The ghost of Paul Lynde strikes again...
Posted 2 years agoI was watching a compilation of Paul Lynde zingers on hollywood squares from the 70s.
The phone rang....Caller ID told me it was about 90% likely to be a telemarketer.
So I picked it up and said in my best Paul impression voice "This is the ghost of Paul Lynde, and you have interrupted my hand job. "
"What do you have to say for yourself, you muppet?"
There was a kind of strangled sound from the phone and then it was hung up quickly.
Ahh..
Sometimes its good to be da king.
Bet the phone scammer had no idea who Paul Lynde even was.

Back from eye surgery-short update.
Posted 2 years agoWell, I now have an artificial lens in my left eye.
The surgery was easy.
I am half unconcious still from the anaesthesia.
my speling and typing are worse than usual.
And OMG is it BRIGHT outside!
Don't piss me off, or I shall incinerate you with the laser from ym bioinc eye....

Josh Quagmire has passed away.
Posted 2 years agoJust found this out.
The name may not mean anything to younger furries, but Josh was the first artist I ever discovered in the early 80s... years before furry fandom was born.
His best known creation was Cutie Bunny.
He was the first artist to give me advice in how to draw.
"Learn to draw what you see, not what you assume".
"Learn to be a good observer."
I still remember this advice, and still value it.
Dammit....
I was going to try to make contact with him again.
But he could be grumpy, and he could be hard to talk to.
And so I kept putting it off, figuring theres always tomorrow.
And now its too late.

So sore right now.
Posted 2 years agoI finally managed to summon the energy to finish shaping an oversized RBG pistol last night.
It needs to be sanded next.
But I think I may wait till tomorrow to do that and recover a while.
Just a little worn out at the moment.
The krag project is proceeding as well.
Since I can get a brand new, match grade barrel from Criterion for a bit over $200 through the Civilian Marksmanship Program's pro shop, I may very well go that route.
Used barrels have been popping up here and there, but usually a bit crunchy in the bore.
More worn that makes any sense for me to use if I am building a new rifle from carefully selected original parts.
I may never do a regional shooting match.
But if I do, this krag will likely be my rifle of choice.
Might as well do as good a job as possible building it up.

Well....I thought I was done with WoW
Posted 2 years agoBut a certain white furred little Vulpera warlock has captured my attention.
I don't play like I used to.
I may go days without logging in, and maybe spend an hour or two questing or doing LFG dungeons.
I'm barely in the game these days, and frankly if Blizzard hadn't put in playable Vulpera, I probably would be out completely.
I am seeing that the little yappy foxes are pretty popular on my server.
At least one in 10 players I run across is playing one.
I'll have to see if I can do screen grabs and post an image or two.

Manga studio shenanigans...
Posted 2 years agoSo I have a copy of manga studio 5.5 that i bought about two computers ago...
It worked fine when I first installed it.
Then it started refusing to open.
I figured an uninstall and reinstall would probably fix it.
And then I got busy and forgot about it.
Months later I clicked on it, just for the hell of it.
And it opened just fine and seems to be working perfectly.
What the hell?
I am currently busy on other things, so I cannot make time to play with it for the moment.
But I guess I can use it again?
We'll see.
I have a buttload of unfinished sketches lying around that I need to do something with.

Why I love the Skyraider
Posted 2 years agoNo surgery today...Eyeball poking was involved.
Posted 3 years agoOkay, I misunderstood the procedure, and no actual surgery was performed today.
Instead, they put shit in my eyes and poked them...For science.
Theres another appointment to size my eyeball, and the actual surgery is now pushed back to February.
And I'll be able to do things again...after the dilator drops wear off, and I can see in normal light again.

Posted 3 years agoI'll be going in for cataract surgery in November.
I've been blind in my left eye for a while.
And my good eye has been getting worse over time.
Far as I know, its just old age catching up with me, but its scary.
So this needs to be done.
Don't expect much from me until some time in late December or later.
I'll let everyone know how it goes.

The Mandalorian-fans react
Posted 3 years agoIts no secret that I am a Star Wars fan.
It came out when I was a young teenager, and I saw it over and over again in the theater.
Many years later, I got a kit and built myself stormtrooper armor.
I was the first to wear trooper armor to a furry con.
I hate what was done in the sequel trilogy.
Kathleen Kennedy has done her best to destroy Luke Skywalker.
But Favreau and Feloni saved Star Wars with the Mandalorian.
I am not the only die hard fan out there...
Watch the reactions of fans to the last episode of season 2..The Rescue.
This genuinely brought tears to my eyes.

I got my copy of Manga studio on this computer, finally.
Posted 3 years agoI bought a copy of manga studio 5 many years ago, at Fries electronics.
I had it on an earlier laptop, but never bothered to try to install it on my current one, because I thought it wouldn't be compatible.
Then I found the box again last week.
Recently, I found that I could install programs for windows 7 on my windows 10 machine.
So I thought- what the hell?
If it fails, I lose nothing anyway.
But it installed with only one hiccup, and now works just fine.
A numeral I thought was a capitol "O" in the license code was actually a zero...
Fixed that, and it accepted the code after a few minutes of frustration.
So, now I have an updated image processing software, and once I figure out where to put the scanner someone gave me a little while ago, I can start learning to use this thing for art...
I hope.
The scanner is a large bed unit, and because of the cramped condo, there is very little horizontal space to put things down.
And this needs to be on a level surface.
I forsee complicated apartment jenga in my future.

Still alive
Posted 3 years agoI'm still here.
Been really busy lately, doing crafts.
I've done very little sketching not related directly to business, so theres really nothing to post at the moment.
I really should start drawing from references again, just to keep my skills current..But theres not much energy these days to pour into drawing.
I need inspiration.
The fanzines are all but gone these days.
And they were my inspiration for many years.
I am hoping to start going to furry cons again at some point.
I've been unwilling due to the plague.
But thats fading away now.
Maybe.
I'd like to get out more.

Suddenly realizing how much crap I'll have to move...
Posted 3 years agoKen will be retiring in a few years, and we'll be looking at property in Arizona.
I was struck today by how much in the way of tools and materials I'll have to move when that time comes.
Theres easily a ton or more of tools, materials and various bits and pieces.
So I've started buying plastic totes to store loose bits and clothing in.
Totes just seem to be more practical than a dresser or other furniture.
.
We're still talking 2 to 5 years away.
But starting early will make it easier... I think?
At least I'll be getting my shit organized for the first time in at least 30 years.

WoW will let you play DRAGONS in new Expac!!
Posted 3 years agoBlizzard's next expansion pack will be Dragonflight.
And we will get to play an anthro dragon class/race.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIG6XdzThTQ
I am feeling excited about the game for the first time in years.
Expac after expac, blizz has recycled the same boring, depressing shit that I have waded through, hoping things would get better.
Demons...Undead...booger monsters from uranus...nothing really felt new or interesting.
But I kept buying the expacs and playing, mostly out of habit, and for a way to kill time when doing other things.
Now I feel enthusiasm again!
Its been a long time coming.
Blizz?
Don't fuck it up.

A sandbox MMO for furries?
Posted 3 years agoWell, not specifically for furries- but it has a LOT of choices for character creation.
Chimeraland.
Its from asia- probably either Chinese or Korean.
Heres a sample video-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TopR296kHLs
I only just now found out about this, and there are numerous video reviews calling it complete shit.
Those are hard core gamers though..And the game looks like its made for casual gamers who don't have the time to invest in a hard core grinder.
So be warned.
On the other hand, it apparently lets you do just about anything, and its nearly impossible to die.
The graphics look okay, if a bit dated by first world gaming standards.
I may check it out later, when I actually have a little time.
For now, I'm going to be too busy for at least the next two weeks.

My father has passed away.
Posted 3 years agoMy sister called me a few minutes ago.
Apparently, my father died last week.
I am a little conflicted.
He never gave a damn about me.
He was abusive, lied to me all the time and stole from me without a trace of shame or guilt.
It took me years to understand that he was intensely jealous of me, and hated me.
Now hes gone.
I had the last conversation I ever wanted to have with him in the 90s.
I just feel tired about it all now.
I won't be going up for the funeral.
I was done with him a long time ago.
But somehow I feel like something is left undone.
He would never have said he was sorry to me for all the pain he inflicted.
I know that.
But that bastard owed me an apology.
He owed me money as well...But I knew a long time ago he would never keep any promises he made to me.
its done, finally.

The ballad of Buster Scruggs....
Posted 3 years agoThis is one of the blackest dark comedy movies I have ever seen.
Its a netflix original, I think?
I have only watched clips from it so far.
Its an anthology movie- a bunch of old west stories that are not connected to one another.
I recognized one of them- "Valley of gold" from a story I read as a kid.
Its actually written by Jack London, and was a favorite of mine that I found after reading Call of the wild and White fang.
The first story, about Buster Scruggs, is one of the best satires of the "singing cowboy" genre I have ever seen.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXna1a-806Q
I should mention I hate singing cowboy movies....

Reluctantly, I am passing on golden state furcon this yea...
Posted 3 years agoI've been thinking hard on this for weeks.
But with the question of more covid outbreaks in socal, I'm thinking its just wiser for me to pass on another year for furry cons and wait till things are less confused.
Theres just so much conflicting info that I no longer know what to think about the covid thing.
Its just getting really demoralizing.
I might take a risk and go for one day...But I'll probably pass entirely this time.
I am getting so tired of this plague shit.

Moping about.
Posted 3 years agoStill can't seem to draw anything, and being sick a lot.
Got some kind of lingering bug that stuffs up my nose and leave me really tired all the time.
I have discovered I can do technical drawing of parts, and whole guns I need to make.
That kind of art seems easy now.
Not struggling with it.
Doesn't feel forced.
I am actually enjoying drawing parts and tracing masters for RBG stocks.
So its progress.
I've been sketching female bodies, here and there.
But I never seem to finish a drawing.
Someone has asked me if I have a Patreon account, and I have to admit that I do not.
I no longer have a scanner that works, so even if I started drawing enough to make content I could upload to patreon, I have no way to transfer it digitally other than to take a picture with my old and shitty digital camera and make a really shitty transfer image.
I really need to get some kind of scanner- but locally theres nothing but fairly expensive printer/scanners that have surprisingly low image quality.
I'm reluctant to put new art behind a paywall, but that seems to be the current trend.
And with no easy way to sell originals anymore with furbid and furbuy gone, the only practical way I can see for me to make money off of furry art anymore is patreon.
If I do that, the question becomes whether or not I could produce enough content to keep up with the demand.
This is all assuming I can get enough inspiration and drive to start drawing again.
