dopts in this folder labeled as "delisted"?
they're $15 off (doesn't stack with the vacation sale)
So that means you can pick them up starting at $20.

admin issues
Posted 6 years agoadmin "FIX YOUR GALLERY OR YOU SHALL BE PERMANENTLY REMOVED"
me "thanks for zero heads up about it. I did a cleanse, but I don't trust you. Can you at least look over my gallery to see if it complies?"
admin "WE DO NOT AUDIT GALLERIES ... BUT YOU MAY SUBMIT TICKETS IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS"
So yeah, unless I submit the ticket myself I'm victim to the whims of the admin who reviews it.
Ok, if you see my gallery get canned - you'll know what happened.

general health update
Posted 6 years agoTL;DR = 95% sure I have rheumatoid arthritis.
Sever pain's been causing more "off days" from work than I'd like to admit.
I submitted about 7 vials of bloodwork yesterday to verify, and I'll post an update when it comes back.
the long version
here's everything as to why I'm thinking it's the case.
- the joint pain and everything else has been going on since about 2015
- I'm in the age range where this sets on
- personal physical trainer (which I hired to try and get my mobility back to a more normal life setting) said that all my symptoms lined up with her other auto-immune patients
- a parent was recently diagnosed with it (caught it early enough to where treatment is effective), so hereditary bonus
- currently I'm having focus-wiping migrating pains randomly throughout my entire body
Add all that on top of the usual fatigue, stress, chronic depression, etc - yay.
So yeah, went in for a physical yesterday. Otherwise good health, they ran some normal tests ... but they submitted the bloodwork for specific rheumatoid arthritis (and a couple other specific auto-immune related diseases).
There's the toxic-positivity outlook of "it could be worse, I know an uncle who had his balls gnawed off by a badger. you're not that guy, toughen up". But yeah, that's why i'm not as productive as I'd prefer.
As always, I appreciate your patience. But if it's not panning out for you, just send me a note. I legitimately am willing to either refund or barter any outstanding commissions that you don't want to wait for any more.

This account will probably get deleted by admins
Posted 6 years agoI'm just giving everyone advanced warning. 8\
So yeah, that bullshit ban I had...
Firstly, I asked for a grace period to make sure my account was in order before anyone could jump in and get a total closure on it. Here's the reply I got...
"I have had clemency on your offense and given you 2 weeks to ensure your gallery is compliant."
... incorrect grammatical usage of the word clemency (which is a word that's been popping up in news stories lately) to me indicates that whomever this admin is ... is a total leftist sheeple. You can be taken more seriously if you use big fancy words, after all. And I specifically call out leftist-sheeple since that demographic is currently the most petty and prone to use bans as revenge.
To cover my back I've asked admin to review my gallery so that I can get an email stating that it's in good standing with the ToS. Despite 2 attempts I haven't heard back.
So, I'm pretty sure they'll stretch the vague ToS terms to justify a ban on me.
I'll carry on assuming they won't ... but I figure it's worth warning everyone that in case you don't see my gallery here that's why.

yiff.party stealing from patreon

found out about this today, passing it on to the rest of you
some jackass has been using the "import site" button on yiff.party to post everything into this page on public.
If you run a patreon, please check to find your page, then file a DMCA with the owners.
Also spread the word to other patreon artists you know so that they can address this issue.

I had a temporary ban! Follow me elsewhere
Posted 6 years agoSo yeah, I was banned for a week.
And what's more, they gave me a FINAL WARNING without any prior communications.
I'm pretty damned sure I offended someone with connections on this inbred site.
Any rate, I'm in the process of "cleaning up" my account ... but I'm fairly confident it'll get deleted in 2 weeks. With the state of the internet as it is, it's an effective way to get petty revenge on someone you don't like.
As such, here's links to my other galleries

a disturbing lack of villains in general media
Posted 7 years agothe title is a bit of clickbait, apologies there, as it is overt exaggeration ... however it is a simple notion that I've been mulling over lately.
As per usual, this is a literary criticism journal, but it's also tied to some existential political/religious commentary. Obviously this is inescapable because literature (at its best) is itself commentary on society.
Being said...
One thing that you see crop up on multiple occassions, as of late, is a general lack to have a strong villain who flat out chooses to be evil. That or they soften, humanize, and even flatout justify evil actions.
(and I'm not jumping on the BAD MCU VILLAIN hype train because when you ask proponents of that to actually DEFINE what they're talking about they ramble about Disney destroys everything because they're evil and corporationy)
It's a complicated problem and there's a lot of different angles it can go. So ... firstly, to get it out of the way first here's the counter-point...
Syndrome is best villain. Fight me. You've all seen Incredibles, and if you're not smart enough to figure out how the following relate to the good execution of Syndrome you should go get smarter.
Being said, here's a few examples regarding bad villains ...
a) They aren't actually bad.
- Firstly, this is a fault of the naive "innate goodness of mankind" philosophy. The concept that society stains people, and that people aren't to blame for become corrupt but rather society (don't think about it too hard you'll go crosseyed).
- Rephrasing first point - they don't want to be seen as judgemental because we don't know their story and maybe they were wrong place, whatever
- The big problem with the first point is that it's... it's bad. Going all the way back to Greek Tragedy - bad circumstances happen to everyone. But if you feel sad because bad things, that's just pathos and actually a pretty shitty story. Classic tragedy happens when people make bad decisions. That's where the real problem goes more into play is the free will of the individual against the tides of fate. In a more modern context what you'll see is fate pushing against two people in the same way, then those two people behaving very differently.
- Secondly, moral relativism
- moral ethical bankruptcy? how dare I bring that into question about story telling! ... after all, Hollywood is a sanctum of activists and purity. 8I
- Right, anyways...
- Either that or people want to be like the literary critic's interpretation of their favorite author and question "everything"
- when you're not willing to pass a judgement against a character for being evil you ultimately defang them. And I don't mean PUNISHMENT ... rather the ethical judgement that they are in fact bad people.
- Incredibles 2 didn't really do too much about flat out condemning their villain, and Screen Slaver ultimately fell into the crowd
- Contemporary contrast: Kingpin and Prowler from Spider-verse both had understandable motives, but were also condemned for their actions
- Understandable motives v sympathy
- again, moral relativism. Basically "everything is ok because who are we to say something is bad. In fact, I think the good guys are bad for saying other people are bad!"
- Again, it's the difference between kingpin/prowler and ... honestly Killmonger. End of the day, the director was kinda saying Killmonger was right, which oddly both weakens T'Challa as a hero and Killmonger as a villain.
- Loki is a solid contrast. He never really receives the punishment he probably deserves. But while there is sympathy shown for him, he's never justified in his actions. As such he's generally regarded, still, as MCU's best villain.
- The Right Villain for the Right Story
- One size doesn't fit all (kinda breaks stride, but it's applicable)
- While I can rip on a lot of recent Disney films for bad villains... some of them work fine without (imo)
- Frozen's production history totally forced evil cis white males into an out-of-place theme in the story, that's bad
- the film prior, Tangled, didn't need a STRONG villain and was better off for not having one. Ultimately the story was about internal change and bucking off past shackles. Gothel and the robber brothers both fit that necessity, even if they had pretty limited screen time.
- Another underrated villain is Hela from Thor Ragnarok. Yes, she was straight up Rita Repulsa Power Rangers (and that really only hindered her at the film's climax) ... but that's not what the story was about. Really, the story was about Thor having another grow up session and he had a ton of growth ... off the likes of Loki and Hulk. Hela, Surtur, and Grandmaster were really just devastating hindrances and they fit that role to a T (Grandmaster and Surtur didn't overextend themselves, hence them being the best recieved).
- It's arguable that Gaston from animated Beauty and the Beast also got pushed a bit too far. He went from loveble asshole to murderous freak in a single scene.
and so, CYA time - Syndrome and how he fits into this
- Syndrome is flat out evil, and he himself explains where he went sour
- There's no question the film's stance, especially when Syndrome himself states the very scornful commentary on feel-good society "When everyone is special, no one will be"
- understanding v sympathy - in spades
- perfect villain for the story. Syndrome had enough screen presence to command the set piece spectacle. But more importantly his own internal conflict perfectly mirrored Bob's. (this connectivity is largely absent in most 'bad mcu' villains, and especially in screen slaver.)
There's a lot more to it, but that's the sort of jist of it.
And really it kinda stems to a core philosophical belief you need to ditch: don't go for moral relativism, since it will stain your works.

General update
Posted 7 years agoI got an off-strand of flu. Silver lining is no nasal/cough stuff. Downside is perpetual body aches and extreme fatigue (doesn't take long for me to simply need a nap to recover).
It's actually bad enough to where I've had a bit of brain-fog (ya know, pain-caused-mental-impairment). Just makes it next to impossible to get in a groove and get consistent work done in stretches.
Unfortunately, as far as I can tell it's a virus. So all I can really do is take OTCs and hope for the best.
Also been dealing with the usual other assortments (depression, emotional stress, family health issues, etc) on top of that.
So yeah, I am working on goals ... it's just a bit more difficult than I'd like.
As always = refunds are available if you'd rather not wait. No worries there and I totally understand. As well, thanks for your patience.

passing conversation
Posted 7 years agojust an excerpt from one of my brothers.
he's working at a fairly fast paced tech company in the sales department. They had a competition and recently won...
"So yeah, the contest factored in a lot of things ... enough so to where it basically measured productivity and effectiveness. So ... calls logged, work put in, deals closed, feedback ratings, etc. It was pretty comprehensive so it wasn't exactly something you could game.
Thing is, I'm not a sales guy. I transferred into this job from tech coding department in my last company. So really I should have been at a disadvantage compared to all the seasoned sales professionals.
... except for the fact that everyone else in my department are millennials ... and you hardly have to put in any effort to work harder than them. I won heads and shoulders above everyone else."
So yeah, you may want to question that education you're getting if you don't have any elbowgrease in ya.

oddly specific question - large mouse
Posted 7 years agoDoes anyone have a recommendation for a good mouse for someone with large hands.
it's oddly specific, yes, but I'm dealing with a bit of an issue. An old mouse of mine pooped out, so I got a new one via Amazon. Didn't read the product specs and it's about half the size. Month into using it my hand's cramping a bit.
Thing is, at 6'5" my hands are fairly large and my fingers long. That means a lot of mouse designs are too small.
So ...
Do you have a good recommend for an oversized mouse?

minor change to Clearance Dopts
Posted 7 years agoSo ... I'm changing how Clearance works for these dopt sets. (this is part of just the usual periodic updates and revision to make the process run more smoothly)
DOPT SETS WILL ONLY BE ON CLEARANCE FOR 3 DAYS.
so, today this set went on clearance
https://www.deviantart.com/jonfreem.....ANCE-776410005
In order to give it 3 full days it will END on the 18th. (as in, morning of 18th I change it over)
So yeah, if you're waiting around for dopts to go on clearance ... you're putting yourself up for a bit of a gamble. The price you pay for the price and all that.

Regarding the subscription offering ...
Posted 7 years agoI'd appreciate honest input/feedback here.
I'm just looking for ways to provide value and interest in my subscription offering.
I tried the weekly pin-ups with exclusive alts for a bit over a month and ... unfortunately not enough return on investment to merit continuing on that path.
So yeah, what would you like to see?
and what would entice you to subscribe if you haven't already.
Cheers!
- Jon
p.s. I still don't trust Patreon, given their recent bannings of conservative pundits ... and the fact that I recieved an ADULT CONTENT access restriction, with no explanation, within an hour of publicly criticizing their management of the payment debacle ... absolutely no reason to assume I won't get kicked off by the deep-left-NPCs of the staff.

Commissions re-opened - also alternate payment
Posted 7 years agoI've been asked a little more frequently lately about commissions ... so I set it back up.
Commission Options
$30 - Flat color bust drawing like so: https://www.deviantart.com/joncomms.....ebee-773314315
$50 - Flat color full body drawing like so: https://www.deviantart.com/jonfreem.....aper-777355561
Shading is available, just ask for more info on that front.
These prices are listed on a PER-CHARACTER basis.
I do offer multiple character discounts (up to 2 additional characters) if it falls under the following rules...
- characters are physically interacting
- characters are visually overlapping
I'll make final judgment call on this one (before purchase) if it qualifies or not. As well, making the call on what that adjusted price would be.
Custom Character Design is available, starting at +$10 to the price (this is dependent on the complexity, amount of back-and-forth, and revisions needed).
General rules:
- You must have visual references for your characters. Otherwise it will be probably be considered "Custom Character Design"
- Delivery will be slow, please keep that in mind upfront
- No nudity, keep it generally as sfw as what you regularly see in my gallery
- Also do mind that I largely don't do fetish work. No harm in asking politely, but the answer is probably no.
- I do reserve Artist's Right of Refusal. This means I do have the right to decline work without having to explain myself.
Additionally with regards to payment, I have added an alternative to Paypal - an amazon wishlist
https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/.....invite/fKWLBF2
If you want to go this route, please notify me first. That was we can work out a barter for fair trade (this owing to none of the amazon list prices being the round numbers I price my products at)
p.s. Obviously if I already owe you something these commissions won't override priority. I'm just putting this option on the table since I've been asked a few times.

final reminder - buy-2-get-1-free deal ends
Posted 7 years agohttps://www.deviantart.com/jonfreem.....14th-775870355
As a final reminder this promo will end tomorrow. (as in, Saturday will be too late).
To recap what the deal is...
Buy 2 dopts, get a 3rd free. (the third has to be equal or lesser value to the cheapest of the paid 2)
If that math/wording feels a bit confusing, approach it from this angle ...
- select 3 dopts. the cheapest one of the 3 is free.
This does apply to all dopts. Including: open, clearance, paired-dopts, group-dopts, delisted, similars, etc.
As way to clarify the "deadline" ... this means you have to place your order by tomorrow at the latest. You don't necessarily have to PAY by tomorrow, but the usual rules regarding delayed payment will be in place (ask if you have questions on that point).
So yeah, that's that. Let me know if you have any questions. And definitely send me a note (dA preferred) if you'd like to cash in.
Thanks again, everyone!

I also added a little FAQ in there. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask

an incident regarding a microwave
Posted 7 years agoStory time.
This is an incident from my brother's workplace...
They had fairly high productivity a 200+ employee tech research firm (my brother being a higher up manager giving him the insight needed to get all the details of this mess. A significant contributing factor was that employees would work through lunch. I.e. everyone would bring food from home, save money, cook in the cafeteria microwaves, and eat at the desk.
With that set-up in mind ...
A SINGLE INDIVIDUAL ...
(who was, not coincidentally, a vocal "rights" type)
... would cook nauseating food. As in "stink up the office and bother everyone else" type food. It was legitimately bad enough that everyone everyone complained to HR.
And mind, an almost universal office policy implemented stateside is "don't cook aromatic foods in the company microwave." If you cook foods, regardless of the reason, and you're bothering other people with the scent: you're breaking the rules because you're lowering office productivity. End of day: if the office isn't as productive, the potential of a big pay raise for all employees gets diminished.
So, the single individual should have been reprimanded and punished accordingly if she kept up abusing microwave rights.
HOWEVER ...
The reason there's a story to be told here is that this HR manager in question was fresh out of college. More importantly, fresh out of college with the liberal-trained mindset (the type that's all about inclusion and fairness and avoiding conflict).
So the HR manager did nothing.
My brother was high enough on the ranks to talk to the HR manager frankly without repercussion, so he did. The HR Manager more or less went on a small rant about not wanting to make conflict (which is bad), not wanting to single out the individual (which is also bad). Though he strongly also suspected that the HR manager didn't want to play the bad-guy and tell off the individual ... owing to of lack of backbone and not wanting to feel bad for criticizing anyone.
(addendum worth noting: my brother is a hiring manager over his own tech division. He basically never hires anyone with a mindset similar to this ... because it typically means the employees won't have the resilience to deal with a high-stress job.)
So the stinky food went on for a while. And complaints kept pouring into HR.
Eventually HR acted.
UNFORTUNATELY ...
Instead of fixing the problem with the one person (at a 200+ employee tech research firm)
They removed the microwaves so that the individual wouldn't feel singled out.
Unsurprisingly productivity took a noticeable drop because nobody ate lunch at their desk, and everyone took generous lunch breaks because screw HR.
A direct quote from my brother (as best I can remember) "thing is, this liberal mindset fears to offend people because confrontation is bad. This is absolutely terrible in business. and because of this [HR Manager's] attitude in my workplace, nobody works through lunch, the second half of the day suffers because everyone is trying to get their minds back into work mode." All because a manager didn't want to enforce an existing policy out of fear of hurting someone's feelings.
So yeah. You can either focus on results (lowered productivity in this case) or focus on feelings (feeling bad because you have to make someone else feel bad).

New Gremlin's Perk - weekly character polls!
Posted 7 years agoI'm gonna run this for a bit, hopefully it'll gain some traction to enable me to keep it going.
But basically, that super cheap $2 Gremlins' Benefits Subscription
http://artofjonfreeman.com/Subscription.html
is getting a new perk! weekly character polls.
Essentially, every week I'll post a new poll. The poll will be for the next week's pin-up.
- so gremlins' get to vote on a medium-sized pinup
- and they'll also get the full-rez of it
In addition, each of these will have an alternate variant. Where applicable, the variant will be quite a bit more risque than the normal ones.
- this variant, however, is Gremlin Exclusive
- they will get the full-rez of it
So yeah, $2 monthly. It's processed via Paypal directly (not the screw-ups at Patreon), which also means you're in direct control over the financing.
Plus, you still get first dibs on all adoptions (meaning you get notified of a set prior to it going public, and you're able to adopt it then with less competition for it).
More benefits will hopefully be added in the future. But that's kinda dependent on getting more subscribers to justify the effort. Any rate, we're going to run this for a month or two and hopefully gain some traction.

minor dopt policy clarification
Posted 7 years agoI've had some particular inquiries from multiple people about the adoption process. Mostly relating to what is and isn't allowed.
As such, I've changed one of the lines in description moving forward regarding this aspect...
" - The adoption is a clean hands transaction. That means you're free to do what you want to, so long your actions don't result in me having to get involved. "
Basically - if I ever have to get involved because of something you did: I'm not going to be a happy camper. I'll deal with the consequences (i.e. what I do to remedy the issue so that it's no longer my problem) when it happens, but it's probably going to be me returning the favor and ruining your week.
If I never end up having to deal with the outcomes of your actions, though, I don't really care what you do. Safest bet, if you're on unsure ground, is just leave my name out of it. That way it's less likely to work its way back to me.

Black Friday coming up - GREMLINS WILL BENEFIT
Posted 7 years agoI'm going to run a couple promos over Black Friday Weekend.
This isn't a crisis sale, just more a "may's well, 'tis the season" type of thing.
As stated in the title, Gremlins will benefit. What this means is that they'll get early access to the promotions this weekend, which may prove VERY useful. wink wink nudge nudge nudge say no more say no more know what i mean
What do I mean by Gremlins?
everyone who's a Gremlin Subscriber, that's who.
Go here for more details -- http://artofjonfreeman.com/Subscription.html
- TLDR: it's like Patreon, but without Patreon's perpetual screw-up-admins, and more of the money goes to the content creator instead of patreon-web-hosts
So yeah, if you want in on the action, sign up today

misadventures
Posted 7 years agoobviously there was a huge flood of dopt sets this past week. That was primarily to play catch-up from missing 3 weeks of work (2 weeks sick, 1 week reunion). I am caught up now, though, so you should be seeing quite a lot of comm completions now.
Disney - Austin Texas ... long rant ...
Posted 7 years agoso ... this is a big one ... that prior journal was in relation to this, but I totally remembered it wrong.
http://static1.1.sqspcdn.com/static.....4NYPJ8mZwHM%3D
So yeah, wasn't on to something amazing.
Still though, the following is largely based on a lengthy conversation I had with a friend yesterday. And enough of the stuff checks out to where we would not be surprised if it happened.
==============
history primer ...
- EPCOT is essentially switching to IPcot now (kind of a sour name, but it's basically a shift away from the sponsorship driven perpetual world's fair ... that isn't a valid economic model any more ... to one featuring Disney's own IPs) ... and how really this is just that shift to the new park that was proposed back in the 90s ... but Eisner turned it down over financial strains (Pairs failure eating into the world wide park budget ... which still isn't doing amazing)
- thing is, this kinda adds up with a lot of other things that have been going on in Florida and why those parks kinda started to fall behind badly (Hollywood studios' own weird financial transition with MGM ... sections of Magic Kingdom florida STILL having the 1970s carnival faire plastic tents that Disneyland had, etc).
- additionally ... the china parks haven't been as successful as hoped for either (in spite of how much I want to ride Mystic Manor). There's some analysis there, but that's a long rant.
recent history ... (why a 3rd US park)
- thing is, Florida has generally been pretty quiet, development wise ... historically speaking. They had that massive expansion with Animal Kingdom and MGM back in the 90s ... but since then it slowed way down.
- but ... - the past 3-4 years it's just been EVERYTHING FLORIDA in terms of news. within 3 years Hollywood park's gonna be a experience all together (with the somewhat surprise announcement this past month of the Cars experience next to Aerosmith). That massive investment of the Skytram system (which I'm sure they're hoping is a valid replacement for the bus fleet ... and will probably expand to all properties) ... the New Fantasy Land (Be Our Guest, the Restrooms, Minecart Ride, Aerial's Grotto) is slowly engulfing Magic Kingdom ... oh yeah, Muppets 3D in Hollywood Studios got a digital remaster, and I noticed a new gag building behind one of the barricades (possibly the discarded muppets land of yore with their version of the movie ride?).
- any way, this is just a HUGE investment...
- so in my friend's words "Disneyland is really a uniquely American Experience ... when you water it down enough to suit foreign tastes it just doesn't work" (japan being an exception, but history there outside scope of this convo)
Part 3 of the rant ... the Anaheim woes of Success ...
- They hit capacity more than any other Disney park - yay money! boo customer experience!
- it's part of why they keep raising prices ... and they've been a bit open about it ... they're just trying to keep it from being flooded ALL THE TIME.
- I mean, Club 33? you may as well buy able to afford buying a new car every year before applying
- It's most clear when you look at the regular annual pass for Disney. https://disneyland.disney.go.com/pa.....lockout-dates/ ... the entry level Season Pass (which isn't cheap) has blackout dates basically EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND, and almost the entirety of December ... which isn't that great.
- it's also been affecting what constitutes as "local discount" ... at this point it's basically Anaheim only (which when I was a kid I think it included the entirety of the LA region) ... they keep having to do this because of capacity issues. 8I
... so yeah, if there was a way to get the crowds to Disneyland anything lesser ... a 3rd US park complex would probably work
Part 4 ... location ...
- first off ... weather ... it needs to be warm year round to avoid seasonal openings. That keeps it down to the southern half of the continental ... but not too hot (sorry Arizona ... but I don't think 120 degree summers are good for theme parks)
- Longitude ... obviously middle of the US somewhere those two factors basically create a curved band between California and Florida. Walt was insanely gutsy buying up 48 square miles of undeveloped Florida swampland. But Walt was just plain nuts (in a good way). ... I'm kinda thinking current management would play it safer if they built a 3rd park in the US.
Part 5 ... location part 2
... So, me and my friend are thinking Austin Texas. Here's some of the reasons why ... (and please remember this is just business analysis, I'm saying all this with polite intent)
- Hurricanes is an advantage that Austin has over the rest of the South ... they don't have hurricanes. That's also an advantage they have over Dallas.
- Austin's surrounding area is largely flat. ... which for construction means you don't have to spend so much money grading it. (I live in SLC, and when they wanted to build a soccer stadium, it meant they had to dig the whole thing out of the ground since there's a 30% grade almost everywhere here). Also lower water table in Austin means a vertical (downward) Disney that Anaheim enjoys.
- Infrastructure! Texas is more than happy to build highways left and right in order to keep everything running smoothly. Airports and everything else means that if Disney were to drop the Mouse Bomb there ... Texas would actually be able to withstand the population blast.
Local population wealth: due to reasons outside scope of convo ... Texas has always had a very good business presence. Means a lot of wealthy families locally and whatnot. So that alone's gonna help out. The San Antonio riverwalk (very close to austin) is a good example of the business environment.
- Plus Austin is reasonably close to Anaheim ... so they'll be able to draw away some of the Western US crowd (especially Arizona and Utah ... which every time I'm in Disneyland I run into at least four fellow Utah college-schwag wearing groups per day). ... which business cannibalization they actually need.
... so yeah, that's why we're thinking Austin's where disney SHOULD put the next park
