Finally! I'm free!
Posted 12 years agoI just took my last exam of finals week today, which means I'm officially done with my sophomore year of college! I don't think I've ever been so glad to finish up a semester. x__x This one felt like it would NEVER end -- it's just been one lengthy string of assignments and exams. I'm WAY overdue on sleep (I've only been getting 4-5 hours per night, sometimes less), so I think I may spend the next few days in a coma.
Now that I finally have some free time, I'm going to be able to devote significantly more time to artwork. :D I have a couple commissions to finish up within the next week or two, and then I plan to open some commissions similar to the "iron artist" format. They'll be fully-colored, but done in a quicker and slightly less-refined fashion than my normal work. I'll probably charge about $15-20 for a finished single-character piece. The purpose of this is to get back into the swing of drawing regularly, while hopefully speeding up my drawing process at the same time. One of my biggest faults is that I take FOREVER to finish a drawing, and it's really been getting on my nerves lately. I feel terrible for taking so long to finish the commissions I currently owe... My slow drawing habits coupled with an enormous workload from school pretty much destroyed any chance of getting anything done over the last few months. :/ I'd really like to become one of those artists who can pump out a quality drawing every day or two, even when busy with school and/or work.
Anyways... it's been a while since I actually did anything on FA! :0 What have I missed?

Posted 13 years agoApologies + R.I.P.
Posted 13 years agoJust wanted to drop in and apologize for being inactive lately -- I've been wanting to finish up a few overdue drawings and sketch a couple YCH pieces, but I've been sidetracked by a bunch of different issues. School's keeping me busy enough that all I want to do during my free time is lay around like a vegetable. x__x I feel like I'm caught in a rut of being exhausted and unmotivated, and I'm not sure how to get out of it. I'm also having a root canal performed on an abscessed tooth tomorrow afternoon. D: The procedure is going to cost me about $160 out-of-pocket, which isn't bad since I have pretty good insurance, but it's still an annoying expense. I'll probably be posting a YCH auction within the next couple weeks to make up for the costs. I'm also going to force myself to work on overdue drawings, since I hate that I've made everyone wait so long already.
Worst of all, my best friend's mother unexpectedly passed away last Friday. Apparently she called a co-worker saying she felt strange (dizziness, chills, nausea) and she might call 911... and 15 minutes later, she was gone. They're still not sure what happened. I wasn't incredibly close to her, but she was a wonderful woman and it's so strange to think that she's suddenly gone. I feel terrible for my friend and his family, and the whole situation has cast a somber pall on the past week.
On top of that, I just received an email saying that one of my professors suddenly passed away.
Why is everyone around me dying? .__.

Health problems :(
Posted 13 years agoI'm beginning to feel like my body is rebelling against me. .__. It's looking like I need to visit both the dentist and the doctor in the very near future, something which we really don't have extra money to contribute toward. The dental issues are looking to be particularly costly, so I may be posting a few auctions soon to raise some money for it. Here's a summary of what I'm dealing with:
A few months back (beginning of October), I got a nasty sinus infection that pretty much knocked me out for two weeks. After I finally got some antibiotics, I noticed my throat was sore. I often get sore throats after having a cold/flu, so I dismissed this as nothing unusual. But it was a weird soreness -- it almost felt like the back of my tongue was sore, and the areas that were sore would move around to different parts of my throat/tongue. This soreness has come and gone intermittently over the past few months, and now I believe I have a mild form of thrush. -__- It's basically a yeast infection; the antibiotics from the sinus infection could have caused it. It's nothing too serious (considering I didn't even realize I had it until now), but I'll still need to visit the doctor to get medication for it.
Now for the fun part: dental issues! It's been about a year and a half since I last visited a dentist. I'm inclined to blame money issues, but honestly, it's mostly because I'm lazy and I hate going there. >__> In retrospect, I probably fucked myself over. Sometime last spring (around March, I think), one of my front teeth began feeling very sensitive. It hurt quite badly at first, but then the pain mostly went away and now it only aches occasionally when I bump it or something. Recently, the area just above that same tooth (on my gums) has began hurting whenever I touch it -- which, to me, indicates a possible root canal. Even worse, I just noticed what appears to be a blood blister in that same spot above my tooth. I'm not sure what that indicates (possibly an abscess?), but... it can't be good. ALSO, I recently chipped the tooth directly next to that one, and I believe another tooth has a cavity.
Aaand all of this leads to quite a bit of money getting thrown at the dentists/doctors. .__. I have insurance, but it won't cover everything, so the out-of-pocket expenses could get costly. I'm gonna try to schedule a dentist appointment for sometime this week and see what happens.

Happy birthday to me~ :0
Posted 13 years agoI'm officially 20 years old. o__o How the hell did that happen? It seems like just yesterday I was an awkward teenager in high school; now I'm nearly halfway to getting my college degree. Time fucking flies.
Now that 2012 is coming to a close, I figured I'd summarize my year in a nutshell:
Back in February, my miniature schnauzer suffered what we believe was a stroke and needed to be put down. I went on two separate road trips to California. We adopted another miniature schnauzer, who's one of the most loving and loyal dogs I've ever seen and has brightened my life considerably. <3 I finally got a job, only to quit a month later because I couldn't juggle Walmart's slave labor and full-time college classes simultaneously. I got a boyfriend, who treated me wonderfully up until he abruptly dumped me after only two and a half months. I struggled to maintain high grades in my classes, only to miraculously end the semester with a 4.02 GPA. I battled an enormous mechanical chicken throughout the streets of Tokyo.
...Okay, the last one might be a little exaggerated. >__> But needless to say, 2012 has been one hell of a rollercoaster. Several good experiences, as well as several bad ones that I'd prefer to bleach from my memory. In the end, I'm pretty much right where I started -- unemployed and single. But I guess the experiences in between count for something.
Bring it on, 2013.

Finals + MOAR ARTWERK
Posted 13 years agoTwo finals down, one to go! I had my first two exams yesterday, one at 7:30 AM and one at 7:10 PM. I swear, that was the longest and most stressful day of my life. .__. But both exams were surprisingly easy, so if I did as well as I think I did, I should end up with A's in both classes. If I finish the semester with an A in Calculus III, I'mma puke rainbows out of sheer happiness. :D That class was a bitch.
I have one final remaining, which is scheduled for next Tuesday, but I basically consider myself on Christmas Break at this point. Which means... artwork! I still have a couple commissions to finish from back in July/August, then I'll focus on posting a couple YCH auctions. I'm not feeling incredibly artistic at the moment (honestly, all I feel like doing is sleeping for about three decades >__>), but I've decided to push myself to be productive and finish some drawings. It would be nice if my break was longer than three weeks, but having less time just means I need to really put in the effort to make good use of it. I think I'll set a personal goal to draw at least something on every day of the break.
So if all goes well, expect to see some new stuff in my gallery before the new year arrives! ...Assuming we all survive the supposed "apocalypse" next Friday. :0

Shouldn't have gotten my hopes up...
Posted 13 years agoMy boyfriend and I just broke up. He's been working full-time while also going to school, and he basically decided that he doesn't have enough free time for us to have a proper relationship. Which I understand, but... fuck, this hurts. :( The past few months have been difficult and our relationship was pretty much the only source of happiness keeping me motivated. A few months ago, I was elated because I managed to get both a job and a boyfriend right around the same time. Now I have neither. I'm right back where I fucking started...
I do have good news though -- I've been slowly getting back into the habit of drawing. I'm working on a couple drawings from August right now, which should be submitted shortly. I have a couple major school projects coming up in a couple weeks, but afterwards (mid-December) I should have quite a bit of free time to work on artwork.

I has Weasyl! Anyone want an invite?
Posted 13 years ago>> my Weasyl account <<
Thanks to the amazing KimbaSnowpaw, I now have a Weasyl account! The site looks pretty good so far, it has lots of options that FA doesn't. I'm probably going to use it to upload more artwork than I do on FA (including WIPs, etc.), so I'd definitely recommend following me. :3
Anyways... I'm sure everyone's beyond tired of their inboxes filling up with Weasyl-related journals (I know I am), but I figured I'd take the opportunity to offer a few invites to those who would like one. Here's the catch -- because I just joined, I can't send out invites until I've been a member for two weeks. :/ BUT if you comment below, I'll reserve an invite for you and send it soon as I'm able to, which will be Monday, November 12. Invites are reserved on a first-come first-serve basis.
Invite list:
1. Nalan-TheMuse
2. Rarenth
3. badbear23
4. animalartist16
5. WolfTerrier
6. Aksel
7. IBeLucien
8. CynthiasRayquaza
9. Shadowscale
10. LoneWoof

Anyone have a spare Weasyl invite?
Posted 13 years agoIt seems like half the journals in my inbox nowadays are about Weasyl, so I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon and see what it's all about. :0 If anyone can spare an invite for me, I'll love you forever. And I'll give you an imaginary cookie! WITH SPRINKLES.
Underage Users?
Posted 13 years agoYesterday, I came across a journal from one of the artists I'm watching (I'm keeping his username anonymous) who basically described that he refuses to interact with minors on FurAffinity because he draws mostly adult artwork, and therefore anyone under 18 who views his drawings is violating the site's TOS. His journal basically stated, "If you're under 18, GTFO. I don't want to talk to you or interact with you in any way, and I don't want you on my page." He also stated that if he discovered that a certain watcher was under 18, he would add them to his "block" list.
Personally, I've always been anti-authoritarian -- I'm the type of person who believes that if someone is underage, yet they can handle the situation maturely, they should be able to view adult material whether the government (or the FA staff) says so or not. This also applies to drinking alcohol and the like -- I believe that if a 15-year old can drink alcohol responsibly, he/she should be allowed to. Age limits have never made sense to me because you can't judge everyone by one standard. Telling everyone that they're not mature enough to view porn before turning 18 is like telling everyone that they must take the same medication no matter what sickness they have. You have a cold? Take Tylenol. You have cancer? Take Tylenol. You're sexually mature and enjoy viewing porn? The age limit is 18. You hate porn and can't handle seeing it? The age limit is 18.
...Anyways, I ended up commenting on this artist's journal saying something along the lines of "Who cares what the TOS says? Just because you're not 18 doesn't mean you're not mature enough to view adult material." To which he replied that rules are there for a reason, etc., and added me to his block list. I agree that my comment was poorly-worded, so I apologized and he accepted. However, I do think that the "GTFO minors" approach is a little harsh -- I know he just wants to protect himself from any trouble that could be caused by interacting with a minor on a website that caters to porn, but.... still. It would make more sense to say "I'm uncomfortable interacting with minors. If you're under 18, don't tell me." instead of taking the approach of "I'm following the rules no matter what, GTFO minors."
What do you guys think? Do I have a valid point --that age limits are ridiculous and can't really be applied to an individual person-- or am I just totally wrong here? :/ Is it okay to disobey the rules if you believe they shouldn't apply to you, or should you always follow the rules no matter what?
P.S. -- This is in NO way meant to be an attack on the aforementioned artist; I know he has reasons for his attitude toward minors, and he's completely entitled to them. I'm more curious to know if people agree with my own views.

Oh god why. .__.
Posted 13 years agoWell, Sunday is my last day at Walmart. Despite being considered "part-time", they started increasing my hours each week until I was suddenly scheduled for 38 hours. I'm a full-time engineering student, and working 25 hours was putting me behind in my classes, so 38+ is out of the question. .__. My manager cut my hours down to about 30, but it still ended up being too many, so I put in my notice. School is more important, and I can't afford to let Walmart take advantage of me. My manager actually told me that ALL FIVE of my co-workers are also considered "part-time", but Walmart schedules them for 40 hours just because they can get away with it. Keep in mind that this means they're working full-time hours without getting full-time benefits. Fucked up, much?
Unfortunately, I've fallen really far behind in my online Geology class (I need to finish 11 labs and 9 chapter assignments before the class ends on October 12th). I have the day off, so I've been planning to do some hardcore homework/studying -- sounds like a great opportunity to catch up, right? Nope. I've been feeling slightly under the weather for a few days, and now it suddenly hit me full-force. Sore throat, throbbing sinus headache, cold chills, aching all over my body... everything. -__- It's like this cold/flu/whatever-it-is was lying dormant in my system, just waiting for me to have a day off. "Hey, he has a chance to be productive and finally get some homework done. ATTAAAACK!" So it feels like today will be one of those nasty sick-days where I spend hours in a zombie-like trance and can barely muster the strength to get out of bed. Fun, right? I may even end up calling in sick on my last day at Walmart... which I'm sure they'll hate me for, but if I feel like this on Sunday, there's no way I'll be able to spend 6 hours walking around a massive parking lot, collecting shopping carts. :/
I think the only thing keeping me sane throughout all this is my wonderful boyfriend. I dunno how I'd manage so much stress without him. It's now been a month since we started dating and I couldn't be happier. <3

How to fix a "write-protected" flash drive?
Posted 13 years agoI recently bought a 16 GB flash drive as a replacement for my old 4 GB flash drive, which is physically damaged, but still works fine. Last night, I plugged my 16 GB drive (which I've had for maybe two months) into my desktop computer so I could print a file. When I was finished, I "safely removed" it like usual, and... that's it. Shouldn't be any problems, right?
Wrong. I just plugged the flash drive into my laptop and all my files are gone. I also can't modify the flash drive in any way because it tells me it's "write-protected". I'm not even sure how to fix this, because every solution that I've found online isn't working. I tried reformatting it, I tried going into my computer's registry and changing the storage device policies... yet no matter what I do, the stupid thing is still write-protected. This basically makes me the owner of a 16 GB paperweight. :| I'm not sure why this happened, since I actually took the time to safely remove the device, but I guess I shouldn't have trusted my desktop computer to begin with. It's old and slow, it probably fucked something up when disconnecting the device.
Oh, and to make matters worse -- said desktop computer isn't working properly either. I just had to perform a system restore because it told me it couldn't run Windows.
The good news is that there were only a few files on this flash drive that I hadn't backed up onto my old 4 GB drive... so I still have most of my files. Unfortunately, I hadn't backed up the progress I made on my most recent drawing, that "midnight fap" auction pic from a couple months ago. -__- So I have to start over from the WIP sketch. I barely have any free time nowadays, I really didn't need this setback... I swear, every piece of technology I own is cursed.

Walmart Update + Boyfriend! <3
Posted 13 years agoAlright, so for anyone who read my last journal: Despite missing my second day of work, I'm still employed at Walmart. xD I called in to tell them I didn't have a ride to work, and the manager I talked to was pretty pissed, but in the end, I didn't get in any trouble. However, they also said I can't change my availability, so I'm stuck working weekends. This means I have to get a ride from my dad at least a few times a week, which annoys me... I hate asking friends/relatives to provide transportation for me, it makes me feel like a freeloader. :/
Now I'm wondering if I should even keep this job. >__> Being a cart pusher is FUCKING DIFFICULT. It's much more physically-demanding than I expected -- pretty much every part of my body is aching, and I've only worked there for 3 days. My plan was to do this for 6 months until I could transfer to an indoors position, but I dunno if I'm gonna last that long. Hard job + inconvenient hours = unhappy Fyrien.
Now for some good news: I have a boyfriend! Oddly enough, he went to my high school and I've been friends with him on Facebook for a couple years now, but I rarely talked to him until I found out that he's also a furry. Small world, isn't it? He doesn't have an FA profile, but I plan to drag him on here soon. x3

Not sure what to do... :/ Advice?
Posted 13 years agoI was just recently hired at Walmart and I started my orientation there on Monday. The store is about 7 miles from where I live and I don't have a vehicle, but the closest bus route goes takes me right to the Walmart, so I figured I'd be fine. ...Well, it turns out that the bus skips my stop on the weekend. Which I didn't know until I was already outside waiting for the bus this morning. >__> So now I'm missing my shift on the fourth day of training.
Thing is, they're already scheduling me for 35-hour weeks and I'm a full-time student as well. It's barely leaving me any time to get my assignments done for school -- I started working at Walmart less than a week ago and I'm already behind in my classes. So I'm wondering... should I just quit? :/ 35 hours is way too much, and I won't be able to take the bus on the weekends, which is when they want me to the work the most. Not to mention that I'd be working outside in the heat all day, which is horrible. I don't desperately need this job, so I can probably wait to see if there's a better job opening near where I live.
Also, if I quit, how should I go about it? Just stop showing up, or try to call a manager? I'm not technically in their employee system yet since I'm still being trained.

Two commission slots open! + Back to school D:
Posted 13 years agoI have a few more drawings to finish, then I'll be opening up for more commissions. :3 If you're interested, comment here and I'll reserve a spot for you! You don't have to pay now, and you'll be first on my list when I open commissions. I'm only reserving two spots, so act quickly!
1. open
2. open
In other news, I need to stop commissioning people... I think I'm getting addicted. >__> I've already bought three drawings of Fyrien in the past couple months, and I'm currently commissioning three more artists. And this is happening right as school is starting again, so I also have to pay for expensive textbooks and classes. NOT a good time to blow all my money on furry porn. xD The problem is that I keep seeing talented artists offering cheap commissions -- if it's between $10 and $20, I usually just go for it. I'm the type of person that sees a good deal and goes "MUST HAVE!" x3 ...Which is also why I spend too much money on eBay. *smacks myself* STOP BUYING IMPULSIVELY!
School seems like it's going to be interesting this semester. Today was my first day, and my classes are all hardcore engineering. To put it simply, my EASIEST class is Calculus III. .__. I firmly believe that the workload is going to kill me. But en route to that slow, homework-induced death, I'm gonna try to draw as often as possible. x3 For the past couple years, I've allowed school to totally kill my motivation for drawing, and therefore, my account has gone dead for months at a time. I won't let that happen this year!

I got a new job! + Sexy drawing from Jailbird! <3
Posted 13 years agoI had an interview at Walmart yesterday and they hired me as a cart pusher! :D (or as I like to call it, a cart shepherd) It's not the job I was hoping to get, but regardless, it's still a job and it'll still provide a paycheck. I applied at several other stores, including Target and Safeway, so I'm hoping they might call me in the near future. Despite being happy about getting the Walmart job, I'll probably decline it if I get offered a better position elsewhere. x3
Unfortunately, this means that I'm going to be starting a part-time job AND going back to school next week. -__- And that will probably leave me with significantly less time to work on commissions. But luckily, I only have classes on Tuesday/Thursday, so I should have a decent amount of free time during the week. Hopefully I can juggle school, work, and commissions at the same and still manage to hang onto my sanity. x3
In other news, I recently commissioned Jailbird and I'm absolutely thrilled with how it turned out! :3

RMFC + What motivates you?
Posted 13 years agoI've seen a bunch of journals from artists going to Rocky Mountain Fur Con, and now I'm a bit disappointed that I decided not to go. :/ I had the opportunity to travel to Denver with a friend, but I've already been on three different trips this year, and since school starts in a couple weeks and I'm still unemployed, I figured it'd be best to stay home and focus on preparing for college/work. Maybe next year... :/
Over the past couple months, I've drawn more than I probably have in the previous two years. x3 Even better, I've enjoyed it a lot more than I used to! I had grown so accustomed to having zero motivation and being unhappy with my artwork that it actually surprises me when I enjoy drawing. o__o Why? I think it's because I have more confidence in my abilities now. A couple years ago, I was rarely happy with my artwork -- it took ages to sketch something, I made tons of mistakes, and the result still wouldn't look like what I wanted. It was more like a chore than a hobby, and I pretty much avoided drawing just so I wouldn't be disappointed with how it turned out. Nowadays, I feel like I can draw something and it will look good. :3 Whenever I sketch something, I don't have to spend 3 hours correcting the anatomy like I used to. And I'm pretty happy with my coloring style for the first time in AGES.
So I'm just curious, what motivates you guys? Have you ever been stuck in an art slump where nothing you draw turns out the way you want? What do you do to get yourself back in an artistic mood?

Furry "social networking" sites?
Posted 13 years agoI've been reading about a few "social networking" sites intended specifically for furries, such as Furries Xtreme and MyFursona. They sound interesting, but I'm not sure if I'd want to join. Does anyone have an account on any sites like this, and if so, what are the sites like? :P Any fun features? Problems? I might join a few sites, but I'd like to make sure that they're reliable and well-constructed before signing up.
As of right now, the only furry sites that I'm a member of are FurAffinity, SoFurry and InkBunny... and both my SoFurry and InkBunny accounts are horribly neglected. >__> I pretty much operate exclusively on FA. Perhaps it'd be a good idea for me to get more involved in the furry community?

Chick-fil-A + Pokémeme
Posted 13 years agoSince FA is a website with a large proportion of LGBT users, I'm curious to hear everyone's opinions about the Chick-fil-A "homophobia" contoversy. I've observed very mixed reactions so far -- it seems like everyone either wants to boycott the restaurant for their bigotry or eat there for exercising free speech.
Personally, although Dan Cathy (the owner of Chick-fil-A) has made some pretty ridiculous statements, I don't think that what he says or believes is the problem. It's the way he implements it. Cathy has publicly stated that, "As an organization we can operate on biblical principles. So that is what we claim to be. [We are] based on biblical principles, asking God and pleading with God to give us wisdom on decisions we make about people and the programs and partnerships we have." That right there is what's wrong with this whole situation -- business and religion shouldn't mix. If Dan Cathy wants to believe that homosexuality is wrong, then by all means, he can. That's his right, and I may not agree with it, but I'm certainly not going to reprimand him for it. But when he begins donating company profits to "marriage equality" groups, THAT'S where we should draw the line. Cathy has a responsibility as the owner of a multi-billion company to remain impartial in situations concerning equality and civil rights; after all, it doesn't matter whether a customer is gay or straight if they want to buy your chicken sandwiches. Yet company money is being used to discriminate against homosexuality in the name of Christianity. -__- What's really sad is that the entirety of Chick-fil-A is getting slammed because of this controversy, yet it's really only a few of the corporate leaders that are responsible. I'm willing to bet that many of the company's employees are even supporters of homosexuality.
It's really a shame that we can't eat fast food nowadays without bullshit controversy like this getting crammed down our throats. I think I'll avoid Chick-fil-A in the future, not because of their beliefs, but because I don't want my money being donated to an anti-homosexuality group. Anyone else agree with me? :0

I hath returned!
Posted 13 years agoBack from San Francisco, and thoroughly mourning the fact that I live in the dusty wasteland we call Arizona. D: Upon driving into the Phoenix area on our way home, we were immediately greeted by a GIANT FUCKING WALL OF DUST. Whereas San Francisco was cool, overcast, and below 70 degrees the entire time we were there. To all of my watchers who live in California -- can I trade lives with you? xD
Now that I'm home, I should have some spare time to work on commissions. I didn't get many chances to draw during the trip since we were pretty busy, so the only progress I made was a few adjustments to one sketch. I should hopefully have something finished and ready to post later this week. :3

The Dark Knight Rises was fucking beautiful. <3
Posted 13 years agoNo spoilers here. Just awestruck love for an incredible movie. Go see it, you will NOT be disappointed.
Also, it's a shame that some demented fucker had to go shoot up a premiere in Colorado. This is why we can't have nice things. D:

ROAD TRIP! ...Possible art delay?
Posted 13 years agoThere's a good chance I'll be going on a week-long trip to San Francisco next week with my dad, meaning that my ability to draw and/or access the internet will probably be limited. :/ Of course I'll be bringing my laptop, but there's no guarantee I'll be able to draw anything -- my dad will be nearby the entire time and I doubt he would respond positively to the gay furry smut I draw (he still doesn't know I'm gay). D: I may still have internet access if the hotels we stay at offer it.
Since I'm going to the premiere of The Dark Knight Rises tonight (at 4:00 AM, actually xD), I doubt I'll have a chance to draw tonight. And my dad wants to leave on Saturday, which means that tomorrow is going to be a hardcore doodling day. I won't rest until I've made considerable progress on at least one drawing! :0
I also planned on updating my SoFurry and InkBunny accounts by posting a fuckton of old artwork, but I dunno if I'll have time for that. :/ So much to do, so little time...
