help request to Disney Park nerds
Posted 7 years agoso ... I'm a big disneypark nerd. and there's a lot of reasons behind it (mostly I'm not pretentious enough to hate the man who's better off than myself).
but that's not the point, I'm actually reaching out to fellow disney park nerds.
In one of the World of Disney stores (either Anaheim or Orlando) there was a fairly significant mural.
https://www.bing.com/th?id=OIP.5g_Y.....Fj&pid=Api
this is the only snippet of it I could find.
It was a world map with a red line that connected all the Disney parks and resorts together.
Talking to a friend last night I remembered that there was an odd detail on this map ... which I'm realizing may be a future-hint-easter-egg that imagineers tend to embed everywhere. ... but I need a full size picture of this to confirm.
SO
if you're an expert internet diver, please help me find a full shot of this.
Thank you!

sales still going on - financial update
Posted 7 years agohttps://www.deviantart.com/jonfreem.....omos-763989279
so above is all the promos going on. lots of good stuff.
here's a good way to summarize how it went ...
https://media.tenor.com/images/e353.....ddee/tenor.gif
"at least the car didn't hit me."
I dodged the mega bullet that was going to wipe me out ... but I still fell behind.
Fortunately, I'm back in the saddle and I'll be back to that higher output I tend to do.
Again - serious thanks to everyone who's helped out so far!
I'm not taking your contributions for granted, and things are definitely a lot better than they would be had I not received those hail-mary orders. So sincerely thanks again!

Dopt Policy Rule Change - First Look First Dibs
Posted 7 years agoThis one's important, so I'm bouncing it everywhere.
and upfront, here's the Gremlins' Benefits Subscription I'll be mentioning --> http://artofjonfreeman.com/Subscription.html
Starting immediately (next set moving forward) I'm changing out the Gremlins' Subscription bonus works.
- as a recap, it FORMERLY was that patrons/gremlins would have first dibs on the first day, everyone else could place 2nd dibs
HOW IT WILL WORK NOW
- Gremlin Subscribers will receive an email a day prior to the set being posted
- As such, they'll also have an exclusive venue to snag up dopts before they hit the open market (this means general public won't be on the awares)
- Then, the morning after they're completed, the dopts will be posted. At this point they're just free-for-all first claimed first served
AGAIN
- gremlin subscribers still get a first day adoption advantage
- once they're posted on dA, it's a free-for-all
- there is NO LIMIT on how many dopts you can get from a set
So yeah, that's the new rules/procedure. Here's the logic behind the changes
- It's a lot more straight forward
- It's also a lot less regulated/bureaucratic
- Exclusive information is now a perk of being a Gremlin Subscriber: you get to find out and lay dibs on dopts before they hit the open market
- It also allows for a much more natural flow: things get dopted when they get dopted.
- And you can buy out the entire set before it even hits the public.
If you're interested in becoming a subscriber, you can here --> http://artofjonfreeman.com/Subscription.html
Likewise if you have any questions, feel free to ask! :D

my patreon is now ADULT CONTENT
Posted 7 years agoHMMM...
so after I posted a journal this morning stating that I didn't get my funding worth ... and I asked people to spread the word about this ...
Patreon admins flagged my account as ADULT CONTENT shortly after
... yeah, they don't have any established trust with me. I'm pretty sure this is a petty revenge tactic because I might potentially undermine artist/patron trust in the website.

FOR ALL OTHER PATREON ARTISTS - QUESTION
Posted 7 years ago So, I checked my PayPal balance and I never recieved full payment from August
I looked on my Patreon patron-manager and it states all transactions went through.
SUSPICIOUS.
I want to know if other patreon creators found this out as well.
And if you're just a patron/supporter, please ask the other people you follow.
I want to make sure that Patreon didn't just pocket the damned funds of my clients. Because I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Regarding Patreon & why I'm shutting it down
Posted 7 years agoAs many of you heard - Patreon screwed over artists last month due to their gross incompetence. I lost about 20-30% of my month's income over this.
Today, 3 weeks after the debacle (which is late), Patreon sent out a letter to all content creators on the subject matter.
Frankly the letter pissed me off and made me lose all confidence in the company.
- the first half of the letter was basically this giant ode to their company's Moral Code. Talking about how artists are wonderful, they support artists, artists should support them, kumbaya, all that shit.
... I don't care about that. I just want a platform that'll serve my needs.
I also don't buy it. Not after that idiot move last year that caused a minor exodus as small-time content creators got shafted over Patreon's "service fee structure".
- the second half was where they talked about the reasons why it happened ... except they didn't talk about why it happened. Instead they said SUPER VAGUE terms like "well, we have several transaction partners, some of them we're trying to work with." and they gave zero indication that they actually knew how to fix it.
- so yeah, they kinda just showed they really have no right in trying to business.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
- I'm setting up my own "subscription" service via my PayPal business account and via MailChimp.
- I'll likely flatten it out to $2 monthly and just have the single offering: higher rez pics on everything, alternate takes here and there, discord channel, and the adopter's advantage.
- That way everything just lands in my own bank account and I don't have Patreon taking their cut AND screwing me over with their misadventures in learning how to business.
- I'll PROBABLY force cancel all pledges before month's end (there's an outside chance Patreon gets whiplash and will actually openly address the issue). I mean, Patreon's unreliable anyway. It's better to just cut your losses then HOPE something goes through and get let down.
So yeah. There's that horseshit.

edit: here's the letter in full. Mind you read it from my perspective: analyze in between the lines and see whether or not they actually have a plan on keeping this from happening in the future.
Hi creators,
When it comes to payments, some of you have experienced some turbulence, and I want to share with you what’s been happening and why.
Let’s start with the why — our mission is to fund the creative class, and we’re doing everything possible to ensure creators can scale their memberships on Patreon. We excitedly serve creators and patrons in over 100 countries, so it’s critical that we invest deeper in our payments infrastructure and make smart decisions about the partners we choose.
In payment processing specifically, we have the following goals:
Reliability. Get creators their money on time, every time.
Support creators across the globe. This includes supporting multiple currencies and additional payment methods down the road.
Reduce payment transaction fees. Payment partners price their products differently, and we work with multiple payment partners so that we can aggressively negotiate on your behalf to minimize transaction fees. We also aggregate payments into the fewest possible transactions so that we can reduce transaction fees for creators and patrons.
Support all of the art you make. Art challenges the status quo, lives on the fringes, and pushes society forward. As an arts company, we see it as our job to ensure that as much of it as possible can be funded. Where this gets challenging is that not all of our payment partners view the world and definitions of art the same way. This misalignment forces us to move quickly and make changes to protect creator income. At times, this has resulted in some creators experiencing inconsistency on Patreon.
The reality is that the inconsistencies you’ve seen are the result of us workingfor you, never against you, to make the necessary changes that ensure your art can continue being funded on Patreon.
Here are the recent changes you may have noticed:
We quickly added new payment partners so that we could continue processing payments for as many Patreon creators as possible. One of these partners is a UK-based payment processor. This change helped us save thousands of creators' incomes, and it also represents an important step in supporting international transactions better than before. The main downside, however, is that it created higher declines in some cases. Most of those declines have been resolved, but we're still working around the clock to get the remaining declined cards in good standing.
We audited all Patreon pages for content to ensure it was within our guidelines. We always reviewed Patreon pages, but we increased the coverage and speed of our proactive reviews. We work one on one with every creator under review to bring their page back within our guidelines and restored on Patreon as quickly as possible.
We launched 18+ age confirmation for mature content pages to ensure that we had the proper measures in place to provide a safe platform for all users.
To be honest, it’s been difficult to communicate these changes. Out of respect for our partners and our agreements with them, there are details that we contractually cannot disclose, even today, which makes it challenging to discuss specifics. What I want you to know is that our top company metric is yourincome. We show up to work because we want to fund the creative class andget you paid, so any changes Patreon makes to our payments are made so that we can send as much money as possible to artists and creators around the world.
We have and will continue to put the systems and infrastructure in place to be your stable, recurring, financial rock so that you can do what you do best — create.
Thank you,

favor to ask of anyone who knows lupercawolf
Posted 7 years agolong story short: they got a similar-dopt from me named Lynn Fowler.
Unfortunately FA's note system is absolute garbage. I can't find the original note for this issue.
I need someone to ask LupercaWolf what the details were for Lynn Fowler's similar (i.e. who they were based on, special requests, etc). Apparently they blocked me, so I'm having to resort to this.
Thanks in advance.

Price Drop - Clearance and Delisted Dopts
Posted 7 years agosimple changes, but it's definitely worth noting.
First off, the lowest price option for dopts on Clearance has dropped down to $15.
- as way of explanation, dopts are placed on clearance for a week before becoming delisted. If you look in this folder you'll see those sets clearly labeled with a yellow sticker
https://www.deviantart.com/jonfreem.....Adoptable-Sets
Secondly, the adoption price for Delisted dopts is down to $20.
- as way of explanation, this is basically all the older sets. A dopt will go from open for a while (usually at least a month), then to Clearance for a week, then to delisted).
- So it's cheaper ... but the best time to bargain hunt a dopt is when it's on clearance
- You can view all the delisted dopts in this folder
https://www.deviantart.com/jonfreem.....doptables-sets
So yeah, I feel it's worth mentioning my shopping tips for these dopts.
- Sales are EXTREMELY spikey. Sometimes a set will sell out completely in under an hour, sometimes the whole thing won't sell at all.
- Owing to that, it's very unpredictable when dopts will go.
- If you're interested in a dopt, I do strongly advise against hesitation for longer than necessary. Those who can't decide usually go without (because someone else snags it)
- If you're on a budget, the best route is to watch my dA account and wait for sets to go on Clearance sale. you might not get everything you want (due to others jumping in), but you'll at least get a good price.
Cheers!
- Jon
p.s. not exactly in your favor, but it's worth mentioning. Similar dopts have been normalized across the board to $35 each (to match the new-dopt sale price).
- if you're unfamiliar with what similar dopts are, send me a tell and I'll explain.

Chris McQuarrie to direct Star Wars
Posted 7 years agonever.
so, first off... go see Mission Impossible - Fallout.
It's a genius film and deserves all the love it can get. I kinda think it was the most entertaining "I want to see that again" film this year.
And what's better is that Chris McQuarrie took the Raiders approach to making this film: cook up some absolutely amazing set-pieces, revel in it, then construct a story to make it happen.
So ... that's what we'd want in a Star Wars spin-off, right?
...
well
...
https://lrmonline.com/news/mission-.....ilm-guess-why/
As you can read here: the director doesn't want to risk his career doing anything with Star Wars because of the toxic entrenched fanbase.
So yeah = top tier talent is being driven away because of how fans treated Rian Johnson. And I doubt he's the only one who's like this.
Congrats, spoiled brat fanboys!
p.s. I patiently await the hatemail from the people who only ever reach out to me when I post a journal about Star Wars.
p.p.s. I also patiently await the fanboys who go out of their way to defame Chris McQuarrie in a petty attempt to prove that they aren't in the wrong.

pricing change heads up for dopts
Posted 7 years agoTL;DR = all dopt prices will increase by +$5. This will be done via soft roll-out, primarily so I can get the art assets for the games I'm working on kicked out.
Hopefully this will be the last one for a good while, but looking at expenses I've made the hard decision to increase the price slightly for dopts across the board.
That being said, here's the reason why ...
- I'm pushing myself to get some games finally completed before september: an app for the Google Play Store (which will be a live app) and a VN
- In order to give myself enough breathing room to complete these two projects, I need to increase the price on my dopts slightly (i.e. shorten the time I need to do bill-pay work to get more time for project-work).
Any rate, hopefully it's understandable, and I've tried to reduce sticker shock as much as possible.
So yeah, as mentioned in the TL;DR it's a $5 price increase across the board. This will be implemented via that soft roll-out I used last time: it will only affect new sets until the first of these gets put to delisted, then the price will get reflected backwards.
- it won't affect delisted or clearance prices, tho. That'll remain the same.
- it will eventually affect similar dopt pricing (just to make it even across the board).
Any rate, again, thanks again to everyone for the support. And hopefully you'll be able to play some games created by my teammates and myself.

very minor policy change - pending payments
Posted 7 years agothis one's really straight forward and it'll be implemented moving forward
- If you have anything unpaid, you can't place new orders
That also goes for dopts. So if there's anything in the unpaid bin, you need to take care of it before you can adopt more characters.
thanks~!

Congrats fanboys! No more Star Wars spinoff films
Posted 7 years agoSo, solo underperfomed in the Box Office.
- Largely due to the fanboy boycott
- Also due to the horrendous scheduling, it really should have just collected dust until fall
So, Disney being business smart...
All spin-off films are now shelved.
And now it's time for the fanboy reaction that will fall into 1 of 2 camps
- back peddling and naively saying "I DIDN'T WANT IT TO END"
- doubling down on stupid "YEAH, SUCK IT DISNEY!"
Any rate, congrats to all of you fan boys. Good job there.

an apology
Posted 7 years agothe last journal I posted had a line that came across as much ruder than intended.
Apologies on that point.
That being said, here's a clarified version.
=========
I have to post this here owing to an incident in the past, but here we go...
- I try to limit myself to answer replies once per day on journals and submissions and what have you, usually trying to keep it to under 15 minutes
- This is due to the insane work demands I have (you've seen my output rate, you can extrapolate from there ... it's also worth noting I only tend to write these journals when I'm not well enough to work ... so yeah, those who can do those who can't journal, I guess?)
- I do read all the comments
- Unfortunately I don't have time to reply to all of them, especially the ones that would take a lot of time to reply to.
- When I said last time about replying to comments that "impress me" ... while I used an unfortunate elitist terminology it actually ... well, kinda brass tacks hits that same qualification. If it's a notable comment I'll be more likely to reply.
Here's the point that got me really soured on the whole thing and why it had a condescending tone
...
I'll just post the short version
- If you have a grudge with me because I didn't reply to you previously? GET OVER IT.
==========
so ... HOPEFULLY ... that came across more as friendly - but still kinda clarified the points I was making
- I may not reply to you, even if I read your comments
- If you're angry, please just leave
Apologies on that point.

Because the internet works ...
I can now point to this video and say "ha, I am not alone. And here's a guy who speaks articulately and has a youtube video. He's also explaining what I've been saying."
Because that's what it takes in order to get someone to listen to you on the internet. Because we're an advanced society.
And you will listen because it's a youtube video. and it references memes. and boy howdy do people love memes in 2018.
... seriously, though. My own biting cynicism and hatred of how internet culture works aside, watch the video.
He's very well spoken, rips shallow criticisms, shows a lot of what's going on, etc, etc, etc
He also pointed out a number of things that slipped past me my first time.
And did I mention he rips apart criticisms?
Especially showing the context of criticisms, and especially showing the what ifs?
I'm going to highlight one in particular from someone who supposedly knows better.
the youtube video pulls a Kevin Smith clip saying was disappointed in the end scene of Luke ... and well ... Kevin didn't think it was cool enough.
and if he (kevin smith) were in charge [commentator shows a censored version of the donkey show clip from clerks 2 ... because that's what Kevin Smith is popular for, high skill artwork] ... kevin smith stated
that Luke Skywalker would pull out his lightsaber, deflect those WALKER BLASTER attacks and take out the entire fleet
then somehow get killed by kylo anyway
and, the kicker
Kevin Smith said that the Dooku-Yoda fight scene in Attack of the Clones was a fantastic holy shit amazing moment.
ehem
just to repeat myself
and so that everyone can get a clear view on this praised net-celeb
Kevin Smith said that the Dooku-Yoda fight scene in Attack of the Clones was a fantastic holy shit amazing moment.
and he wanted to replicate that moment's feels with Luke.
ok, so yeah. Go watch the video.
and lastly
... I'm addressing this point because it happened before and I'll say it again here.
- If I didn't reply to you the first time, and you're seeing this and you want to talk more, and you think I'm back talking to you
- it's honestly because I didn't think you were worth replying to in that instance
- I'm not indirectly talking to you. I'm just flat out choosing not to reply to you after reading what you said. And your opinion didn't impress me enough to make a reply
- This is the internet, everyone has something to say, when you get the last word in an argument, the other person probably didn't think you were worth their time
I hate to break the bad news and end this on a sour point, but them's the grapes.

star wars - follow-up
Posted 7 years agoI'll be super quick on this one. But it's a follow-up with 3 points.
...
and I say this knowing full well that people WANT TO SEE STAR WARS FAIL.
I am legitimately saying that. They want to see the franchise fail because they feel betrayed (see point 2) and will stop at nothing to exact their revenge.
the first is to get it out of the way of different treatment by the fanbase
- Infinity War had NANOTECHNOLOGY
frankly, nano-anything is the biggest asspull in writing existence and makes zero sense.
like, thinking about what's needed to actually do it just
UGH
and once introduced you can do anything because NANO.
...
but I haven't seen a single nerd-rage article over it, despite there being legitimate merit to rip on it.
And there's plenty of other points in there, pissing away potential characters, tone breaks, etc.
No, everyone's memeing about not feeling good.
Either that or they write it off about NANOTECHNOLOGY being comic book stuff (ignoring the fact it's an asspull), but they won't give star wars any breaks that fall in the line of its actual genre: pulp novel space fantasy.
OH NOES, I DON'T LIKE INFINITY WAR
- I'm stating this to point out that there's a disparity in measure of criticism between franchises. They aren't being held to the same level of detail.
- This is a big reason why I'm not taking a lot of criticisms seriously
ok, that out of the way?
right, on to point 2
JJ Abram's Mystery Machine.
props to my brother for seeing this connection, but a huge problem is actually sewn into The Force Awakens
- JJ Abrams is a fantastic story teller
- I love how he handles scenes, his dramatic moments carry weight, he can do a lot of good
- A lot of his films are some of my favorites. Mission Impossible 3 is him at possibly his best.
- However, he does have flaws (and no, I'm not talking lense flare you meming netizen)
The biggest problem JJ Abrams has is introducing mysteries ... mysteries that can derail a franchise.
- Alias was something he created, and he introduced a lot of conspiracies and potential mysteries before moving on. Then he left the remaining staff with all the loose ends and the series fell apart.
- Lost: he directed the pilot, produced the first season, introduced so many mysteries, then left. then the series crushed under its own weight.
- The Force Awakens ... there's far more mysteries here than you think ...
I'll list them out, but you'll get the idea: who is supreme leader snoke, who were the order of kylo ren, who is the first order, why does maz have the saber, who is rey, is there chemistry between rey and ben, why did ben do that, why did han do that, etc, etc, etc, etc
"BUT I LIKE MYSTERIES"
The problem with mysteries is headcanon. If the mystery isn't resolved in a year, headcanon will germinate into an unstoppable force. And when someone's headcanon turns out to be false (especially when they've had time to ruminate on it) they feel betrayed, fearful for the future of the franchise, angered, hatred, darkside.
I say this because there is a HUGE portion of criticisms waged against The Last Jedi that laced with headcanon issues (if not entirely based on headcanon).
And it's frustrating to me because I can't have a normal conversation with anyone about the film (take it back, there's 3 people I can) who don't let headcanon get in the way. The problem is that those conversations go like this ...
"This wouldn't happen!"
"Yes it would, and here's evidence."
"[insert inexplicable non-sequitur or defiance of logic, or simply jumping shark to hate Disney for being so big]"
tying it back to TFA -- TLJ
I explained this to one of the few sane friends on the subject matter and he summed it up like this.
JJ "YAY, I started the franchise again. Here's all these loose ends to play with, 2nd movie director!"
Rian "I fixed your loose ends, asshole."
That being said
It pisses me off that I can't have a normal conversation with anyone about TLJ. Because it kinda requires a 2nd viewing to see what they did (which is, in itself a flaw, but they really explained a ton and did a lot right).
But no.
I'm not allowed to like anything new from Star Wars.
At least, that's the impression I get from everyone on youtube (who really just parrot each other in a weird sort of echo chamber).
Point 3
Pull that stick out your own ass and go see Solo.
I actually really enjoyed it.
- It has technical flaws, yes. but all in all it's a fun enjoyable romp.
- It has the best elements that the Clone Wars animated series had to offer, tbh.
... unless you're so betrayed by your own headcanon that you're going to boycott Disney to show them who's boss like the responsible adult you are.
