New lair!
Posted 11 years agoDragon is moving into a new lair soon. A little smaller than the old, and half a continent away. Nicer neighborhood though, hopefully the gryphons won't be so noisy here!

Deep Wars
Posted 12 years agoNew miniature game from Antimatter Games, who are a small kickstarter funded business.
It's their second game it seems, but their first (Shadowsea) seems to be somewhat sidelined. I'm not surprised; Shadowsea has some interesting looking factions, but so do a lot of other games. The one thing it had that was different was a ruleset for underwater fighting as part of a skirmish.
Deep Wars shifts the focus entirely to the underwater stuff, in a few ways. It's got a few mechanics to support the water-feeling. For one, models can get lost if they're not able to see light sources to navigate by. They can also swim vertically (and there's 'swim bases' that you clip to the bottom of a model's base to elevate them).
They've got the vast bulk of the core model range already for sale, which is interesting because Shadowsea has less than half each faction's model range released.
It also has a lot more emphasis than most games I've seen on terrain interaction. You're supposed to populate the game field with the normal terrain - hills, kelp-forests, that sort of thing. But you also have native wildlife and ancient abandoned technology that models can interact with (native wildlife follows a rule-based set of behaviors, and sea shaman can take control of them, while scientists can reactivate and salvage ancient weapons). Plus there's lots of rules based around breaching walls, dragging terrain to form new walls, etc. I think the focus on the underwater and terrain interaction are the highlights of the game rules. The two downsides I see are loose writing that doesn't always clearly explain rules, and an obtuse number of duplicate special rules (Sure, I understand a fish monster and an underwater robot that have the same capability to see in the dark would go about it in two different ways, but two identical rules with different names is a bad idea). Warmachine used to be bad about this, for instance, then realized you don't need a dozen different rules that boil down to "This weapon sets things on Fire" just because it is thematically different kinds of fire.
Plot-wise, all four factions are rushing to salvage technology left by an extinct undersea race to help win the surface war Shadowsea represents. I of course picked the Scaly Horde, an alliance of the Draconid Legion (lizardmen) and the Sunless Kingdom (insect-men and rock/crystal life forms). The lizardmen are air breathers and don't have the tech to create dive suits, obviously a disadvantage in underwater combat (they can drown), but they're really tough against energy/heat weapons, which make up the bulk of ranged attacks and magic. They also have the easiest time controlling neutral wildlife.
Model-wise, their artists seem to be no amateurs, but their molding processes need work. There's a lot of flash on them. They're a mix of pewter and resin models. I'd say the biggest artistic 'mistake' I see is detail-clutter. Basically, non-regular details clustered too tightly together often get blurred together by a molding process if they're too small. Like them or hate them, there's a reason why details are exaggeratedly-large on Warhammer models, and not tightly clustered. Warmachine/Hordes does the same.

Posted 12 years agoCracked two of my toes, jeeeze this hurts. Gonna make walking rough to say the least, we'll see how tomorrow goes if I need to get a doctor to properly immobilize them. Hopefully it's just a light fracture and won't keep hurting long.

Really guys? Really? Planetside is NOT that srs of busines
Posted 13 years agoOkay, so yeah, I'm newb to the game, and I don't understand all the fine points of balance yet and what's stronger than what and so on.
But I have had, so far, -six- close friends give me an extremely hard time because I like VS.
I don't know crap about the game in honesty. I play it casually and I play it for fun. I like energy weapons and purple is my favorite color, is it any surprise?
This got old the second time it happened, let alone the sixth. I'm on a server where they're even the minority faction, but if I show up on Steam as playing Planetside 2, I invariably get... "Hey, what faction server are you on?" and I cringe because if I answer I'm guaranteed to get the person yelling and blowing up at me followed by an angry cold shoulder and silence. And people wonder why I always try to use invisible mode on Steam while I can =P
Because I make my armor purple in a video game. I also play TR on another server, but no, MUST HATE THE PURPLE.
Seriously? I'm trying not to let it kill the game for me. Trying.

Posted 13 years agoTraveled near 700 miles in a day and my car broke down not 20 minutes from my destination. Figures.
Couldn't get any help, apparently some big event had every tow and taxi on the other side of town handling drunks. Left car (with far too much stuff in it, since I was moving), hiked to a hotel some ways away. Got myself and my phone and will see what I can do about the rest of my life tomorrow.
Just really tired now, rrr.

Posted 14 years agoI'll probably be hard to contact for a bit here (depends where I end up staying on this move for 2-3 months). I'll have my phone with me, so will always have email access at galisslipscale(at)gmail.com, but I may not be able to check FA notes a whole lot for a while. So if you need to contact me, that's a better choice until I figure out what's going on ;)
SOTS2
Posted 14 years agoRather buggy dissapointment there. Though patches are doing wonders for the stability of the game, it's still really far from finished - the vast majority of techs and options do nothing, for instance. It's a shame too, SOTS1 was one of the better recent 4x games, and has some of the more imaginative racial design out there, along with races being functionally different (as opposed to +x% to spearchuckers and -5% to stone) in ship design and propulsion method. And just.... generally "not just a human with forehead ridges" alienness. Hopefully they'll get this game working properly soon enough. It'd also be nice if the AI's played more like the racial stories imply they should ;)

Money Talks
Posted 14 years agoAnd in Deus Ex it says "Buy more praxis kits"
Not surprising in the slightest...
Posted 14 years agoI'm looking for oooone more comission (I spent my allowance this month already, but, it's too tempting!) This is a cleavage-oriented idea, involving big scaly breasts getting oiled up, massaged, and otherwise worshipped upon. Definitely looking to bring out the oily-slick-glossy look I think, any ideas on who might be good to approach?
Oww
Posted 14 years agoThe career of professional torturer never really disappeared. They just got themselves rebranded as "personal trainers" and got their victims to pay them instead of the kings!

Grrr internets!
Posted 14 years agoMy ISP here suuuuuucks but they have a no-competition contract with the city. Bah.
So since peple seem to enjoy these at times, and I'm curious what reaction I'd get, are there any questions someone might want to ask any of my characters? ;)

Post-birthday
Posted 14 years agoThings are back to normal of course. Dunno what's up with the planetary alignment or whatever on my birthday, heh.
Not much to report today there! Since I didn't get anything for my birthday I ended up spending a bit more than I intended shopping, but it feels pretty good to be making enough money these days that over-spending just means "okay, gotta be frugal for a day or two" rather than "a month or two".

I hate the 25th of May
Posted 14 years agoIt's like the universe's big sign to rain down shit on me every year. Everything takes longer, has more problems, costs me more money. Hell if I go to bed now I -might- get 3 hours sleep, and I was exhausted today from not getting enough sleep last night thanks to the neighbors upstairs having a fight at 2 am. I wanted some SLEEP it's really all I wanted but I got stuck trying to fix stuff up late and I never did fix it, not to mention car issues, finance issues, credit issues, urrrgh.
I hate the 25th of May.

not dead! and looking for artist
Posted 14 years agoPosting this via cell phone so pardon any difficulties!
Still alive and kicking. Need a new place to live since I graduate soon, not out of here quite yet! Don't worry, financially im fine, but I have to get the time to actually look for an apartment soon!
Im also looking for an artist for a color picture, adult. The trick is, one of the characters is very fire based and the other is a nonanthro dragon. So lighting and fire and heat distortion are gonna be relatively prominent and I don't know anyone who does a lot of fire effects. Also expression on a dragon, to show heat exhaustion and such! Tricky subject.
