Ocean Conservation.
Posted 14 years agoNot many of you lot know that I am actually a diver and used to be a decent the free diver too. I've always had a great love of the ocean and the magnificent beasts that lurk beneath its shimmering surface. It's another world, one in which you can forget everything and just watch everything you know fall behind you. To me it's an escape from reality that has never failed to intrigue me. Each time I submerge myself beneath the surface I see something new and have always wanted to overstay my welcome. Unfortunately I've already seen the devastation us humans have caused. I've had the pleasure of visiting the great barrier reef three times. One of my favorite reefs; Hardies reef has undergone some shocking changes. As a kid I remember the plethora of fish, coral and the sheer colorfulness of it all but after my second and then third visit i noticed the color and diversity of my favorite patch of reef had declined significantly. It's starting to bleach and it is breaking my heart. Unfortunately it's not just the reefs that are feeling the brunt of human's stupidity, sharks are being effected too.
Sharkwater is an amazing movie, I honestly wish everyone would watch it. You will gain a greater appreciation of one of my favorite animals; the shark. They're so misunderstood. Unlike bears and wolves they don't have the adorable fluff, they don't have amazing "puppy" eyes and their environment is foreign to us. The majority of the public just don't understand them. After swimming with a number of sharks I fell in love with them. They're so gracious, so potentially powerful and somewhat curious creatures. They have a beauty and grace all of their own that we must learn to respect, not fear.
Parts 4-9 are on youtube too. :)
Also SEASHEPHERD is <3. Unlike the government and other environmental agencies they fight for conservation. If you have some spare cash, go support them. They do some amazing things and protect not only whales but many other marine creatures. http://www.seashepherd.org/
