...Dont' go walking to your school in 100 degree weather wearing black shirt an' long jeans when said school is a few miles away, only because you think there will be no parking (and the school itself doesn't recommend driving there the first week)on the first day of class, but then get there and see that there is tons of parking spots- only to take a class for 30 minutes because they let you out early, and then you have to walk home in said hot weather.

Commissions, School, Updates, etc.
General | Posted 14 years agoSo, my commissions are officially open, for those of you who have been waiting.
Currently i'm working on three badges but if anyone else is interested in one, I can add you to the list.
BUT
Keep in mind, since school has begun for me; commissions will be a bit slower out the gate. this is because I value my academics, and I don't feel like failing classes because I lost sleep over my commissions. I work and go to school, and do commissions, and do other things. So all I ask is that you're patient with me. :)
School has begunnnn. i'm getting ready for classes and am preparing myself mentally to deal with it. I've never really had an interest in school. The environment isn't my favourite, and it's not like I don't like to learn. I love to learn, I just dislike the way it's usually taught. It isn't made interesting. It's almost always right out of a book or out of mouth; never really experiencing or immersing yourself the subject you are taught. The only classes i've excelled at are the ones i'm interested in, as well as the ones which you are hands-on in the learning. Otherwise it's dull and boring and extremely hard to focus.
My sketches for the charity prints are coming along! I don't know how they will do but i'm hoping people will consider buying them, since most of the money will go toward the cause. The reason I want to do these so badly is because one person alone usually can't do much for a charity. but a community as a whole collecting funds to donate can really make a difference. And not only would I be supporting the charities but i'd be able to practice on an artform that I really enjoy. I have quite a few designs.
Here's a question- Is there a specific charity you really admire/support? Or is there a specific animal, human, or environmental cause you support? These can be local or global, just list one if you'd like and why you support it.
My PO box is looking awfully lonely. I'm wondering whether I ought to cancel it after the 6 months are up. I love using it, but I'm not sure if it's worth it if i'm only getting one or two letters a month.
How have you all been? Anyone else starting school? are you nervous/excited/angry/etc?

General | Posted 14 years agoOkay. So you guys may or may not know this, but i'm caught up with my commission/trade queue. This means i'll be opening for commissions soon! I want to get to work on more of them before I start school, because after that time I may have to close them again, depending on how much of a workload I have for my classes. I'm hoping for commissions though, as they will help me pay off my stupid fees and book costs. ;;
-I'm thinking about trades, but i'm not sure just yet. The thing with trades is, it is usually the first choice for people, and when I get five or six trades and one or two commissions, it really tosses up my priorities. I mean, commissions naturally come first, but I don't like to keep people waiting for their trades. It's just rough for me because I don't ever want to skimp on detail to save time. No matter if it's a trade or a commission, I always try my best, so.. I dunno. We'll see.
ANYWAY..
Just to see if there is still interest;
let me know in journal here if you are still interested in a commission from me. :) I wont mark you down on a list just yet, but I will keep track of who is interested and you'll likely get priority when they do open for paying attention to my journals. ;)
I've been thinking really long and hard about personal projects i'd like to try.
I like to make prints. Printmaking is very relaxing and a fun challenge for me. I make my own stamps, and personal pieces to enjoy, but I was wondering:
Should I try to make a few pieces that can help others?
I was thinking about making some prints that I could sell, and donate the money I earn to charities based on the print. I had a few things in mind already, like a shark print, a honeybee print, etc.. Do you think those could sell as limited edition prints? Depending on cost, would any of you be interested, or in the very least, be willing to advertise or get the word out?
I'd likely donate 75-80% of anything I earned on those to the charities that are most related to the picture. The only thing i'd earn back is money to buy more supplies.
I am also about 90% done making Jellyhound adoptables.

General | Posted 14 years agoHey guys. For those of you who have been following my journals know that I wasn't able to get online at all the past few days. Well, i'm back now! One of the main reasons I couldn't get on the computer is that I wasn't home. I went camping for a few days with my mum, since we love doing stuff like that.
First day at our camp was riddled with bad vibes. We got to the site and there was a dead squirrel on our park bench that I had to remove and give a proper burial. (He probably had just died there earlier that day, but he didn't look old or diseased. :( )
Other than that we had a great time. lots of live squirrels to keep us company and beautiful views, wild berries to eat, and trails to hike.
I payed tribute to the dead squirrel by drawing a picture of it on the table. I also drew a deer, stellars jay, and a raven. I drew them only using two natural components, charcoal from the fire pit and Diatomaceous earth (A chalky substance we found in the mountains). I will post pictures of them soon! And a note to self: Wood is an amazing surface to draw on using these natural pigments.
Weather was perfect and we both had a great time.
Expect more updates/picture uploads through out the day. :)

I'm almost done with this batch of commissions/trades. I'm totally finished with the colouring for
ravennnn and just need to cut and laminate. the other trades i've got just need to be touched up and a bit more colour and they will be uploaded and/or sent out. :) I apologize for the length of time on them, just know that I haven't forgotten and am working on them when I get time off from work.
Expect more jellyhound art in the next week or so. LOTS more. My question to you guys is:
Should I upload jellyhound pictures to BOTH accounts, or just the jellyhound account? Would you all get mad to see the same art twice, on both accounts? Please let me know your opinions, and go visit if you haven't already.

General | Posted 14 years agoOkay, I have a PO box, and the postman really screwed me over the first month of having it. Not only did they fail to tell me I could only use one name for receiving mail, but they also gave me the wrong zip code to use. What the hail? D: How does the post give you the wrong zipcode.
Anyway. I'm praying I actually receive some mail this coming week. If not i'm going to raise utter hell (AGAIN). I haven't ever had this many problems with the post office, dude. No wonder they are suffering. Nobody wants to deal with losing mail and dealing with their crap. I should just send myself a letter and see if it ever shows up. :/
Anyway, I thought i'd update a little bit on my life, since it's been a little while since my last journal.
I've been trying to work on my trades and commissions. Know that I haven't forgotten any! In the past two weeks i've only had one day to actually just sit and get things done, and so i'd put paid commissions as my priority on that day. My next actual day off is coming up so hopefully i'll be able to get everything else finished then.
Jellyhounds. We all love 'em. Cuddly little monsters.
Now they have their own account. This will come in handy when I come up with adoptables. It will be a page for fans of jellyhounds as well as for people with jellyhound characters. I want to make them a well-known species! Go on and give that account a watch if you'd like.

General | Posted 14 years agoSo lastnight I found an injured squirrel in my yard with two cats about to eat it. I chased the cats away with a broom and my mum helped me capture the little beast. He was dragging his hind legs so he either fell out of a tree or the cats had bitten him, and he didn't put up a fight (I threw a soft blanket over him and scooped him up.) He is a young thing. Old enough to get by on his own but not full sized. Put him in my animal trap with a blanket and now i'm off to take him to a wildlife center. I'm glad the little guy lived through the night. Here's to hoping he'll survive.

I have no idea what i'm doing, but i'm taking apart my NES. Because it's been broken and I heard that if the pin connecter thingies are dirty, it wont run properly. If I get it to work i'm thinking about painting it and making it more lively. His name is blinky. HE GAVE HIMSELF THAT NAME. ._. Anyways.... Wish me luck? I want to play my old NES games again. C:

I want to really surprise my mum this year for her birthday. I have quite a bit of time to plan and save up, but I want to make this awesome.
So she really loves horses. I was brainstorming what I could do.. Like maybee.. Donate some money to horse charities or adopt a wild horse in her name, or something like that? Or maybe I could find someplace that does sleigh rides. someplace that takes REALLY good care of their horses. Or maybe just horseback riding.. I dunno. But I want it to revolve around horses. Maybe I should paint her a picture? or do all of this? @_@
Let me know your thoughts, or what might be nice, involving equines. :)
Also, A lot of you showed interest when I suggested uploading some photography. Anything in particular? Nature? My pets? Emotional or sentimental? Keep in mind, I -DONT- like taking photographs of myself. I don't believe I am very photogenic nor do I have the urge to stare at pictures of myself all day. So, sorry folks. :P Feel free to suggest other points of interest, though.

I'm just sort of frustrated with some situations in my life and I'd like to vent it out somehow. Don't have too many people who will listen to me outside of the internet (and the ones who will are probably sleeping.. Don't want to wake them up for me. xD)
So, read if you want, no hard feelings if you don't.
First, my wrist.
For those of you who don't already know this, I was attacked by a feral cat some years back. It was a viscous attack, ending up in about 7 bites deep into my wrist. I never went to hospital because I didn't think it was that bad (I was stupid -_- ) and so weeks passed and it finally healed over. I still have little scars from the teeth. About a year ago, I started getting bad pains in my wrist when it was cold outside. Like arthritis pains I guess, where it's a sharp annoying pain in the cold that won't go away. It would usually stop hurting when i found heat to apply.
Lately though, it's been hurting all the time. doing simple things like carrying bags or drawing causes my wrist to hurt, and the worst part of it is I have a job where it is very labor intensive and I have to lift and carry heavy things almost all the time.
I once had an xray done, and nothing was wrong with the bone. I wanted a scan done and I asked my doctor to scan it, because i thought it would be the muscle that was damaged, but she wanted to do xray. -_- Should I tell her to do a scan now?
If anything, I just want to know exactly what's happening to me. I'm tough and I don't show much pain at work or when i'm out, but at the same time, I don't want things to get worse.
Also, my job..
I am lucky to have a job, I guess. I've been working there for years, as a dedicated employee. (Food industry... -retch- ) I don't know.. Lately, even though I pretty much have seniority there, i'm being treated like a new employee. The bosses aren't all that big on compliments or being positive about much of anything, and almost every day i'm blamed for things that I have no fault of.
We are severely understaffed and have been for quite some time; to the point of only one person running a restaurant environment at any given time. This causes a great deal of stress and strain on me, because apparently, I can do everything at once. When any of us make mistakes, we are yelled at. I have requested that I have certain days off of work so that I can spend time with my family, who all live fairly close by, and my requests are always denied because of us being so understaffed. (I'm lucky enough to get vacation time off, but I only request those things maybe once or twice a year. I'll give them credit for giving me vacation time off.) I work all weekend and this week has been the hardest for me, working Thursday through Tuesday, straight. It is mentally straining to have to deal with people for that long. My friends who know me personally know that I am slightly a social reject, in the sense that I don't like talking to strangers, and i don't like dealing with people in general unless I know them. Lately i've been having to work in the front with people who lack patience and get ticked off if I look like i'm scared and don't want to be there. Last week my boss laughed at me and said "You look like someone's pointing a gun at you," referring to how I look when i'm up front on a busy night.
So I guess long story short, i'm one person doing five people's jobs at any given time.. Cooking, prepping, answering telephone calls, cleaning, and helping customers.. Being payed minimum wage.. Six days/night in a row. I guess i'm complaining so much now about it because of my wrist, as i'm almost always in pain at work. I found though that if I run really hot water over it, it'll make the pain dull. Is there such a thing as a waterproof wrist wrap? :/

The personal art for me is a means of practice, and brushing up on my own characters, as well as expressing feelings, or even to practice with emotions and colour. It is also nice because I do not need to throw any certain deadlines on myself.
I want to do this as much as I can before my classes start, even though it's really hard to find "self" time when I work all week, essentially.
Anyway, I'd like to ask my watchers questions because you guys are important to me. We're all connected through art, after all. :)
Should I:

General | Posted 14 years agoAugust is coming faster than anticipated, and this is when i'll be starting classes. So I will either close my commissions or raise the prices considerably, due to lack of time. (I wont be doing anymore trades, either, for that period) I'll be working and going to school and so to save myself from staying up all night I want to limit the art I make for others, simply because I don't want their art to take a millennium to produce. This is a lengthy translation of "If you want commissions, you better get 'em now." ;)
I'll even be willing to try anthro, if that's what you all want. Just giving everyone fair warning that i will be limiting this sort of thing starting in august. Thanks for understanding.
A NOTE ABOUT JELLYHOUNDS
I'm seriously considering making them a closed species, meaning not just anyone can create them as characters.
I have two reasons for this:
-People are getting payed loads for random dog and cat and bunny adoptables that aren't even original or drawn by them.
but more importantly,
-I want to keep track of the Jellyhounds being created.
It might be nice to do some adoptables, to see if anyone bites. if not, then I might make them free adoptables. But I want to know who is receiving them, who is using them, and more importantly, making sure i'm getting proper credit for them.
I have currently allowed two people to make themselves a JH character. I will allow one more person, but I want to see some art of these characters! I want to know their personality. So if you are interested, comment here and I will choose the final jellyhound owner before they become a closed species. (I expect art for your jellyhound character, so if you don't feel comfortable drawing them, please don't ask for one. )

I need some advice, guys. Does anyone know anything about hand/wrist injuries?
Years back I was severely attacked by a feral cat. It bit into my wrist a good seven or eight times, leaving me a bloody mess. Now being the amazingly smart person that I am; I didn't go to hospital. I am almost 100% sure there is some sort of nerve damage. My wrist used to hurt when it got cold out, but now it's sore almost all the time. Sometimes it is a dull pain, other times it is sharp and stabbing. I had an xray done and there is no bone damage, and I am contemplating on whether or not I should get some sort of scan. I mean, I know there is damage. Maybe it is a busted nerve or built up scar tissue.. I don't know. But with a scan I would know exactly what's wrong... right?
My question is.. For those of you who know about arm/wrist injury of any kind.. Are there ways to help ease pain without the use of medication? Hot versus cold compresses? Binding it with something? I'd appreciate any help for those of you who have experienced or know how to treat this sort of pain. :)
Also, i'm thinking about drastically changing my diet. I sometimes challenge myself to go without something for a month. It's like a monthly challenge to myself, to test my overall willpower. Now, i'm already vegetarian, but I have completed three challenges thus far: Going vegan for a month, staying away from processed food for a month, and quitting all caffeine cold turkey for a month.
I've been thinking about what to do. But i'm actually considering just drastically flipping my normal diet around. Although I don't eat fast food very often and stay away from most junk foods, i'm not really the healthiest eater. I sometimes will skip meals and for some reason I don't eat enough vegetables. I want to eat healthier and limit what I normally eat. I want to eat fresh stuff. It's going to be hard because my family is diverse and i'm a lover of breads, pastas and cheeses.. but I want to limit all of that. Maybe learn to be a better cook, I dunno.

Although I don't eat fast food very often and stay away from most junk foods, i'm not really the healthiest eater. I sometimes will skip meals and for some reason I don't eat enough vegetables. I want to eat healthier and limit what I normally eat. I want to eat fresh stuff. It's going to be hard because my family is diverse and i'm a lover of breads, pastas and cheeses.. but I want to limit all of that. Maybe learn to be a better cook, I dunno.
Character name help!
I'm still trying to come up with names for my characters! It's driving me a bit mental because i'd like to do more art of them and make badges and things in my spare time, but without a name it just feels... incomplete. You have to understand, these guys mean a lot to me. They were around before Icykat, and I want them to have more exposure in this community.

I just have to point out some very sweet people. I hope everyone else will take the time to check out their galleries. That's not asking much, is it? Sometimes I like going into a random gallery, picking out a nice piece that catches my eye, and commenting on what I like about it, adding a favourite if it's really interesting. I will also point out that I had a good birthday. I'm not your typical twenty-something who will go out and party and get wasted on their day of birth.. I went to a zoo/rescue, hung out at a river, chilled with my friends at my house, eating cookies and watching the news, and having a nice dinner with them and my mum included, because she's awesome.
All in all, an amazing day. <3 Thank you ALL for the birthday wishes; It's really nice of you all to have taken the time to type me somethin'. Big hearts for you all from the Ice cat.
