location for fast travel, but now I have to hit Y instead of A when I confirm my choice.
Worst of all though, the quests and options menus won't acknowledge input from Y OR A. I have to use Enter on the keyboard instead!
I hope Bethesda release another patch soon to undo all the damage they've done this time.
Until then I'll probably spend my time playing other games that actually work the way they're supposed to.

More Skyrim
Posted 14 years agoI've managed to level my enchanting up quite a lot and used it to solve the health problem I mentioned in the previous journal.
I still only have something like 140 base health, but I've enchanted my armour and a ring and amulet to fortify my health, so now I've got just over 300 health when I'm wearing all 3 items.
I've also made some rings and amulets of elemental resistance, so I can have 62% resistance to fire, frost or shock as I see fit. Actually, for shock I get 93% because my boots are enchanted for that too.
I found a source to buy Daedra Hearts from, so now I've crafted myself a full set of Daedric Armour. It has slightly better defense than Dragonplate, and looks much nicer too. The only problem I have with it is the helmet. It has asymetrical spikes and it totally hides my face. The only way you can see that I'm a khajiit is my tail now.

Skyrim!
Posted 14 years agoSkyrim is so awesome!
I managed to aquire it about a week early on the 360, so I've played a few hours more than most of my friends.
I had the PC version preordered, and when that arrived I did some research and found out how to transfer my savegame from the 360 to the PC.
I've missed a few achievements on steam because of that though, which is slightly amusing.
I don't have the Citizen achievement even though I do own a house, and I don't have the Daedric Influence achievement even though I regularly wear the Masque of Clavicus Vile when dealing with merchants.
Interestingly I DO have the Apprentice and Adept achievements, although they both list as having been unlocked at exactly the same time. I guess that's the time when I first loaded my imported save.
Also, steam's log of how long I've played only counts the time I've spent on the PC version, and not the 37 hours I played on the 360 before importing my save.
I've been playing as a Khajiit (Of course), and I take something of an unusual approach to melee combat.
Khajiit have a racial ability called Claws that lets them deal 15 damage when attacking unarmed, which is more than most weapons you'll find at the start of the game, so from very early on I've just been punching and slapping my opponents instead of using swords or axes or hammers.
The really good bit though is that I'm also a Heavy Armour user, so it didn't take me too long to aquire the Fists of Steel perk, which grants the ability "Unarmed attacks with Heavy Armor gauntlets do their armor rating in extra damage."
After quite a few hours working in the forge I've not trained my Smithing up to level 100, and aquired all the smithing perks, so I can create and improve Dragon armour, so now I have Dragonplate gauntlets with an armour rating of 58, meaning that when I punch an enemy it's like I'm hitting him with a weapon that has a damage rating of 73!
