Flying! it’s a looong drive from here.

Pretty easy to spot if I am wearing my digi legs, otherwise I will be running around as a Red Deer

Rollercoaster year
Posted 10 years agoI knew this was coming, saw it for years, lot of big changes happening, sure haven't made things any easier on myself going to Astral Harvest, Anthrocon, Burning Man and RF. Life has sure been a hectic rollercoaster the last few months. Tomorrow I move out of the place I have called home since I was brought into this world, trying my best to be pragmatic about it, still hard to say goodbye. Things will move forward, best I can do is try and keep it on the rails *g* I'm sorry if I have been dropping a lot of balls lately, I can only catch so many at the same time. Things should settle down early in the new year.
Burning Man this year was... Dusty. It was a new experience sharing the adventure with someone, made the roadtrip less solitary and the bed a bit warmer ;) It was also unusually dusty and cold at night, but despite the bugpocalypse that the media portrayed I only saw a couple beetles while packing up camp.
So much happened out there in that frenzied, dusty, vibrantly maniacal city. I met tons of amazing people and had a great time rolling around in the dust. My inaugural public showing of my new deer suit was at burning man and it was a blast! Had a good time meeting Varka, Evalion, Hirobo and Vendra and a bunch of other furs from Dragonf*ckers. The larger Chalet trailer that I had this year preformed admirably, was nice to have a personal heated shower! The Furry kuddle cave that
asunyra set up was fantastic, wish I had spent more time there. So many stories that have to stay in Black Rock :3 Thanks to 
kenket for the fursuit lounge art. The trip as a whole went off without much of a hitch except having my bike stolen in Reno after the event.
RF this year was... a flummoxed trainwreck, despite that on the balance I still think I had a good time, not entirely sure, still processing. Lots of highlights but the timing of the whole event seemed... off, at least to me. The con started with me already exhausted, I missed a lot of things I wanted to be at, missed people I wanted to see, had a falling out with someone because I couldn't dedicate the time for them they wanted. The parade was fun and the dances were great, nothing too terrible happened so I guess that goes in the positive column.
May seem odd but one of the highlights of the con for me was after losing our room for Sunday night (my fault, should have double checked the booking dates, but I always book through to Monday) The hotel pretty much booted us out of the room, no chance of extending our stay. We had to pack up and move very quickly, a big thanks to
snicks and 
lonetiggs for helping with the move. We got our stuff into a room nearby were there was a chill room party with locals. We all figured out who could room with who and ordered a pizza. My happiest moment at the con was seeing how my friends without reservation or hesitation stepped in to help, that really meant a lot to me. Special thanks to 
alexihusky for letting QB and I crash at his room for the last night.

Posted 10 years agoWhew Anthrocon 2015 was a blast! I had a really amazing time. I must be getting better at cons, met most of the people I wanted to meet, saw the panels I wanted to see, danced every night, attended various room parties and no con crud either, ya!.
The first day I picked up my “business” cards, I whipped up a quick design two days before the con and had them delivered to the hotel, I can highly recommend moo.com if you need business cards quick! I also got Rukis the 16 Red Lantern collars, I am very happy that every single one sold! Con Reg was pretty smooth, pre reg FTW!
One of the highlights of the con for me was during the fursuit parade, walking out from the underpass stepping into the sunlight and seeing 5,000 people cheering, it felt incredible. I got back to the main staging area before the last line had left so I joined a tiger and did the whole parade again. Then I went on the parade path a third time after it had ended to mingle with the people outside for a bit. I only stopped when this little boy I gave a hug to looked up at me and in the cutest curious voice asked “why are you so wet”? Errr time to head back to the room now, I was starting to get hot, it had been nearly three hours and the ice in the cooling pack had run out.
Speaking of, I got to give the cooling vest a really good run and must say I am impressed. I have the backpack type where it pumps ice water around tubes in a vest. It would last between 2.5 and 3hr before the ice was gone, would last longer with block ice or frozen ice packs. The pump was very quiet and the battery lasted for at least 6hr. Sometimes I would actually get cold, so I would just shut off the pump for a few min. The suit was loose enough that I could fit the backpack underneath, only one person actually noticed the back hump, Rukis ;)
I didn’t finish the V4 digi legs in time but was successful running around on the old V3’s for a good part of Sunday. Still want to improve and try a couple more things but getting close with this version. They were pretty comfortable and needed no adjustments after several hours of walking.
Also thanks to
jaketiggy for letting me borrow a suit for the con, I was only mistaken twice for Jake Being able to suit at the con was so much fun! Plus there was a chill tiger gathering in KP’s room Sunday night :3
My flight out was delayed so I hung around the Westin lobby for several hours. It was actually very nice to say goodbye to many of the people I hung out with at the con.
The city and surrounding feel like an expansion of the con space, all the bars and restaurants are super furry friendly.
Pretty much the only low point had nothing to do with the con, I was coming back across the border and was picked for a second screening. Basically I was delayed another 45 min as a security guard pulled *everything* out of my luggage and went through all the photos on my camera as well as forcing me to unlock my phone so they could read all my text messages, chat’s and pictures. Felt pretty violated and not in the good way. Still everything else about the trip was so great, I try not to let it bother me.

MWFF 2014

So this was my first MWFF, the trip down was pretty smooth and uneventful; border security didn’t even bother to ask me any questions, not much happening at 4AM I guess. I had a nice pre-con evening with jaketiggy and lone_tiggs ate some good mexican food and left at 4AM to catch a plane direct to Chicago.
Lots of furs in the O’Hare airport, pretty short (and free!) shuttle ride to the Hyatt Regency. Already a bunch of fursuiters running around, first fursuit hug within a minute of entering the lobby ^.^
I spent a good part of Thursday talking with semi local fur
QB89Dragon and hanging around the lobby. Got up to the room/suite at around 4PM, ate dinner and went to registration that night, pretty quick and well organized. Met 
artie and was able to give him a key tag I made.
Friday: Up at 9AM, dealers den (Bad Dragon! Yah), meeting new furs and old. Took the digi legs out for a walk around the lobby, very fun. The V3 legs are quite comfy, best ones yet. New foot design makes balancing in one spot easier than ever.
Was able to meet Paradox
Ctcwired and 
freezframe on my way to a panel, they were hanging out in the sponsor lounge at the time.
So Saturday night was interesting to say the least. Full moon, 4,600+ Furries, crazy room parties and a chlorine attack that evacuated the hotel.
Saturday started like this: I almost slept in past the fursuit parade, woke up at 12. Heading down for food out of 7 people in the elevator I was the only one not in full fursuit. Realizing the parade was happening soon I ran back to the room to grab my gopro. I set up and got video of the whole parade. Was in the lobby when someone threw $1 bills off the balcony during the parade (makin’ it rain!)
The parade went on for a little under an hour, over 1100 fursuits, longest parade I have seen personally. Lots of furry shenanigans during the parade.
After the parade I got noms at the hotel and took a walk to the mall nearby with Darthbear. I wasn’t really expecting to walk around a mall with a tail and furry hood, but it was fine.
Made it back to watch “Too much light makes the baby go blind” a group that does 30 skits in 60 minutes in order chosen by the crowd. There were some great skits and there was the marshmallow skit, yeah anyone there would remember…
After that headed back to the room, the drinking began. I grabbed my bottle of Sake and took some other stuff, figured Saturday night would be a good night to try. Things started to get hard to keep track of after that, good thing I took a lot of pictures.
I joined a travelling room party that visited us including
vignette we roamed to a few room parties and ended up on the 9th floor where I met Lacy and Nick from fursuiting.com. I got a tasty green drink mixed by 
lupinesilvertail a group was playing beer pong, most were just in groups talking and drinking. I left the party to head to the dance but decided to swing by 
spottacus room (10th floor took the East staircase ) to see if anything was going on. Room sounded quiet so I started walking back towards the elevator, I took a picture of the lobby (time 12:27AM) and started to head to the elevator. That’s when I saw 
amenophis walk into the room party I just left. I took the South staircase down and met him there.
Only a few minutes later we started getting scattered calls that the police were in the building at about 12:45. They came up to the room and told us to evacuate just after 1AM. We took the South stairwell. I ran into Tirrel
cerberus on the way down. We exited on the second floor and took the main lobby exit outside. Also saw Kage 
kagemushi heading in to the lobby as I followed the crowd out.
amenophis and I walked to a clear area where we ran into kenket wandered a bit more and ran into 
axiowolf doing a live to youtube broadcast of the evacuation.
Since it was about -3C (26.6F) people started getting chilly, they opened up the Donald E. Stephens Convention center where there was a dog show happening. The show was over for the night but the kennels and some dogs were still there. Spotted
purpleqgr in the hall and said hi.
Kept crossing paths with
foxquakes, A drum circle happened, a lot of furs in suit, people sleeping on the floor. I kept wandering the hall, met 
foxalbiazul, sat on some crates with jaketiggy and just before they started to clear out the hall I met 
fayroe near the exit.
All the while amenophis stuck with me, it was very nice to have someone to share the whole crazy experience with, Thanks Amenophis!
Just before 4AM they started clearing out the convention hall and opening up the Hyatt again. I made it back to the room around 4:40AM right after finishing my bottle of Sake.
Finally got to bed around 5:15AM slept in till 1PM.
For Sunday I took the legs out for a walk around the dealers den, had a good talk with
ezwolf and drama lamma. 
fritter also tried the digi legs out in suit, he was up and walking around pretty quick, even without wearing shoes in the stilts. Watched the closing ceremonies and went to Fogo De Chao, and settled into a nice meat coma for the evening.
All in all though I think MWFF has displaced RF as my favorite con, although I still plan to do RF.

RF, Halloween and MFF prep
Posted 11 years agoWhew, it's been a busy few weeks. Just a quick update on things.
RF was a blast! getting to know a lot of furs there now, I went from knowing basically no one to being overwhelmed in short order. Got to fursuit for a bit there too, was as much fun as I imagined ^.^
After RF I just about had my bike stolen, the guy was hauling it beside his bike down our driveway when I noticed. I shouted so loud my voice hurt for the next couple days. He dropped my bike and took off, I hopped on my bike and chased him for a few minuets but eventually lost him. Probably good for him and me I didn't catch him... Coincidentally it was the bike I bought to replace the one stolen at burning man. Going to lock it up everywhere, even while it's in my own shop.
Spent Halloween hanging out with local furs, going to dance clubs and house parties, fun weekend.
Now MFF is quickly approaching. I hope to have a bunch of things done including the new version of the digi legs.

Back from the Burn
Posted 11 years agoAaaand back! The last two weeks have sure been an adventure. The drive down was smooth, border crossing fast and pretty much trouble free trip down into Nevada, besides raining almost the entire way. First entry traffic I hit was 50km from Gerlach (nearest small town to Burning Man) took about six and a half hours from there to reach camp FUR. Neat part about this year was that the gate opened at 10am on Sunday rather than midnight, basically giving almost a whole extra day.
Camp setup was quick, first night was blissful, rode around a little to get bearings and see what was around us. Went to bed and woke up to the sound of rain… not something you want to hear out there. Rain basically shuts down the city, even 4WD vehicle’s get stuck, the thunder was epically loud. I was very fortunate to have already arrived and set up camp, nice cozy little rain proof den. After the heaviest rain had stopped I got out and walked around for a bit, Black Rock City was nearly empty, surreal to see it like that. It wasn’t long before people beside us were doing naked mudslides down the street. Things dried up pretty fast and by nightfall it was hard to tell it had even rained that morning.
I had a tail on pretty much the whole week, was fun burrowing into the ball pit with only my furry tail showing, someone grabbed it thinking it was a stuffed animal at one point :3 It got some attention early in the week, by the end though it was far from the strangest thing people were wearing.
The projector setup worked out pretty well, there were a few nights where burners walking the esplanade got to see some furry art (some naughty, some clean), I should bring a big paw stamp next year to stamp anyone watching for more than 5 minuets =3
Many shenanigans, drinks and dancing a group of 22 furs set out on a walkabout and had adventures all night. We would howl like wolves to bring the pack together, the glowing purple staff I was carrying probably helped too. The Mayan sound car, the amazing zoetrope, the furry takeover of the totem pole. I think my highlight was that enhanced group experience, good times all ;)
So very much more I would like to write but alas it is late and I am tired but no time to rest, I’m off to the Calgary Maker Faire tomorrow morning.
One other note: best. exodus. ever. Was prepared for a 6 hour wait to get out, wait time was almost zero, left camp and drove to Reno only stopping for less than 5 minutes total.

Burning Man Trip
Posted 11 years agoHeading out to Burning Man! Going to road trip down there solo, three day drive. I like the trip down, head bobbing to Crazy by Gnarls Barkley while cruising down the highway with the windows rolled down watching the desert landscape go by. Taking the bike off the trailer to tour some quaint little town and enjoy the fresh air. All the interesting people and places on the way down, I would miss if I flew.
Looking forward to seeing the fantastic works of art, meeting the awesome people behind them and all whilst hanging out with fellow furs.

Packed last two weeks
Posted 11 years agoThe last couple weeks has been pretty packed full. Maker Faire was quite interesting, I was at the maker party before the event and had waay too much of the free beer and paiaya, plus at least four cupcakes, they just kept coming with more cupcakes, the never ending cupcakes. Tha OMG WTF... I just heard a horrible noise and had to break up a fight between my cat and a fox. Both are fine but I haven't seen Cobalts tail get that huge in a long time. Usually the foxes are fine with the cat but they are here with a new litter of kits. Anyways, That party was the start of a fun few days and a whole lot of socializing. I got to tour the Autodesk facility in San Francisco, it was gorgeous, pretty much my dream lab, 5 axis waterjet, top of the line 3D printers, high end CNC machines, ect.
Rather than getting hotel rooms our group rented out a house in Palo Alto and it was a total party house, it had 3 bars (that we put to good use) and a giant backyard garden. The plan is to rent out the house again for next year. I also hope to spend an extra few days in San Francisco.
I met up with
zarafa and he told me about a furbowl meetup that night. I actually managed to make it, although I didn't bowl I had some great talks with some of the bay area furs. The next day I met with 
helvetica and we chatted about the digi legs, it was really nice to meet and talk for a bit.
The drive there and back was thankfully uneventful, three days down and three days back. There is a really cool army surplus store in Idaho, Montana is very scenic and most of Nevada is :P
One day after I got back home I hopped on a plane to Chicago to spend some quality time with DaveQat. We toured around Chicago and attended IML. That has to be one of the most blatant cons I have ever been to, and I have been to burning man several times! wow. I also picked up several pounds of fun in leather form =3
Now I really need to hunker down and get some work done. Have 10 collars to finish for AC (although I won't be there this year) and a pile of other projects.

Posted 11 years agoTomorrow I leave on a road trip to Maker Faire in San Mateo, I got to be the designated project hauler, ie. I get to drive everyone else's stuff down there, while they fly :P
Should be an interesting albeit, long drive. Hope I can see some of my furry burner friends while I am in California :)

Even though the hotel was a bit less than ideal I still had a great time, it's not the facility but rather the people that make a great con. The con staff did a fantastic job, thanks go to Thallanor and Fallout and all the volunteers. I really enjoyed the Poutine social, druken fursuit panel, dances and the GOH dinner food was top notch. I think I danced more at this con than all others combined, being in suit helped a lot =3
Getting to know lots of fellow furs, it's starting to feel like a close community or no, more like a family. I'm getting a bit of PCD just thinking of you all.
I spent a good amount of the con trying to balance between panels, fursuiting, social events, dances and when I could find the time sleep :)
Being the first con I actually suited in I learned a few things, I don't overheat as easily as I thought I would, I understand sight limitations much better now and suiting is as much fun as I imagined.
It's also very odd being talked about in the third person while standing right there, kinda fun when people assume you are someone else.
I think that's it for fur cons till Rainfurrest, not including Burning Man.

Computer Issues...
Posted 11 years agoLost most of the weekend due to computer issues. I built this system back in spring of 2011 and it has been pretty much rock solid till about a month ago when I started getting random blue screens. Narrowed the problem down to the video card and figured I would just drop by memory express (great computer chain, I remember when they were just a small hole in the wall in Calgary years ago). Went there today and picked up a snazzy Asus GTX780, 512GB SSD, new mouse and a foot rest :) drove back and installed new video card aaaand nothing. black screen on boot, problem wasn't with the video card, problem is with the PCIe port on the motherboard! (Gigabyte GA-X79-UD5 if you wanna know) so I tried my old HD7970 in the other PCIe port and so far so good! Grudgingly have to return the GTX780, I would rather the $$ in my account rather than a few extra FPS -.-
Not looking forward to when the other PCIe port dies and I have to replace the mobo, that's a PITA :p

Vancoufur 2014
Posted 11 years agoWell the last week has been interesting :) I had a great time at Vancoufur this year lots parties, friends and shenanigans to be had. The Van De Graaff worked perfectly, got some long haired fursuiters to volunteer for an electro fluffing :) The new version of the legs also worked out well, various furs that tried them had a much easier time getting up and walking vs the older pair, but still lots of improvements to make.
A few extra days after the con with
scribblefox and crew were fun and productive, good feedback on the legs and the tour around Vancouver was quite entertaining. Glad I had a couple days there to recoup from the head cold, sucks not being able to really speak :p
The trip down was uneventful, clean dry roads and blue sky. BC really didn't want me to leave though, avalanches, heavy rain, deer and a truck on fire (seriously) were some obstacles. Thankfully we made it home unscathed. Speaking of I had a fox companion with me this trip down and two foxes in the room =3 Although I didn't talk much I enjoyed your company :)
Now back to work on a bunch of projects!

General drunk update
Posted 11 years agoYeesh barely started this bottle of sake and I am pretty drunk :p The half bottle of white wine was a nice warmup. Junmai Ginjo from Granville Island, not bad but the stuff I had in Japan was better...
Happy Valentines! well it was actually over here 15 minuets ago, wish I had someone to howl at the full moon with.
Anyway I have come up with a couple methods for *sip* building a magnetically latching collar. I plan to build them as a bracelet first to save material. I do need to order some specific sized magnets first as well as spring wire to built my own springs from.
One of the latches keeps the Z seam from the red lantern comic the other will form kind of a "T", will picture the prototypes once done. *sip*
Haven't had as much time as I would like to work on the second gen legs, mostly want to have new feet done for Vancoufur. *sip* Had a few ideas to try out too, a lower profile mount for the steel cable, an adjustable toe ramp and more comfortable thigh section.
Glad this underlines spelling mistakes so as I can fix em, making a lot right now, about a 7 of 10 on the drunk scale now... Pretty boring drunk I just get clumsy an zone out.
Done the design for Amon's earring, will probably try milling one out early next week to see the physical weight and feel. Probably going to try a pin post for mounting, I don't have pierced ears, not sure who I can get to test one out for comfort, need to get a quote on gold plating too.

Haven't had as much time as I would like to work on the second gen legs, mostly want to have new feet done for Vancoufur. *sip* Had a few ideas to try out too, a lower profile mount for the steel cable, an adjustable toe ramp and more comfortable thigh section.
Glad this underlines spelling mistakes so as I can fix em, making a lot right now, about a 7 of 10 on the drunk scale now... Pretty boring drunk I just get clumsy an zone out.
Done the design for Amon's earring, will probably try milling one out early next week to see the physical weight and feel. Probably going to try a pin post for mounting, I don't have pierced ears, not sure who I can get to test one out for comfort, need to get a quote on gold plating too.

Lesee what else.. Had to miss a furry get together in Jasper due to work involving a styrofoam marmot and an electronic tie.. My work is interesting.
Just watching Flinters draw on Tigerdile, he showed off the keychain I gave him at FC :) aand now we are chatting about welding...

Posted 11 years agoThat happened quicker than I expected. Interesting that my followers and number of comments are almost the same. I lucked out and managed a screenshot of the 1000th page view. Heh it's the little things.
Still on an oxytocin high from the con, just getting sorted out and cleaning up the lab. I left it in a bit of a mess before I left.
I don't have much time to work on revisions on the legs before Vancoufur, also want to try some improvements on the Van De Graaff.

Posted 11 years agoWow, So Further Confusion was great, very much a con of firsts for me. First time at FC, first time meeting Uncle Kage, first time selling stuff at a con and first time with a whole lot of kinky stuff I won't get into detail on here =3
FC was a hotspot for meeting some of my favourite artists, Rukis, Sidian, Shinigami, Flinters, Jace, Skadjer and many others.
Pretty much a positive experience on the whole, the only negative was the water shutting down at the Hilton for a few hours but really that's a minor complaint, I was slightly dishelved without my morning shower, oh well.
The collars were a hit, I got many comments and compliments. I want to experiment with a few things, then I will be making more.
The digi legs also worked out well, they developed a small squeak after about two hours of running around. I added a bit of lube that night and seems to have taken care of that issue. Not as many people got to try them on at this con but I was pretty busy with other things. I got to have a bit of a chat with Helvetica 'Foofers' about my designs vs the WETA ones, apparently mine are about half the weight and much better thought out, whooo!
Will be posting pictures of the event soon, will limit myself to 5, so as not to flood the gallery.
It was fantastic seeing so many familiar furs and meeting many new ones!

Posted 11 years agoSooo page views doubled in basically one day due to a link from Rukis of the Crimson Divine Collars I am crafting. I was wondering what was up with all the comments and watches all of the sudden. Just reading some of the comments, looks like I may be building some more of these... Will try and have a few extra for FC, Just a tad busy finishing up the MarkII Digi legs. Can't believe the demand for these! I built the first for fun cause I like pulling fantasy items into reality, now it looks like I will have my paws full for awhile.
Soon as I get back from FC I want to work on another set of digi legs then try some experiments on the collars. Also FC will be good feedback on collar sizes, I will have 4 different sizes there.
