Been in Utah a week (Summer of Awesome)
Posted 13 years agoI drive a school bus. I have summers off.
I returned home From Califur in the early AM of Tuesday last week and left for Utah later that day.
I've had a great time here in Utah, but it's reaaly for the best if I leave in the next few days. I carried a flag alongside fursuiters in the Orem Summerfest parade, saw Madagascar 3 with some friends, played air hockey, went to Hang time - quite a large recreational trampolining facility, spread some cheer, and spent a lot of time with the furries here, meeting some for the first time and getting to know others better.
In July, I have a furry camping trip to go to near Yellowstone. I also expect a package from
donthugcacti
August has the possibility of a few more fur meets and road trips and the main event: Rocky Mountain Fur Con.
I look forward to everything except the end of it all. It will have been a thrill and I'll have either Midwest Furfest or Further Confusion in my sights next.

I got to
midnitemountainwulf 's at about 12:05 am Friday. We chilled and chatted for a few hours. He told me that skskunk was going to make it. My excitement level doubled.
soulman21 shows up and we're on our way to the International Peace Gardens in Salt Lake City. It seems to take forever to get there. We are early and there are already 10+ furries waiting. I don't recognize many of them - fursona pics from Facebook rarely help identify in real life. I did get a quick hug from April. I was most eager for the 
pyrochan , 
gdzeek , and 
gldnclaw car to arrive and also, of course, an aforementioned skunk.
I spent the day handling for SK. (easy, fun job), and kept crossing paths with Zeek and Pyro on purpose. They were great fun to watch interacting with furries or the groups of children from around the park. Two of the coolest things I saw that day were a skunk on a skunk bike and a green Dragon backflipping off a swing. Well, that stuff and little kids being so excited to see the "funny animals" wandering around the park.
The meet ended too soon, but an aftermeet followed by an after-aftermeet meet with good friends and good burgers lasted until after midnight.
Sunday morning felt really sad. We knew it was over and we'd have to say our goodbyes. Thanks for the couchspace Midnite and Mystic!
It wasn't the end, though. I had made plans to hang out with Pyro on my way home. After some confusion, Zeek took me in for a while. I gave him all the pics from my SD card while we waited for Pyro, whom I was handed off to. I got some free food, hospitality, and play a six way game of Headbanz. (a game based off twenty questions) The best question of the night came from a non-fur (I'm assuming). It was "Am I furry."
About 9:00 pm I decide I need to head out. My lack of sleep catches up to me around midnight. I had to choose between falling asleep while driving or pulling over to fall asleep. Remembering what
oswanwolf spoke of last week, I chose the one where I don't die.
Totally worth it. Totally wish I would have had more time. Plenty of people I just said, "Hi," to, I would have liked to spend a few hours with. :(

Utah fur meet, here I come!

I may be carpooling from Rexburg, Idaho forward, or I may be going the entire distance by myself. Gas isn't cheap, but it's only money.
I get to spend a day and a half with people I've met through Facebook and FurIdaho and also meet some a new faces.
I'll be off work at about 3:45 pm and on the highway two minutes later.
I've got a little prep to do this morning, including taking a nap.
I'm going to be a tired husky.

Late FurIdaho Summary, a fur meet, and Califur room

I had never been to a con before, had never met furries in real life, and my beater Subaru <3 had 180,000 miles on it before the ten hour drive to Boise. My car held up just fine, I met a ton of friendly people, and am even more excited about future cons now.
I'm not gonna list everyone I met. Basically, if you so much as said, "Hi," "Why don't you tweet me on Facebook anymore," or explained to me some magical drink concotion that went over my head because I have a very low alcohol I.Q., I want to say thanks.
Some highlights:
First fursuiter I saw was Oswanwolf
Fursuit outing Friday morning with suiters Evauk, SydStoat, and JH wolf was amazing
Roochi's fursuiting panel was great with all the suiters
My badge!
Fursuit hugs from Eliaphir and Yuuryuu
Other hugs
Attending the recording of Fur What its Worth
Roiyaru_Inu not only found me roommates Mekenshi and Ryuu who were great fun, but also was really nice and let me get a feel for fursuiter handling (not exactly hard work at a con, but still fun)
Just being able to relax and chat behind the tables at the dealer's den made for a great Sunday morning.
Not just meeting people, but also finding them on Facebook, Fa, etc. makes my internetting more interesting and may lead to more opportunities for fun in the future.

Coming off FurIdaho and meeting so many people, I finally reached out to the local furs and went to a meet last night. It was just a couple hours chatting in a restaurant, seeing some cool badges and tails, and setting up the next meet...bowling! Now we just need someone to bowl in suit.
Califur room
I have one roommate for Califur. I have a "maybe" from a second roommate (would be suiting). At the least, I would like one more. I'm staying the nights of May 31 and April 1, 2, and 3. Should check in about 9:30 pm Thursday night. Check out would be by noon on Monday.

Posted 13 years agoSo, I have my room reserved for FurIdaho and have taken a shift off from work so I can get there early Friday evening. That's the good news. The bad news is I don't have any cost-splitting going on with the gas or the hotel. Oh well. I didn't get into the fandom to make money.
Inspire Pro for iPad, which I've used for everything I've drawn and submitted here, is simple and great fun to use. On the downside, it's too simple, so I've bought a new app that has *gasp* layers. I expect this to help at least a little with the quality of my art and help immensely with the amount of time spent painting them because I no longer have to painstakingly trace around everything I don't want to color over.
I bought a digital camera for my trip to FurIdaho. It's a Nikon Coolpix s3100. I'll try filling my memory card and I plan to submit some of the better fursuit pics.

Posted 13 years agoI'm going to take a serious look at driving to FurIdaho. June is so far away. March is closer! I just wanna make sure I'm not going to be alone. I need furs to hang out with and/or share a room.
The first three replies (from people I watch or that watch me) requesting a free drawing of their character get one! I just need a char. reference pic link. Expect 1-8 weeks for delivery and no refunds! Art can be my typical style or stick-figure style!
If no one wants me to draw them, I'm going to cry a little, but I'll understand.

Posted 14 years agoI've added Califur to my plans for the summer. I'll still be suitless then, but I look forward to being around fursuiters for the first time, not counting Disneyland from my youth. :P.

Posted 14 years agoI've used eleven pages out of my sketchbook (both sides on three of the pages) since going back to pencil on Christmas. I have a lot of free time right now. :) Well, I think using a pencil - as opposed to a finger - has paid off. You be the judge!
And, yeah....people have liked my real dog pictures the most, so I threw another one in this time!
I just want to throw it out there that I plan to be fursuiting in July and attending my first con in August - Rocky Mountain Fur Con 2012!

Posted 14 years agoYeah, my art may be mediocre right now, but as long as I feel I'm getting better, I'm going to keep drawing more pictures. This latest batch of four was all initiated and finished on my IPad. I feel that for my next step, I need to get back to starting with pencil and paper. I actually haven't even used my colored pencils (that I bought when I started drawing again) yet.
So whatever I do next is going to start out as a pencil sketch. I did one earlier that turned out well, but it's not an original and thus I will not post it. I sure hope my sketching goes well. After all, the better they turn out, the easier they are for you all to look at. :3

Posted 14 years agoTwo pics isn't much of an update, but everybody loves a puppy pic, right?
The rough sketch for the painting was easy. Color choices and any finer details kicked my behind. I learned a lot about what I don't know about drawing and painting while finishing it. The next time I do some art, I think I'm going to start with a simpler, smaller setting and just put one animal or anthro in it so I'll have fewer things to worry about. Hopefully that will get me better results.
Maybe I'll buy another drawing app, too. The painting app I use has very few features.
I appreciate the comments, shouts, and follows I've received. I'm not much of a shouter or commenter, but I lurk pretty well if I'm following you. :3

IPad woes and restarting with colored pencils
Posted 14 years agoSo, from what I can tell, My IPad doesn't work with FA's uploading system. My IPad is my only personal connection to the internet, so I'm going to have to find another way to get stuff uploaded. Had it worked, I'd have an avatar and a couple dog pictures up by now. If you see I have an avatar, I must have fixed my problem.
Short of random doodling, I haven't drawn anything on paper in years, but I'm going to pick up some colored pencils and some nice paper the next time I go shopping so I can maybe get back into drawing and eventually produce something I'd want to share here. :)
