Anthrrocon 2013!
Posted 12 years agoAbsolute and utter blast, had a complete ball meeting all of you, and I'm so glad we managed to get so many of you photographed with the Shelby Cobra.
I'm still waiting to get some of the photos from Hollyfox, but I have 95% of them already.
We have over 5 gigs in photos so far, so it will take a little bit folks. :)

Anthrocon.
Posted 16 years agoI could go on and on out how awesome anthrocon was, but you have probably already read ten tons of text about that already. If you didn't go but could have, you are a fool.
'
To those of you I made contact with, I will be touching base with you all in the very near future, thanks again for all the great times, conversations and collaboration ideas. This is going to be an awesome year hobby and project wise, I can already tell. :)

Dear UPS.
Posted 16 years agoHow i love you, let me count the ways.
Or in this case, the broken merchandise. I just ordered a new (okay, used, but new to me) Toshiba tecra M4, those tablet laptops with the wacom tablet/screens? Very nice machines.
Sure, its used, but its checked out by the company and certified with a satisfaction guarantee, and we have ordered equipment from these people before. The worst you get are superficial blemishes like small scuffs and scrapes in the finish. functionality wise, 100% A-OK, or your money back/exchange.
But UPS decided to add a few of their own by not only beating the utter snot out of the box, but then dropping it so hard the padding failed and the corner of the laptop managed to make impact with what appears to have been concrete from the looks of the scuff and dust on the box.
The m4 laptop is made of /metal/ on the bottom, its not some flimsy ass dell plastic craptop. But that doesn't matter, when you drop something that hard, it breaks. shattered, the whole back corner looks like somebody smashed it in with a hammer.
Best part is? somebody at UPS /opened/ the box to check it. the tape was already cut, and the flaps were done horribly wrong. And they didn't even bother to re-tape it, and it was deliverd, to my door, in this shambled state.
The package had to go less than 150 miles from warehouse to my house. and they managed to destroy it.
Obviously the huge destroyed bash of a corner was already there, and had nothing to do with the box being dropped on the very same corner. Everybody sells laptops in that condition, really. Obviously the UPS guy made the right choice in shoving it back in the box and sending it on its way while he whistled innocently.
And the day before x-mass eve too. Way to go UPS brown guy, and I sure as hell hope the people who sold it to me don't dick me around and i have to do the claim through UPS. Ugh. Did that once, and they all but call you a liar. They own their own damn insurance company, so they can deny whatever the fuck they want, its retarded.
X-mas can go to hell, UPS can ride bitch, and morons who bash up holiday time packages and then don't own up to it/send them back so they can be re-sent properly need to go fucking die. I haven't bought myself anything for the holidays in five years. then when i do treat myself, some asshat with a quota to meet dicks it all up.
What can brown do for me? it can go to hell. Bah. I'm so asking the folks if i can just /drive/ up there, swap and drive back. Take UPS out of the picture. I could use a nice between holiday road trip.
Who wants to come with? Road trip with uncle Hudson.. gah, sounds like a porn flick. :P

Mudbox 2009 is out! OMGWTFBBQYAY! NOT!
Posted 17 years ago...Why not? Because Mudbox 2009 is an utterly broken pile of DOG SHIT. (<-- have fun picking that one up google.)
I'll just run the skinny down for people who don't know, but mudbox was recently bought up by 3d whores autodesk. makers of 3dstudio, destroyers of worlds, etc.
mudbox 1.0 blew Zbrush out of its silly undecided pool of features by doing what its designed to do and not having a gui that makes usability designers cry hot steaming lumps of lava.
AD snatched them (mudbox) up, new features are immediately announced, such things as 3d texture painting (which can be a HUGE pain, let me tell you, most programs for it..well, fail.) and other very nice things.
And it just came out! The basic features from mudbox 1.0 work fine! they polished up the work and feel of the brushes and tools some, and added a couple spinners for features you need to have access to, all good.
But all that fancy schamcy features like texture pain, gloss, and all the other mumbo jumbo that is supposed to make it worth paying over 700 bucks for?
Well, its all effin BROKEN.
Don't take my words on it, go look at the forums, every other thread is a 'WTF am i doing wrong?' question, soon followed by 'nothing, its a bug' and then 'spin' from the forum mods about a mysterious service pack that's going to come out 'sometime soon' (WTF, ID software can pull 'when its done' on new ground breaking games, you don't get to on critical fixes, jackass!)
They cite hardware compatibility problems, yet the devs slipped up and mentioned mostly software fixes. (Yeah, seeing as how every person complaining is basically well beyond the hardware requirements and compatibility wise, i guess its not a hardware issue huh? :P)
Oh, and if the base model you make has any ngons in it, you are basically FUCKED. Even if its hidden and you don't know its there till later, you will likely not spot it because its in an impossible to repair place, and only notice this problem near the end of the mudbox workflow process, forcing you to give up and start over. Yes, all the way over, as in you are probably better off ditching the base mesh and starting from scratch.
And you better damn well hope an ngon doesn't sneak in there someplace.
Or that the 3dsmax (Also by autodesk) save/export/whatever system doesn't fuck things up on its own and result in a mudbox-mess of a file it can't work with.
(So much about all that 'easier workflow' bragging huh AD?)
And the cream of the crop? You can't open mudbox 1.0 files with mudbox 2009. PERIOD. There is no import, convert, or whatever workaround, that's it, if the file ever touched mudbox 1.0, you are basically forced to go around assholes and elbows of importing exporting and re-importing it into mudbox 2009 as a obj, thus loosing all your detail and complexity layers and such, which more or less makes it useless.
The bottom line is, the fucking thing wasn't tested on nearly enough setups, conditions, and there was some serious lack of forethought going on. I doubt this is the fault of the original programmers, but more some dickcheese plebe up at autodesk, this isn't the first time they have dick-assed their newly acquired products, it probably won't be the last. (Hi Maya users! Hows that ass feeling today? Still sore? I'm Sorry.. :( )
Expect Mudbox to drown in its own fecal waste for at LEAST two more versions folks. Ugh. I now refer to Mudbox 2009 as ShitBox 2.0.

Character Sheets
Posted 17 years agohttp://www.jawa9000.com/technical/C.....ter-sheets.htm
This might be good reading for some.
Mostly I'm linking this article because right now I am on the market for somebody willing to do such sheets in commission. I have spoken to and gotten a few commissions here and there, but while the art was good, it wasn't a real character sheet in the sense of what I needed and tried to explain, and the artists are just too swamped to really take any more commissions for a re-try. Oh well. Maybe that page will help explain it better than I can. :)
I have a number of characters I *want* to do, but I'm going to just stick with one for right now.
I'm a 3D guy, I do 3d characters, animation and textures, etc, have off and on for a few years now. I have done some stuff in the past, but none of it was really 'furry' and most of it was under an agreement which means I'm not allowed to post it because *i* didn't make it, some company with my ass on a piece of paper did. :P
ANYWAY, So, I need to get a commission, one character, bipedal, wings and tail, non-human. further details on inquiry. I don't need color or costume design, just a manbits-lacking nude. (I can make a wang without needing a map.)
Image must at least be a cleaned up sketch or an inked piece. Doesn't need to be inked like a masterpiece commission, inking just makes the lines easier to see and saves me from digitally inking it myself.
Now the kicker, I'm willing to pay 100 bucks for it. Maybe more. I might come back and get more of these done if I find what I'm looking for. If I open myself up to taking commissions, I'll probably be sending people to whomever I find first to get a sheet done before I start cranking out polygons.
But I'm going to expect the image be done to the specifications required (The article should explain the concept pretty well, if not, ask.). This requires said artist to be able to reproduce measured anatomy and consistent artistry across the image for the three positions it must be drawn in, front, side, back. I prefer mine in the usual feet apart arms out pose. I'm also going to expect the artist be able to put the work out within a month or so, not two years.
Payment works like this: 50 now when I see the first sketches, 50 when we finish getting details ironed out. Plus tips for mailing disks/paper/small children/whatever. Should be fairly easy process, I have past reference art available.
I'm NOT looking for an anatomy class bigot who can't see beyond the textbook for the lesson, I'm NOT looking for beginner artists who can't meet the criteria (but if you can, shoot me a line!). I'm looking for somebody who really knows their stuff and really wants to see how their work translates into a professionally done 3d rendering and animation.
Feel free to ask questions or offer suggestions on who I can look to for this, I'm close to giving up over here, anybody I ask has no idea WTF I'm going on about or just plain doesn't have the time or ability to get it done in any reasonable amount of time.
