Posted 16 years agoOk, so I wasn't feeling creative enough to give each picture it's own title.
Also, I've got 2 or 3 more on the way...as soon as I can find a computer that can handle it. My little 1GHz PowerBook G4 doesn't like processing a 9 image HDR. :P

Posted 17 years agoOkay, so I really haven't posted anything in about a year and a half. So, I have a lot of pictures backed up on my computer. After spending a few hours going through, these are what I think to be the best as a recap of the past year for my work. So I apologize for the baker's dozen of images that I'm uploading here as soon as I can get them all onto the server.

Posted 17 years agoNot expecting any replies. Just putting this here because it's the easiest way for me to keep the information at the moment for when I call insurance tomorrow.
Car accident, traveling on I-81S near mile marker 138.6, stopped car near mile 138.5. Suspect hitting deer at approximately 3:10am. Call was made to Virginia State Police at 3:14am after checking damage to car and walking back a ways to see if there was something in the road or on the shoulder that I may have clipped. No sign of animal/car/etc.
Patrol car showed up approximately 3:40am. Officer believes it was a deer as well, though there is no sign of blood or fur on the car. No injury to driver (me), and insufficient damage to the car to take write up an official report. Car deemed drivable by police officer after removing the plastic insert from the front-right wheel-well and placed in the trunk. Other damage includes missing piece of front-right fender, broken turn-signal and misaligned headlight as well as cracked windshield-washer fluid tank. No serious damage to hood or side of the car.
Calling parents after sleep to let them know, and figure out what they want to do with insurance (report first, or get estimate then call).

Posted 18 years agoWell, I got a call from one of my good friends and hall mate from last year saying that his roommate drowned and went missing. The three of us were pretty close, so I've been kind of in a state of denial as well as shock for the past few days. This afternoon I got a call from my friend again saying that they found the body.... Thank god, it does help bring a lot of closure. So if you don't see me around too much, it's because I'm either busy with school stuff, or I just don't feel like being too social online.

I've been pretty busy with school and work since I've gotten back from AC. Final exam for my summer school is on August 13th... Last day of work for me here in NoVA is August 5th.
So I'll be pretty busy over the next few weeks. I'll be moving back to Blacksburg on either August 15th or 16th, and volunteering on the 17th and 18th. Classes start on the 20th...
Also, my copy of PS decided to lose it's information and not boot anymore. Unfortunately I don't have the patience or an easy set up to reinstall, so don't expect to see updates until the middle of next month or possibly until the start of September.
In regards to photography though, I have good news! I have decided to finally get my own domain for a place to host my photos. I have also decided that I will start selling prints this fall once I get the website up and running. The website will be designed once I get back to school when I have a desk I can work at with a couple computers side by side. More information to come on that once I actually get a server set up with my domain.
I think that's about it for what's been going on lately and what my immediate future is going to be filled with. Mostly a lot of future planning at the point...unfortunately, it's getting hard to concentrate on the present. :3

Posted 18 years agoJust got word that I will be able to make it to AC this year on a very strict budget though. So I'll be heading up on Friday afternoon, staying through Saturday, and leaving mid-morning on Sunday.
Moving
Posted 18 years agoWell, the school year is coming to an end quickly. With only one exam left, I'm a little bit unsettled knowing I have to leave my newfound home until August. Yeah, I'll be back on occasion to visit and such, but still, I'd rather not leave.
Anyway, I know I haven't uploaded much in a while, but that'll be changing. As I head home for the summer with a new car at my paws, I'll be able to explore a few new places around town and hopefully find some new things I haven't shot before. So expect to see something in a couple weeks, though regular updates may not happen for a while until I get my summer work schedule and classes sorted out.
Anyway, I know I haven't uploaded much in a while, but that'll be changing. Emotional Instability
Posted 18 years agoWell, I've come to admit to myself that I think I may have become a little unstable over the past few weeks. Monday's events haven't really affected me, but I've noticed that over the past 2-3 weeks, I've been a little more depressed than normal, and I haven't been able to find a reason. I mean, things are great, I've got plenty of friends and have been having a great time.
Right now, my only excuses are that the sheer lack of privacy I have had over the past semester, and I feel that I have become too dependent upon others. I feel I really don't have a place to call home. My "home" is somewhere here in Blacksburg, but I don't have a place to call "mine". Even when my roommate is gone for a weekend, the other half of the room is filled with stuff that isn't mine, creating a different atmosphere. I have a few places to escape to, but even then, the same feeling follows.
Normally I wouldn't have much of a problem with this, since I'll be going back to my parents place in about 3 weeks to stay for the summer...but this has seriously started to affect my school. It's completely wiped out my motivation for almost everything, I can't sleep very well at night and if I get to sleep, I sleep through my alarms causing me to miss classes. I've missed deadlines for a few assignments, one of which might heavily affect my grade.
The reason I am posting this here is because I want my close friends to know, but I don't want them to worry. I'm trying to find a way to deal with my predicament, which may cause me to disappear from the community for a few days or so. Just know I'm not trying to avoid you because of something, it's just better for me since I'm fairly introverted and have no place to just lock myself away.

Shooting on Campus

Stuck Up Business Men...
Posted 18 years agoSo, I went to the mall today to get my headfur trimmed...
As I was walking to the door, an older gentleman in a business suit held the inner door for two ladies. He then walked through the outer door, looked me directly in the eyes, then let go when I was about a steps length away.
I know for a fact that it's because of the way I was dressed...just that look in his eye...
I was wearing my green military jacket and khaki cargo pants. I guess my hair was a bit shaggy since I woke up and had to be at the mall in 10 minutes, but still...
Guy was just a jackass....kinda ruined my "morning"...or at least the time between walking into the mall and before I got my headfur trimmed.

In other news! I finally replaced the last two speakers in my car. The subwoofers were added in early September of '06, and the two rear speakers were replaced in early October of '06, and finally the front two speakers were replaced today.
So now I've spent a total of $248 on my sound system in my car, and it sounds like I spent at least two or three times that much. I just need to do a little bit of work to get rid of some vibration, and relocate my amp.

Random Art Rant

Its too damn watery in my opinon...
I don't paint often, but I have little to no problem using acrylic paint just because it has a thicker body. Tempera is just too easy to mess up. >.< It runs under precut stencils like mad! I tried to do some block letters, and they came out kinda bubbley around the edges because the paint just ran under the edges. D:
Anyway...yeah, I hate tempera. I should post some pictures of my acrylic works someday....

Posted 19 years agoLet me first start off by saying "fuck".
Some of my friends are aware of the crap I went through at the end of last semester, but I just found out some new information...
The day before everything was due for my English final, my operating system decided to lose some data that prevented it from booting. I tried a few ways of working around that, even booting from disk, but of course, Windows XP Tablet Edition doesn't work correctly with just a regular Windows XP installation disk. And as luck would have it, the operating system disk that the company provided with the computer, will only reformat the harddrive to factory settings...
So, since I had information on my harddrive that I could not afford to lose, like my final project in English along with my final revisions of my papers...I couldn't reformat. Instead, I contacted my professor and explained the situation. She fortunately extended my deadline, and just gave me an incomplete for the semester which would be changed after I turned everything in.
Well, I took my laptop to Best Buy to see if they would be able to work around the operating system and pull the files off my harddrive. Of course, I needed my entire "My Documents" folder because of all of my music, pictures, and other school information. So, they wanted $160 for them to back everything up...ok, fine...I couldn't afford to lose the data, so I just had to bite my lip.
They wanted to run more tests and crap on my computer to tell me exactly what the problem was, when I already knew what it was. The lady was like "We had software that will be able to tell you if it's a problem with the memory, or the harddrive, or the BIOS or whatever." I just said to her "No no, I'm going to send it to the manufacturer, I just want the data" when I was thinking "I already know what the problem is, and I'm not going to pay you any more to just confirm that, and there's no way I'm going to let you attempt to fix it!"
So, I get a call a few days later saying that the backup was complete. I picked up my computer, and did a quick check of the 7 DVDs that were given to me to make sure that my English assignments were on there, and then I began to reformat my harddrive. As soon as the reformat was complete, everything worked fine.
I didn't have a reason to go through my pictures folder until recently. And now that I do, I find out that half of my D70 pictures are missing! Luckily a good portion of them were backed up on my harddrive, so the only thing that I can determine to be missing is my folder of photos from Midwest FurFest...

Some of my friends are aware of the crap I went through at the end of last semester, but I just found out some new information...
The day before everything was due for my English final, my operating system decided to lose some data that prevented it from booting. I tried a few ways of working around that, even booting from disk, but of course, Windows XP Tablet Edition doesn't work correctly with just a regular Windows XP installation disk. And as luck would have it, the operating system disk that the company provided with the computer, will only reformat the harddrive to factory settings...
So, since I had information on my harddrive that I could not afford to lose, like my final project in English along with my final revisions of my papers...I couldn't reformat. Instead, I contacted my professor and explained the situation. She fortunately extended my deadline, and just gave me an incomplete for the semester which would be changed after I turned everything in.
Well, I took my laptop to Best Buy to see if they would be able to work around the operating system and pull the files off my harddrive. Of course, I needed my entire "My Documents" folder because of all of my music, pictures, and other school information. So, they wanted $160 for them to back everything up...ok, fine...I couldn't afford to lose the data, so I just had to bite my lip.
They wanted to run more tests and crap on my computer to tell me exactly what the problem was, when I already knew what it was. The lady was like "We had software that will be able to tell you if it's a problem with the memory, or the harddrive, or the BIOS or whatever." I just said to her "No no, I'm going to send it to the manufacturer, I just want the data" when I was thinking "I already know what the problem is, and I'm not going to pay you any more to just confirm that, and there's no way I'm going to let you attempt to fix it!"
So, I get a call a few days later saying that the backup was complete. I picked up my computer, and did a quick check of the 7 DVDs that were given to me to make sure that my English assignments were on there, and then I began to reformat my harddrive. As soon as the reformat was complete, everything worked fine.
I didn't have a reason to go through my pictures folder until recently. And now that I do, I find out that half of my D70 pictures are missing! Luckily a good portion of them were backed up on my harddrive, so the only thing that I can determine to be missing is my folder of photos from Midwest FurFest...

Posted 19 years agoWell, I was talking with my old photography instructor back at my high school about how much I've missed the dark room over the past year. I was looking through the cabnit that holds all of the cameras, a bunch of Nikon F10s and Nikon D70s, as well as some other random things.
I pulled out a Mamiya C220 TLR camera ( http://www.lumieresenboite.com/coll.....;c=Mamiya_C220 ) and asked how it worked.
And well...he let me borrow it for a day, as well as gave me two rolls of 120 B/W film, tripod, and a hand held light meter.
I shot both rolls within a couple hours (12 exposures per roll, and I shot each scene twice to make sure that the light meter was accurate) and took it back to the high school and developed them. I think I've got a few nice ones, but I'll see when I get back into the darkroom again on Monday to make a few prints. ^^;

Posted 19 years agoSorry for the 10 submissions tonight. I got into a discussion about film photography with another photographer here. We started talking about he wanted to get into it, and how I wanted to get back into it.
A ways into the discussion, I remembered I had all of my black and white photographs in my desk here at college. So, I scanned them all, touched up all the scratch and dust marks (the darkroom I used wasn't of the best quality), and posted them up. ^^; I also wanted to show off my first photography works, before I got into digital.
I only posted three of the six images from my Solar Radiation portfolio, mostly because the other half of it was just used as a filler since I was on a very short deadline and didn't get my portfolio idea approved until late.
Anyway, you can probably expect to see a few more film photos uploaded later this month. When I return home, I'm going back to my high school and begging my old photography instructor to use the cameras and darkroom there for a couple days.
