New suit pics
Posted 9 years ago(Mostly) Final pictures of my suit are out at http://www.roofur.com/gallery-Tidal
It's a red panda that's...blue. I went with "lite" digitigrade legs (I like them but not when they're ridiculously huge) and he has magnetic eyebrows (we'll see how that works out in practice). The jaw is movable.
If anyone sees something that's off, or may be improved upon, sound away! Roofur hasn't shipped it out yet so some changes are still possible.

FP 2016 Meme
Posted 9 years agoWhere are you staying?
Ma' house.
What day are you getting there?
Uncertain.
Who will rooming with?
Oakley.
Who will you hang out with during the convention?
Furries.
What is the best way to find you?
Social media, or just yell "hey you!"
Are there any panels you might be attending?
The Werewolf panel.
What do you look like?
Wearing camo and holding a (hopefully) real looking gun.
Will you be suiting?
If camo counts as suiting, then yes.
What is your gender?
Male
How tall are you?
5'8"
Are you mated/in a relationship?
Thankfully no.
Can I talk to you?
If you're a masochist, sure.
Can I touch you?
Only if you're a teaser.
Can I visit your room?
Again, if you're a masochist, sure.
Can I buy you drinks?
Yes, I'll need lots of water.
Can I give you stuff?
My inner kleptomaniac will thank you.
How long are you going?
Two weekends.
Do you have an artist table?
Yes, but stuff I haven't done.
Will you be going to parties?
After the second weekend, yes.
Will you be performing?
Every 10 minutes. Gonna be fun.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Do whatever most normal humans do.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
There will always be food where I'll be. Fun is a matter of circumstance.
Can I take your picture?
Gonna happen anyway.
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
To die a horribly awesome and gruesome death!

Fullsuit deposit
Posted 10 years agoI made the deposit on a fullsuit. Completion November 2016. Now to suffer buyer's remorse for the next year!
Recommended builders?
Posted 10 years agoI found a builder that I really like, Roofur (http://www.roofur.com/). Unfortunately, he's pretty full for the next year, at least. His style is fairly toony and I was wondering if anyone here knows of other builders that are similar. Maybe I can find someone who is similar but open for the next few months. Maybe cheaper, to boot. I've been maintaining a separate suit maker spreadsheet (not the giant one I made a couple of years ago, but one just listing makers I like), but there are a ton of makers out that I'm not familiar with yet.
Christ...
Posted 10 years agoI'm getting quotes of a fullsuit. Luckily, most of the builders I've been following are closed for commissions this entire year, so that's probably a good thing.
Speaking of which, question on tails. Since this will likely be a red panda of some sort, as uber-long tail is a necessity. How could I manage that when suiting outside? I was thinking of just getting two made, a super long indoor one for photos and such, and a much shorter one for outside and moving around.

What the Fur man?
Posted 10 years agoMy 4th year of WtF. It was just shy of 400 attendees and it keeps getting better every year. Small cons are a nice change and this certainly fits the bill. There are plenty of panels to go to and the zoo usually has some people even late at night, so you won't be bored. I expect next year to be more energetic as WtF will be during the Canadian Memorial Day weekend instead of the US weekend. I had a root canal a few days earlier that was really bugging me, so I spent the first half a little bitchier than usual.
Anyway, got to see my big brother
sheperd and met a cool Toronto fox,
jay_foxx.
belicbear made an appearance as usual, but I was disappointed that
wolfbird and her posse of fursuiters were unable to come this year. I roomed with
doniago and RusticPup, who's FA name eludes me right now.
I'm considering going to Furnal Equinox in Toronto in March. It's only a 6 hour drive and it's a pretty big con.
Any chance we can get more VT furs to What the Fur next year? It's only a 2 hour drive if you avoid rush hour, the hotel was pretty cheap at $130 CAD/night (it was pretty fancy though), and passport cards are only $55 and are good for 10 years.
Photos will be coming soon, bot of the con and of the Montreal zoo!

Fursuit cleaning--isopropyl alcohol or antimicrobial Febreez
Posted 10 years agoNo, I'm not asking how to do it. I spray down my suit after every outing. From the research I did earlier, a lot of people have recommending a light spraying of anitmicrobial Febreeze (it's tough to find in stores so I usually have to order it). However, just recently I was looking again and a couple of sites are now claiming that stuff will damage fabrics over time. The only source for this is http://www.sustainablebabysteps.com/febreze.html. Honestly, that site doesn't seem reliable at all - the kind that claims that "all chemicals are bad".
Does anyone else have some information on this or personal experience?
Isopropyl alcohol in a 50/50 mix with water is recommended instead. The lack of a light fragrance will be missed, but I can deal with that. However, isopropyl MAY damage some plastics, but it's hard to tell because many plastics are unaffected. Some faux fur or adhesives could be damaged I suppose.
I'm starting to panic now!

Detailed table for fursuit makers, open to editing
Posted 11 years agohttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheet.....mp;usp=sharing
I made this a couple of years ago when looking to get mine commissioned. Since then, lots of people have added entries and there are now 103 fursuit makers on there. If anyone finds this useful, please consider updating the fields as you look at builders. These is some stuff that is outdated, especially open dates for quotes.
Also, does anyone know where we can find fursuit maker reviews? AFAIK, the FA account was shut down and I found that to be extremely useful.

Suiting for me and general AC recap
Posted 11 years agoI think I finally figured out the appeal of suiting for me. I'm not a camera whore and I'm really not that interested in role playing or acting or whatever. Sure, getting my picture taken is nice (I mean, I am dressed in a giant cartoony costume after all...), but pretending to act like a dog or whatever, well, I'll leave that for others. I really just like to walk around and hang out with people. I just like to BE in suit. Just hanging around at home or at a friend's place seems ideal to me. You would think suiting at cons would be perfect for that, but at large ones like AC, I'm constantly reminded that I'm not a very good suiter. I find suiting at small cons or in public to be more fun, mostly because you're not really expected to act so much. That and people in public seem to appreciate the suits themselves and not the actor underneath.
With my uncertainty in suiting, why am I even strongly considering getting a new one?
Anyway, AC. I had some interesting car rides with
ahzlon,
rsrallygrl, and
alclave. I arrived Wednesday and stayed at the Westin, which was nice enough, but I think I would have preferred something like the Courtyard, since the elevator lines at the Westin are pretty brutal. I roomed with
sylrynn and
apothacer and a friend of Apo's that I don't know. Honestly, I was pretty bored on Thursday and even on Saturday. I didn't get much gaming in nor suiting. In fact, I really don't remember what I ended up doing. All I know is that suiting alone really sucks, even at cons. Being a relatively new fur, I don't really know many others, so while everyone else is off seeing old friends, I'm just wandering around.
Sunday was AWESOME, though. I was operating on only 3 hours of sleep and I felt GREAT. Suiting that day was really fantastic too. People around just seemed more excited. I wasn't able to suit for Dead Dog (where I broke a chandelier last year (suits + music + beach balls + low ceilings is a recipe for disaster) because of the looming trip on Monday. I would really like to be able to stay for all of Dead Dog and possibly leave later. Stupid long drive.
I had a photoshoot with BC4C suiters and snap and I also got to see
pawsthegame. I really don't know him very well, but I can't help but smile whenever I see him. There were some good suits there, or course. My favorites were probably DerpShark or whatever he's called, the hotdog rottweiler (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13929310/), Deadpool, and the fantastic Robbie the Dinosaur cosplayer. Also seeing
iambgs and
cruxvv was nice as well, though they had their hands full for most of the con.
I'm sure if I knew more people, the whole con would have been great, but I found that Thursday was just empty. A trip to the zoo probably would have been better. Friday was pretty good. Saturday was boring, but I don't know why. I did play some really great games of Werewolf until 4am, though. And Sunday was crazy awesome. So overall, AC was generally a good time for me. It wasn't the heaven that it is for others, but I'm sure if I was in the fandom longer it probably would have been.

Must...commission...red panda... fullsuit
Posted 11 years agoHopefully this itch will fade, like it has at the end of the other cons I've been to.
Waterfront/Church St suiting tomorrow
Posted 11 years agoA few of us BTVers are looking to go suiting in downtown or the Waterfront. No time decided yet. I'll comment with the time if we reach critical mass.
What the Fur 2014
Posted 11 years agoBack again from WtF, up in Montreal. Why more Vermonters don't go to this con that is so close by, I don't know.
There were problems, of course, but I think it's progressing pretty well. Attendance was just over 300 I think, but the number of fursuiters was 78, A pretty impressive ratio. The ratio of quality suits to shitty ones was also pretty high. The new hotel is really nice, with affordable rooms that are quite large (although I heard the suites were on the small side). There's a really cool courtyard in the middle with a pond (with DUCKS!!!!!!) and a great pool area. However, the hotel location isn't the best (WtF was held very near downtown in the past, but now it's near the airport).
I think one big problem was the lack of a zoo area for general chatting. There were several conference rooms in the convention space that weren't being used and were locked that would have worked just find. Whether it was price or whatever, I think the lack of a zoo was a very big oversight. I also felt the main auditorium was a bit small and could have easily been increased with some more swizzling around of rooms. And, finally, some main events (namely the fursuit games) were held a little early on Saturday, when I'm sure most suiters (myself included) were somewhat hungover.
Enough of the fairly minor complaints. I got to see
sheperd again, and my bigger BMD brother is still as huggable as always.
wolfbird's suits were there in full force and, of course, stole the show. I met
sgtmik, who's suit is only a couple of months old, so he's still obsessed and enthusiastic about it (and he built it himself; pretty impressive work). The gaming room was usually full with both games and people, even at 4am. The food in Montreal is substantially better than you can get in the states for the same price. And, of course, all Montrealers are obscenely nice.
I really need to get myself up there more often.

Suiting this Sunday?
Posted 11 years agoSunday is supposed to be really nice out. How about a round of suiting around downtown? Of course, attend to your Mother's Day celebrations afterwards.
Thinking of just wandering around Church St and/or the waterfront.

Suiting next weekend, dammit
Posted 11 years agoWeather next weekend is supposed to be quite warm with a 10-20% chance of rain. I'm just thinking of wandering around downtown, either Saturday or Sunday. I'll have a better idea of the weather in a few days. Anyone else (potentially) coming?
My neck fur escapes me
Posted 11 years agoLooking for suggestions on how to keep the neck fur attached to my fursuit head from coming untucked from my shirt. The neck parts are pretty long, but within minutes of tucking them under my shirt, it comes out. Not a big deal, but it does look crappy IMO.
I guess a lot of suiters wear bandanas, but I fail to see how that will prevent this. If anything, they'll just ride up a bit. The only thing I can think of is to attach a bit of velcro on my undershirt to hold it down.

I've got the shakes...
Posted 11 years agoFor whatever reason, my tax refund this year is massive (even after withholding less on my W-4). I'm toying with the idea of getting a full suit. This is a bad idea, mostly because I barely suit enough to justify my partial I got in 2012, and the fact that I'm a pretty bad suiter in general.
But still... more fur... Someone tell me this is not a good idea.

I'm missing something here...
Posted 11 years agoPorn. Yes, I'm not a huge (huehuehue) fan of furry porn, but this profile seems incomplete without at least a few sketches of anthros making the beast with two backs, in gland-to-gland combat, and waging war on chastity.
What the Fur, people?
Posted 12 years agoAnyone going to that con in Montreal? I've been twice and had a good time. It's in the end of May and Montreal's an awesome city. 300-400 people, so very small, which is a good thing, IMO.

AC Dead Dog
Posted 12 years agohttp://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4822164/
I was too busy messing around in the dancing room to hear this, but on my way out the hallway was PACKED. Those of you who decided to be responsible and sleep on Sunday night missed a good time.

What the Fur 2013, another great year
Posted 12 years agoThe small con up in Montreal is over again. It's really a great deal and I'm surprised more Vermonters don't go. Granted, AC is getting fairly close now, but Montreal is so close to Burlington.
Anyway, I got to meet a few people, including
sheperd, Belic Bear, Manu Lua, and
talmak. I spent a significant portion suiting, especially for the IFHL (fursuit floor hockey, yes people were close to heat stroke), fursuit games, the parade, and just lounging around. The new hotel was nice and very large and there's plenty of room to grow in this new location.
It's always cool to see the Canadian furs as one big family. The con staff for WtF also helps out at Furnal Equinox, Condition, Camp Feral and the others.
Also, a big shoutout to
insanefoxx and
didymus for running gaming 24 hours a day, from 7pm Thursday to 3am Monday. I got to play some great games, including The Red Dragon Inn, Cash 'n Guns, Bang, Kragmortha, Shadow Hunters, and Candari.

I saw this piece at What the Fur and I'm an idiot for not buying it on the spot. Does anyone know who might have done this? The watermark seems to say hudgie.deviantart.com, but hudgie and all variations turn up blanks.

Anyone locals have experience fixing suits?
Posted 13 years agoThe leg sleeves of my suit are sewn into athletic pants that are about 6 sizes too long for me. I'd like to rework them into something smaller (and tighten the wrists of my arm sleeves a bit while I'm at it). I have very limited experience with sewing and none when dealing with faux fur. Is there anyone local who might be able to help? It's a very small job and I can pay you back with whatever may be deemed appropriate!
