It's been a rough weekend...
Posted 13 years agoHey everyone. Just dropping in to let you all know that I'm still alive and well.
But it's just been a very rough weekend for me...the news about the shooting really got me.
I'm no going to lie. I cried. I legitimately cried when I heard about the shooting.
I know they're not kids that I was teaching, but they were still defenseless 6-8 year olds.
They were children...children! Of all of the news that I've been hearing this past year...this has to be the worst of them all, next to what happened to Jeff's cousin.
Most of you know that I worked with K-5 students with sever learning disabilities. I worked more often with the 6 year old students than any else.
And this news really broke my heart. Those are kids who will never see their 7th or 8th birthdays.
Kids who will never have their dreams come true.
Kids who will never grow up to be what they've always wanted to be.
Kids who will never experience the full joys life has to offer.
It's been a rough weekend since hearing the news.
I'm sorry, but I think I'll be away for a little while, at least until after the holidays.Hiatus heads up.
Posted 13 years agoHey everyone! Just wanted to give you all a heads up that I'll be a bit inactive for the coming weeks.
Lots of the teachers are giving tests before the holidays, and I've got to help quite a number of students to prepare.
Most of the students could care less, but those students who do care and that I have not been working with are coming to me to ask for help.
So, I'll be busy focusing on getting these bright kids ready to get A's on their tests for the next few weeks before the holidays.
So, I'll be on and off occasionally to answer notes from now til vacation, but that's about it.

Posted 13 years agoHey everyone! Sorry for the inactivity lately.
Work has kept me very busy, what with reviewing projects and grading tests and all that.
Most of my time the last week has been spent reviewing projects.
Not too many good grade's, from what I've already seen.
Though, at least one student I've been counseling is making strides to raising her grades.
When I first met her three weeks ago, she hadn't a single care about her grades.
But I was able to relate to her on so many levels, and I believe I've steered her on the right path.
I feel like I've finally accomplished something since I started working here in Jersey.
But anyways, just wanted to let you all know how I'm faring.
How's everyone else doing? Did you all get your turkey's yet?

Posted 13 years agoHey everyone. It's me Dani. I still don't have power yet in my area, but the local Barnes & Nobles does.
So I'm charging my phone here right now. There's cell service and 3G here at least.
Anyways, for those of you worried about me, I'm quite alright.
Granted, a bit chilly both outside and in my aunt and uncles house, but I'm still alive and well.
On another note, Jeff posted up a journal a couple days ago, telling you guys that I most likely will be leaving FA.
That is what I did tell him. But after a long hard thought about it...
I realized that I overreacted after that certain incident.
It was mostly due to my stress levels being through the roof and my frustration with the students of the middle school I now work at.
I'm personally telling you guys right now, that I won't be leaving FA. I'll be back as soon as power is restored in my aunt and uncles area.

Posted 13 years agoWhat's up peeps? It's me, Jeff. So, as most of you may know, Sandy blew through New Jersey.
I've been worried sick about her since I heard about how bad Jersey got hit.
She only just managed to find a spot with cell service yesterday and called me in the morning.
There's still no power where she is, unfortunately. She's been with her aunt and uncle huddling by their fireplace for the whole week.
The school she works at has been closed for that long too.
But thankfully, nothing has happened to her aunt and uncles house. They only lost one tree in the backyard, but that's about it.
And from what she managed to tell me yesterday, a lot of trees fell in her area.
And of all of them that fell, only two houses got hit. Two houses!
The rest are near misses. That's insane! For all the trees to miss the houses, that's like a lucky freak chance.
They either all misses the houses, or fell away from the houses. Crazy.
Anyway, yeah. Dani still doesn't have power or internet...or cell service at that.
So, she probably won't be on for a little while longer.
Actually, she told me that she'll only be coming on once the power is restored to tell you guys she probably will be leaving FA all together.
She says she's dealing with too much stress from her new job.
She can't worry about coming online with all the stress she's putting up with.
She doesn't want to upset you guys, but it's probably for the better.
So, yeah. I'll probably be making a return here, since I caught up on all my work hours from being MIA for that long while.
Just thought I'd update you guys on Dani's current situation.Best way to relieve stress?

Posted 13 years agoVery chaotic...
I come into work today first thing in the morning, and I'm immediately confronted by the principal.
I had a change of position AND SCHOOL AGAIN! Instead of teaching second and third graders, I'm teaching sixth graders at the middle school!
Way over my skill sets, as I've only been working with K-5 students for the last 4 or 5 years.
I had absolutely no heads up about this. Completely messed up my schedule for the rest of the day.
First impressions about the school system here isn't looking too good, if you ask me.
Very disorganized.
But now we get to the students. I hate criticizing students, but my lord these kids deserve some criticism.
They have absolutely no respect towards their teachers, perhaps not even towards their own parents.
I had to tell at least 20 students three separate times to put their cell phones away during class.
I had to take away at least several phones ON MY FIRST DAY AT WORK!!!
Granted, a few of the students are quite respectable towards their teachers, these kids I like.
But many of the students are carefree and don't maintain any level of desire to be the one to answer the question correctly.
My lord. It's very difficult for someone to irritate me, much less get under my skin.
But these students just might turn me into one of those teachers no one likes if something isn't done about their attitudes towards the very people that are gifting them with the knowledge they need in order to be successful in life.
This is just ridiculous. Is this really where my career is going to take me?
Is this really what these people asked me to walk into by having me transferred with no reason given(they refuse to tell me why they had me transferred)?
Good lord, this new job just is not what I had expected.
The only good things about moving to Jersey is that I get to spend some time with my aunt and uncle...and drive my cousins lovely 2012 Scion tC(yes, he has allowed me to use it while I am here).
So...first impressions about the education system here in Jersey are very poor.
Disorganized school system with no warning given to the change of school(again) and position(I am now a full time teachers assistant), and students who can't seem to respect their elders enough.
Is this really the Jersey I left behind after a nice vacation here 10 years ago?
Is this really how far the education system here has fallen?
I swear...when the day comes that I grow very distressed by my job...I'm quitting and going back to my wonderful home of Boston.

Posted 13 years agoMy students aren't taking the news of my last day at the school being tomorrow very well.
It's not fun making kids sad, especially kids who have autism and other LD's.
I still don't understand why I'm being transferred to a public school down in New Jersey.
It's not even a special Ed school, so why do they need my skill sets if they don't have as many students with LD's as the school I've Ben working at for he last 5 years now.
I'm very frustrated with this situation. And Jeff is sad too about me leaving him here in Boston. :CI am sad... :C
Posted 13 years agoMy manager called me into his office today during lunch period while I was keeping watch over the kids.
...gave me the news I'd been hoping for a month he wouldn't give me.
Friday is my last day working for the school before. I'm going to have to transfer to another school down in New Jersey.
I've already started packing things I would need.
I really hoped that the school down in Jersey wasn't as interested in my skills as my manager said they were...turns out he was telling the truth.
Now I have to leave my beautiful home city of Boston, and be off to New Jersey by Saturday.
Which means that I'm leaving Jeff...and all of my students.
I've been sad for the whole day, very sad. :C Only just mustered enough energy to type this journal to update you guys on everything.
Sigh, this is the biggest life-changing news I've gotten since I woke up from my coma almost a year ago.
I'm going to miss my students. I don't know how I'm going to explain this to them that I won't be working at the school anymore.
I know for a fact that this news will make just about all of my students sad...and it's tough knowing that they'll be sad when I leave
So...yeah. Looks like I'm going to be living in Jersey starting this Saturday.
On the bright side of things, I at least won't have to room with my smelly younger cousin in his cramped little apartment in NYC.
If I were to be living in his apartment while I search for someplace cheap to live, I would have to drive an hour to the new school.
His parents have said that I can stay with them in their house until I find a place of my own to live.
Good thing about that is that their house is only about half an hour away from the school.
Btw, the school I'll be working at won't be a private special ed. school. It'll be a public school, K-5.
I guess the main reason they had my transfer made official is because of my skill sets.
Why they looked all the way here in Boston for a teacher's assistant with my skill sets is beyond me. Makes no sense to me.
Ugh...this is getting frustrating...I need some time to myself...

Posted 13 years agoSo, I just got out of a meeting with my manager.
Nice little conversation between two professionals, said that I did very well working two positions at the same time.
Also said that there was no one else he would trusts more to take over his job if something were to ever happen again.
And then he dropped the news on me.
It's not "officially" determined whether this will actually happen...but I might be transferred to another private Special Ed school down in New Jersey.
Don't get me wrong, Jersey is a cool place with lots of stuff to do.
But to be honest...I really don't want to have to move to New Jersey.
Why? Because moving is expensive, gas is expensive...and I don't want to have to say goodbye to my students.
And I certainly don't want to have to move away from Jeff.
I know from my friend that having a boyfriend in another state is not fun at all.
But hopefully this won't go through. I mean, the school year just started, and I'm already being told I might have to move to New Jersey to work.
Not the news I wanted to hear...ever. I love it here in Boston, it's my home.
And I certainly don't want to have to room with my cousin while I look for someplace to live. :(
I've got another month before I learn if I'm staying or leaving. But, crossing my fingers that this won't happen!

Posted 13 years agoHey everyone! Just jumping on here before class starts to tell you guys that my work schedule has returned to normal!
My managers aunt paid his bail, so he got back to work yesterday, and I stopped being my own manager. Yay!
Though, after there was an investigation into his arrest when he and his family disputed the "resisting arrest" and "assault on a police officer" charges, those two charges were dropped thanks to a review of the cops dash cam.
Anyways, enough about my work life, more about me!
So, last week I had one of the most vivid dreams I've had in years. I won't say too much about it, except for it being a jumbled mess of confusion at first.
But as the dream went on, I started to see something that I can only describe as some of the perfect romance story scenes I've seen.
So, I'm currently turning that dream into a romance story!
Now, I'm not much of a creative writer, so forgive me if it seems a bit amateurish and riddled with mistakes.
But I have the basic plot idea stuck in my head, and I'm working to get it all down in words for you guys to read!
Now, although my work schedule has returned to normal, I'm still bogged down with a lot of work and things.
Lots of assignments and quizzes to grade, and a lot more papers and forms to complete.
So, please be patient with me! I won't be getting this story out to you guys anytime soon, but hopefully within the next couple of weeks.

Posted 13 years agoHey everyone. I'm sorry about my long absence from FA. I just have been swamped by a boat-load of things in the last two months.
The school year has started already, so there is a lot of work for me to do regarding grading homework for the fifth graders, grading classwork, organizing papers and filling out a lot of paperwork. So, I've been a very busy woman the last month or so, especially before the school year started.
But that's not all that's been happening that's taken up much of my time. Last month I got bit by deer tick, so I had to be confined to my bed for about two weeks before classes started, as well as having Jeff stopping by to check up on me and bring me my medication.
The worst has passed already, but I'm still taking the meds, which are expensive as hell.
But there's still a lot more to worry about than that. Last week my manager got arrested for drunk driving, hit and run, resisting arrest and assault on a police officer. I find the 'hit and run' and 'assault on a police officer' to be a bit untruthful, as my manager is not a violent or reckless person. So...I've been assigned as temporary manager for the time he is away.
Life at the moment is a bit hectic at the moment, so I apologize in advance for any longer absence. I just wish things will get better soon, cause I'm not used to this much stress.

Posted 13 years agoHey everyone! So, I haven't done an update journal in a while.
I figured I'd do one today because...well, Jeff and I got into an argument today.
Lately the passed several weeks Jeff has been coming back to his apartment drunk.
And I understand why he's been doing all this drinking lately.
He's still having a hard time getting over what happened over in Australia with his cousin.
It's a rather difficult thing for him to get over, not ever going to see his little cousin ever again.
And if you're wondering what our argument was about today...I'd rather not say.
But, besides all that, life for me has been much the same the passed couple months.
Next week I finish teaching summer classes for my students.
Sad that I've only got one more week left to be with them in the classroom.
But hey! The school year is fast approaching, so I'll be seeing them again in no time. :)
Anyways, that's about it for my update. I hope everyone else has been having a good summer! :)
