Tendered My Resignation
Posted a year agoFinally tendered my resignation from my toxic workplace. Got to serve my notice period.
Immediately after I resigned, I've got two new job interviews lined up for me in the next week.
Things are looking good. One door closes, another opens.
Let's do this!

Flying off to Bangkok for 5 days
Posted 2 years agoWill be flying off to Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday evening for a business trip.
Hadn't been to Bangkok for a long time, so hopefully it will be a positive experience! :3
Fun fact, Bangkok's official name in Thai is:

Krungthepmahanakhon Amonrattanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokphop Noppharatratchathaniburirom Udomratchaniwetmahasathan Amonphimanawatansathit Sakkathattiyawitsanukamprasit
Of course, locals usually usually just call it Krung Thep.

Fake Wikipedia Pages of My OC bios removed by FA staff
Posted 2 years agoBut that's okay!
Rereading the upload policy, I respect and understand FA's position on the removal of Irda's and Gervas's fake Wikipedia articles. While I am aware of the upload rule that one cannot take screenshots of websites, I wasn't aware it even extended to Wikipedia's sandbox templates.
Upload Policy, Section 4.1 - Screenshots
Screenshots of applications, copyrighted content (movies, tv shows, etc), or websites are not allowed, unless showcasing new, original, user-created content (models, textures, etc). This rule does not apply to games with user created content (Garry's Mod, Second Life, Minecraft, IMVU, etc).
I won't be uploading their screenshots again, and instead you'll read them as text in the submission descriptions. If you'd like to view their original Wikipedia screenshots, I will post them on an external site like Imgur.

Resuming Writing Commissions
Posted 2 years agoSo, I'm getting sick and tired of my micromanaging boss after two years working in my current job. I've decided that come 2024, I'll be in a new job that is more satisfying, more fulfilling, and not a constant yelling ordeal from a boss who wants to be in control all the time.
I'm still not resigning from my job yet until I've found another job, but in the mean time, I will be opening writing commissions after a long hiatus.
Writing commission:
$15 USD / 13 € EUR / $20 SGD per 1000 words
Payment method: PayPal
I like writing:
- Comedy [my fav]
- Biographies/backstories [also a fav]
- Worldbuilding
- Geography
- History
- Seks
I will not write:
- Excessive violence
- Underaged content
- 'Extremist' ideologies
Please do not hesitate to send me a discord message or FA notes for enquiries and clarifications!

Spending Hours Naming my OCs
Posted 2 years agoThe slight drawback of being a conlanger (i.e. constructed language creator) and someone who studies linguistics for fun is that you end up becoming waaaaay to serious with naming characters.
For instance, if I want to give someone a Japanese name, I will open the Kanji dictionary, look at their Onyomi, Kunyomi and Nanori pronunciations just to be sure I have realistic names. If I want to make an pre-Colombian Aztec character, I will avoid the letter 'r' because the language of the Aztecs, Nahuatl, does not use any rhotic (or 'r') consonants in the language. When making an Arab character, I make sure to check whether they're from Morocco or Saudi Arabia because the two have different naming conventions.
Of my OCs, only my four dragons, Thana (raven babe) and Izri (egret dude) have non-IRL names. The four dragons have draconic names from a language I created called Kalavi, while Thana is a nickname she acquired from her younger brother who at one point kept mispronouncing her actual name: Shatha. Izri is Moroccan, but neither has an Arab or Berber name. Izri comes from an unknown language which I have yet to create to justify the existence of such name. TBH, I don't feel like doing it though.
I also try to give my characters recognisable names that are neither too common, nor too rare. For instance, to my surprise, Irda, despite being four letters long, is the only uniquely named entity on E621.
Honestly, sometimes I ask myself if I'm trying too hard, but there is something rewarding about exploring other cultures and studying them to such depth and context that you really begin to appreciate the potential for realistic and convincing lore.

My Mum Started Using ChatGPT for her LinkedIn posts
Posted 2 years agoSO
My mum is the entrepreneurial type who has hundreds of connections on her LinkedIn. Most of her (daily) posts contain photos of her with ambassadors, CEOs, executives and other business gurus from around Asia and the beyond.
Recently, she's got herself involved in ChatGPT, and starting since yesterday, has begun making posts using AI generated (or rather, machine learned) text with prompts from her own experiences.
We had dinner together, and she talked about how all sorts of mass content creation will become AI generated. "If you were a business who needs a generic photo, why not get an AI generated image to do that? It cuts costs!" She says. "Also, Chat GPT will make writing increasingly obsolete".
As much as many content creators might boycott AI, I think we are in for a transformation of our industry to a sort of luxury good/service (if it wasn't already). I do predict that AI generated mass/commercial media content will become very stale, predictable, inflated and saturated. Yes, jobs have been hit, and there have been artists who have already lost their careers due to AI. In fact, my mum told me she no longer needs me to check her LinkedIn posts' grammar since Chat GPT does that for her already. But what I believe is that, just like Vinyl records, us artists will become a luxury good, we become more valued for our human touch.Unless, of course, the generation after gen-Z are only exposed to AI-generated content and no longer value human made content, then I guess we are more screwed LOL.
Overall, I am happy for my mum, but also nonplussed. Because if every person in LinkedIn begins using Chat GPT to generate posts there, LinkedIn is going to become a very soulless "circlejerk" place full of overtly boastful posts about "meeting the Chairman of <Awesome Company> at <Awesome X event>".
We are still in a bit of a "wild west" situation in terms of the proliferation of machine learned content creation to the masses. But sooner or later, I expect governments to step in the next few years that would regulate the industry to protect artists and content creators from suddenly finding themselves without a job they've spent years working towards.

Emigrating from the "best countries" in the world and why...
Posted 3 years agoI've recently took a dive into the economics behind Nordic countries which are arguably some of the 'best places to live and work' according to many economic and social metrics.
But one thing that often confounds me is: why would Norwegians, Swedes, Danes, Finns or Icelanders still emigrate from their home countries for other places? If Nordic countries are considered 'the best' places to live, what is the impetus to leave?
I'm talking from experience meeting them who have moved here to Singapore. Heck, I knew of a Dane who gave up their citizenship for a Singaporean one back in 2021; he now has a Filipina wife and two kids!
Yes, some of the reasons are: 'food', 'weather', 'more sun', 'lower cost of living'. But there has to be more than that, and I want to know what the reasons might be.
The video that inspired me to write this journal:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKGwGAHznFQ
NOTE: I am aware that people regularly move from wealthy nations to less wealthy ones. I did that when I was young with my family (from Singapore > China). But given that I've not been to any Nordic country, I am probably still seeing these places through rose-tinted glasses.

2023: New plans, no more 50/50 splits, Discord, and more!
Posted 3 years agoThis is going to be a pretty short journal (EDIT: okay not really LOL)
2022 is coming to a close, and so far, 2022 is quite a muted year for me. There weren't many big changes in my life, and work life is well... work life (there is more to this, but ultimately, the past is the past). All I can say is, that I did have a blessed year, and I hope 2023 will be the same as well. New challenges await, and new opportunities abound.
I wish everyone a happy 2023!
Moving forward on the fandom side of things:
1.) No more 50/50 splits in art collaborations. Going forward, unless I absolutely love/derive enjoyment in the content, I will no longer accept 50-50 splits. If someone wants to bang (say) Valexia or have her body modified to something that is not her usual body style, the other party is to pay 100% for the content. And even then, permission is still required.
Context: In 2021 and 2022, I've accepted collaboration arts where both parties split the bill 50-50, but I felt that the money I spent was not worth it because the content involves something I am indifferent or not entirely comfortable of. I know quite the number of people who really want to get art with my OCs (especially Valexia) and will be upset with this change in direction, but I guess as part of my New Year's resolution, I am going to be more affirmative and say: 'No', for my own enjoyment and peace of mind.
2.) Discord 'spring cleaning'. I'm part of too many servers, I will be exiting some of the servers which I'm not very active on :3
3.) Hope to resume writing. I've been working at my new job for more than a year now and I'm getting a hang of things. I hope to return to writing and maybe accept writing comms again. But we shall see, no promises!
4.) More one-off OCs to be expected. Other than dragons, I absolutely love rare marine, avian, scalie and cetacean species. Some species I'd love to get anthrofied include: masked boobies, red-crowned crane, northern gannets and electric eels to name a few. The list goes on...
5.) Will upload more music content. Art is still on the way, but there will be times I will post my own compositions as filler.
That's all folks!
Special shoutout to
GibbyEnsign for being a fantastic friend and emotional support. The amount of times I've blasted him about my computer's registry issues and his patience are something I will never be able to thank enough! ^^

Anyways, time for me to get fat eating a lot of Christmas goodies.

Selling/giving away an OC, what are your thoughts?
Posted 3 years agoLast year in February, I decided to get Samiya (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/40574519/), an Ethiopian Wolf girl to be part of my cast of characters.
However, in the last few months, I've been contemplating selling/giving her away. I've never sold/given away an OC before so I am not sure how I could proceed with this.
I'd like to hear your opinions on this. Should I:
1) Raffle her out. Use a random number generator.
2) Sell her. And if so, how much would you suggest? Her original commission price is $145. The artist
Guppic now charges $250 for the same type of commission.
3) Auction her out (Min bid $10, increments of $5, etc).
4) Trade her with another OC.
4) Keep her.
If you guys have any other suggestions and what nots, I'm all ears. Nothing is set in stone yet, I'm just exploring my options!
Peace,
~JAF1320
