Posted 11 years agoSo after that financial crisis, I *barely* managed to scrape by, thanks to the help of a few art commissions, donations, dumb luck, and riding out a few other not-as-important bills.
Right now, I'm still in a lot of debt, but I'm working two jobs to catch up. At the last absolute possible moment, Nintendo called me back and brought me back on for another contract.
I'm working 70+ hour work weeks, so I don't have much time for pretty much anything else, but I do have time to say thank you from the bottom of my chest cavity for everyone who pitched in to help a rabbit out.
So, just gotta get through the next couple of months, re-establish that financial padding, and stop stressing a tiny bit.

Posted 11 years agoI'm sure everyone is sick of hearing the "woe is me, I'm broke" story from artists and musicians, but yeah, I'm included in that list as well.
A funny thing about working for nintendo is that when you've worked there for 10 months, you have to take a mandatory two month "vacation", unpaid. Unfortunately, rent and bills still need to be paid, and the money I'd saved up to get me through didn't cut it, as I had an unexpected large bill come through that I had to pay.
My two months is almost up, but I haven't heard anything from Nintendo. I'm working a part time job right now, but it's not nearly enough money, and I'm not going to be able to afford my rent at this rate (read: never) I can barely afford my bills with my bank's overdraft allowance, but the rent will be short for sure.
I have over 200 followers, and I'm desperately asking for your help. I know you all know that I write mock videogame music and electronic soundtracks, but I don't expect to really sell much of it, since my sales have been abysmal. I've never found success in peddling my music, even though my family and friends say that I'm really good at writing music. But if you've ever been on the fence about buying any of my albums, just please know that at this time I could really, really, REALLY use the help.

The end of Broken Earth, and the beginning of something new!
Posted 12 years agoSo, Broken Earth has come to a close, I'll be mastering all of the pieces from that project and putting them on bandcamp for easy downloading at some time in the future.
Right now, it's going slow because my old computer speakers are busted, and I can't afford new ones right now. That, and I've been busy with the pokemon art project here at thefirst151.
However, when those two things are taken care of, I'll be beginning a NEW music project! I've got the genre and story in mind, and It'll be sure to be awesome! I'm not telling a word until I get the first track done :3

The reason I was late uploading is I just came back from RainFurrest, in which some jerk stole my phone while I was demonstrating some dance moves at a panel. I use my phone to take pictures of my pokemon artist trading cards I've done, which then get uploaded here.
Finally got my replacement phone which I'm thankful for, but it cost me a bit of money I wasn't expecting to spend. that's pretty much the only sucky part about it. Still...I don't like being so close to have to choose between paying rent and eating a meal. :(

I was participating in the dance panel, demonstrating two dance styles in the dance cipher (voguing and waacking). While I was occupied and the crowd was looking at me work, some fur decided it was a good time to go through my backpack and walked off with my phone.
Other than that, RF was a blast. But now that con is over, the cost of replacing my galaxy and looming bills and rent is making money extremely tight. Unfortunately since thats how I took pictures of my artist trading cards and uploaded them to the internet, The First 151 project is on hold until I can find a way to upload again. The cards are still being drawn, but I don't have a way to share them with everyone. :(
I may have to start opening up small commissions to help out with the bills. If you havent checked out thefirst151, its a project I'm working on to improve the quality of my art, that way after I can start doing badge commissions.
I'm not asking for a handout or anything like that, I just wanted to vent a bit of frustration as I figure out how the hell I'm gonna make money things work.

Trying to share and speak music with other musicians is such a pain. :( I really want to get to know them better and grow as a musician while spreading awareness about the craft that I love, but i hit a dead end every time I try to reach out to musicians who are much more known than myself.
As much as I love being a composer some days I wish I were just a better visual artist because its so much easier to network that way. :(
Just frustrated I suppose. It'll pass.

This was the product of this years RPM Challenge! I got it done and postmarked with 45 minutes left before deadline. I just BARELY finished it on time!
I decided on a Dougal and Gammer inspired megamix for this years RPM, as I'd never done anything like it. I've dabbled around in electronic music, but this is my first serious attempt at a big megamix like this. I think it turned out excellent, but I was stressing the entire way. It was definitely a learning experience, and a huge milestone for me! I LEARNED SO MUCH!
This project has everything from Happy Hardcore to Dark Harpsichord to Ducktales Moon inspirations to Raggacore! I implore you to give it a listen! Please, download it and tell me what you think! It's name your price, so you can just put 0.00 there and whala, 36 minutes of free music for you. Of course, if you're wanting to make a donation, I wont say no! *starving musician bunny eyes*

I'm about 90% done with this years RPM challenge! Its NaNoWriMo for musicians, and I've been working like a madman to finish!
I've only got about 7 more minutes of music I have to write before I'm done....and the last few songs are the hardest. I've exhausted all of my tricks, and now I'm really trying to pull it together to finish this project.
Finish or not, I promise I'll make available what I wrote on either FA or Soundcloud or something (Some of it is already on FA!)

I'm beyond excited, as this is the first con I'm going to outside of Oklahoma, and I feel like this is my chance to really introduce myself to the Washington area furscene. :3 I'm nervous, excited, scared, and all other kinds of emotions, so I hope I make a good first impression!
Broken Earth is coming along. I'm working on a theme for a Neon Lights type city, it's gonna be upbeat and jazzy, but right now what I'm putting down isnt clicking for me (Mainly because I don't have a fender rhodes or electric piano soundfont I like yet) but drumwise what I've got is fun, so gonna keep chipping at it until i get slapped with some inspiration.
I've discovered two styles of dance that are closely related called waacking and voguing that have been around for a while. I've really fallen in love with the style and the history behind both, and I've started researching where I can start taking lessons in dance. I'd love to start here! If you want an entertaining youtube trip, search those! It's fun to watch the crowds get so riled up over something as deceptively simple as arm movements and throwing yourself on the ground XD

SHMUP music is extremely eclectic, and theres always movement and something aurally interesting going on. While I am comfortable writing videogame musics, what would make this challenging for me is that besides the kicks and maybe some hihats, I would have to create all of my instruments from scratch.

I've just been recently introduced to electroswing, and I love it. This combines two things I really love, early-era swing music and modern electric rhythms. This would challenge me because I would be required to sample from a library of early-era music and turn it into something brand new.
So.....vote!

This is a 12 track Mega Man inspired project that includes 8 original robot boss themes as well as three "Dr. Wily" stage themes and a final boss battle. This was my first really serious delve into the chiptune genre, so I'm really happy with the way everything turned out.

"Dr. Chandler's Castle" is FINISHED....sort of.
Posted 13 years agoI've finished all of the tracks for the mock megaman soundtrack! *Throws confetti!*
What this means is that I'll be remastering all of the tracks and putting them on my bandcamp page for free download, with option for donations. This also means that I'll be removing the chiptunes from my FA page, so I just wanted to throw a heads up out there if someone wonders what happened to them all :) I still need to finish the CD cover, so they're not coming down immediately, but this'll happen in the future for sure.
Thank you all for the super support for this chiptune soundtrack! I'm really excited with the way the tracks came out, and I've learned a LOT about chiptunes during the length of the project!
