General | Posted 11 years agoSo I'll be going to Montpellier, France in September. It's not quite Paris, but it's right near the beach. Sadly, the trip is for work. That means not a lot of time to do things I want. Just wish I knew what to do with the little free time I have in the evenings. Anyone know anything about the south of France?

So I started this little blog and I am uploading old stereograph cards to it in the format the 3DS uses in its camera software. I collect old cards and I have always loved the idea about being able to see those moments in time frozen in three dimensions. When the 3DS came out it became a mission of mine to find a way to ferry old stereo cards onto the thing for viewing. I've found a way. Daily images will be posted for those who care.
I am such a hopeless nerd.

General | Posted 15 years agoSo a long time ago my company was looking to fly me out to Connecticuit. And it would have fell on FurFright. So yeah, economy goes down the toilet, the want to save money. So when do they send me up there? Next week. I'll be there for the 6th to the 9th, so what now? I'll be in scenic Danbury, Anyone know of anything to do out there?

General | Posted 16 years agoI am officially a father! ... Holy crap I'm responsible for another human being!
On January the 6th at 2:57am our little Rebecca was born! She weighed 7lbs 15oz. As any proud poppa must do I have to share the obligatory photos of our little one.
Right after she was born she was having some problems (she ended up coming a few weks early) so she ended up in the NICU. While they had her there she looked like a cross between a kamikaze pilot and that poor baby from the matrix. Bathed in Bili light, leads everywhere, she was quite a tough baby and earned the nickname 'Houdini' having escaped from her monitoring equipment more than any baby on record. It was a tough few days, but the doctors and nurses there were amazing and kept ahead of her problems and helped us to receive a healthy and happy baby when she was ready to go home.
So here she is after we got her home. Isn't she beautiful?
Maybe I'm a bit biased, but I don't care.
Oh, and babies are a lot of work. Mere showed me this photo she snuck when I fell asleep feeding Rebecca. Yeah, trying to be a good dad and already falling asleep on the job. You guys need to wish me luck. I have no clue what I'm doing, but trying to do my best and falling a little more in love with my family each day.

General | Posted 16 years agoSo... What could keep me pretty darn inactive for close to nine months? I've been pretty cautious about announcing anything but I'm feeling pretty safe to say it now. We're having a girl! We just went to child-birthing classes today. Laughed at silly breathing techniques, was told to use a paint roller or tennis ball as a massager on Mere, and watched childbirth on video in black and white because their TV was having issues. But all the same the day was fun. And the concept of what's coming so soon is even more fun. She's due Jan. 25th, but is expected to come early. I've been putting together furniture, painting a nursery, going to showers, and helping nest and honestly it's all been wonderful.
But yeah, baby time has definitely been overtaking stitch time. Hopefully I'll be working a little more thread in now that things are coming to order, but I seriously have no clue what I'm in for. We'll just have to see. I'm so excited!

General | Posted 17 years agoI need your help! One of my favorite pairs of jeans has has gotten a hole on the right knee. It needs to be fixed. I want to embroider a patch to sew in inside the leg. Than way when I bend my knee the image embroidered on the patch shows! But what do I put in there? It's enough room for maybe part of a face. Maybe A nice ceiling cat to fit in there? Maybe a set of draconic eyes? I'm not sure! Any suggestions?

General | Posted 17 years agoI'm sorry I've been so absent lately, but I think I can finally talk about why. We lost the baby. Starting a little before the holiday the doctor was having trouble finding the heartbeat and last Tuesday I had to rush Mere to the hospital. She's alright, and we're starting to cope, but it's been rocky. And it may be a little rocky yet.
We're doing alright, things are moving along again. I think things will be okay. So don't worry about us. We have family and friends around to support us and a wonderful doctor who have all been and continue to be so amazing to us.
So let's try and get back to our regularly scheduled programming, kids.

General | Posted 17 years agoHitting the polls later today (stupid work only letting me have time off for polling late in the day). But going purely on platform, I'd be writing in McKinney (Green Party) myself. Love the environmental, mass transit, fiscal responsibility strains. Not a fan of her stance on race relations and equality, but you can't win them all. But I may not be given that choice. So we'll see what my options are when I get to my little booth.
On the main candidates. They'll both push economic reform, they have to, it's the big issue. Energy and environment will also have to be pushed, just on terms of increasing public (global warming) and foreign pressure (Russia/Venezuela, OPEC). I think Iraq is a mess. I don't think any withdraw plan or course staying is going to stop it from being the huge mess it already is. And I don't think there is any good solution for what we've gotten ourselves into.
I'm just sick of hearing about Marxism, the Joes, and especially half-truths about tax plans that won't pass in congress within a specter of what either opponent is promising.
I want to see the old restrictions on financial institutions put back into place, some old tax breaks reintroduced, some of the current incentives repealed, and selfishly a State and Local increase to solar incentives (which no candidate can really supply me). And possibly, as terrible as it is, a public trail of leaders of the financial institutions. Why? People always feel better after they see someone punished. It's not going to get any of the money back, but I guarantee it will rally a majority of the market.
And that's just me just blowing billows of hot air, because it makes me feel better.

On the main candidates. They'll both push economic reform, they have to, it's the big issue. Energy and environment will also have to be pushed, just on terms of increasing public (global warming) and foreign pressure (Russia/Venezuela, OPEC). I think Iraq is a mess. I don't think any withdraw plan or course staying is going to stop it from being the huge mess it already is. And I don't think there is any good solution for what we've gotten ourselves into.
I'm just sick of hearing about Marxism, the Joes, and especially half-truths about tax plans that won't pass in congress within a specter of what either opponent is promising.
I want to see the old restrictions on financial institutions put back into place, some old tax breaks reintroduced, some of the current incentives repealed, and selfishly a State and Local increase to solar incentives (which no candidate can really supply me). And possibly, as terrible as it is, a public trail of leaders of the financial institutions. Why? People always feel better after they see someone punished. It's not going to get any of the money back, but I guarantee it will rally a majority of the market.
And that's just me just blowing billows of hot air, because it makes me feel better.

General | Posted 17 years agoFirst of all a free album from the awesome Anamanaguchi. It's blippy poppy goodness. I suggest starting with Helix Nebula, or maybe playing a little Megaman beforehand to ease you in.
Okay, so this bit isn't free. Still it's not a bad deal. Unlimited cellular internet for $20 a month. It's without a contract and pay as you go. You'll have to hop to it, though. Sadly with this one I'm late to the party, and though my service says it is running the "full month" (Until Nov 20th), I don't know if it will let me renew. Read the article to find out more about the possible cancellation of the service and how to sign up for it. But I signed up, put the bluetooth on my phone on, and I am entering this journal via my laptop using the phone as a modem! So geeky. Got 250kb/s down on a file earlier so the service doesn't seem to be any slouch either.
So darn busy lately. Haven't run any designs in a while, and really need to! Not to mention a few notes I need to get back to people on. You are not forgotten! I am just being slow on the trades and comissions. I'm sorry guysngals.

General | Posted 17 years ago"So... You ever been a puppet before?" Just for record no matter if you say yes or no to this, they will still recruit you. I, like my wife, am a sucker for doing things for the kids. So when they needed someone to fill the part of "Buzz" the little purple skinned boy puppet, I fell for it. The shows are educational, and my audience is 2 and 3 year olds, so they actually like puppets. It's not so bad... It's just weird.
I've heard the phrase "puppet integrety" more than I care to ever hear again. A fancy way of saying, "You're stuck with it now!" It means they think the kids would be confused if the voice for Buzz changed a lot. They all seem a tad too serious about it, but who knows? Maybe in a couple of months I'll be the one advising, "The eyes on Buzz's head are a little higher than the others, so make sure you angle your wrist just a little more down so he's looking directly at the children."
And i'm not even gonna tell you where my hand is going...

I just passed five thousand views and I have over 325 watchers. I may not be one of the coolest kids in class, but I'm surprised. I'm no stand out with my sketches to be sure (I'd love pointers!), and I thought my stitching would end up little more than a short term novelty. Yet I'm driven on by all of you.
Thanks for the comments, compliments, watches, for playing my games, for pimping my patches. For the awesome ideas I get offered and the opportunity to try and realize them. I've gotten to talk with some of my favorite artists and found them to be awesome people. I've had amazing oppertunities to do try and do some great art justice in my little niche. When you wear one of my patches, shirts, use a bag, or a wallet. You're being a walking gallery for me. And I've seen the results. I've heard of people seeing my work at conventions, I've seen it in a couple photos on blogs. And it always floors me to know you'd be willing to pull that little bit out I did in public. So thank you. And I'm not talking the automatic response to a kindness, I'm talking about a true reflection on the fact that you guys would be willing to spend some of your time and attention on me. So again, thank you.
And always feel free to challenge me.

General | Posted 17 years agoGot something for you to listen to: Marcel Duchamp, "The Creative Act" Or for those of you out there who can't understand him or are more of a reader type, here's a transcript. Okay fine, how about I have someone summarize and analogize it for you? It's near the end of this video.
I see people here debating the value of their art for many reason. "Should I do porn?", "Why won't people comment [deeply] on this?", "I post a chesty vixen and it get ten times the attention my emotional opus garnered!", the list is nearly endless and baits flame like a pile of oily rags in the summer sun. Really I'm just in to say I find the interplay of artistic expression and social reaction just an amazing thing to watch here. Like Ze said, audiences were hard to come by in his day. But what about now? What about here? The amount of raw art here being refined, being realized, and receiving status... Makes my head spin.
So should artists care about the opinions of the observer? Should the observer be able to drive the hand of the artist with their conjecture? Who's to say? All I can hope is some of my favorites out there and the wonderful artists I have yet to find keep dumping that raw ore in that keeps driving this site so I can enjoy it for a long time to come. Not to mention keep producing my little threaded byproducts of the refinement process.
Don't get down, don't get discouraged, and don't surrender anything you don't want to lose. Don't stop praising, don't stop questioning, and be ready to pick a fight if you feel there's something there worth fighting for.

! We traded a while back a patch-badge for what I thought would be a badge. That is amazing, cute, funny, fitting since I am a Texan and love tall tales. I can tell so much work went into this and it's greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!
Second order of business! You kids are brilliant. In just five hours of viewing the code was cracked on my lyric sketch. Congratulations to wolfattwilight for figuring out I was pulling from Sir Mix-a-lot's magnum opus, "Baby got Back" when I sketched it out.
That right: My anaconda don't want none unless you got buns hun!
But that doesn't mean the party has to be over! Give the exercise a shot. Draw out a song lyric! And let me know if ya' do, I'll wanna take a stab at figuring it out.

That's right kids, let's hope it's just an estimate to cover what the kids refer to as the booty, but Centerpoint energy has posted a notice stating I will not receive power until Monday night. So yeah, no stitching for a while longer.
