Stuck in Limbo
Posted 13 years agoNothing is going right with our move, unfortunately. I apologize to my clients and watchers for my resultant lack of activity - I've been really stressed lately.
Coffee Randomness
Posted 13 years agoSo, we were doing some packing tonight, and I grabbed myself a coffee to keep me energized - I figure, hey, caffeine hasn't REALLY made me wired since I graduated from university, and even if it does, what's the big deal?
Well, it's almost 5AM now and I don't feel the tiniest bit sleepy. Casey's already asleep beside me (WHO'S WATCHING WHO SLEEP NOWohnowaitthatwasLukenevermind...) and I'm lying here trying not to disturb him with my laptop's nuclear-bright incandescence :V Why don't I turn the screen brightness down? Because it bugs my eyes for whatever reason, that's why *folds arms* :b White must be white, damnit!
Anyway, I think we've finally found a place to live - it's a really nice three bedroom house in Anstruther (I call it An Strudel :3), 15 miles or so from the university. A little bit far away, but cheaper, which is good. Now we just need to book flights, and find out if our landlord would mind, by chance, if I brought my gecko and snake with me ;_; In the case it doesn't work out, I have a friend ready to take care of them for me, so at least I have a backup plan. Still, I'd rather not leave Jormie and Snake behind... :c
Also, I know I said this last journal, but after squeezing out that last commission, I think I need to take a brief break from commissions while I finish up packing and things. I may do a little more linework for Lex, or a sketch for Argent or Initiacis, but otherwise I won't be starting any major work, I don't think, until I know stuff has been handled. Thanks again to my clients for being so supportive!

Stress! Moving soon...
Posted 13 years agoWhile disturbingly little is written in stone as of yet, I know ~Theglavwen and I will be shipping out of Canada and flying to Scotland in less than two weeks, so I'm streeeeeessed. Just wanted to let my commissioners know I haven't forgotten about them, and to apologize if I'm busy the next little while and unable to produce much. Thank you so much for your patience and patronage <3 It's very much appreciated in this, let's call it... very trying time!
I'm not sure what date we're flying out, nor where we'll be living yet, or even if our visas will work out (and not for lack of trying to get things organized ahead of time, distressingly enough), and all I know is that we have to be there for before the second week of September... but I'm sure it'll all work out, right?
... Never mind, don't answer that :P
Anyway, hopefully my next journal will be a little less distressed, and a little more, "I'm here in Scotland and everything is awesome!" 8D On that note, I hear they sell food boxes all throughout the dark hours of the night in the UK, designed to sate drunks and nightowls with a giant heap consisting of things like pizza, poutine, and curry all mixed together in a single, convenient, grease-laden box. I think that sounds disgusting, heart-attack-inducing, and delicious - I'll let you know how that goes :b

So hot...
Posted 13 years agoIt's nearly 30 degrees Celsius in my room (that's 86 degrees Fahrenheit for you Americans), with the fan on full, and not including the heat my poor computer is giving off :P Maybe that's not so hot for some of you, but it's kind of making me feel like death x_x I'm sweating just sitting here not even doing anything! Well, at least it looks really nice when I look out my window ;P But yes, even at midnight, it was 26C (79F) in Vancouver last night, so I don't even really get a break when the sun goes down. Ah well, there'll only be another few weeks of this, I'm sure, before the lovely damp cold of Scotland, haha.
So, what do you guys do to keep cool? Or are you one of those crazy people who, heaven forbids, ENJOYS being hot? *shakes fist*
Also, still have a few slots left for big commissions left! See <url=http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3718505/]my previous journal[/url] for more details.

Trolling
Posted 14 years agoI'm pretty sure I've made a poll on it before, trolling: is it ever appropriate? is it ever justified?
I personally hate trolling of most kinds. There's a difference between "consensual" trolling, like joking between friends; giving reasonable and non-personal criticism, like pointing out a demonstrable mistake or error; defending yourself against trolls with trolling; and then there's trolling itself. I suppose the definition varies slightly from person to person, but I define it as making fun of and/or generally harassing a person, either fairly or unfairly, directly or indirectly.
It's my personality, I guess - I don't like confrontations, I don't like being unreasonable if I can help it, and I don't like making fun of people who may simply be misjudged or misunderstood. If you're more of a troll, then it's called cowardice or being a pussy. Whatever, it's not entirely untrue, I suppose.
But what about cases where trolling IS called for? I don't want to name names, but I've been made aware of a... I'm not sure what to call them... a group of extremist otherkin, I suppose. For the most part, I don't care. So they believe they have the spirits of dragons, or gryphons, or unicorns? Just leave them alone. So they want to someday develop the technology to turn themselves into said mythical creatures? Just leave them alone. So they are seriously planning to turn themselves into mythical creatures, and are seriously planning to build weapons of mass destruction to defend themselves by any means necessary, and have no qualms about wiping out humanity if need be? ... Wait, what?
I'm all for leaving people be, no matter how silly or immature or deluded some people may think they are, but when it gets to the point of having notably implausible beliefs AND acting seriously upon them to the point of harming others? You're ASKING FOR IT. It doesn't matter whether the belief is "They beat me up in highschool," or "You're a racist for saying dragons don't exist," seriously trying to build nukes with the intended purpose of blowing up everyone but yourselves is not cool. Period.
Maybe I've got them all wrong. They do claim to be peaceful, reasonable, and intelligent, and claim they just want to be left alone. I totally respect that. But why, then, is so much of your discussion about weaponry designs, and how your dragon/gryphon/centaur bodies will be able to kill 300 humans without effort? Surely, it can't be just in self-defense? You might be better off just being open nerds, and saying, "I like designing stuff like this, it's fun!" But when you hold implausible beliefs like, "I'm a dragon" and then say, "Not only am I a dragon, but I will BE a dragon in twenty years, and will be able to kill 300 of you single handedly, and failing that, I will nuke the earth while my superior dragon body keeps me safe,".... well... I just can't support you anymore.
I wish you the best, though. Truly. In the end, what makes you happy in life is important, and if it makes you happy, then go for it.
Just don't nuke me :V

Anyone know where you can buy a good leash online?
Posted 14 years agoSo I've been looking for a nice leash for a little while now, something nicer (but not necessarily fancier) than your typical leather, chain, or nylon leash. There are a number of decent pet stores and fetish websites that you'd think would carry something that would catch my eye, but maybe I just haven't come across it yet. Can anyone suggest a website with a good selection of leashes?
Can you help my dog?
Posted 14 years agoThis is a journal on behalf of a friend - she can be contacted at foxtrot.wolfwhistle[at]gmail.com .
"I'm about as desperate as anyone can get right now. You see, we had a dog forced upon us by my dad's ex-mother-in-law because she was being abused by her neighbour. We never had room or time for her, but we took her in anyway. We couldn't afford to have her spayed either, so she went through her first season and ended up having a phantom pregnancy, causing her to snap at my dad's ex's dog. When they split up, we had to take Guinness (our dog) with us. My dad found someone else who also had a dog, but after Guinness' second season she snapped at this dog too.
However, she has never EVER snapped at a person, she's even fantastic with kids. We think that she has ended up hating dogs because she was abused and also bullied by her first owner's other dogs. Unfortunately, we can no longer keep her because of how she is with my dad's girlfriend's dog. We tried to ask the RSPCA for help, but they were nothing but rude and apathetic to our situation. They just told us to get her put down because she was "too aggressive", even though they never came to assess her.
Now, my last hope is sending out this message to anyone who I think can help. If anyone in the Northwest of England would like to save this staffie's life, I would be eternally grateful.
Please help me, I know that you love animals too. If you can just put a message in your journal or something it would be a big help.
Thanks for reading this,
FW"
Again, you can contact her to help or for more information at foxtrot.wolfwhistle[at]gmail.com - Thank you :)

Notice to Clients
Posted 15 years agoHope everyone had a happy new year!
Sadly, after a good, oh, 10 years of dedicated service or so, my Wacom Intuos2 tablet has finally passed away, unexpectedly, in the night :c Its cord had been slowly disintegrating of late, and I was just finishing up my latest piece and was in the process of saving the file when it sputtered and died, as if helping me finish one more piece was its final dying wish <3 Rest in peace, dear tablet! You've earned it.
What this means for me and you (you being all my commissioners, present and future), unfortunately, is that there's going to be a period of inactivity for me, as I require a tablet to do 95% of all my digital work, until my new tablet arrives (I ordered it last night, shortly after saying goodbye to my old one). My tablet is expected to arrive around January 24th - my apologies to anyone I've inconvenienced. I will, in the meantime, see if I can work on any traditional commissions and will be contacting said clients soon.
Thank you all for your patience and support :)

Educational kid book ideas?
Posted 15 years agoIf I were to write/illustrate an educational science book for kids (age 6-12, ish), knowing that I have a B.Sc. in animal biology, what should I do?
I was recently revisiting the idea that I should put my degree and artistic ability together into an educational book for children. I remember having a few when I was little (I used to be a reading fiend, and I loved encyclopedias and educational kid books) and I always appreciated having some kind of understanding for the world around me. I remember "growing up" and going to highschool, and when people were learning about human physiology for the first time, I thought, "Wow, this really is just like that kid's book I had when I was little, I already know this!"
I thought that was really cool, that something could be approachable by young kids but have useful, fun knowledge that actually sticks with you and makes your world make more sense.
So, I was thinking of doing similar books - the first two that came to mind were a "How your body works!" book, or a book showcasing animals of North America and teaching kids about local wildlife. My mother also thought that I should write little stories about animals, and make them educational and about what life for the animals is really like, and that kids would really like that, too. I do have an animal story already that I wrote when I was younger that I could probably adapt, but it'd be, ironically, perhaps more work to write an educational creative story than it would be to explain to kids how cells or stomachs or keystone species work for me.
I personally would maybe find it easier to write a straight-up informational-style book than a tell-it-through-a-story book. For instance, I can't just write a story about a wolf pup - I want it to be educational, about what wolf pack life is like, and how their social structure works and what their hunting is like. Sometimes the best way to do that is through story, but at the same time, I was the sort of learner that just liked things laid out straight for me, and explained. So I'm a bit torn on what style I should go for...

* Desired Size: (roughly how big you want the image, in pixels or inches)
* Limited Budget? (if possible, I can try to keep the image within your budget - may not be possible)
* Deadline? (if there's a deadline, please let me know ASAP!)
* Commercial Rights? (if you need the commercial rights for the image, please let me know!)
* Original? (if it's a traditional commission, do you want the original, and if so, what's your address?)
* Private? (if you want the commission to be kept a secret, please tell me!)
Next, I will give you a price quote, and we can discuss time and money required for what you'd like done. This will likely include waiting on a waitlist, although in rare occasions I can immediately attend to a person's requests.
When it's your turn and I'm ready to start your commission, I will confirm your interest and require a minimum 50% advance payment before work can start. I accept Paypal only. Upon receiving payment, I will draw up a rough sketch for you and send it to you for review.
At this point, we discuss any necessary revisions required before I move on. Once you confirm the revisions, any future major revisions (including redraws and/or changes in original commission information) may result in additional charges to be determined by me on a case-by-case basis.
While working on the image, depending on its complexity, I will likely send you work-in-progress (WIP) images for you to review, and you may request minor changes as I work. Any major revisions that could have been requested at earlier reviews may incur additional charges.
Once I have completed your commission, I require full payment (if not already paid in full) before sending you your finished work. If you requested the original copy of a traditional commission, you are responsible for paying any material, shipping and handling costs. If you requested a digital piece, I will send you all original files (including .psd and .ai files) as well as a full-resolution, unwatermarked .jpg file.
Terms of Service/Artwork Usage Rights
Unless otherwise negotiated ahead of time...
* I must be able to contact you reliably. Failure to respond in a timely manner (within a few weeks) may result in you losing your commission spot.
* I require a minimum 50% advance payment for all commissions, no exception. For smaller (roughly <$40) commissions, I require 100% payment before work can start.
* A rough sketch and any WIPs will be sent to you for review and minor revisions - any major changes to the original commission information may result in additional costs at my discretion**.
* We both have the right to publicly display the artwork online or elsewhere, or otherwise make personal usage of the artwork.
* In cases of original commissions, you are responsible for any and all shipping and handling costs, and I will not be held responsible for anything damaged or lost in the mail.
* In cases of adult subject matter, you assert and affirm that you are of legal age to view and purchase items of an adult nature by commissioning me.
* I retain ALL commercial rights*** to the artwork. You cannot make commercial use of the artwork without my permission.
* You retain ALL commercial rights*** to your personal characters in the artwork. I cannot make commercial use of the artwork without your permission if it includes your personal characters.
* I retain the right to modify, edit, or reuse the artwork in part or whole following commission completion at my discretion.
* You retain the right to modify, edit, or reuse the artwork in part or whole following commission completion at your discretion, provided it is not for commercial use***.
* I retain the right to cancel a commission at any time should you a) violate my rights, b) fail to respond or send payment in a timely manner (several weeks), c) harass or threaten me, or are otherwise rude or hostile.
* You retain the right to cancel a commission at any time for any reason, but money cannot be refunded for work already done (even if incomplete). Cancelling a commission results in your losing your commission slot.
** Commercial use may include but is not limited to using the artwork as a business logo, selling merchandise featuring the artwork, using the image for marketing purposes, or otherwise making money from the artwork.
*** This includes but is not necessarily limited to "unreasonable" requests, such as asking me to redraw a character after already confirming the character sketch and allowing me to begin painting, requesting additional elements partway through the commission, or waiting until I'm finished to tell me you weren't happy with the sketch.
Acceptable Subject Matter
I prefer wildlife, nature, fantasy, dark, and anthro art. I tend not to prefer urban, industrial, technical, or mechanical subjects. I am willing to do mature or erotic artwork, and will consider any subject, although I reserve the right to decline the request.
In short, I will happily consider any and all subject matters, but may not necessarily accept them for commission. Certain subject matters that I find challenging may result in additional costs.
Waiting Times & the Wait List
Unless otherwise negotiated, I work on each commission on the waiting list in roughly chronological order, but waiting list order is susceptible to change in accordance to client responses or lack thereof. Therefore, any estimate of waiting time is approximate and subject to change without notice.
The wait list can be found in my deviantArt journal ( http://jocarra.deviantart.com/journal ) and is updated every few days.
Acceptable Methods of Payment and Paypal Information
I accept Paypal only as a personal payment to jocarra@gmail.com, although in rare exceptions I will accept a trade instead. I reserve the right to request funds in either USD or CAD at my discretion. This is to ensure I lose a minimum amount of money to Paypal fees.
General Conduct Guidelines
Please be straightforward, polite, and patient. You are entitled to be picky about your commission, but ensure that any criticism is constructive, directed/specific, and helpful - I cannot improve the work if you merely tell me "it looks wrong" when you really mean "his face is too thin and nose should be longer." Feel free to be casual :)
Thank you for taking an interest in commissioning me :) Please be sure to read my Terms of Service (ToS) before paying - paying for a commission acknowledges that you have read and agreed to my ToS. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask :)
Any and all commission inquiries may be sent to jocarra[at]gmail.com
The Process
Firstly, if you're interested in a commission, I need information from you! Here's an example form you can use, if you'd like, that includes the sort of information I'm looking for:
* Email address: (for correspondence & sending files)
* Medium: (traditional or digital?)
* Style: (sketch? lineart? cartoony/cellshaded? realistic?)
* The Idea: (brief description of your idea for the image, what's going on)
* Subject(s): (description of any characters)
* Background: (description of any background)
* Desired Size: (roughly how big you want the image, in pixels or inches)
* Limited Budget? (if possible, I can try to keep the image within your budget - may not be possible)
* Deadline? (if there's a deadline, please let me know ASAP!)
* Commercial Rights? (if you need the commercial rights for the image, please let me know!)

Family
Posted 15 years agoI tried to post this as a poll on deviantArt, but it turned out perhaps more awkward than useful. Anyway...
I was interested in people's opinion and value of family.
Some people feel strongly that family should have a role in everything they do in life - an influence on where they choose to live, who they choose to marry, what career they choose to pursue - and that this is a special obligation, that those who ignore the obligation of family are somehow bad people or otherwise abnormal. These people would go to the ends of the Earth to protect a sibling who was cruel to them, or to love their alcoholic father who beat them.
Others feel equally strongly that family should not get special treatment or consideration - these people would see no problem in turning their back on their abusive alcoholic father, feeling they owe him no special favour. They feel that being family does not mean you must love and care for a person who hurt and abused you, just because they're family.
What do you think?
* * *
I should note that I'd like to distinguish "family" from "offspring" - there is a much stronger and practical obligation to care for one's young than there is for one's sister or uncle. So I'm not talking about how you treat/value your kids, but more your parents/grandparents/siblings/cousins.
* * *
In my personal opinion, as one person so aptly put it: "it's a mutual respect thing, not demanding respect just because you are a family member." I don't think that a person should be obligated to unconditionally love their family, simply because they're legally, technically, or genetically family, and to owe them special favour and treatment and value their opinions, JUST because they're family.
I have great admiration and respect for families that are close, happy, loving, and functional. However, it bothers me when someone says, "You should love your sister, you should protect her" ... even if your sister is a terrible person. Why? "Because she's family." To me, that is not inherent justification. I'm not being mean, or cruel, or cold. I just don't understand how being one's sister logically obligates a sibling to like a person who is otherwise entirely dislikeable. Why should you love a father who abused and raped you as a child? "Because he's family?" Why does being legally or genetically related to someone mean you can be the biggest, cruelest asshole in the world, but your family still "has" to love you?
Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't get it.
* * *
The best explanation I could come up with when discussing this with my boyfriend was that humans are still genetically inclined to feel a sense of obligation towards family, to inherently value family more than others.
Normally, a species adapts to changes in environment because the environment inflicts selective pressure upon the species. It is different with humans, however. Instead, humans are capable of changing their environment around themselves, rather than the environment influencing humans, and so human evolution is largely... behind, you might say.
So we're still essentially genetically programmed like our primitive ancestors, struggling to survive. We lived in tight-knit familial groups, because on our own, we died. We needed each other to survive, and the family unit was our life.
Today, however, life is vastly different, yet our genes are still telling us, "Family is important. Value your family. You need your family." And many societies, especially Eastern cultures, still circulate strongly around the wellbeing of the family as a whole.
There's nothing WRONG with that, really. My real big qualm is...
WHY is "because he's family" a truly legitimate excuse today for loving your abusive father who raped you? Some people would go so far as to say you even SHOULD love him. But WHY? In today's world, what sense does that make? Why do people still value familial obligation and unconditional love so strongly, even in cases of abuse?
I just don't get it.

What would you do if...
Posted 15 years ago... you were working on this great personal art project. You've been working on it for days, and probably have put at least 20-30 hours into it. You're pumped, and really loving how it's turning out. Then, just before you finish it, there's a terrible freak accident that wrecks most of the image :O
Do you get upset? Do you give up on it? Or do you start all over again?

Freedom of Speech vs Prejudice
Posted 15 years agoI didn't plan on speaking at length about this, but, well, here I am writing something anyway.
This was originally inspired by a deviantArt poll, asking whether we think dA should block all "offensive speech" or whether we prefer being allowed to speak our minds and express our opinions (regardless of whether or not it is "offensive").
Something worth noting that ~pixieface pointed out: American laws regarding freedom of speech does NOT allow Americans to say whatever they want. The first amendment reads as follows: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." ~pixieface then continues to explain, "You are protected from having your freedom of speech violated by the government. DA is not the government. They are a private entity, therefore they can choose to have what rules regarding speech as they like; they are not bound by the first amendment." Furthermore, dA is not a purely American entity, so it's somewhat beside the point, anyway.
TL;DR: citing freedom of speech as legal right cannot work here.
So, basically, should deviantArt (or FurAffinity, or where ever) be a place where creative people can express themselves freely (even if those ideas and expressions may be offensive to some), or should some expressions be completely banned?
Things I find most interesting about this issue...
* Is it acceptable to express strong dislike of certain types of people at all?
* If so, why is it more acceptable to say you dislike athiests or Christians, but less acceptable to say you dislike Jews or Muslims? Why is it more acceptable to say you dislike blondes or redheads, but less acceptable to say you dislike blacks? Why is it more acceptable to say you dislike stupid people, but less acceptable to say you dislike the mentally handicapped? What is the real difference between saying the former and saying the latter? - they're all blanket terms for types of people as described by one feature. What exactly makes some dislikes more or less acceptable in expressing? Is this fair?
* All people have their reasons for saying what they do, and almost all people believe that what they say about a type of people is more or less reasonable. This can vary from, "I hate all Asians, I think they're disgusting, and you all need to live with it," to "I haven't liked any Asian I've met so far - I find their behaviour/practices strange, their locales unhygienic, their people unfriendly and alien, but maybe that's just me." Is the issue, then, simply how the dislike is expressed?
* With the previous questions in mind, how does one fairly draw the line between acceptable and unacceptable?
I have my own ideas and answers in response to these questions, but I'm more curious about what other people have to think, actually.

Old Days
Posted 15 years agoIt's funny - it seems the second I open up the window to begin writing, everything I wanted to say simply vanishes from my mind. Not entirely, not enough to make me no longer feel the urge, or forget how good it felt, but enough to make anything I say seem terribly disappointing in comparison.
I've been working on my Tripartitus Wiki (the bare mention of which reminds me of how few people likely remember it, which I suppose is a little sad for me. However, the important thing is that I never forget - it wasn't created for anyone else), and going over old art and reliving old inspirations has been, for the lack of a better word at the moment, interesting. The characters and their story and art has always been in part a reflection of me and my life, and true to that, they've reminded me of what I've been missing.
Well... Not exactly missing. Things are different than they used to be, and the grass is always greener, hindsight is always 20/20, and so forth. What I mean is... I mentioned previously (in my poll about inspiration and introspection) that living in a period of relative calm, without trying times and emotional drama, seems to have sapped some part of me away. By no means do I wish to return to a state of depression and chaos and need, but those very vital things that kept me going, the things that brought me joy and passion and inspiration, are no longer needed and, in the past years of relative peace, have quietly slipped away. I miss them.
I remind myself, they've changed because I have changed, the gaping needs they filled before have been filled by other good things; I shouldn't be sad, as they will never entirely disappear. I can't complain. But when I look back at old art and remember how it felt, so different from now, it makes me... want. An echo of passion and drive. It's a good thing, but by nature it leaves me aching, just a little.
I'd like to go back and remake some of the old art that I did, up to ten years ago now. If I can only find the time and hang on to those feelings long enough...

Story Commissions
Posted 16 years agoAssuming they were talented, would you ever be interested in commissioning someone (not me :b) to write you a personalized, unique short story/piece of fiction/etc.? (including erotica and adult work)
If so, what sort of price would you say is reasonable?

Contest Winners!
Posted 16 years agoThe idea of the contest was to draw, photograph, photomanipulate or write your idea of a fun holiday or vacation.
* FIRST PLACE - free 800x800 portrait/bust
* SECOND PLACE - free 500x500 portrait/bust
* THIRD PLACE - free 300x300 portrait/bust
Again, thank you so much to everyone who entered! Please check them out :)
WINNERS
Congratulations to the winners! It was a tough choice :b If you won, please drop me a note with what you'd like for your prize!
FIRST PLACE TO ~genjihl for "Valley Refuge" (art) - This piece completely blew me away with its stunning artistry and beautiful colour. Very skillfully executed: check out all the details, from the waterfall to the distant village to the cluster of flowers in the lower right-hand corner. A thoroughly impressive work of art.
You win the 800x800 portrait/bust!
SECOND PLACE TO ~kurouingu for "Gazing at the Summer Night Sky" (art) - Definitely winning bonus points from me for featuring my two most beloved characters, this piece naturally makes me enormously happy. My personal bias aside, ~kurouingu did a wonderful job artistically, creating a lovely contrast between the warm, fire-lit figures and the cool, subtly detailed background.
You win the 500x500 portrait/bust!
THIRD PLACE TO ~nutamu for "My Dream Vacation" (prose) - A beautiful and shockingly moving take on the original contest idea. Again, I think I'd demean the piece by trying to summarize it - please read it for yourself.
You win the 300x300 portrait/bust!

I received a larger number of entries than I expected, and am faced with the very difficult challenge now of picking the winners :S All the entries were wonderful in their own ways, and I appreciate everyone who took the time and effort to enter :) Each one was in its own way meaningful, reflecting some part of a person we might never know, and it was really neat getting a personal glimpse of their lives and dreams. Thanks so much! Be sure to check out all the great entries I received!
FINALISTS (in order of submission)
I haven't yet decided on the three winners, but I have managed to at least pick ten finalists that stood out to me the most for their artistry, creativity, skill, cuteness, and/or meaningful content. I think I will hold a vote to help me decide, although it should be noted that the poll likely will NOT be the final word on who the winners are. Please check out all the finalists' work before voting!
If you have a membership, please vote here --> http://jocarra.deviantart.com/journal/poll/748572/
If you can't vote but would like a say, feel free to leave a comment.
starlight90183 for "A soft salt-scented breeze..."
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2493916/ (prose)
- A wonderfully sensual descriptive piece that really indulges the senses in the experience that is scuba diving. I've never actually tried it myself, but this makes me want to. Very lovely.
fiannaValkyrie for "Lake Osoyoose"
http://fiannavalkyrie.deviantart.co.....oose-129318124 (art)
- This piece stands out to me for a few reasons - for one, it was the first place I went camping with ~Theglavwen, and where I first met ~fiannaValkyrie herself, but the really impressive part to me is that it was drawn entirely from memory, attesting to both her skill and the enormous store of memories this place holds for all the campers that have devotedly returned to it every year. A testament to just how special this place is to so many people.
Nagi_Wolf for "Happy Trails"
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2547186 (prose)
- Besides being wonderfully written, it helps that I personally know how much work Nagi put into this piece in attempts to make it personally meaningful to me, both as a story, and as a special gift from him.
AnuOjat for "Dolphin Riding"
http://anuojat.deviantart.com/art/J.....-Pic-131641021 (art)
- *AnuOjat almost didn't enter the contest, but then managed to produce this, a delightful, adorable idea inspired by his shower curtains XD Full of energy and cute in art form.
JLGJedi for "Wolves, Springs, and Fate"
http://jlgjedi.deviantart.com/art/W.....Fate-132094969 (prose)
- Simply an amazing piece of writing that totally deserved a special mention. I think I'd demean it by trying to summarize it here, so check it out :)
queenkalani for "Vacations to Dreams"
http://queenkalani.deviantart.com/a.....eams-132093822 (photomanip)
- A lovely and lush dreamscape very much worthy of being called the vacation of your dreams. Vivid and surreal.
nutamu for "My Dream Vacation" http://nutamu.deviantart.com/art/My.....tion-132433829 (prose) - A beautiful and shockingly moving take on the original contest idea. Again, I think I'd demean the piece by trying to summarize it - please read it for yourself.
wolfmedia for "Summer Fun"
http://wolfmedia.deviantart.com/art.....-fun-134492864 (art)
- Another super-cute piece, this time featuring cartoon-me tormenting cartoon-=wolfmedia at the beach 8D... apparently being watched by a sentient and shifty-looking boombox?? o______o
genjihl for "Valley Refuge"
http://genjihl.deviantart.com/art/V.....fuge-136253638 (art)
