Adoption FAQ
...Why?
Jellyhounds are a unique species. Each adopt is carefully thought out and designed using specific colour schemes or references to other things, while remaining tasteful in appearance. Allowing people to make drastic changes to their Jellyhounds would confuse potential adopters and would force me to check all changes to make sure I don’t make duplicates in the future. To avoid the hassle, please don’t change designs. If you want a specific design, custom Jellyhounds are available for purchase, or maybe you could just watch the club and wait around for the right one to pop up. :)
Lots of markings!
Okay, I know.. Some Jellyhounds have multiple stripes and/or spots, and it can get confusing! I don’t expect you to remember every little speck or stripe line, this isn’t what I mean by “don’t change the markings”. You can simplify complex markings by adding less stripes or spots- All I expect is that the general marking placement doesn’t change.
Why no neon?
Well, first of all, the true neon colours tend to hurt your eyes. Secondly, unless a jellyhound lived hundreds of miles down at all times and glowed at will, what purpose would a neon colour serve on them? JHs are semi-sentient beings, and therefore they are aware of what they look like and what markings they possess. They don’t have a strict judgmental society like humans do, but they tend to take pride in their colours and markings, such as people admire tattoos and/or unblemished skin. For Jellyhounds, Natural colours tend to be more well accepted in a pack, while the bolder colours may signify a leader or a well protected member. Only exception to this rule would be using neon or brightly charged patterns to attract prey, but not as a base colour.
Donation FAQ
So I herd u liek donating.
Yes! I felt that if I make any sort of profit on these guys, I ought to donate to a cause that revolves around them in some way. Here’s how it works:
For every JH you adopt, 2.00USD goes toward a charity of my choosing.
Once 25USD is raised for a charity, I will donate it in bulk.
I will keep a goal sheet on the front page as well as keep track of how much money was donated.
So in other words, since every JH is 5$...
If ten people adopt a JH, $20 will have been earned toward a charity. It really adds up!
-There are very special cases that will be listed where once adopted, 100% of the proceeds will go toward a specific charity. These usually include JHs based off of endangered species, holidays, etc. Keep your eye out and know that once adopted, all of that money will go toward the cause!
-For every 30 Jellyhounds adopted, I will hold a contest where you will have the chance of picking up a custom JH free. I will also hold free drawings to earn free jellyhounds, or even to base some JHs off of a colour scheme of your choice.
Charity List:
-WWF
-The Marine Mammal Center

General JH FAQ
I thought Jellyhounds could change colours.
This isn’t always the case: In the wild, Jellyhounds are able to change their fur colour as well as any other colour except their eyes, but the full process can take anywhere from a few weeks to months, depending on complexity and skill level. It’s tentacles and the rubbery flesh over it’s back can change very quickly, almost instantly(think octopus), which can help avoid being spotted or scare off an intruder. The Jellyhounds that are adopted out do not change this way. They are a special class that has lost the ability to change colours. Let’s just say these were catch and release, and you can thank the government for messing with their genes a little and making them easier to track. ;)
Are Jellyhounds sparkledogs?
…Not unless sparkle dogs have tentacles and occasionally eat people. Of course they aren’t! Sparkledogs are incredibly unrealistic dogs who sport glowing, glittering colours and wear more articles of clothing than people do. It’s like an anthro trapped in a quad’s body. Jellyhounds, while occasionally having bright or “unrealistic” dog colours, are normally very colourful and unique due to sharing genetics with jellyfish and sea anemone. Their skin can react to environments allowing them to change colour and camouflage or stand out from their surroundings. They are normally born a single colour, and develop markings and colours soon after based on their heritage, or their own personality and life experiences. It is like a fingerprint on a human, to distinguish one from another. Fur colour change is very gradual and isn’t done often, but it is possible. Just no neons. :P
What about their markings?
For Jellyhounds, Markings are similar to traditional tattoos on humans. They are essentially used to identify, and learning the skills to shed and replace only small chunks of fur into a particular pattern is a rite of passage for many. While changing tentacle or “jelly” skin colour takes mere seconds, changing and maintaining fur colour takes much longer: sometimes weeks and sometimes months. The Jellyhound must form an image in it’s mind and sheds it’s fur in that specific pattern. The patterns may range from abstract to patterned, and even based on a specific theme or image they JH may have seen and admired. Generally the more intricate the pattern, the higher skill level of the jellyhound in question.
Tell me a little bit about temperment.
Jellyhounds are extremely social and inquisitive animals. they are getting a bad rep because they cannot control their bodies if they fast and grow extremely hungry. Their hunger turns into impulse, causing them to hunt for anything that resembles food. Occasionally htis means humans, and anything that eats humans gets a bad rep. Once fed, the Jellyhound returns to it's normal self. Tactics to avoid this hunger trigger would be to have said jellyhound learn it's limits of hunger, to have it hunt and remain fed without starving, etc. The Jellyhound can go for a few days without eating. The starving Jellyhound triggers it's survival tactic and viciously hunts for anything edible and until it has eaten, it remains in this zombie-like state. Otherwise, JHs may resemble wolves, african wild dogs, dolphins.. any social animal with it's own pack system. Self personality almost always varies from JH to JH, but they are all self aware.
