Posted 16 years agoLast Episode was released last night of Being Human. I quite enjoyed it.
There was just enough angst, drama, comedy, and romance to keep the whole thing flowing. Of course, I don't want to spoil it if any of my ceaseless ramblings inspires someone to watch it (which you can on the show's blog, even for USA), but the tie ins or "hooks" they put in for the second um... series? season? I'm not too sure the right word to use. 6 episodes is too short for an American season, and I really don't know the right lingo to use with a British show... anyways.. the next batch of episodes has quite the promising story.
Although honestly, if I had to deal with one more overly cliche' werewolf reference, I would scream. The first two were funny... by the end of the episode it was deadpan, almost.
I can't decide which of the three I came to love the most. Mitchel's story was the most driving, I think, but it climaxed mostly in the 5th episode and was still coming off the high in the 6th, but the story was so superb.... George's never really climaxed.. it was a nice sinusoidal curve of plot, until the last 15 minutes of the 6th episode, which was pretty amazing. Annie's story was pretty amazing in itself. I honestly didn't like Annie much for the first half, but her character was so carefully cultivated.
Anyways, I need food. Badly. Off to buy it.

Posted 16 years agoEpisode 5 (out of 6 NOOOO!!!) was released today.
Honestly I can't figure out why American TV has to be so awful. I watch an episode of Being Human, and its 55-57 minutes long from start to finish, no commercials. I go to watch Heroes, and its like more of the time i spent on commercials than you know, the series.
Unfortunately, there has been little focus on the werewolf as a werewolf of late. I mean, I would hate if they used the same transformation cut overandoverandover but, yeah. I mean, otherwise the series is superb. You really should watch it. Actually, if you read this post to this point, you should already be captivated by me, and thus will watch it, because I said so.
On that note, I got the lovely surprise of being able to watch the episode from the show's blog (via BBC) in the US. Of course, I'll still torrent a higher quality (imagine youtube low res) because the night-scenes and shadowing added such drama and was mostly pixelated out. One of the jerk-faces in the plot is monologue-ing about his jerk-faceocity and the pixel blur makes him have a unibrow :(.
But the writers have hinted strongly at a Series 2. ^_^ But on a more serious note, is a series in England like a season in America? Like how a normal show will run September to December, break for 6 weeks for the Holidays, then run February through May before breaking for the summer reruns, more or less. Because if I have to wait a whole other year I may loose what little scrap of lucidity I have left >< I can last to September... maybe. :0
On the artistic front, I tried to make stick figures with wolf ears. My friend asked me if they were flowers. D:

Its been a while, but Being Human (omg!)
Posted 17 years agoSo, I am alive. Although I doubt many people have been pining away for a journal update.
Anyways, I wanted to say thanks to the people with artistic talent for putting artisticky things up. Your talent and skills amuse me greatly, and have been rays of cancer-free sunshine on a otherwise perfectly fine dreary day. (Ask the cast of Pride of Life, I'm looking at you. <3)
Anyways, I just finished downloading Being Human S01E01. Yes, I know its being shown online at the BBC website, and yes, I know I can't watch it unless I mask my IP to pretend I'm British. I like tea, but I don't think it would count to that extent. It makes me quite sad that the pilot will no longer be considered cannon, as it had some excellent one liners in it. At least for the most part they preserved the plot very well. Unfortunate that only the werewolf has the same actor, but upon review the ghost and the vampire have admirable actors as well. While the pilot was much more comedy than drama, I think the new writing will give it more meat rather than a paranormal sit-com. As another critic said: "I've connected with and felt more empathy for the three main characters of Being Human in ONE episode than I have for the entire cast of some other series in an entire season." Its very unfortunate that I have to download each episode, and at the mercy of the soul who puts it on the web (Thank you, merciful soul.) but it will have to do for now. And oh-mi-gosh at next week's episode. It seems the first week put a lot of focus on ghosts and vampires, but it looks like E02 focuses on werewolf backstory! Wheee. Now on to the important stuff about it- While the transformation scene in EP01 wasn't the best thing since sliced bread, it was remarkable for a TV series. It was done awfully well, and puts the big-budget movies to shame.
(Actual Quality)/(Expected Quality) > 1 I hope the do more with it over time, and not use the same "convenient vantage point" every episode.
I secretly hope George gets more wolfy traits besides the "better sense of smell", as it would be kinda lame if he always gets his ass kicked by Laura all the time.
Paraphrased!
Annie: "George isn't it your time of the month?"
George: "..Yeah"
Annie: "God I'm so happy I don't have to deal with that, curled up on the couch with a water bottle and going to bite someone's head off if they talked to ... me.. oh.. well, I guess you do really bite people's ...heads off.."
George: "..."
