Random Chinese student contact on Skype, interesting...
Posted 15 years agoI dunno how many of you have ever gotten into a situation where a Chinese English-major student contacts you randomly on Skype one day from China, and is all "Hey, add me as a contact!", but it happened to me. O:
Now I don't know if it's a scam or not, because he seems very legit. This has happened to me twice before, and I've ended up blocking them or saying I can't help, but he claims to only wish to speak to a native English speaker...
"What the hell", I said to myself.
This could be interesting. His name is >Bear<, so I'll give him props even if he isn't a furry (I've already told him I'm gay, lol). >> Let's see where this all goes, and how it develops. Maybe we can all start talking to him (yes, a furry raid on China, what a grand idea). ;;;>>

New Year's Scheduel: Cons, fursuits, and lenses OH MY!

I've got a few cons planned, as well as some other activity, so I'll be off and on sporadically through this year. There may even be a chance to meet up with some of you out there. Let me know! :D

Ara's New Year's Hangover Solution - IRISH CODDLE! :9
Posted 15 years agoOkay FA, I'm pretty sure half of you are going to be drunk off your asses tonight, so here's something that I love to make at home all the time, that's a cheap, tasty pub grub you'll all like. I've knocked people off their rockers with this, so enjoy as you celebrate the advent of the new decade!
coddle:
2 large yellow onions, sliced to petals
1 lb. Stewing meat, cut to bite-sized pieces
6 bratwurst, sliced to bite-sized pieces
4 large potatoes / 7 red potatoes, cut into 1/2" cubes (skin on)
3 qt. water
2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. black pepper
1 Tbsp. kosher salt
1 Tbsp. seasoned salt
3 bay leaves
roux:
5 oz. flour
5 oz. cooking oil / butter
Step 1: cut up your onions and sautee them in a cast iron pot over medium high heat, add salt and stir together until onions are lightly caramelized. Remove from pan.
Step 2: season your stewing beef with the seasoned salt (a fine steak-seasoning rub would be preferable if you have it), and throw it in the pot you just took your onions out of. Sear the meat for 30 seconds, still on med-high heat, stir, and make sure it's all browned and yummyful.
Step 3: toss your bratwurst in, toss your onions back in, and stir it all together. Put the lid on for 5 minutes, kick it back to medium heat. Then add your 3 qts. of water and Worcestershire sauce. Leave to cook on medium-low heat for 2-4 hours.
Step 4A: (caution, this step can be dangerous to novices, skip to step 4b if you can't pay careful attention): heat your oil in a medium pan on medium-high, until a single drop of water will sizzle and boil away quickly, and toss the flour in all at once, stirring quickly to combine the oil and flour. DO NOT STOP STIRRING, but be careful, and just be sure to get it all off the sides and bottom so it doesn't burn. Cook the roux until it is just lightly browned and smells toasty (it should be a light blond). Turn off the heat, but keep stirring until the mixture stops sizzling and bubbling. Set aside, THIS IS VERY VERY HOT!!!
Step 4B: Alternatively, if you are afraid of attempting to make a roux, omit the flour and oil altogether, and add a cup of barley. (if you're following this step, omit step 6 completely)
Step 5: after playing some video games or watching TV, or fapping to pr0nz (you remembered to cut your potatoes up, right?), add your potatoes into the coddle pot, and let cook on medium-low heat for 20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
Step 6: In a separate, heat-resistant bowl, place the roux, and add 1/4 cup of the liquid from the coddle pot at a time, stirring the roux until it all combines and becomes smooth (occasionally, the roux will appear to become much drier after adding the liquid, this is okay, just keep adding a little liquid at a time). As soon as the roux mixture seems to be about the consistency of cream soup, add it to the pot of coddle, and mix together well.
Step 7: In the event that you didn't blow up the kitchen, enjoy! This is a great hangover food for when you've partied all night. Shit gets better the next day too, so save some. You'll be glad you did.
Don't forget to howl at the blue moon! ;D

I'm going to be operating solely from my iPhone for the next week at least, until I get back down to my apartment in Louisville. I'll be up at home in Bedford, IN for the holidays. Don't think I'll be going anywhere. Tegan just got a new tank and fresh bedding, so he's sleeping like a log.

Report from MFF (Photo journal incoming!)

MFF this year was the best 4 days of this decade for me in the areas of getting to meet a lot of new friends, getting Tegan out and into the world to let people meet him, and meeting some really great artists, who are all really really great people to talk to and hang out with.
As some of you know, I roomed with
Semjay and 
mr-taren, who are probably some of the nicest people ever for letting me room with them, and Taren even let me try on his fursuit head (I've become addicted, my next goal now is to get a fursuit from the guys who made Taren's suit). The two are also the hosts of 'Whose Lion is it Anyway', a 2 hour comedy improv, where the audience is the acting cast. Lots of fun, lots of lulz.
You may also know them from Bad-Dragon; I had the pleasure of helping advertise and distribute little treat bags from the company, in celebration of MFF's 10th anniversary! Only 100 made too, so I'm happy I could have acquired one. ~.=.^

I will be posting a plethora of pictures from this year's convention. I saw a lot of familiar faces, and some new ones I've been wanting to meet for a while (looking at you,

Posted 16 years agoOkay, so Midwest Furfest is still like a month away, but in the case that I don't have enough money to get a hotel room of my own, I'd like to go ahead and ask if anyone out there is going, and wouldn't mind letting this dragon split the cost of a room with them.
Due to some recent positive events, I should now be able to acquire my Canon EOS 7D, and I have also acquired my new Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. Just need the battery grip, and I'm set to put together a great photojournal for this 10th anniversary con.

MFF Question for anyone attending. This is important.
Posted 16 years agoDue to sudden, unforeseen hyperfail in the Paypal department which ended up losing me $500, and threatening any chance I'll have of making rent possible without sacrifice, I am coming to you all once again, not for money though, as I prefer not to ask for it, but rather a question concerning MFF.
Does anyone want/need a roommate? Plans to go with Cirrus aren't looking great, and in the end, I believe I'll either have to find a roach motel, room with someone, or not go at all in the worst case scenario.
Just for the record, I want to make a shoutout to InuAkiko for this, since I know you're going for sure.

Tegan's Troublled Tail :(
Posted 16 years agoNot a great start to the week, as a rather large chunk of Tegan's tail has broken off near a spot that had been broken when he was much younger. The good thing is (and I'm relieved to find out), that it snapped off at a fracture point where there is only fat, skin, and pin-bones.

In other, less important events. Things are looking far brighter this month, than they were right there at the end of last month. Skool is in full swing, but I only have about 20 weeks left before graduation (doesn't sound like much, now that I think about it) :3
I don't think it's too late to start announcing this, but I plan on going to MFF in November. Will anyone else here be attending? Come on now, don't leave me in the cold without someone fuzzy/scaley to huggle up on! If you're really good, I'll take a picture of you with my soon-to-be Canon EOS 7D. ;3

I barely squeaked by, but I'm safe now. This month is looking a lot brighter thanks to that little boost. I don't know what I can do to return the favor, but I'll think of something. Posted 16 years agoAlright, I feel really bad having to post this journal, because I feel like I'm going to be branded with the "begging furry" stereotype now, but at this point, I don't care anymore.
I am in very deep financial trouble, and somehow $180 wen missing from my bank yesterday for reasons unknown. I have my apartment rent coming up at the en of the month, as well as overdue utilities, which are escalating into the +$100 range now, and I'm getting scared. I'm a month away from any help, and I am afraid of getting shut off, or kicked out.
If anyone out there can help me in any way, I am not joking around, I need help badly. I'm sorry to everyone for asking this.

How devastating... VERY IMPORTANT!!!
Posted 16 years ago3 years and $15000 later, I am starting to question weather or not Zeezy is really worth trying to hold onto.
I have a confession, even though I'm sure at least most of you I've talked to know, that Zeezy never considered me a loved one, despite the effort and initiative and money I've poured into this relationship, he just doesn't seem to care at all, and before anyone goes off spouting "I told you so", please don't. I know.
I don't know if I am ready tone back on the market yet, or ever at that. I want so much for Zeezy and I to be a couple, but he is unwilling to try to warm up to me or anyone, and I believe that is his own defect and choice. I've tried to be the best boyfriend I can be, and advance his eventual photo career into the stratosphere, but there is no thanks, and no guilt of taking the money and running. I question how good of a friend he really wants to be, and wonder if this characteristic might span into the future.
In closing, I apologize for my hiatus and absence. I have been lackin Internet at my apartment going on 3 weeks now, and dealing with a tremendous amount of shit here and there. Forgive me.
Any comments are welcome at this point, but I'm taking this journal down at some point in the very near future, so PM me any additional thoughts. I'll be sitting here wondering how to come up with $15000 by the end of the year.
