A perfect record.
Posted 12 years agoI have continued my perfect record of NOT watching the Superbowl game.
This one makes 48 that I have not watched.
Not even for the commercials which I have not seen except years later on youtube.

PS, I heard it went badly for Denver.

Cutting back
Posted 12 years agoSaturday evening I had 14 cigars left.
That normally would have lasted two days.
It's now Tuesday evening (3 days) and I have 8 cigars left.
I only had one this evening for today.
So.... I have one cigar headed towards Chicago at 60 miles/hour starting from Kansas City....
Oh, wait wrong kind of problem.

Posted 12 years agoAs some of you may have surmised, I do Amateur Radio.
Despite the elimination of being able to send and receive Morse code to obtain a license, several magazines still have an almost monthly article about how to build a key to send code with.
Then I stumbled across this;
http://gizmodo.com/378314/a-fleshli.....-by-fucking-it
It's really just a pressure transducer, you could set a threshold to decide "key on, key off" and, well, send code with it.
Telegraphy has some short hand phrases called Q-Signals, QRS for example means "Please send slower" and one of the "joke" ones is QLF for "Please send with your left foot instead."
So of course in this case you'd have QFF and QFS for faster and slower respectively.
And I can only imagine the hilarity when someone shows up with it at a club meeting and challenges someone else to a sending contest.

Customer NOT service.
Posted 12 years agoI bought one of those old pull down ceiling lamps. It has that spring loaded egg shaped cord reel in the middle. Paid $2 for it at a yard sale.
As expected the cord is shot. So I go looking for a replacement. Ah, here's a place on line selling "Pulley cord wire" for $2.05/foot. Not bad. I need 5 feet.
Go to the check out. $5 minimum handling charge on orders under $50. Ok, I guess. Shipping $16.95. Screech...sound of brakes getting slammed on.
Sorry folks, I am NOT paying $22 shipping and handling on a $11 order.
So they have a "contact us" button on their web site.
I clicked the button and pointed out that I am NOT paying twice the product price for shipping and handling.
We'll see what kind of asshole excuse they email me with Monday.
Meanwhile I went over to eBay. There's an outfit in Ohio selling it for $1.75/foot and the total shipping was $2.40. That's much better.

Wire wire wire. Part two.
Posted 12 years agoAfter fighting with hardware issues for over a month, I finally got the antenna up.
If nothing else, it turned out to be a really killer deal for listening. And the results were encouraging enough to spring $72 for the parts to have a go at using it for transmitting as well. (Amateur radio)
The parts came in Friday.
Hot damn, it works. And it works quite well.
Bunners is happy.

My kind of art work...
Posted 12 years agoSome people sketch, play with markers, paint or sculpt.
I tend towards design and work with radio. So this is my latest bit of "art work."
See the picture else where.
Basically, one antenna, and 4 output ports to feed four separate receivers. And RF sensing to protect itself from nearby transmitters.
I've been playing with this project for about 2 months and wrapped it up this evening.
I'm pleased with the results.

Do you have ANY idea how difficult it is to smoke when you feel like this?

A tragedy in Connecticut.
Posted 13 years agoI've pissed people off in the past when I pointed out the "No guns allowed" sign on the library doing nothing more than telling criminals they will meet NO armed resistance.
So...IF you're going to designate an area as "Gun free" they you should be held responsible to ensure that it is indeed gun free. Metal detectors, limited access and armed guards. Otherwise, you should be held responsible as an accessory to murder if the people wrongly assuming that they were safe because you said there were no guns were in fact lied to by you.
Insane? Not as much as you would think. Back in 1999 an armed gunman shot and killed several people at one of the Xerox buildings in Hawaii. Xerox was SUED because they maintained a "No guns on the property" policy. Along the lines of failing to provide for the safety of their employees.
This asshole that shot up the school in Connecticut. He got the rifle and other weapons from his mother. They were registered in her name. So either she GAVE them to him, or she failed to secure them. Personally, I hope they try her as an accessory to murder.
The tragedy here isn't just the incident in the school. But more deeply, it is the consistent under funding of mental health care in the United States over the past 40 years.
Texas State Representative Jim "Cut cut cut" Keffer ® is a classic example of what's wrong.
Cut Federal spending. The States should pay for it.
Cut State spending. The Counties should pay for it.
Cut County spending. The Cities should pay for it.
Cut City spending. The citizens should pay for it.
And the net result is NOTHING gets done.

Passing the lie along to others claiming it is the truth is wrong.

So why do you persist?

Posted 13 years agoWhat should be obvious is that fear, hatred, racism and lies aren't a viable platform for an election.
Did they learn anything? No. "We weren't conservative enough."
Will they continue to substitute socialist, Marxist, fascist, communist and Muslim for the N-Word? Yes.
And where DID all these lies come from? The Tea Party, an alleged grass roots organization put together and funded by the 1%.
