The water heater was fixed...

Posted 13 years agoWe were fine, sticking it out til like 8 last night before we decided the water was getting too high and we grabbed some shit and were about to head to the cars (which we previously moved to higher ground) but the evac truck came by and my mom yelled over to them so we ended up wading through about 2.5 feet of water in the street, climbed up onto the truck, and went and chilled at the police hq for a few hours.
By midnight the water had receded enough and one of our neighbors gave us a ride home. Found out our basement was totally full (just about to the ceiling). Hooked up the pump and generator and started pumping water out. Went to bed. Glad i got to sleep in my own bed instead of the police hq filled with wet people and animals and smells and icky people vibes.
We're still pumping water out. Not even halfway down. School is closed for idk how long. And idk how long itll be til i can get there anyway. I hear our powers gonna be out for like 10 days.

What I've been up to.
Posted 13 years agoYeah, I'm not really active on here much anymore. I check every so often to see if anyone's trying to contact me (or if anyone commented or faved or watched. I like when people like my stuff. I won't pretend to be humble)
I started school at IAR in September. That's the Institute of Audio Research in NYC. I'm commuting back and forth so I still live in Jersey.
It's a one year technical school. Different classes each quarter.
I'm in my first couple classes still. I've got a Basics of Digital Audio Lab and Lecture, an Audio Electronics Lab and Lecture, and an Ear Training and Acoustics Lecture.
I think next quarter is music business, further digital audio, and something else.
So, I finally decided what I wanted to do. Quit my job, started school.
I'm actually enjoying it, too. This is nothing like the art classes (or any of the history/math/etc classes) at community college.
I'm not even done with my first set of classes and I'm already seeing the results of what I'm learning. My Digital Audio Labs have been about learning to use ProTools (audio mixing/editing program) and lately I've been finishing up on the project and sticking around to noodle around with the song we were given. I'm already starting to use equalizers and pan pots and other such stuff effectively (at an amateur level but y'kno)
Good classmates too. I kinda expected to be going to class, keeping to myself, and scramming for home as soon was class was out. But I'm actually chatting with my classmates during breaks and in between classes and such.
So, I'm happy I decided to do this but damn is it tiring. I get out of those at 10:30 in the morning and dont end up home til like 7 or 8 at night. It's the commute that kills me. A bus, a train, and a couple blocks both ways.
Worth it, though.
I'm still on Tumblr daily. Check it on my phone when I'm waiting for bus/train/class/etc. hyvoltage.tumblr.com
I've also been rewatching One Piece from the beginning on the bus and during my downtime at night. Such a good decision. It really is like rereading your favorite book. And I've been picking up on little bits of foreshadowing I didn't notice the first time around, some of which haven't been fully realized yet (the series isn't even close to over).
Started watching Supernatural, too.
I'm having a Movie Night tonight. I watched Drive (amazingly directed/acted movie. Love the pacing, the Driver, and the music.) and now I'm watching The Thing. Next one's gonna be a horror too, haven't decided what.
I think that's about it. If I had anything else to say it's that I kinda wish my TV Head would get a bit more attention on Tumblr. Wish I had some more art or a good photographer, someone I could easily work with. I'm still an awkward dude and that's a kinda out there request. "Hey, wanna take pictures of me acting up with a TV on my head?". I'd have a serious problem acting up enough with a photographer I'm not close to on some level. Either someone I know and trust well enough or someone who's a nutjob like me. I'd be too reserved and the pictures would have no energy. I've done a couple webcam shots but that can only go so far.
I'm done. Peace, friends.

I love genres.
I love labels.
I used to be that "labels are for soup cans nyeh" kid, but now oh jeez
labels labels labels
Not that I think everything should be textbook and neatly fit into little categories. Things should be described by labels, not governed by them. things should be the reason we have labels and not the other way around.
I love labeling genres and styles and such.
like movie genres. like cyberpunk. years from now you'll see my dvd or blu-ray or fuckin holocube collection and it'll be broken down into categories. cyberpunk section. steampunk section. hot-blooded action section. bloody slasher film section.

I think I immediately categorize things in my own way. Like, I just saw The Amazing Spider-Man, and I stick that in the superhero movie category. Some things fit in multiple categories. The Matrix: Cyberpunk and HyperAction

Getting into a cyberpunk mood
Posted 13 years agoLast two movies I watched (aside from going to see the new spider-man) were The Matrix and Twelve Monkeys. I showed Hackers to a friend of mine a few weeks back as well. Might be my favorite movie of all time right there.
Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis are two of my favorite actors. I love that I share a birthday with Bruce Willis.
So.
Cyberpunk recommendations/discussions?

Skyrim: Dawngaurd (Possible Spoilers)
Posted 13 years agoMy first Skyrim character was an Argonian Rogue. I played through the main questline and the Civil War questline on the Stormcloak side and a bunch of side quests. Eventually I got him up to around lvl 50 and started to get bored with how strong he was and the lack of big quests.
So i started a new rogue with the idea that I'd focus all my skill points in the right areas this time because I made bad choices on my first rogue since i was getting used to the game. I also decided that I'd roleplay this rogue on the lawful side siding with the Imperials and, when the dlc came out, the Dawnguard.
The whole Dawnguard DLC is about a war between these vampire hunters, the Dawnguard, and these elder pure-blooded vampires. I figured I'd play my lawful new rogue on the Dawnguard side when I got her up to a decent lvl and then when I finished with that I'd play my old, wicked-strong, rogue on the vampire side.
Unfortunately, and here's where the possible spoiler might kick in, there's a point in this new questline where you need the Elder Scroll that you get in the main questline. I hadn't played any of the main questline with my new rogue yet as I had been focusing on lvling and doing the Thief's Guild questline.
At that point I decided to just switch over to my old rogue and play the vampire side and go back and do the main questline and probably the Dark Brotherhood questlines with my new rogue later.
I knew playing the bad guy would be serious fun with my big bad lvl 50 but holy crap it's more fun than I expected. Especially since you join the Dawnguard first before you go over to the vampire side so there's this whole betrayal thing.
Villainy is fun.

Posted 13 years agowas pretty cool
Pretty much hung out with
and her bf the whole time.
Finally got drunk on saturday night. (just a wee bit wobbly, but I'm told that being only a bit wobbly after 3 Bass's, a JaegerBomb, and a Southern Comfort in around and hour or 2 is pretty decent tolerance)
The con just kinda lacked oomf. the dealers room lacked variety, no cool tshirts. I did get a Pinkie Pie decal for my laptop.
They definitely needed more space. And more events, panels and shit.

I love characters like the Doctor and Alucard.
Posted 13 years ago((This is me rambling. I didn’t proofread this or nothing. I’m just gushing about awesome characters.))
They’re like god-level characters that feed off of chaos. And the best part is, they feed off of chaos because it’s the only thing that does it for them.
Alucard, who has been around for I-don’t-know-how-long has gotten bored. He not only willingly serves the Hellsing Estate, heexcitedlyserves it. There has been no one to match him for so long that he takes his position as Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing’s own personal gun just to get his kicks. He lets his opponents tear him apart before he pulls himself together and (probably literally) gives them hell.
My favorite part about Alucard is his relationship with Sir Hellsing. He acts as a completely humble and loyal servant. Hellsing’s dog. But he’s constantly pushing her buttons, trying to get her to snap and show weakness as his master. Or maybe he’s just setting her up to impress him with her strong will. When the time comes for Alucard to get a little extra dirty, like when he has to kill some humans that get in his way (the usual targets are ghouls and vampires and such) he gives Sir Hellsing a call. He goes on this monologue about how he is completely and totally aimed and ready to kill anything that stands in his way and all he needs is Hellsings order. He practically taunts Integra, trying to get her to show a little sympathy for the humans she is about to set him off on. And every single time she snaps and barks at him to stop mocking her and kill them all, search and destroy. And she never forgets to remind him of his place beneath her.
And then there’s the Doctor.
This 1100-some-odd year-old mad genius time traveler guy. I could go on forever about him, but I’ll try to be brief.
He’s the cause of the most horrific end to a war ever and he spends the rest of his remarkably long life running away from the choice he had made. And the worst part about it is that the choice he had made has unraveled and the threat of war is back. So now he’s stuck with the consequences of that decision and the decision didn’t even carry through.
He runs around acting like a child, trying to distract himself from that one big regrettable event and all the smaller ones he has caused since.
He draws himself towards trouble because he figures he’s clever (and he is) and he can fix it (he usually does) and it’ll pay for what he’s done in the past (nope). Half the time he just puts himself in yet another horrible catch22 decision. Save one person or race and you condemn another.
I think my favorite part about the Doctor is that he’s pretty much this creepy old man in a big white van with FREE CANDY spray-painted on the side. He runs around in time and space looking for a companion (usually a girl) who is frustrated and confused and bored enough to join this mad man in a box on an adventure through time and space. A couple season later, he loses them. It’s not that he gets them killed on these adventures, it’s just that, for whatever reason, they need to part ways. So he’s on his own again. He’s bored and lonely, so he finds another little girls life to fuck up. Amazing adventures through time and space are not walks in the park. What I’m trying to say, as simple as I can, is that the Doctor is a mad old man who lures little girls into a string of dangerous and frightening events for his own amusement.
I wrapped that up because I’m getting bored and I can’t think of much else to say anyway. Basically, these, and other kinds of characters, excite me.

All I gotta worry about now is trying to transfer a bunch of files over and putting some programs on here.
That, and naming this thing...

I usually listen to this song to be respectful of the bassist who died a few years ago.
I suppose I just did something close to praying in my weird reverence of music.

Androids and cyborgs and such
Posted 13 years agoI just started watching Ghost in the Shell. I saw the movie and SAC:TLM and I just started on the SAC series.
I've always been fascinated by these stories that take place right at the point we start to build androids and cyborgs and create hyper-advanced autonomous AIs to control them. And, of course, the high-tech modification of our own bodies, even going so far as to plant our consciousness into a completely artificial prosthetic body.
The reason these concepts interest me so much is that, before we even know it, we're destroying what it meant to be human.
We're almost playing god, creating these arguably sentient things that mimic life.
Then, in these stories, there's always that movement to include androids and such as an equal part of the population. Or, at least, there's a lot of social noise about it.
Some say androids are just as human as we are and then others stand by the fact that they're just machines created by us.
(just gonna take an aside here to mention how hard it is to type this. A lot of jumbled thoughts and it's difficult to put all this down in a straight line)
These androids start learning from us and acting like us and becoming emotional like us. One of the stories in The Animatrix has an android acting out of self-preservation.
These really are just a bunch of jumbled thoughts.
I'll break it off there.

Posted 13 years agoSo, I like me some goo girls, okay?
no clue why. just do.
I don't think i've ever seen goo boys but I assume I'd like them too.
Scrolling through tumblr, I found me this link ==> http://www.bodyslime.com/Frameset-engl.html
I'm gonna need to start making a checklist of things to do if I find a sufficiently fucked up partner.

Help me find this music? Jazz/swing/not-sure?
Posted 13 years agoI'm looking for more stuff like these. I'll add more links as I think of them and as I get successful recommendations.
Unfortunately for me, some of my favorite songs, the ones I want to find similar music of, aren't on Pandora.
Skullgirls Main Theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hg_C46jNIE
Tank! - The Seatbelts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6jCJZEFIto
Logos Naki World - Yasushi Ishii
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-KxsdWX9xE
Yes, I understand they aren't exactly along the same idea, but they are all similar to an extent and I'm looking for music like each of them. Or all of them if that exists.
I'll be hunting through artists and producers and such this afternoon when I get home from work.

I'll be hunting through artists and producers and such this afternoon when I get home from work.
know whats awesome?
Posted 13 years agoDealers who help you find new dealers when they stop selling.
I've been on a month long tolerance break and seeing as how tomorrow is Hitler's Birthday I wanted to start burning again. However, I had been aware that my dude had gotten a real job and probably wasn't selling. So I started texting around and couldn't find anyone who knew anyone who knew anyone etc etc.
Then my dude texts me back, says he'll hook me up with someone later
He's been like my fave dealer so far so friendly and easy to work with. We talked about Skyrim like every time I picked up.

Cabin in the Woods
Posted 13 years agoOh my god. That was absolutely fantastic. I'm getting this dvd as soon as it comes out.
I can't give you a synopsis without ruining it, so take my word for it. Just go see this movie.
I think the only thing I can say safely is that it was a fantastic meta-horror like the Scream series.
Spoilers follow.
In a nutshell, there are these various organizations around the world who set up horror-movie-esque circumstances for unsuspecting groups of victims in order to sate the "Ancient Ones" and keep them asleep. Basically, they're the gods who ruled the earth long ago. If they wake up mankind is kaput.
This movie was dangerously close to being tongue-in-cheek. The only thing that held it together was the whole Ancient Ones element and the somewhat serious way /most/ of the movie was presented.
Regardless, they played so well on your classic horror tropes like "I'll be right back" and "We should split up" and of course those tried and true horror victim archetypes, even the order in which they died.
Oh man, that was awesome. I won't give anything else away, just the gist of it.

Posted 13 years agoAnyone going?
I haven't decided if I want to yet.
I really don't watch/read much lately. Basically just One Piece and watching one of my DVDs every once in a while.
Oh and of course waiting for the next Hellsing Ultimate to come out...should happen by the time I'm 40...
