Quick survey - Please answer <3
Posted 9 years agoHi guys
I'm hoping to work out what is most valuable to my customer base
If you can please take the time to answer this survey it would be much appreciated.
Most of them are multiple choice, and should take less than 10 minutes (10 questions in total)
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/B7GCRWC
I would have added more questions try to get more details, but I was restricted to 10 questions or shell out AU$300
Instead down the track I might do other surveys to focus on specific things (ie such as what you look for in a mkaers porfolio)
Thanks in advance if you do take the time to do this <3

Commissions and ramblings
Posted 10 years agoIron Artist?
Curious to try doing an Iron Artist Challenge
Who has done one before?
I'm trying to decide what I should set myself and such
(As some may know I also work full time, so it doesn't leave a lot of time for crafting XD)
Probably do it as sketches, possibly with some basic shading
I'm thinking I'd open a few as commission slots (probably in the AU$10-$30 mark)
And have practice drawing more creatures and species ^^
Regardless of the Iron Artist challenge going ahead or not
I'm opening about 5 slots for "Here be Dragons" and Halloween themed commissions
Craft and fursuit commissions will remain closed until I finish my detailed illustration commission, and the fox tail commission
(These 2 commissions being finished before I start any other commissions or new major projects)
Here be Dragons themed commissions start at AU$45
Halloween themed commissions are priced as normal
- Avatar/Icon - AU$30 (Laminated badges +$5 and include the postage within Australia)
- Full body, no background illustrations (just basic texture/gradient) - from AU$60
- Full body, basic background illustrations (some background details drawn/coloured) - from AU$90
If you are interested just note me or comment below ^^

China - Everything else
Posted 10 years agoMan
So much has happened - so much of it has become a blur!!!
I think when I get home I shall have to check the itinerary to work out what happened when XD
We went out to the place where they make Green Tea, which was pretty cool to see
Saw a tea ceremony and got some good quality green tea
We also went to China's version of Venice - which was pretty amazing to wander around
Maybe not quite as much water as Venice - as the channels of water were dug, not a city on water like Venice
We looked around a nice garden and we walked through a local market as well
We also went to the Yellow Mountains - the views were amazing
A lot of work to get to though, because the hotels have no roads or transport to them
Its all on foot.
So the hotels that were built and all its contents - the materials are bought to them on foot as well
All the materials and the machinery to build the hotels was bought in on foot
So the hotel is a bit expensive, and the food/drink there is also expensive because of the labour involved
And we climbed the mountain to see the sun set and sun rise, but we missed them because it was so cloudy
But the scenery was so amazing that not seeing the sunrise/sunset wasn't too bad
Yesterday we went to the Shanghai markets and went for a ride on the maglev train
The train runs on magnets - so it levitates above the tracks
And travels at just a tad over 430 KM AN HOUR!!!
There's a lot of other stuff we did, but there's been so much that I can't really put it in order LOL
I'll have to write up a proper journal when I get home
We still have a few days left
Were about to leave the hotel for the airport to Xian to see the terracotta warriors
and then we head off home
Kinda looking forward to being home in my own bed again
And not having to rush around everywhere
And being able to sit down and work on some art again
When I get home I'll post a journal my holiday
And then post in regards to commissions
And commissions will be opening again soon
I'll have a slot for a fursuit (partial or parts, heads by themselves are also open as a commission) and illustration commissions will be open (icons, here be dragons, halloween themed etc)
My to do list includes
- a large fox tail commission (hopefully the fur has arrived while I've been in china so I can just start :D)
- completing the large commission (I haven't been able to access my facebook messages to get approvals/updates :< so it's highest priority on my list since they've been waiting 2 weeks while I've been in China)
- Getting the Red Panda to its excited owner - and I'll be excited to see it in the hands of its new owner since it's my first commissioned suit :DDDD
- Getting touch ups done on the Khajiit, making a matching set of paws and a tail then it will be ready for sale (offer pending)
- AND I'll be starting a new head for Kaikirith, so I'm really excited to see how my 4th head turns out given how the red panda and khajiit look :D

CHINA! - Beijing
Posted 10 years agoFirst few days in China - starting in Beijing
Pretty busy days!
First night we caught up with one of my sisters friends that she met last time she was in China
We went to the Hutongs and checked out some of the older buildings/houses in Beijing
And then we had dinner at one of the local restaurants
We had a leg of lamb that came out half cooked and finished cooking on the spit on the table
Along with skewers of chicken hearts, and skewers of mushrooms.
Our first day in Beijing
We went to Tian anmen square and the Forbidden City
And then we went to the Summer Palace, and after we went and watched the acrobats at the local theatre
Tian anmen square was MASSIVE, and it was also the first day of the holiday
Celebrating Golden Week, so the square was filled with gardens, statues and all sorts of things
One of them was a massive gold coloured urn with huge fabric flowers and surrounded by a garden
There were also hedges and plants sculpted into amazing shapes
Forbidden City was huge and amazing to walk through
I wish we could have spent longer to properly explore, but we had to move on
At the Summer Palace they had this amazing and long covered walkway - about 750m long
It also had over 1,400 painted images along its length
It was just so detailed!!!!
We walked all the way along its length and were able to see the Marble Boat
The (older/traditional) architecture and buildings are just amazing to see in person
It is something I have had a lot of interest in for a long time
Definitely stuff I will be able to put to use in my art
(especially if I start up my comic/manga again that I started 5 years ago and only really completed the opening 12 or so pages XD)
The acrobats we watched were (according to our guide) the best in China, and represented China in the Olympics
The show/acts were amazing - definitely up there with Cirque du Soliel
My favourite act was possibly when the guys were doing flips and jumps through hoops
It was like they were on trampolines, not just flat ground.
The last jump, he flipped through a hoop that was easily 2.5m high
(Or at least high enough that the other accrobats had to stand on anothers shoulders - the hoop was really high!)
And he just sailed through effortlessly!!
The strong men were also amazing to watch
Just pure strength in their movements, it was so controlled
One guy lifted the other on doing a handstand on his feet while flat on his stomach!!
An amazing first day!!
Our second day (today) we went the Jade Factory, the Ju Young Guan section of the Great Wall and then to the Chinese Doctors School
At the Jade Factory we saw the Masters at work
It was really interesting to learn that the Masters do not go to a school to learn their trade
But rather the learning is passed through each generation
There is no school or class for Jade carving in China (or at least Beijing)
We also saw how to tell the difference between fake, B grade and A grade jade
We did buy several smaller pieces of Jade, but it was quite expensive
I would have loved to get one of the larger, more intricate pieces
But they valued in the thousands in Austalian currency
Even for what we got, we (as a family) spent just over 3k on jade statues and jewellery
From there we went to the Great Wall of China
I climbed up to the 14th Tower. (of two towers on our section)
I climbed up past the 15th tower to the 14th.
It went further but we only had two hours at the Wall and still had to get back down
(Of course I was also absolutely buggered to climb that far in the time that we did!!)
It was a beautiful view at those towers
It was hard going climbing, as the height of the steps would randomly vary from being just ankle height to occasionally knee height!!
It was also really step in some areas that it was easier to climb on all fours than to it was to take the steps in a normal fashion
From there we went to the Academy for the Chinese Doctors
There, we met the best Chinese doctor who also treats the leaders and officials in Beijing with the eastern/chinese medicine
We had our palms and pulse read for assessment of our health
He could tell my sister had arthritis, and my mum had trouble sleeping by checking their meridian pulse and reading their palm
My mum and my sister were recommended to get herbal remedies that cost a good $3-500 for 1 months supply
Though the idea of chinese/eastern medicine is to get to the root of the problem, rather than just treat the symptoms like western medicine.
I got off rather lightly only being told I need to exercise!!! HAhaha (Which I already knew XD)
We also recieved a foot massage, my feet still feel amazing!
But now we have to board for shanghai, so I have to head off now

Paint style commissions and prints
Posted 10 years agoSo I'm looking at doing these paint styles as commissions
Because I can make them a lot faster than my lineart style (like 10x faster)
So these seem to be more economical to do as commissions
and I'm thinking of making a few prints as well if I do consider getting a table at Confurgence next year
If you were to commission this paint style of your character
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16134066/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16204998/
Would $25 sound acceptable for a starting price? (AUD)
I don't want to go too cheap, but I don't want to overprice myself either...
Also how do people work out how to price prints

SO MANY THINGS!!!
Posted 10 years agoI really do have a bit on my plate over the next month or so
So i wont be taking any new commissions probably for the next month
(or until current commissions are completed)
My partner and i got accepted for a place in Craigieburn
(and this time it wasn't because we were the only ones applying
There was actually quite a few people after this place too!)
However i have just realised there seems to be no fabric stores out that way T_T
(at least not within a 20-30 minute drive)
And i haven't been able to get a transfer for work just yet
So im looking forward to an hour plus commute each way for work :(
That's not going to be fun...
However my boss is pretty good so ill be moving to a four day week, down from five,
but still keeping my full time hours
And i have a few friends close by to my work if shifts are close together :)
Upside though - ill have more space to craft!
Ill actually have my own room, instead of spreading out across the lounge
Also the area looks quite nice, so we will be looking at holding our engagement party soon
Either at one of the local parks, or at one of the restaurants.
I am aiming to finish my drawing commissions finished this fortnight
And the badge being sent out hopefully this weekend.
Aspects of the craft commissions may be postponed slightly
However customers have already been notified if there's any chance of delay
Once I've moved and settled in (late April)
Drawing commissions will be open again
If you are interested in securing a spot for a craft or costume commission
Craft commissions are likely to be open in June
Keep an eye out for a journal entry around then :3

SAVING! .... and new ideas to look forward to too
Posted 10 years agoSo I've there's a few things i want to save up for
First and foremostly - my partner of nearly 4 years recently proposed!
We have decided our wedding will be in september next year, so it gives us some time to get saving
Of course, i don't want to spend too much on a single day, but weddings are inevitably expensive :s
Im thinking of upgrading my tablet, atm im eyeing off the cintiq at jb hifi for $999
or maybe a surfacepro (which is a lot more expensive!!)
- though ill probably wait to see if they have any sales on even once i get the money together...
Id like to work on doing my sketches and linearts digitally,
So being able to draw directly onto the screen seems like a good idea.
In order to do this im planning on taking drawing commissions on a regular basis (im open now!!)
Ill be making some premade suit heads and parts later this year, even if just to practice my skills
And looking at designing up some adoptables and maybe do some ychs- just to see what happens.
So if you are interested in some drawing commissions message me :3
You can also find more (older, non-furry) examples of my digital work at ryu-ka.deviantart.com

I'm back!
Posted 10 years agoI'm back from Fiji :D
We spent Valentines overseas together!
It was so amazing and relaxing and exciting all at once <3
We went on a waterfall tour, visited the local village and had lunch with our guide and their family
Took part in the Kava ceremony, where the village Chief welcomed us all to his village.
To be honest Kava sort of tastes like dirty water
but it has the interesting effect of making your tongue/lips numb after a few short moments...
We also visited the eco park (zoo) - I got to hold some snakes and iguanas
...of course not all at the same time!
The snake liked poking his head up the sleeve of my kimono
And the bigger iguana liked climbing up my chest or arms to be on my shoulder
Rest of the time we swam in the pool or at the beach, sat at the swim up pool bar, or at the sunset lounge.
It was beautiful weather in the mornings, we had light rain most afternoons and one heavy shower.
There was even a thunderstorm one night, the lightning was very bright - enough to light up areas like it was day time!
Tomorrow I'll be checking out some fur at Bartfelds with
eozarth
Collecting some fur for commissions and personal projects
Then for the rest of the week I'll be hopefully making a start on my commissions
Or at least certainly my art trade with
adezu
All commissions are currently closed until I hear back on the warhammer painting commission
As I'll be painting up a (paid) test model for them before they decide to go ahead with the commission.
I'll be planning on opening up drawing commissions in about a month or so
For those that may be interested in some badges for FurDU in a few months time
If you are interested in getting a slot for a suit or suit part commissions
I'll probably open for one or two slots in about 4-6 months
Depending on how quickly I get through making the Red Panda partial
Best place to start is by watching me here - as I keep it updated in this journal!!
If you're already watching me - you're already one step ahead on anyone else!!
Ciao for now~

HOLIDAYS!!! TTFN!
Posted 10 years agoIM OUTTA HERE!!!
Well out of Australia anyway. IM OFF TO FIJI FOR A WEEK 8D
So won't have much artses to show for it... but I'll be spamming my facebook friends with all the pictures I take XD
Then I have a week off from work when I get back - so it'll be a busy week finishing off some projects and tidying up
Before getting stuck into some of my commissions (and an art trade with
adezu)
Got someone enquiring about commissioning painting of warhammer models - waiting to here back from them.
If I take it up, which is mostly dependent on the timeframe he wants done in, I'll be closing down any and all open commission slots - drawing included
At least until I get through some of the current commissions and requests
Then I'll probably open up again for drawing and craft commissions
If its in too short a timeframe, drawing commissions will remain open
Either way - I'll update when whatever happens.
Sorta hoping that I can do it, cuz I do enjoy painting my warhammer
I should get around to taking some decent photos of theme >.>
Anyway, ta ta for now
See you guys next week...
More art and things to come
But for now - enjoy all the things I've just posted :3
