Blocking Tags is Nice
Posted 7 months agoI probably have accumulated "too many" artists on my watch list over the past decade+ to the point where I have several hundred submissions a day in my queue. The vast majority of them I never open -- the thumbnail simply doesn't draw my attention enough.
When they introduced tag blocking I didn't think it was going to help me but I was wrong. There are some things I just don't care for. Hyper bodyparts, vore, scat, few other things.
It's nice now when I see a blurred image in my feed, I can go look at that artist's gallery. If the vast majority of their work is blurred, and what isn't blurred does not vibe with me at all, I can clean them off my watch list and reduce the load.
Less things for me to go through means hopefully a higher frequency of viewing full arts and commissioning new folks.
I wish they would track how many times I view an artists' work, so in a year from now if I NEVER look at art from a particular artist that I watched, I can clean them off too.

RIP Dragoneer... and...
Posted a year agoNot much can be said and do enough justice to appreciate the impact Dragoneer had on the community with this site. I'd worked with him a couple times on a project years ago and aside from the regular FA juvenile backlash, I have never heard ill towards him.
May his energy continue.
....
and absolutely fuck the US medical system. I just read his last journal entries discussing his health issues and the criminal amount of time he had to wait for what was obviously something very serious. I was wondering what killed him. It wasn't whatever mystery was growing in his lungs -- it was our medical system.

Pic Pairings
Posted 5 years agoI have far too many boys that I have adopted - probably double or triple what I've posted in Scraps.
But that said -- if there are any that ARE in my Scraps and you have any ideas for them, solo, paired up, whatever -- send me some ideas. SFW or NSFW is fine, they don't mind.
You guys watch me for a reason, even though I don't draw. I do pay people to draw for me though.. and I love new ideas.

Nom Go Sleep
Posted 5 years agoJuly 2009 life was different. I wasn't quite so old. I had a bf.
One time when said bf was visiting, we went to a local pet store to get crickets or a new heat lamp bulb for the dragons or something - and saw a pitiful little albino garter snake in the reptile display. It was no thicker than a Q-Tip handle and maybe 8 inches long at most. It was sitting there, looking up at me all pathetic. Flicking its little tongue out asking me to rescue it from that shop. I then had a snake.
We spent more than a week trying to pick a name with a whiteboard full of options. I think the short list in the end was either String or Nom. We chose Nom from the way s/he ferociously tried to clamp down on food.
I can't say that Nom had a wonderful life - s/he did even less than the dragons. Slithered around the aquarium. Drank water or fished for minnows that we'd occasionally put in the water dish. Ate small baby mice. Slept a lot. I think. Snakes don't close their eyes. But I'd like to think life was good, by snek standards.
Information says common garter snakes live 4-5 years in the wild, and twice that in captivity. So for Nom to make it to 11 is good, I suppose. And Nom was not common -- s/he was an albino.
Go hang with the dragons, Nom -- we'll catch up later.

Last Call - Hiring a Web Designer
Posted 5 years agoSorry to any of my watchers that have read this more than once. This is my last call out before I just presume the audience here doesn't have the interest or know anyone 2nd hand that qualifies.
I'm looking for a web designer. Specifically one with talent to take boring tabular data and make it sexy.
Programming knowledge is not necessary outside of maybe HTML and CSS to bring an idea to life (versus a PSD mockup).
I am a web appplication programmer myself but I need new eyes and someone with enough fire in their belly to help me finish some projects over the summer.
Send me a note. Do not comment. That's a test.

RIP Brad
Posted 6 years ago20-some years ago, Brad McQuaid was a game director for a little company that produced a little MMORPG called EverQuest. He went on to have a hand in creating Vanguard, and the not-yet-released Pantheon.
Not everyone agreed with his "vision" but EQ is still going to this day, I still play it, and never really had anything bad to say about the man's decisions.
He apparently passed away today. The online worlds just got a little smaller.
RIP.

Skye Go Sleep
Posted 6 years agoHard to believe it's been seven months since one of my two bearded dragons (Dar) died. Her sister, Skye seemed healthy and continued the vigil of hanging out in their enclosure doing lizard things.
This week Skye wasn't doing so well - she had become impacted. Warm water soaking and patient massaging cleared that up for the most part but there must have been more wrong. This morning I found her in her final spot.
She lived to be 12. As I wrote for Dar, that's well beyond the "average" for fancy coloured dragons.
My household is reduced in number again, but reduced in beauty by a greater margin -- Skye was the orange dragon. Together with Dar (yellow) they were a pretty little citrus display of scales.
Sleep well, Skye. Go sit on Dar's back to steal the sun.

Rash of Arts Inc
Posted 6 years agoIt's March (my bday month) which means I splurge on arts. I've started keeping a list on my main page of stuff I'm waiting on, mostly because I am forgetful and if i have more than one or two outstanding works I might never check up on them.
Anyway.. hope those of you who watch me for the enjoyment will continue to get that enjoyment from the bits and pieces that I have coming up. Most of them are a mystery to me until I get it back from the artist as I rarely have any actual "ideas" for something specific, and artistic freedom can lead to many wonderful things.
That said -- if any of you have ideas for any of my boys (or combination of boys) that you would like to see, drop me a note. If I like the idea, it will happen -- provided I find an artist to do it, of course.

Dar Go Sleep
Posted 7 years agoMy 11yr old dragon, Dar, has taken her final nap. We got her and her sister (Skye) as little 3 inch hatchlings at a reptile convention in Tampa. They were supposedly from the same brood but Dar was yellow and Skye was orange -- both considered fancy colours by dragon standards. Regardless they've been inseparable ever since -- not that they had much choice in the matter.
They say dragons only live 8-10yrs in captivity, with the fancy ones averaging 5 because the breeders don't really care about health of the parents, just their genes. Some normal ones can reach 15 or so by luck. So for Dar to reach 11 I guess she did pretty well. Skye still seems healthy.
Dragons aren't like dogs or cats -- the two girls basically had a life of looking pretty in their 5 foot enclosure and were probably bored out of their little minds -- but still her passing makes me rather sad. Spending a decade with anything will do that, I suppose.
I wonder what Skye thinks.. if she cares at all. We ascribe emotions that some animals may not have the capacity to feel, and some science says they cannot think or feel this or that because their brain is too primitive. But really we have no way of knowing.
I figure one day after I'm gone myself, I'll meet up with the creatures I spent time with.. and we can ask each other things like that. Or maybe I'll find myself looking pretty in someone else's tank for a while until it's my time to nap.
Sleep well, Dar.

An Open Letter on Reminders
Posted 7 years agoHello artists.
FA policy "allows" you to post reminders on something you're selling every 4 hours. Usually that means you delete a reminder and post it up again.
Just because they allow it does not mean you should do it unless you want to run the risk of losing possibly paying customers from being unwatched. Perhaps you make enough money and don't need new business -- that's awesome and congratulations -- you can ignore this post and I wish you the best.
Here's some food for thought;
1. If I've seen the original posting in my submission list and decided I was not interested, then every time you post a reminder, you're putting it in my face again.
2. If you delete a reminder and repost it before I see it, it has moved from the top of my submission list down to the bottom because it is new again.
For the first, you risk annoyance.
For the second, you risk me not even seeing it because I may have 100s of submissions to go through and stop looking before I get down to your new post. But since I will have already seen the original (see #1) you again risk annoyance if I do see it.
I get why you do it.. you want people to see it on the front page for the 10 seconds that it will appear there. That's the only benefit I can see to constantly reposting a reminder image.
But how about this. Make a new account -- one that nobody will watch -- and post your spam reminders from that account. They will appear on the front page and that's that. From your main account you can delete and post reminder journals all you want because I have no way of knowing who wrote and deleted a journal. But posting reminder images constantly I will certainly notice and depending on how many you do and how often, I will re-evaluate whether I want to continue watching you.
I'm not saying don't do it at all -- I'm fine with maybe once a day. But if I get to where I'm having to remove your spam every time I look at my sub list.... nope. Into the bin you go, with all the best wishes I can muster, but none of my art budget.

I'm Not a Species
Posted 8 years agoSo apparently someone I used to watch until an hour ago, someone who attempted suicide in 2016 and I called the police to save them, someone who I have purchased adoptables and commissioned artwork from.... gosh that's a lot of qualifiers..
They have stolen my name.
They made a "new species" a month ago and called them Imunkai. But yesterday they changed the name to Imukai.
I asked them nicely to go back to using Imunkai because, well, this is my name and I'm the only Imukai on the internet. They refused, justifying it by saying someone used their name before and said it is a "coincidence" that they renamed the species to imukai. Bullshit.
I guess that's how kindness is repaid these days.
Karma is a bitch, people... keep that in mind.

PSA: Please Please Learn to Bid
Posted 9 years agoTwice in the last week I've lost YCHs because people don't follow proper auction manners. Out of curiosity I'll eventually return to the auction that I had the high bid on only to find someone else has won it. What the hell?
FOR THE BIDDERS: Always comment your bid in reply to the current high bid. The person get's notified and they have a chance to bid higher. This is only fair. Commenting elsewhere in the thread, or in reply to a lower bid is unfair because the high bidder is not notified.
FOR THE ARTIST: Moderate your auctions, please. If you see someone bid out of place, please ask them to bid in the proper spot and hide that unfair bid. You're only hurting yourself in the long run by getting less money for your work.
For everyone else, hope your year has been going well.

Steam / PC Gaming in General
Posted 9 years agoLooking for more people on Steam that aren't brats to play various games with.
If you have VR, all the better, but I don't mind sitting in my comfy chair either.
I like shooters, but I am more of the body than the shooter, if you know what I mean. Also RPGs and anything whimsical and fun. I'm terrible at RTS games too. So if you play anything with me, expect me to suck but I'm going to have fun anyway.. as long as you don't ridicule me.
Note me if you're interested, we'll go from there.

Words With Friends
Posted 9 years agoI don't get enough Scrabble in my life.
If you play Words With Friends, and will actually finish a game, my username is the same as here. Challenge me to a game?
But if your WWF username is obscure, please tell me who you are in chat.
Random opponents are annoying me by not playing, or resigning after 5 words.

Not that it matters... (Patreon rant)
Posted 9 years ago"The uncensored version of this pic is available as a Tier 2 reward on my Patreon! Click here! xD"
*clicks unwatch instead*
If Patreon is more important to you than actual commissioned work, that's fine - rock out with your cock out, babe. But I'm not paying you a stipend just to view a completed picture, and I'm not going to commission you because you've now annoyed me into removing you from my reality. I'm not judging you as an artist, but it seems a little whorish that you require people to pay to see a full piece when you're posting in a public gallery. It's nothing more than clickbait, an advertisement, and to me, an insult.
As I said, not that it matters.. I'm sure you'll have millions of supporters on Patreon, yeh? You don't need my money.

Not Complicated
Posted 9 years agoSo to follow up from my last journal, dad has been buried and I've had all sorts of alone time to think about his last years.
Mom died 11 years ago to colon cancer. Dad thought he had a couple years left but as far as he was concerned, he was ready at any time. His mate of 35 years was gone. Nature made him wait 11 years and torture him with a very slow end before he got his wish for his energy to rejoin hers.
So what isn't complicated? Happiness. Surround yourself with people that aren't negative to you. If they are negative, distance yourself.
After you surround yourself, appreciate them. Friends or family. Tell them you appreciate them. Make sure they feel it.
Find someone special to you. Love them. Tell them, often, that you do. Not jokingly, and don't assume they know. Reinforce the bond. If they tell you they love you, by the gods, echo it.
Your goodbye could be the last one you get with them in this lifetime, and waiting for the next might be awhile.

Fake Sympathy vs No Sympathy
Posted 9 years agoSo, dad passed Wednesday night.
It's been a very long battle with leukemia (CML). He was given 2 years to live back in 2004. He went into remission for years thanks to very expensive drugs, but they eventually made him sick so he stopped taking them. Last summer it finally started kicking his ass and he was given 3 weeks. It took 10 months for those 3 weeks to finally pass. He lost half his body weight, and his mind along the way. I got word yesterday morning while watching Law & Order.
I guess people react to this sort of stuff differently. I get a lot of "I'm sorry for your loss" but to me it's good that he finally isn't suffering anymore.
But what gets me are people that say it just to say it, or expressing concern for me without really feeling any love behind it, versus those that just outright ignore that I'm down. I don't know what's worse.
I'm pretty open about my feelings for others, and try to make sure they feel good about life, give them support or at least offer it if I think they need it. But reciprocation seems to be a hard sell.
Do I 'need' sympathy? Probably not. Do I need to feel loved? That's another matter.
The few that I know offer up real, genuine wishes of good feelings, I appreciate more than I can express.
But to the topic, I guess I'd rather have none vs fake... at least then I know where I stand.
I'll probably nuke this in a couple days, or if someone tells me it comes across as a whine.

Scrap Spam of Adopts
Posted 9 years agoSorry for the scrap spam, those of you watching me. I realized that I had quite a few adopts over the years that have never made it into my pile of references.
Also - if anyone wants to offer suggestions for names on any of them - or background - or foreground - I'm open to it.
Several of these guys I bought because their owners were in need of money (or I thought they had cute feet) (or both), so I really hadn't considered what I was going to DO with them once I had them.
The only adopts I've ever had extra art created from were the two sins, Wrath and Envy - and even they need more attention than this.

So.. Second Life
Posted 9 years agoPast several months.. years.. I've found my time in Second Life is mostly just wandering around by myself. Most of the grid is empty. Most of my friends haven't logged in for a year or four. I thought about joining another RP sim but really.. no. If I RP I prefer to be it unconstrained to any one sim.
So.. if anyone is bored and would like to talk to a satyr - or a woodelf - drop me a line here or in SL. Can wander around, build stuff, RP, whatever. I don't really do SL sex anymore, but I am a chronic cuddler. Male or female, seme or uke, it's all good.
Anyone watching me that would read this should already know them but:
Satyr: Torukai (torukai draegonne)
Woodelf: Lochlyn (lochlyn dragonash) (never breaks character)
And I'm mostly active on weekends.

Hello new watchers
Posted 13 years agoI presume over the next few weeks I'll be getting a few new watchers as I upload my satyr stuff.
I try to make it clear in the pics that I did not draw them, so hopefully you go watch the artist that did and maybe consider hiring them to do some stuff for you as well.
Regardless, I thank you in advance for watching me, even if it's only to see the stuff that I get done for me. =)
hugs to all.
