A thought about the gas attack...
Posted 11 years ago...or more specifically, the media coverage.
First off, if any of you were at the con, I hope you are safe and well.
I was not there. I was at home, doing work when I first saw the news stories. Each of them seemed to glaze over the fact a chemical weapon was released in a hotel with over 1,000 guests and several hundred employees in favor of "LOL! Furries!"
Richard Reid's shoebomb hurt literally nobody, but we all half-strip at the airport because, holy crap, terrorism is goddamn terrifying. This attack did injure people. This was an effective deployment of a chemical weapon in a public setting, but Mika Brzezinski has to excuse herself from the set because it is just too damn funny, and the internet finds that HILARIOUS.
Am I the only one offended by this? I am okay being the butt of jokes (so long as they are actually funny), but what is effectively a terrorist attack being a joke just because of furries? No.
