Blind
Posted 11 years agoYeah, so, as some of you know I've been in quite the emotional rut lately. Figures that I would go to a concert to raise my spirits a bit, wind up pile drived by a 400 pound wall of flesh, take a knee to the face, and have my glasses broken. I can't read text. I can't type properly. I can't work... Hell, even this journal had to be painstakingly written using dictator. I'm kind of at a loss of words for how terrible this situation is...
*Update*
Add to this that I have a hanging credit card debt and it looks like I'm being fucked over for half a thousand dollars in pay, and you get what's called a circle of death. Fuck life.

Alright, guys. As some of you may already now, I am now in posession of a brand new Acer Aspire laptop which I've tailored especially to fit my writing needs... except it can only run windows 8 *Grroooaann*. Joking aside, though, this is something I've wanted for a long time and I'm super excited to finally be able to put to good use.
I'm also finally coming out of one of my dormant states, which as you guys know happen occasionally, and I'm starting to get back into the swing of writing... unfortunately it's right in time for my next hiatus, which will last for the remainder of the month. I do have some uploading to do, which I've neglected thus far, but unfortunately I probably won't be doing any new writing. Maybe, maybe not, we'll see.
Regardless, November is going to be a fantastic month for my writing (I hope xD). My National Novel Writing Month entry for this year will be, as some of you already know, The Vacant Years! I'm aiming for 100,000 words this year, much of which will be in that story, as well as clearing the rest of my currently paid commissions. November will be spent in intensive writing (I won't be taking a hiatus that month), then I'll be working on some assorted smaller stories during the month of December. I want to finish all I can, because, come the end of the year, I'll be completely revising how I do commissions.
Starting at 12:00 am, January 1st 2015, my prices will be officially raised from 7$/1,000 words, which they have been since I practically started taking commissions, to 10$/1,000 words, which I think more fairly expresses the amount of time and effort that goes into making the stories that I write. If that sounds like too much for you to pay, don't worry: I'll be offering plenty of discounts, especially for people who want to commission longer works (An official guide will be released sometime in December.)
With regards to Two Weeks 2.0 and Patreon stuff, I'm currently working on a small mountain of prep work, summaries, character sheets, not to mention an official guide to the universe in case anyone wants to write fanfiction xP (yeah, right, like that would ever happen.) all of which will be published as extras with the final version of Two Weeks.

Ugh, yes, as some of you know, I'm really really really under the weather right now. I didn't make it its own journal because I didn't think anything would come of it, but last Wednesday I was nailed in the head with a ceramic tile (I was wearing a hard-hat, so it hurt but I'm still alive), and have since been diagnosed with a concussion. Yeah, not fun at all. Don't worry, all you silly babies, I'm in a lot of pain and discomfort but I've been to two doctors and they've both assured me that the symptoms (Dizziness, nausea, headaches, lack of focus, etc,) I'm having are totally normal and should be gone within a week. But that basically means I'll be OOC regarding writing until my next two week work hiatus, which will start this Sunday. I still fully intend to get this month's Patreon writing out (of course), but don't expect any other writing out of me until I get back. Secondarily, the Two Weeks writing I'll be doing will be more along the lines of universe exposition, plot outlines, character sketches, etc. I'm going to make sure that, once I do get to writing this thing, it's as good as it can be

Goddamn it I'm tired! And apparently I've made myself indispensable to this company, so they want me working for a few more days @_@ I've even been offered a full time position at a very generous wage (A square 25% more than I make writing commissions at the VERY BEST of times, and those times are quite rare). Sure, this job is tiring as all fuck, but the money is by far worth it. To put it into perspective, I've made more during this past two weeks roofing than I have writing in the past five months. So I'm hit by a quandary: What the heck do I do with all the novels people are commissioning me? (Seriously, I've got SIX full length Caretaker universe novels people have commissioned me, totaling well over 1,000,000 words.) Not to mention recent developments have shown me just how low my prices really are (
charges a full 30% more than me, and he still got plenty of interest.) Not to mention that, at my rate, it would take months to fully clear my queue... and with this new development of a potential full time job that leaves me too tired to write.... *EXPLODES*
But yeah, guys... I'll put tihs out to the community. What do think I should do? The way I see it, here's my options:
1) Take the full time job and work on commissions during the weekends until I'm done everything I have, then close for the foreseeable future. (Very unlikely. I'd burn out in a month.)
2) Take a week-on, week-off part-time job with the company, and write on my off weeks. (Feasible.)
3) Raise my prices to what seems to be the industry standard of 10$/1,000 words, and roof a week or two per month. (Seems the most likely scenario right now.)
So, yeah. Tell me what you guys think.

Well, the good news is that this is a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. The bad news is that it's still pretty goddamn hard. I've been here since last Friday, and I've clocked a full workday literally every day since, most of them 10-14 hours. I'm more than likely going to be here until next Tuesday at least, which means five more long workdays for this birdy... and if any of you have ever done roofing, you'll know that this is some hard goddamn work, even though I'm basically just a tool-bitch, driving around with my dad to make sure all of the ten construction sites we're handling are all in order, have the tools and materials that they need, and aren't leaving beer bottles and smoldering cigarettes in the customers attic, etc. Anyway, the good news is that this job pays extremely well, and I have to do comparatively little actual labor. The bad news is that I'm going to be so freaking exhausted by the time I get back home that I'll probably need a few days to recover... xD Anyway, I'll keep you guys informed, but suffice to say right now that I'm doing pretty well.

For those of you that don't know, I'm going to be working with my dad for the next week, and more or less absent from the furry scene. I'll still answer notes, upload stuff, but I won't likely be on skype or doing any writing. You see, my dad's a roofer, and, even though it pays well, it's extremely hard work, and I'll more than likely be too exhausted to talk. This wasn't something I had planned, it just sort of jumped out at me. Again, sorry for the sudden hiatus again, I'll be around after the 14th... hopefully.
*Edit* Oh, I also forgot to mention that Old Faithful, my phone, which has served me with distinction since Febuary 2006, died in the rain last night. Fml.

Alright, people. If any of you have me added on skype, or keep an eye on this page, you'll probably have noticed that I haven't been very active lately. This journal is a retroactive explanation for my month long absence, starting at about the middle of August and should end at about the middle of September. In a nutshell, here's what's going on: I'm hoarding words. Right now I've got about 15 un-uploaded stories or story pieces, not to mention a few pictures as well. Starting on the 1st of September, I'll be uploading one of them per day, hopefully for the entire month. If you need to contact me, FA notes are your best bet.
Secondarily, I'll use this space to shamelessly push my patreon! For any of you who missed my last journal, go here: http://www.patreon.com/Argyraspides
Quick list of everything that will be written next month: (Total 80,000 words commission)
15,000 words for Moonshot (He's first in line. The rest are in whimsical order.)
10,000 words for Patreon
20,000 words for Vacant Years
10,000 words for toyapup
3,000 words for Babymorris
6,000 words for Howling2themoon
10,000 words for zephyrr

Before I get into what I’m going to do, I’d like to explain why I’m doing it. Very recently I was informed that my student discount on my internet service, meaning that I’m now going to have to pay about two times what I currently do to keep my internet, and no competitors are available. This leaves me with two choices: Increase my income, or abandon the fandom in search of new work. Naturally, I’ve opted to choose the former, as leaving this wonderful community over money would devastate me. I’ll cut to the chase, patreon is back on the table.
As I'm sure you've all noticed, Two Weeks hasn't been updated since February. Some of you have even asked if I've abandoned the project in favor of commissions in general, and The Vacant Years in particular. Now, while I haven't abandoned the project, I have more or less abandoned the draft that I've been posting on FA since last year. The reasons why are numerous, but here are the most important:
Money: I simply can't afford to take the time off commissions to work on it lest I wind up going hungry.
Queuing: Whenever I work on a personal project, ANY personal project, people (most of them not even commissioners...) note me telling me how much of a jerk I am making people wait on commissions while I write personal stuff. No names, but I've gotten quite a few of these messages.
Drive: I loved Two Weeks when I first started, as is often the case with a novice writer starting their first novel, but that inspiration has gradually worn away. Mostly because of...
Inconsistency: It may come as a shock to you guys, but, when I started reading Two Weeks from the beginning early this week, I was amazed how far this novel's universe had come. Unfortunately, it has evolved so far that the draft that you've all read on FA is now totally obsolete. It simply doesn't fit my current vision of the universe, and must be discarded. Here's a selection from my personal journal to explain why:
Two weeks, my long-standing babyfur novel and one of my claims to fame, has outrun its tail truly and completely. The prose is written in an obsolete style, the characters have evolved into something I never intended when I started, the universe itself is now deeper and more complex than I'd ever imagined while starting it, and, as I feel right now, it would be an insult to the themes and ideas contained within to simply pretend that these inconsistencies do not exist. They do, and they are crippling the work. Therefore, I've decided to start over from the beginning, using the crowed source funder Patreon as a means to finance it, and reward my supporters with the works in progress as I write them.
This may seem like blatant profiteering, to throw up a pay wall around something that was previously free to read, but I am presently convinced it is the only way. I mentioned using patreon previously in a recent journal, but the feedback was as much good as bad, so I've decided to go forward with it. In a nutshell, I'm doing this because Patreon would solve ALL my current problems. Finances would no longer be a concern, because Two Weeks would be actually making me money. People would stop noting me about queuing because people are actually paying for this. My lack of drive would be overcome by a strict monthly quota, and the inconsistencies that have for so long prevented me from moving on would no longer become an issue because I'll be starting over from the beginning! Two Weeks 2.0 will take everything I did well in the first draft and improve on it, using the skills that I've gained over the past year. Don't believe me? Well, I'll be posting the first three chapters free to read on FA as teasers so you can see for yourself. Subscribing to me on Patreon is easy, safe, and costs less than lunch at McDonalds. I'm asking 5$ per month to support me and gain exclusive access to my novel as it's being written, but that's not all:
New content will be uploaded every Friday, including:
- An edited and formatted PDF of one of my stories (Every Friday)
- A professionally read and produced audiobook of one of my stories (Every other Friday)
- Exclusive access to my novel, Two Weeks, and all future novels (Upload dates will vary, but the monthly word count will be consistent)
- A monthly story raffle that will be given to one of my supporters (Last Friday of every month)
- Access to all my babyfur related personal stories! (Uploaded whenever I write one, probably 1-2 per month.)
Finally, I’d like to offer special thanks to a handful of wonderful people.
rathalos1
vexxus
tornpup and
yoyolizard for their extremely generous donations to my work.
toddlergirl

theunthinker and

Alright, yeah. Some of you already know what happened, others know part of the story, others don't know what I'm talking about at all. Yes, I was hit by a car last Monday in a hit-and-run accident. I developed intense headaches, blood in urine, and difficulty breathing late last week, and went to the hospital, where I found out I had a severe concussion and two broken ribs from the accident. Don't get too worried, I'm in a lot of pain and am medicated for it, but none of the injuries are permanent. I'll be fine in a few weeks. I'm trying to avoid the technology as much as possible, because it makes my migraines worse, hence that I've been away from Skype, email, and other things lately. Unfortunately I can't just sit back and relax until I'm back to normal because of financial difficulties, and I'll be continuing on with commissions as much as possible given my condition. Here's next week's breakdown:
8,000 words for Babystar
5,000 words for Howling2themoon
7,000 words for Candymane
I've also reconsidered the patreon thing, and I'd like the community's opinion on it. What if I offered edited versions of all my stories, audiobooks, and a monthly story raffle for, say, 2$/month? Does anyone have any other ideas? Please give me your two cents.

Alright, guys. Hasn't been the best month ever, but things are finally stabilizing. My household is probably going to get a bit more income next month, meaning I won't be so strapped for cash, and I am FINALLY in control of my family's finances, at least to an extent, which means that the money is now being handled by someone who knows more about budgeting than can be learned from Monopoly. At any rate, I'm back on track with commissions, at least for the moment, and you can expect to see more uploads per week from now on.
Next week is going to be primarily concerned with Candymane's commission, with 15,000 of next week's 25,000 words devoted to it. 5,000 will be devoted to personal work, 2,000 will be used to finish Thelostone's (long overdue) commission, and the final 3,000 words will be towards the first part of Howlingtothemoon's commission.

My Hatchday and Updates
Posted 11 years agoWell, I must say that my hatchday has been a resounding success, all things considered. I had a good time, having a lazy day around the house and doing very little, but I'll be back to work tomorrow! As some of you may have heard: yes, I was hit by a car yesterday. No, I'm not seriously injured. I'll be fine in a week, don't worry about me. Special thanks to all the amazing people who wished me a happy birthday or did something for me, you all have my gratitude. It's been a really great day in an otherwise dreary month, and I owe that to you guys. Did I ever mention how much I love this community? Probably should have mentioned that.
Regarding my commissions, I'll be working my butt off pretty generally between now and the end of the month. Get ready for numerous uploads, people! On a secondary note, I've listened to the community feedback on my last journal and concluded that it wouldn't really be fair for me to throw up a pay wall on my two current babyfur novels, and so I'm revising my plan for Patreon, and I'll run the second draft of the plan by the community when I've worked out some of the kinks. Two Weeks and The Vacant Years will be finished and uploaded in their raw forms here for free, and that's not going to change. I will, however, be opening up a tips jar on my page if anyone wants to make a voluntary donation to my work.
It never ceases to amaze me, how far I've come in the past year. Just thinking about where I was, and how far I've come, all the things that have happened; it's mind boggling. Once again I want to thank you guys for being one of the best communities on the internet and around the world. Here's to another great year! Pints for everyone!

The future of my work (Please read if you like my writing)
Posted 11 years agoIn a nutshell, financial pressures are quickly becoming too much to bare. I had initially planned to spend the next month writing Two Weeks and The Vacant Years exclusively, but that's just not feasible. I'm at an in-pass here: either I find a way to pay my bills using this community and my writing (my vastly preferred scenario), or I'll have to take a full time job, finish what commissions I have, and quit writing for the foreseeable future. I'm considering a handful of options to increase my revenue here, the most promising of which is Patreon, but I thought I'd talk to you guys here and see what you all think. I'm still working out the details, but here's a simple illustration of what kind of things I'd be offering to my Patreon Subscribers:
• Early access to stories: I will upload all commissioned work for my Patreon subscribers to read thirty days earlier than I’ll upload them to furaffinity (Commissioners, of course, still get their stories as soon as I complete it.)
• Edited and formatted stories: EVERYTHING I upload to furaffinity is, has always been, and will always be raw, unedited, unformatted text. In addition to reading my stories a month earlier, Patreon subscribers will also get a vastly superior copy of the story, professionally edited and formatted and uploaded as a PDF.
• My Personal Work: Patreon subscribers will gain exclusive access to any and all personal furry stories I write twelve months earlier than they’ll be seen on furaffinity.
• My novels: If I go live on Patreon, neither Two Weeks nor The Vacant Years will be uploaded into the public domain. Only Patreon subscribers will be allowed to read the story as it’s written. I’ll also offer the completed, edited novels for sale as a complete text once they’re finished. For everyone else (except the commissioner, of course) the novel will be uploaded at a rate of one chapter per month, starting one year after it’s been completed.
• Monthly story raffle: All subscribers will be entered to win a monthly story raffle that will be treated as a commission.
• Audiobooks: Every month I’ll upload 2-3 audiobook recordings of my most popular stories, or chapters of my novels, voiced by yours truly. Might do something where people get to vote on what story they want to get recorded. We’ll see how it goes.
• Writing Workshops: I’ll be offering a monthly workshop for anyone who wants to watch.
Mind you, this is all just stuff I've had in mind of late. If you're interested, please let me know in the comments. I really need feedback on this sort of stuff. I'm thinking a fair subscription fee might be about 5$ USD per month (That's less than 1,000 words from me on commission), but I'm very open to suggestions. Would you like to support me while I do what I can to make the world a more enjoyable (and crinkly) place for all of us?

Learning with a bird (Please read if you like my writing)
Posted 11 years agoBack before the new year a good friend of mine asked me for writing lessons, and that got me thinking. Am I good enough of a writer to teach others? Would there be any interest if I offered private lessons over skype, or maybe a monthly text-based lesson that was available for anyone? Both? Please share any thoughts you might have in the comments below. I look forward to reading ^_^

Any of you who have known me for any length of time are well aware of how consistent the ups and downs in my life, and productivity, are. Needless to say, the beginning and middle of this month was a peak of productivity, as displayed by the volume of submitted material. But, since about this time last week, I've gone beak first into the ground. This isn't anyone's fault, exactly, just that my household lost two substantial streams of income this month and we're struggling to get by. The combination of lost sleep (it's REALLY hot out, and I can't sleep in this heat), illness, and a few other things, has left me about as down as I've been in a while. I'm not going to be able to do much writing in the next few days, unfortunately. I'll keep you all posted.

My Take on Paraphilia And Its Causes.
Posted 11 years agoThis includes controversial issues such as sexual paraphilia, etc. These are my thoughts on an often overlooked discipline of sexuality, and are in no way backed by research, studies, or any evidence that is more qualitative than anecdotal. I encourage readers to give their own opinions, and to debate me if they disagree, but please do not engage in flaming or attempt to derail the discussion with biased or hateful remarks.
Every fetish has two faces: tame and adult. Now, people can be more into one of those faces than the other, but there is always an overlap, never all one or the other. For diapers, this is the 'adult baby' and 'diaper lover' respectively, though the names are deceiving. When indulging the tame side of a diaper fetish, the point is to induce feelings of safety and innocence, because that's what the big baby is after. Most children who grow up with a diaper fetish had hard home lives, either because they felt unloved, neglected, unsafe, or lonely. It's usually a combination of those, or all of them, though. For the fetishist, diapers are a gateway back to a time where you could be safe, happy, and carefree, which is why the fetish becomes most prevalent during high-stress situations. It's a temporary escape. With the tame face of the fetish, the partner is usually -not- a sexual partner. They're a personification of how the child had wished their caregiver(s) had been, hence the expectation of the caregiver to be infinitely loving and giving, while never expecting anything in return. The sexual face of diaper/regression fetish draws its power from a different source entirely. If the tame face of the fetish is willingly surrendering your responsibility to take on the carefree life of a child, the adult side is having that self-reliance and responsibility taken from you, often by force. The submissive partner is forced into the lowly role of a child, whereas the dominant takes up the role of an all-powerful parent. Adult face diaper fetish is often mistaken for pedophilia, which is totally unrelated, which I will now explain. But first, some background on adult fetishes in general:
Every sexual interaction has two possible roles: the active and passive partner, more frequently referred to as the dominant and the submissive partner. This is common through all fetishes everywhere, it is simply the choice of HOW that dominance and submission takes shape. For bondage fetishists, having your movement restricted is an act of submission. With voreophilia, it's allowing yourself to be consumed by the dominant. Foot fetishists get off on forcing the submissive to worship what is regarded as a 'lowly' or 'dirty' part of the body, etc. With pedophiles, the rush comes from forcing sexual acts on an inherently weaker child, or having a weaker, smaller child perform sexual acts on you. This is different from diaper fetish, where the appeal is in the reduction of an adult to the ROLE and STATUS of a child, it DOES NOT include a sexual attraction to children themselves. The appeal is in the reduction from strong to weak.

Posted 11 years agoAlright, guys! I'm back at home, back in shape, and back in business. As of now I'm keeping a steady pace of 3,000 words per day, six days a week. Now, I'm not about to jinx this streak, but damn am I feeling good right now! Something clicked, and I'm making steady forward progress on all fronts. As of the writing of this I'm almost done the next two chapters of The Vacant Years, as well as the next chapter in Twinkle Twinkle. Once I'm done that, I'm going to be focusing on The Vacant Years for about a week so that I can pay off that commissioner what I owe them. With that huge task out of the way, I'll be able to walk right on through the rest of my commission queue in the ensuing weeks, most of the stories in which won't take more than two days each. I'm on a role here, people. Wish me luck!
As a secondary note, I've recently been experimenting with weight training thrice weekly. If anyone here has experience with that sort of fitness, and would be willing to give some advice to a noob, let me know!
Yeah, so things are pretty good! I'll get back to you guys in a couple more days with more news

Stories on schedule for week of May 19th:
Twinkle Twinkle
The Vacant Years
Under The Full Moon
Gift for Tiemeth
Hey, guys! Just wanted to let you know that I'm kinda/sorta okay at the moment. Just going to keep my head down and try to get by without having it lopped off my shoulders. To do that, I present you with the twelfth (and hopefully final) edition of my personal weekly schedule: the Dayplan Cycle.
Monday: Research, professional development, and planning.
Mondays are going to be spent conferencing with commissioners, planning, roleplaying (it helps me get into my writing mood, and has other advantages), and professional development. What that means is that I'm going to be reading over my own work and that of others, and writing detailed critiques of each of them. I've got a list of writers and stories that I'm going to be reviewing (and yes, Vexxus, your work is on it :-P), but, as my reading time is limited, it might take me a while to get through it all. But if you're kind of obscure and want me to give your stories some critique, leave links in the description and I'll see what I can do c: This is also my commissioner conferencing day. If you'd like an update or further information regarding your commission, let me know on a Monday. And be straight with me, no beating around the bush. It's painfully obvious when someone wants an update, but they try to make small talk and dance around the question, hoping I'll bring up their commission so they can ask. Seriously, I'm not going to insult you or shrug you off. Just note me, plain and simple, and say, "Can I get an update on my commission?" and include any questions you might have. I'm not going to bite you :P Also, if your story is on schedule for this week's writing, you'll be contacted on this day with any questions or concerns I might have.
Tuesday-Thursday: My writing days.
I'm going to be aiming for 5,000 words per day, every day, and I'm not even going to glance at social messaging if I don't have to until I'm done my workload. To keep myself sane, only 2/3 of my weekly writing will be commissions, the other third will be personal projects.
Friday: Excursion day.
Lots of stuff isn't open on weekends, so I'm reserving this day for any errands I might need to run, etc. I probably won't be around on skype or FA much on these days, but I'll catch up afterwards.
Saturday: Non-furry Day.
You guys are great and all, but the fandom has almost totally consumed my life for the past year. I haven't had time for almost anything else, and it's been great, but I've missed out. Saturday will probably be spent reading, working on personal stuff, doing hobbies, etc. Also IRL friends, those are important too.
Sunday: R&R
Exactly what it looks like. The day where I do whatever I darn well please. There's a small (tiny) chance that I'll write on my day off, but it probably won't be commissions unless I'm desperate for money.

Alright, guys, so instead of making all these dramatically journals whenever something bad happens, I'm just going to keep you all updated with these keepup journals to be published every Sunday or whenever something happens that you guys might need to hear about. As you might have guessed by my bars up there, I'm not feeling too good. I'll spare you all the details, but the fact of the matter is that the issue of my current housing situation remains tenuous. Both of my parents, who previously promised not to charge me rent if I couldn't pay it, are now simultaneously going back on those promises and leaving me with nowhere to live. Add to that that I'm sick, and what we have here is a bad situation. What does this mean for you? Well, I'm going to have to be unfortunately under-productive until I can get my housing situation under control and stable. If I get any time to write, it will probably be on commissions, as I'm going to need what little income I can manage.
Sorry for the bummer, guys, I hope to have better news to give you sometime soon.
