FC 2017 Not a Con Meme
Posted 9 years agoFurther Confusion 2017.
Yes, I'll be there. Gonna see about filming stuff. Filming the convention. Filming part of an anthology film there. And generally having to deal with a room full of people.
That's all for now.

FC 2016 Meme. Never give up! Never surrender!
Posted 10 years agoIn the grand tradition of OMG HERE'S ANOTHER MEME ABOUT ME ATTENDING FC!!!111!!!ONEONE1!
Con name: Further Confusion
Mode of transportation: Driving up. Hopefully, my trusty rusty '99 Camry will be up for one more adventure for the glorious Dalmatian empire.
Dates: Thursday/Friday to Monday-ish.
Relationship status: FREEDOM!!!
Who will you be hanging out with during the entirety of the con: Whomever wants to hang out with me.
Reason for attending FC: Because I want to. Also, I hope to film FC 2016: The Movie, along with my other cartoons.
Fursuit(s): Brandy Wine and that is all.
Food you'll partake in eating: Pizza, Subway, Psycho Donuts, and hopefully that vegan restaurant I've always passed by but never gone into at least once this weekend.
How to contact me: Text/iMessage, Telegram, Twitter DM.
Talk much: Only out of suit, and even then only if the conversation is moving along swimmingly.
Daily activities: Photographing, taking video, probably fursuiting on at least one day.
Nightly activities: Recording dialog for cartoon, shooting video for live-action film, room parties.
Equipment I'll be taking with me to FC: Canon Rebel T2i, Sony VX2100, Sony AX100 4K camcorder, Zoom H4n, microphones, MacBook Pro.
Rules of engagement when talking to me: Walk up, introduce yourself, and just hold a conversation. Smelling nice is a plus, so deodorant and baby powder works as well. Also, depending on how my mood swings, I may or may not be up to shaking hands. That's just how I roll.
What's to far: Getting grabby, not getting to the point, mouth breathing.
Other, more miscellaneous things: Yeah, I will be looking for people who want to act in my cartoon. If you want in, drop a line down below, and we'll work out something.

I'm opening up to fursuit badges
Posted 10 years agoDue to certain circumstances, I may be considering doing fursuit portraits to help cover a certain unexpected cost that has come up. Nothing too terrible, but it's something I'd rather not rely on what's coming in through my shop to help cover it. Which, by the way, I'm hoping won't cost me more than $1K, if I'm fortunate enough.
Since this is pretty much a new venture for me, I was thinking of going $65 for a 90 minute session, as many poses an props as possible in that time. That may be the cost for anyone in San Diego County, as I may charge a slight fee for mileage beyond that (although I may drop the mileage thing if we're going to the same convention). In return, you get a high-resolution album with all the pictures during the session, color corrected and ready for printing. You can leave a comment in the comment section or contact me via FA note, and we can begin discussing this.

Califur 2015 report (Cover your butts)
Posted 10 years agoI ended up going to Califur as a last second thing. Almost literally. My original plans (which I won't be discussing for personal reasons) were moved forward one week. This review is going to be honest, succinct, and straightforward.
I'd gone to Califur clearly to make it a one-day con. I've said before that Califur had really gone downhill, but to be honest, I only really went to see the few friends I really wanted to talk to. I barely see them at the PS (since all of the old regulars barely go these days, myself included). Nobody put a gun to my head to go. I wasn't coerced. I just wanted to see friends, and maybe have a front row seat to witness something. Not a train-wreck, no. It feels more like it's on life support. So, I'm going to focus on the good things, what made it fun; and the bad, what really needs to be revamped or gotten rid of.
The good.
I saw friends there. That's the good of it. I managed to take a few good pictures. Plus, and this is a really good plus, I really didn't get the feeling that my presence didn't make the volunteers go on edge by mere virtue of my using my DSLR to actually take pictures. It has to do with drama that happened at past cons.
I hung out with friends.
The bad.
These are the issues that are still plaguing the con. The Cabaret seems kind of like an unnecessary event, because it's not so fun, and the only way for anyone to consider it fun would have to be at least 18 years old, and looking for adult fun at an all ages con.
Speaking of all ages fun, what they could just do is make an all-ages variety show. Remember that show at Califur. I do. I also remember they banned cameras for the anonymity of the fursuiters, but my point stands that instead of a show that is beset by technical, age and physical appeal of performers, and passing the buck issues, Califur would probably do best to maybe add a variety show and focus on something for the entire convention, instead of only the 18+ group. Plus, let's not forget that the Cabaret Fur Le Dance is a legacy show that is the only thing to survive the demise of Confurence that was re-appropriated by Califur's board of directors.
There's also the con book. All past books, relative to other conventions, seemed kind of neat. This year's book, relative to previous years, is the saddest looking book I've ever seen. Even Antheria's book was decent looking. It was pretty much the convention schedule printed up at Kinko's. Hell, I could've done that on my own time. Literally, con schedule, description of events, and where to buy food. Most disappointing book I've ever seen.
Speaking of which, going to the Talk Back, I'm kind of getting the feeling that maybe the con's departments aren't really talking to each other as much as they should.
The fursuit parade wasn't disappointing. The last few parades weren't as well organized as they could be. All other cons have their act together. Plus, the whole having to find furries to actually take the parade photo at the end does not bode well.
And I'm saying this should be fixed not from a fan's point of view, but from a business point of view. They should fix these things. They should retool certain events. They should stop passing the buck and try to accept accountability for the things they should either make better or get rid of.
But in the end, it doesn't really come down to me. It's not my con, it's not my problem, it's not my set of issues that need to be addressed and accepted at my personal responsibility. But I will say this. Speaking from personal experience, internal conflicts that spill over and become visible by attendees (or customers, or whatever), will either put people off, or cause them to turn the other way. And sometimes, you can put some people off for only so long.
And that's my cue to look for better things to do during my time off.

Posted 10 years agoMy dad made mention of wanting to take a vaction. I jokingly replied, 'Like Reno?' To which he replied, 'Yes! Let's get this going!'
If there's one thing I know, and only one thing I know, it's that whenever I go on vacation with family, we usually end up living the 90's sitcom vacation. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but it will without a doubt end up in that direction.
Meme coming soon.

I'm still alive
Posted 11 years agoNo, I haven't died...yet. I've been a bit busy, with work and everything. I have, of course, been in the process of setting up my own little photography business outside of the work I already do. Meaning that if I'm going to succeed in it, I'm going to have to divert all my time away from what would otherwise be unproductive. So, what I'll have to do is go through and finish watching the remaining episodes of Futurama, Star Trek TNG, and Torchwood on Netflix so that I have no more distractions getting in my way.
Califur 2014 Report
Posted 11 years agoOr, I'm going to start my own furry convention. With blackjack and hookers.
Here's my report on Califur, the long and the short of it. Bear with me, I'm doing the best I can.
Unlike previous years, Califur this year didn't feel as fun. Sure, there were a few things going on, but on the whole it didn't feel as if there was anything worth taking away from it.
A con is made up of all the little things, and this year they added up closer to zero than one, really. For instance, I missed the ice cream social. That's a new one. Also, I kissed the fursuit parade, because I just happened to get back from lunch when it was already in full force. And who the hell schedules a one-hour fursuit photo shoot to conflict with the parade. (Was there even a photo shoot? That's my question.). It may seem like nitpicking, but you have to keep in mind that even Rain Furrest got that figured out by the time its third rolled around in 2009.
Another small detail: The steal at the GoH lunch seemed kind of tough, and inconsistently cooked between medium-rare and well done. But that's more on hotel staff than anything. I had the ticket to the cabaret, but it's pointless in going. Nothing fun to watch there. And, suffice it to say, I miss when Califur actually had a variety show. Yes, yes, Furry Night Live is defunct, but there's no reason why something that's one-off can't take its place.
Also, being told constantly to turn off my camera upon entering the dealer's den. The first time is a given, even when the sign staring 'No Photography' was in plain sight. But after 3 or 4 times, it begins to get hilarious, so to speak. Especially after having to get a badge which showed that I really am a furry, and not a member of the media, and that the rules were clearly spelled out for me. That, plus the fact that I did see someone walking about with their own Google Glass. I'm not saying, I'm just saying. (Still, these sorts of rules didn't stop BuzzFeed from showing up and covering the convention.)
That's really all I care to say. Because if I'm taking time off from reality, I'm sure as hell gonna get some marginal utility out of it. Next time, I may just stay home or, if I'm up to it, attending another convention around that time. Like FWA. Or BLFC.
(Also, in before someone says, 'Califur is just the PS with booze, sex, and a program book for the low, low price of the cost of admission.')

20 Fursuit Portraits by Califur
Posted 12 years agoI had an idea during Fur Con. A challenge, as it were. I was thinking of taking portraits of twenty different fursuiters by Califur. If I succeed, I shall fursuit at Califur the entire weekend.
You heard me right, fuzzbutts. If I can successfully take portraits of 20 different fursuiters, then I shall treat you all to one long run of me fursuiting the entire weekend, sleep and food notwithstanding. The only question is, who will I suit up as? There lies the surprise. I'll keep an updated list below to act as a progress bar.
Now, in order to pull this off, I'm going to need a lot of cooperation from the fandom to make this happen. If you want your portrait taken in suit, let me know so we can work something out. If not, that's cool. I'll appreciate the signal boost.
[EDIT] All portraits will be PG-rated. In other words, if you can't get away with it at Sears, it won't fly by with me.

I need enough confidence to do that, in or out of suit.

Only when I'm in suit.
Can I buy you things:
Yes!
Best communication medium to reach you:
Text or DM me on Twitter

Taking pictures. I'll definitely be taking the T2i, although I am tempted to take up my 7D and do with that what I did with FC 2008 - take a butt-ton of pictures.
Is there anything else:
Yeah. No touchie. >.>
Also, no drama. >.>

Time for a change of pace
Posted 12 years agoSeeing as how I haven't uploaded anything original in a while, now's as good a time as any to change that. Meaning that, in the spirit of Fursuit Friday, I'll aim to upload a new picture of me in fursuit, or one of my fursuits, every Friday. So, seeing that we're already at Monday, I have four days to take plan out, photograph, edit, and upload something new. As I'm not attending MFF, I'll have something new this week. I'll start this project off simple, and grow it out in complexity as it starts to take off.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be off to get this thing started.

Belated Rain Furrest 2013 Journal
Posted 12 years agoSorry for the late journal. Work and everything.
I went to Rain Furrest. It was alright. I drove straight there and drove straight back, which, considering I started in San Diego, was a hell of a drive. 38 straight hours of staying awake could not kill me. Perhaps I should try it again next year. I could have slept part of the way, but it was a manual transmission, and my co-pilot was an automatic driver. :P
I will admit it may have been a bit bumpy this year. I'm not going to cross it off my list yet, at least until I have next year to compare it to. Which reminds me, I might have to cross Califur off my list of usual conventions. Justifiable, since one year I was yelled at by con staff for having a DSLR (and I'm not living that one down, no siree).
Anyway. More images to be uploaded soon. Here's the link for my Picasa album - https://picasaweb.google.com/116613.....ainFurrest2013.

Possibility of opening up to do fursuit portraits
Posted 12 years agoI'd previously entertained the idea of doing fursuit portraits. I say this because, as fun as it is to do fursuit self-portraits, that sort of thing isn't always an easy thing to do in terms of both putting on my fursuit and taking the picture. Plus, I want to be able to improve my skills while offering other fursuiters a couple of really decent portraits as a fair exchange. It's pretty much a win-win kind of deal.
These are a few of the things I have in mind as to what I'd like to do: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10815580/, http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9524712/, http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7999999/, http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10479091/, http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8072007/.
Right now, I'm only going to be doing this in the southern California area (up to Santa Barbara and maybe out to Imperial), and maybe Las Vegas and Phoenix, and only on Sundays because that's my one day off. There a few exceptions, including perhaps doing this at future conventions (Rain Furrest and Further Confusion coming up), and either the PS or Frolic (if I can get that Saturday off).
Like I say, if you're feeling up to this, let me know and I'm sure we can work something out.

Rascal will be out of commission for a while
Posted 12 years agoAs stated in the title, Rascal will be out of commission for a while. There was a situation in a park where a slight bit of damage had occurred. So, until I can figure out a way to get it fixed, I won't be suiting up as Rascal for a good long time. I can only hope that the damage can be fixed in time to continue in the fursuit tourney.
