Fifteen years ago NASCAR lost a living legend
Posted 9 years agoDale Earnhardt died on February 18th, 2001 during the Daytona 500 on the last lap, on the last corner. I was 23 at the time and had just returned from the World of wheels car show here in Kansas City. The show which I am currently sharing the newest pictures from last weekend. I remember that day well. They had a #3 show car at the event I was at, never realizing that day would be his last race. I was with my two sisters, their boyfriends and my dad. We all went back to one of my sister's apartments and watched the last several laps of the race and saw the crash. Not until hours later did I learn that we had lost one of the greatest drivers of all time.
76 wins (one Daytona 500 in 1998), 428 top tens, and 22 poles off 676 races run. And seven championships over 27 seasons. 1979 rookie of the year.

EPA to stop you from building a racecar?
Posted 10 years agohttps://petitions.whitehouse.gov/pe.....les-racecars-0
This won't stand and I am sure this petition will have ten times at many signatures as required. This would kill racing series such as SCCA and NASA as they depend on people who build their own racecars out of street cars.
The EPA doesn't know who they are messing with when they try to control what an individual does with their own cars. So sign this petition and pass it on through furaffinity, twitter, facebook and what ever other site you visit where people have an interest in racing.

33 years of Monster Trucks how they evolved.
Posted 10 years agoFor those old enough to remember 1983 and the birth of the Monster Truck phenomenon I thought you would appreciate this video. I remember watching those big lumbering beasts running around Arrowhead stadium here in Kansas City back then. Bigfoot,, Taurus, Bearfoot, Texas Toy, Rolling Thunder (Dodge Van). Monster Vette, and yes even Grave Digger. Getting two feet of air under the tires was a big deal back then. The crush cars weren't painted pastel colors and you could hear the crunch of the cars under those massive tires. Plus there were wagons, trucks, vans and even buses being crushed. Today there is none of that but the trucks get massive airtime, and can even do backflips, sticking the landing and continuing on. The bodies since they are fiberglass don't have to be trucks but completely different looks altogether.
Do you like the old style or the new style or a combination of both? I have lots of pictures of the Monster Truck show I was at last Saturday that I will keep posting this week. Even if the show actually did suck.

The final minutes of the 24 hours of Daytona in its glory. [
Posted 10 years agoFor those who didn't get to watch it. And it was crazy fun to watch the two Corvettes race for the win in GTLM.
Toyota to end Scion line.
Posted 10 years agoGeared towards younger buyers during the Gen X period who started buying cars late in the 90's who didn't want their parent's Toyota's. The brand has been struggling over the last few years trying to appeal to the new Millenial generation who have as they have found out would just rather have a Toyota. So now the Scion's will be rebranded as Toyota.
Of course they were just Toyota's to begin with so I would just name the cars what they are as Toyota's and be done with it.

24 hours of Daytona of 2016 in the books.
Posted 10 years agoA Honda powered car wins the overall for the first time in the races history But the most interesting and fun races came in both GT classes. In the GTLM the two leading Corvette's were allowed to race each other over the last fifteen minutes and only four feet separated the two cars at the end. The GTD class was decided on fuel mileage between a Lamborghini Huracan and an Audi R8 with a the Viper who won last year waiting for both to run out.
By far the most fun 24 hour Daytona I have watched in some time and it wasn't even in the Prototype cars. One year I will make it down there to watch the race for myself. And hopefully that race will be just as much fun to watch.

That's not a Buick!
Posted 10 years agoSo these new Buick commercials I have seen for the last couple years really confuse me. Surely the executives that run GM know its history of great cars.
The Roadmaster, Regal, Lesabre, GSX, GNX, Riviera... Need I say more? I've owned a pair of Buick's in my time. A 1975 Electra 225 and an 88 Skyhawk and loved driving both of them. So wise up GM execs, Buick has a history of great cars that needs to be told and revived. Not forgotten by a commercial that makes the company look like it only made trash and old couple cars.

I definitely think the new stuff gives it a more baja appearance. Which is what I am looking for. New bull bar and LED off road lights.

Dakar rally kicking off the 2016 auto racing season.
Posted 10 years agoAnd it looks like Sebastian Loeb is ready to put another mark on his belt of accomplishments. Mutli time WRC champ, speed record holder at the Pikes Peak rally and now he's leading the Dakar.
Any thoughts for the first race of 2016?

Merry Christmas to you and your families.
Posted 10 years agoMy maternal grandfather died Tuesday.
Posted 10 years agoIts only now that I have been able to get on here and speak of it. Nearly ten years ago he had a stroke that paralyzed his left side. Last Friday he suffered a more massive stroke than the first and never fully recovered. His journey ended at 8:15 Tuesday night. I stood by him holding his shoulder, the rest of the closest kin was there as well while my brother in law felt his pulse slowly fade. Thankfully we got him back home just hours before his passing as were his wishes to die there.
Unable to speak clearly after this stroke his last words to me were few. But even Friday the words the came out clear made me understand he knew his time was coming to an end. He told me he was proud of me, and thanked me for being around throughout. He repeated "I remember" three times before exhaustion took over. I held his hand and told him I understand and that I remember for him and always will. In my last words to him I told him that I would take care of the land he owns, and that he'll be with me every step of the way.
It's difficult to understand why he had to leave us so close to Christmas. I do understand him being ready to go however. He was the rock of this small family. Just he and his wife of 65 years, his daughter (my mother), myself as the oldest and only grandson, and my two sisters, and one great grandson. I think to him he had to stay around to make sure we were all going to be okay. Now he can go be with his father whom he lost as a teenager after a heart attack during a hunting trip. He always blamed himself for that but I think his dad has already told him to not blame himself. So I hope those demons that haunted him fro 70 years are finally put down.
Its going to be a rough road for all of us here. As I said he was the rock of the family even in his crippled state in his final ten years. We will be able to move on as he would want us to, but it will be very hard for quite some time. He treated my sisters and I more as a father would than a grandfather, and from the moment I was born 38 years ago he dedicated his life to me and both sisters.

2015 year in review.
Posted 10 years agoSo the year is almost over, but the automotive year at least for this area is. The last event happening last weekend which sadly I couldn't go. I saw quite a few cars I never thought I would and some that I knew I would, it would just being at the right show at the right time.
Some of the cars I saw this year to knock of my bucket list you ask?
1981 BMW M1
2015 BMW i8
Lotus Esprit
Nissan R32 Skyline
Nissan R33 Skyline
Bentley Flying Spur
Tesla Model S P85D
Ferrari Testarossa
1938 GM Futureliner
Three GM concepts (one mid engine Vette concept, and two Monza concepts)
A few of the cars from the Fast and Furious series
Chrysler Turbine concept
Four Packard concepts
Polaris Slingshot
Here are just ten cars left on my bucket list that are realistically able to see here in this city.
Ford GT
Messerschmidt KR200
Brass era Bugatti
McLaren 650S
Porsche 550 Spyder
Lamborghini Huracan
Toyota 2000GT
Bentley Continental GT
Dodge Challenger Hellcat
Tesla Model X
There were some changes to the shows and races around here for next year already.
No more Fast Friday's which is where I got most of the exotic car pictures. And no NASA racing at Kansas Speedway. Hopefully next year will be more successful and I will get lots more pictures than even this year.

George Barris has left us. RIP to the greatest customizer.
Posted 10 years agoI learned about it just a few minutes ago after coming online and checking my Facebook. I met him once years ago when both the Munster coach and Batmobile were at the Kansas City World of Wheels. He was signing autographs and wish I still had mine from him.
He transcended generations and cultures. Creating iconic cars for iconic movies and TV shows. From oldest to youngest car guy, from the 50's to today all who love cars know him. All who love the movies and TV shows that star his cars know him.

Lewis Hamilton now three time F1 champ.
Posted 10 years agoHe earned his third championship and second in a row this past Sunday in Austin, Texas. His 43rd win in his career passing Vettel for third all time and only eight wins shy of Alain Prost's 51. A little fitting he would lock up a championship at a track that he won the first race at.
Hurricane Patricia threatens United States GP.
Posted 10 years agoOkay I must point out that its truly threatening the Pacific coast of Mexico and is at the moment the strongest hurricane on record for this area of the world. Maximum sustained winds of 200 miles per hour and has the lowest air pressure reading from a hurricane ever recordedb 880mb. Its reach already extends to Texas and the full storm has not even made landfall yet.
While it is possible to see this storm stop the F1 race I think its prominent to speak of the lives threatened throughout the reach of this storm. It makes Katrina look like a squall. Keep your thoughts and prayers with those who will be affected by this historic and very deadly hurricane.

The Polaris Slingshot, definitely a WTF car.
Posted 10 years agoI saw one last night while I was waiting for my food at the local Tacobell. At the time it was heading down Parallel Parkway in KCK and I originally thought it was a KTM Xbow. They look pretty similar at midnight and it going at high speed down the road. As I am leaving the bell I drive past the local Culver's and there it sits waiting for food there. When I got a good look at it I saw three wheels, a single one in the rear. I was totally stumped because when you think of Polaris you think of off road recreational and utility vehicles.
Not this thing!! http://www.polaris.com/en-us/slingshot
Its an amazing machine and I hope to see if not the one last night, plenty more.

Big news concerning Tony Stewart. F1?
Posted 10 years agoTony Stewart has announced his retirement. A lot of people have speculated his guilt for last year's accident is to blame for this. But what people forget is his fellow team owner is by next year starting a Formula 1 team. I would say that Tony having owned many race tracks around the country and Gene Haas readying his F1 team, Tony is wanting to take a role there. Its no secret that even with his success in NASCAR he's always been an open wheel guy, and there is no higher class open wheel racing than F1.
In terms of the Haas F1 team I haven't exactly been keeping up with all the latest news. But here is the latest as of October 4th. Haas bought the failing Marussia team and their location in Branbury as his European base of operations. Kannapolis in North Carolina as the main base. Dallara, the Italian chassis manufacturer is building his cars and Ferrari is providing the engines. As of September 29th Romain Grosjean is their first of two drivers named, and the second has not been named and probably will not be until after this F1 season concludes.

NASA racing pics coming soon.
Posted 10 years agoBut first I need to finish off the concourse show pictures from back in June. I took so many pictures from that show that I forgot the rest. Plus I got super busy over the last month and could not continue.
Sadly I was suppose to return to the race track tomorrow for the final day of the race weekend. But something happened during the races today that put an abrupt end to the day an hour before the scheduled end. And now they have cancelled the remaining weekend. There was no reason given so I hope nothing serious happened as to why.

Grand theft auto Kansas style. Stealing a combine.
Posted 10 years agoThe amazing thing is no one was hurt. And for the life of me I can't understand what the deputy was thinking using his cruiser as a roadblock on a machine that can pull over a building and already crushed a Chevy pickup. I definitely feel sorry for the farmer that owned the combine though.
