Back from RF! A con report of sorts.
Posted 10 years agoI'm back from Rainfurrest! It was a nice chill, fun weekend and I had a great time. The atmosphere of the con left a lot to be desired, but I've spent too much time harping on the negatives on Twitter. Here are the positives:
1. I got to suit a lot! I was worried about the weather this weekend since I had to cross the street in suit from the Clarion, but it pretty much stayed dry all weekend! Seattle's Birthday gift to me, maybe?
2. I got to meet a bunch of folks I've known for years, but have never had a chance to meet in person. I also got to see a couple of folks that I hadn't seen in a few years, which was also really nice!
3. A CONVENTION ON MY BIRTHDAY! RF was the first furcon that I've been in attendance of on my birthday!
4. FURSUITING FOR MY BIRTHDAY I got to romp around in Goldie all day on my brithday, and I even had him decked out in a party hat late Saturday evening. (if anyone got pics of birthday Goldie, let me know!)
5. Beer beer and more beer! Despite the con location being a good walk from much in the way of food options, I got out to a few places that had a bunch of great local beer. Even the bistro at the Clarion had Mac and Jacks' African Amber on tap.
I was going to make another list of what I didn't like about the con, but you know what? I just need to get over my old-geezer graymuzzle attitude and let the kids have their fun.
...well I do have to say at least something
WARNING, RANT BELOW, stop reading now if you are easily offended:
All of the above being said, there were some very appalling things that I witnessed this weekend. I was going to make a list of those too, but I have coworkers that know that I go to these cons, and they may even visit this page for all I know. I definitely don't want to spell it out. Calling people out for their bad behavior and tactless choices is only going to make me look like the bad guy.
What I will say is that as much fun as I had this weekend, I don't think I will be returning to RF. There are many other cons that are so much better staffed and where the attendees are much more sensible to the public's perception of what is acceptable and what isn't. A con is not an excuse to throw other people's sensibilities out the window.
I like that furry is becoming more mainstream, it makes me feel less weird that it is something that I'm involved in. A select few need to realize that their actions do put everyone else's fun in jeopardy. Just understand that the folks you are spending the weekend with, having a good time with and who's company you are enjoying probably spent a lot of time earning the money/vacation hours to get there. Doing something that is likely to get the whole event cancelled is not only selfish to them, it's also selfish to the artists who rely on their sales in the dealers room. It's selfish to the fursuit builders who poured their hard work into building the fursuits. It's selfish to the performers who get out there and give it their all for your enjoyment. and most of all, it's selfish to the constaff who spend months planning these events with the hope that they will go off without incident. Please, please, don't be that guy. Being on staff does not excuse you from being that guy. Just think about it.

If I invite you along. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not invite yourself along to meals with me, this is my biggest pet peeve at cons. If you do try to invite yourself, expect an arithmetic quiz on calculating gratuity and splitting restaurant bills before I will give you the pass to come along.

Yes! I love showing off the art that I've collected over the years.
Can I draw in your sketchbook?
I most likely will not turn you down for drawing in my sketchbook. SFW sketches only, tho!

Posted 10 years agoI just want to thank all of you who watch my art here for enjoying what I do enough to watch my page, comment, shout and favorite my art. I'm thankful to have a group of people who enjoy what I do, and it really makes it worthwhile to me to know that someone appreciates it. I might not be a super great artist, but the neat thing about art- especially in the furry community is that there is an audience for every skill level. Having such a supportive audience really makes me want to improve, and that is amazing in itself. Thanks for all of your support!

What makes my style unique?
Posted 10 years agoIf anything? I feel like I'm getting bored of my style and starting to feel like everything I do just looks stale and boring. Just curious, what is it that you folks who enjoy my art see in my work that makes is unique?
I would like to try and push those elements a bit more and develop a style that is uniquely mine, but I can't do that if I don't know what it is I do that is different from other artists.
