No one reads these anyways, and why ask on a furry art website of all places, but I got tired of the one I was using, and I suppose just some recommendations is a good place to start. Anyway. Suggestions? Comments? Queries or suggestions? Even advisories like "STAY AWAY FROM THAT ONE BECAUSE IT'S FOR WHORES" would be awesome.

Unfortunately, things are going... well, they're going very poorly for one of my friends. His mother is very sick and it looks like they may lose the support they had from the state.
If you're in the area, he's putting together an event, the proceeds of which will go towards helping to maintain medical coverage of some sort at the very least.
I feel a little guilty that all I can do right now is re-post his journal with the links in it for the time being...

I had such a great time at the con. Sure, it wasn't without its hiccups: the hotel double booked an event with this one so reg opened late, some people got annoyed with certain panels or events that either happened or didn't, but fuck, it was a first year con.
I spent most of my time working in the staff hospitality room, but I did still get to wander and enjoy the rest of the con. I really liked what I saw and really can't wait until the second year. I'm not planning on leaving the pacific north west any time soon, so that should be pretty easy to do.
Anyway, if you didn't get a chance to go this year, I would highly recommend going next year.

Constructed Language
Posted 12 years agoWell, I'm working on one. I have about 1520 words and a set of grammar. Now, one of my friends is using it for her story for place names, character names, and some cultural points (which I totally signed on for and am helping her with it). I also use it for place names when I play Civilization.
But really, what should I do with it in the long term? I don't anticipate it being the next Tolkien Elvish or Na'vi or the language used in the Game of Thrones TV show, but I would like to see it being used in more places. I can't art very well, nor can I really pull together a cohesive story that lasts longer than a couple pages, so...
Thoughts?
I know the vocabulary is very small for the time being, but I'm trying to grow it. Anyway. That's all. Just a kind of complaintish-thing really.

Posted 13 years agoThe internet at my apartment is not working, and since I have to cancel it before I leave anyway, I'm going to be taking the opportunity to just cancel it anyway, so I won't have regular access until I get back in the States, which is only in a bit more than a week now.

Last night, I went to an awesome electronica concert/music festival here in Beijing called Intro. At first it seemed like it would be lame, but man did it pick up speed. I had the best time.
If I wasn't so hungover, I would say something philosophical about growing older and having new experiences in the coming year. But... Fuckin' headache.

Posted 13 years agoSo! I'm gonna get a tattoo while here in China to help commemorate the trip, since it's been nothing but positive. Don't worry, I'm not stupid enough to wander into any old place and order one done, I'm aiming for a very touristy area in the middle of an art gallery area, ensuring that I won't get some horrible disease. Anyway! I've basically got it down to two ideas, I just have to pick which one I want. THAT'S WHERE YOU COME IN. Which seems better?
The first is a line from the Daodejing (道德经), one of the two main authoritative texts of Daoism. I'm not getting it because I ascribe to Daoism, I just like the meaning of the line itself. It's in Classical Chinese, so the translation is a bit wonky, but... Here's the line itself:
甘其食，美其服，安其居，乐其俗。
And it basically translates to "Let them think their food is delicious, let them think their clothes are beautiful, let them think their homes are comfortable, and let them think their customs are happy." It's how Laozi says the optimal state should be run. I think it makes good social commentary, and also, bastardizing it a little bit, is a way for me to remind myself to be humble, to consider my own food delicious, my own clothes beautiful, etc. Also, the punctuation would be included in the tattoo.
The other thing I'm planning is an iconic line from my favorite novel. Here's the line:
Curiouser and curiouser.
Good stuff, that book. Yeah, it's been adapted into some good and some not-so-good movies, but... I've always liked that line.

I've come to realize that a lot of my political and economical theory leanings are decidedly pointed towards some offshoot of anarchy. Problem is, I've also come to realize that I am practically an a-political and a-economic kind of person, both things just give me a headache, bluntly. This goes as far as an apathy towards both things an a resignation towards their continuance.
So does that make me an anarchist? Or does that just make me lame?
I've been thinking about compiling my views on things (because the views of a biracial, gay furry really mean a lot to the American mainstream) in case anyone ever cared to know. I want to give the way of thinking a nice, flashy name. Theoretical Anarchy sounds way too verbose, though it does capture the main core of what I'm thinking about (the actions and ideas are theoretical, not really something that can be brought about easily), or with a more negative spin, Defeatist Anarchy, since it'd be about a resignation to a system that feels unchangeable. I'm leaning more towards the latter, actually.
That all being said, I know that FA isn't exactly the most cutting edge of places to bring up political thought, but I couldn't think of another place to share it. I'm not part of many internet social circles and I'm sure as hell not going to bring up something like this on Facebook. =/
Anyway. Thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

Name: Lu Shexiang (路麝襄)
Species: Musk Deer
Fur coloring: An even light gray coloring with dark gray or black tusks.
Height and Age: Mine (~6', 23)
I haven't figured out whether he'll have any distinctive markings or features, like how good ol' Chal has an axe and earphones (Lu will probably inherit/share the earphones).
Now I need is someone to help put new Shexiang here into visual form. THAT'S WHERE YOU COME IN.
