For those who can't seem to figure out how to read the layout, just walk into the Artist's Alley, keep straight, and I'll be in the middle of it on the right. I KNOW there are plenty of furries starting to take over AWA, so don't be shy and come say hello! It's a big alley, and I could use the company.

If the comic doesn't post on time this Saturday night, blame Wordpress, because I won't be able to fix it until at least 8 am the next morning. This is the sort of thing automation is for, after all.

Both prices include shipping, which is currently waived as I'm hoarding these as examples to show off at Anime Weekend Atlanta (Sept. 18-20), but hey, a badge is a badge, right? » So it's an open request. If someone sees your idea and likes it, they can draw it for you. Ranging from the simple, to the vague, to the downright self-absorbed - but it's okay, because nobody HAS to draw them anyway, they just do so if they want.

Positive + Critical Art Meme!

1. Bright, eye-popping colors. A lot of people think the coloring is better than the lineart, and I'm inclined to agree.
2. Crisp, strong lines -- most of this is from working in digital, but it works
3. Constant Evolution - The artwork is highly experimental, and I'm not afraid to tweak even "beloved" characters in the name of better artwork. Look at how much Jigsaw's changed - The ears rounded out and shrunk a bit, her eye stripes became bigger and longer, her colors have shifted "slightly"... not to mention that in the earliest pieces of her, she didn't even have a different color for her belly like she does now.
Criticism
1. ... because of that same evolution, the longer I go without drawing a character, the more drastically different they appear when they DO return (The Vaeo family seems to suffer from this especially). Jigsaw may change just as much in 70 pages as they do, but she's drawn so often that it's a much more gradual adjustment. (another character with major in-between adjustments? Addy. Her face has morphed over time to become more "lionlike" since folks complained she looked like a freakin' bear.)
2. I'm really insecure about how I do stuff sometimes. Okay, more a complaint about myself than about my art, but still, I let other people's opinions shape my art a lot more often than I want to admit, and that's a bad thing. I mean, I do art because I WANT to do it, ideally, so why do I keep letting other folks tell me what I should and shouldn't be doing?
3. I DRAW TOO FRICKIN' SLOW. Sure, the art looks great, but it takes a while to make it. Not that it doesn't look beautiful, but because I don't draw as much random stuff (fanart, pinups, etc.) I think it's one of the major things holding me back, and I'm not sure what to do about it besides plow through it anyway. I think part of it is just drawing for the comic is slow (badges usually go pretty quick), But the problem still stands.

These badges feature a chibi rendition of yourself / your fursona / your WoW Level 70 Death Knight / whatever with the name of your choice. Each badge is are roughly 4” by 6”, custom made, cut to contour, laminated, and comes with a badge clip.

Things about me:
1: I repaired my laptop's backlight (read: disassembled screen, soldered in new light tube, reassembled screen) the night before graduation, with no help aside from what I could look up on the internet. Actually had to disassemble the screen twice -- the first time was so I could research how to do the rest of it the second time to find where the backlight was supposed to go.
2. I have yet to explain in depth the complexity of #1 out of fear my Dad will crap himself when he realizes how close I came to needing a $100+ screen replacement instead of a $20 DIY job.
3. Sometimes I wish I'd started LR in black and white because I think it would've been more popular / faster to make that way.
4. I used to write tons of fanfic and such until it just got to the point that I realized I could pull any damned trick in the book and people would still drool all over it. So... I may not be a huge expert in webcomics and art, but I don't feel like I'm suffocating for a challenge either.
5. I mostly started LR because I couldn't seem to get any traction with selling commissions of things on Gaia Online. ^_^ Of course, now I can't really go back to Gaia and do art there since the gold -> USD rate is so low it wouldn't be worth it to me.
6. I like memes like this because it's fun to see how each person goes and makes theirs special. I also dislike 'em because usually to find all the cool ones, you have to wade through a ton of crap. (Wow! Just like everything else on the internet!)
7. I crave feedback. It makes me feel like an attention whore because of how much I seem to hinge on it, but there you go. (PROTIP: Please comment more often. I like knowing you're there.)

It's looking like Commission Season... [not just yet]
Posted 16 years agoI'm ready to start taking on some new commissions, just in time to go and get ready for more conventions. ;) Anime Weekend Atlanta, in particular.
This is just to ask folks what they think I ought to focus on for this next go-around. Your options:
+ Conbadges (Chibi / Realistic, approx. 4"x6". $15 each)
+ Character Sheets (Includes three full-body pictures (two PG-13 nudes for body reference, one clothed) plus additional details, $50 each. I may ask for more if excessive detail is required.)
+ Comic Pages! ($50 per page.)
I'm not ready just yet to open the gates (I still have one more commission that needs to be finished first), but I want to see which commission type(s) people want so I know what to offer next. ^_^

[URGENT] Need new recommendations for a Tablet!
Posted 16 years agoMy Intuos 2 is starting to die... it's responsive for a few minutes, but it keeps dying if I put pressure on it and so I have to keep unplugging/replugging it to do anything. Long story short: if I'm going to continue arting it up, I need a new tablet pronto!
... And hey, who better to ask for suggestions on what to get than you guys?
Necessary Specs:
+ At least 6"x8" usable tablet space, if for no other reason than I'm already comfortable with that size.
+ Pressure Sensitivity
+ Durability (Um, yeah, I'm hard on my art supplies... Before this I went through more than my fair share of pens...)
Price Range: not an issue at this point, but most tablets fall anywhere from $100-200 anyway unless they're Cintiqs, right?
Please don't suggest anything that isn't a Wacom unless you can personally vouch for whatever brand you're suggesting.
This is for a TABLET, not a Tablet/Touchscreen PC.

... and I've got NOTHING DRAWN YET. X_X
I wanted to ask what folks' opinions are on 'em and whether or not it's worth doing 'em.
Difficulty level:
- One deadline's tommorow, the other a couple days later this week.
- I don't have art pre-prepared for either book (though I can use it later), nor art that can be sufficiently "recycled"
- Both pieces would be B&W work, which saves me a little time on coloring, but not enough (I still want to shade!)
... Help? X_X

Posted 16 years agoI know you can use webcams for Ustream, BUT... I'm a digital artist, so I want to know if there's a similar solution that can show just the screen without having to fuss with glare and stuff. ^_^

Rama - Badge Art is done; I'm holding off on the actual printing until I get the other badges completed so I don't have to use as much paper printing them out. If you want I can go ahead and post it to FA; I was mostly holding off until I actually shipped though.

Posted 16 years agoThe new booth layout went over really well, and I've got to say... it was a lot easier being in Dealer's Den this year :) Got quite a few commissions to keep me busy for a while, I'll definitely say that much!
Got a lot of new interested people in the comic, and meeting old fans was also awesome. :) I still have to go back and figure out just how well it all went, but I know I definitely didn't do badly for myself.
And yes, I'm still standing after working back-to-back conventions. :-D And the comic is also somehow with the same amount of buffer I started with before getting ready for the conventions. Hey, not falling behind is still a good sign; I'll focus on getting ahead on it once I deal with everyone's stuff that's been paid for (and there's plenty of it!)
