Your Despicable!
Posted 15 years agohahah, I saw Despicable Me a few days ago and I gotta say, I enjoyed that movie. =3
I love all the characters in the movie, from Gru, a Super Villain striving for the top, to the kids Margo, Edith and Agnes, to Vector, the youngest and newest Super Villain in town. They all got pretty funny personalities, but Gru was the showstopper. His weird accent reminded me of Dexter from Dexter's Laboratory, cuz, lets face it, all mad scientist type super villains have eastern european accents. He's such an asshole and a badass when he wants to be that its not hard to like this guy, and yet we get to see a softer side him when the kids come into his life. Its a nice switch but he never looses that charm. And Vector completes the Dexter's Lab reference because he's just like Mandark and the rivalry just feels like that. Younger and better doesn't necessarily translates to a better villain, as we find out later. Then there are Gru's minions, which I found hilarious. Cute lil' guys that reminds me of the LGMs from Toy Story or Oompah Lumpahs. X3
The story goes at a leisurely pace and has a lot of cool and funny moments to keep me entertained, and I can tell the other people watching had fun as well. There wasn't really any faults I could find with the movie. I would have liked a throw-away James Bond-esque like spy to go against Gru in the first few minutes of the movie, just to illustrate how much of a bad-ass he is in taking him out, besides Gru's daily routine in the suburbs. I recommend seeing this movie. I would like to see a sequal where the kids learn to become super villains, mwuahahah! XD
Ok, looks like we got a bunch of new animated movies coming our way as well. I didn't see some of the trailers of the ones some people mentioned; like Rango, which had Johny Depp as a chameleon in a western setting, which I wanna see. Then there was Rio, the other trailer I didn't see, I guess about 2 housepet birds who break out, in Rio. Looks interesting. Then there is The Legend of the Warriors of Ga'hoole. Hot damn the CG on this one looks awesome! Haven't read the books its based on but I will definately check this out! The main owl characters look realistic but talk, and the story looks kinda dark, like 9, so that's always interesting. Then off course, at the heels of Illumination Entertainment's Despicable Me, is Dreamwork's Megamind, another movie with a main character who is a Super Villain (isn't it usually Pixar and Dreamworks with the similar movies? XD) Another one to look forward to. Then we have another one of Disney's takes on a classic Fairytale, this time on Rapunzel called Tangled. The characters look funny and cool, but not much else is revealed yet so I can't wait to see more on it. Lastly was an oddity to me, Smurfs is coming to the big screen. Its not enough that they resurrect Alvin and the Chipmunks but now this as well? All I can say is that their eyes look weird, I guess translation from 2d to 3d will always make it look different. Not only that, the story of Smurfs looks like its set in contemporary times, with a bunch of Smurfs gripping tightly on top if a speeding taxi. I guess Ye Ole' Medieval Times won't cut it this time. I bet they'll be discovered by a kid and there us an ancestor to Gargamel, who also just happen to have a cat. Oh well, gotta see more trailers on that, but I predict this movie being less than average at best. Oh well, more movies please!

We're Men in Tiiiiights!
Posted 15 years agoWooo, so busy! But not busy enough to still watch movies! XD
And don't you guys fret none, I'm still in the art game, just gotta scheme my schemes first >=3
So, I'm sure you guys can tell what the title is about, I saw Robin Hood yesterday.
So, when we see movies like these, we can't help but compare it to the other incarnations of it, mostly Kevin Costner's Robin Hood (not more so Disney's Robin Hood or Men in Tights XD). The movie was more like a prequel to Robin Hood, like the first half of KC's Robin Hood when he came back from the Crusades but with even more story going on. After that, it goes off on its own story, different from how we see or know about Robin Hood. In a way, the movie kinda felt like something else than a Robin Hood movie. It sometimes felt a bit dragging at times but when the action kicked up, it kicked up X3
All the characters were pretty cool, but the one that stood out to me the most was Prince John. I know I was supposed to hate him, but the fact was the guy was funny. He always seem to have a funny remark for different situations, its kinda hard to hate the guy. I felt kinda sorry that he had this whole kingdom like he always wanted but he's stuck with soo much debt from the crusade he had to tax people. Although he could secure loans but he was too proud for that.
Oh well, my 2 cents on that, cool movie, go see it if you like Robin Hood =3

Organs for sale...
Posted 15 years agoMan, I gotta update my journal X3
So, I guess I'll start off with the movie I saw 2 weeks ago, Repo men...
WARNING! MAY BE SPOILERS! (although why you would care now since its "old" is beyond me XD)
So, the premise of the movie is, in the near future, due to the miracles of modern science, people are living longer because if ever you need an organ of some sort, the Union can provide you with awesome artificial organs. However, because of supply and demand, the organs are very expensive, to the point that if you are overdue for your payments for your cyborg enhancements, the Union will send out repo men to take your organs by force, whether you still need them or not. The focus is on the best repo men of the district, Remy, who loves his job. He treats it like any normal 9-5 job, take them down, reposes the organs, then have a drink afterwork with his buddies, joking around and not caring about the people who they reposes the organs from. However, in typical movie fashion, the roles are reversed when during an easy repo job, a freak accident occurs and he ends up needing an artificial heart himself. Being an awesome repo man, he should be able to make all his payments on time, however, by becoming a cyborg himself, he starts to feel the pain of the people he reposes organs from, to the point that he can't even cut open another human being to do his job. After being overdue in payments, he starts getting chased by repo men from his own company, to the point he has to take refuge with other overdue organ users in slums in the city. Now he has a choice, either he reap these people's organs to go back to the Union, or stand and fight against them. >=3
Ok, I gotta admit, it's a pretty cool concept. Repo men cutting people up to get back organs? The lessons in humanity versus just doing what your told because its your job? The violence? It should be a 4 - 5/5 star movie, but to me, it felt like a 2 - 3/5 star movie. For one thing, the story just seems ok, it seems like its supposed to be a lot better, but just falls flat. The characters also fall flat. The main guy Remy, played by Jude Law, just doesn't seem likable enough. Hell, I like his former partner, Jake, played by Forest Whitaker, more, just because for a guy his size and build, he kicks ass, and his jovial manner just wins me over. XD
And then there's the violence. Don't get me wrong, I love violence as much as the next red-blooded american, but the violence here is like over-the-top! This kind of gratuitous violence is almost on par with asian horror gore-fest movies, and I say almost because asian gore-fest movies will still win out. There's a part in the movie where Remy and his new main squeeze(who's internal organs are almost composed of artificial organs) have a chance to erase their accounts from the Unions database, but in order to do that, they have to use a hand scanner, cut into their own bodies, force the scanner into their own bodies to scan the barcode on the artificial organ without removing it. Ok, in theory, the idea sounds painful, gory but cool, but the way they handled it just made it seem so much more sexual than its supposed to be. They were shoving the scanner into themselves, but they were also hugging and kissing and grinding in a bloody, mashochistic sort of way. I mean really? Their so used to the pain that they can get off like that? And not only that, there's blood everywhere! I guess in the near future, they eliminated all forms of fluid-transmitted diseases. Hivs anybody? Hello? >=(
Overall, if your curious about the movie, go see it, but if your expecting a great movie, dont' hold your breath. =3

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is....
Posted 15 years agoa big dissapointment, at least to me XP
I mean, as a movie, it delivered the usual stuff, action, adventure, comedy and romance, all for the kids, or more for teens which looks to be the target audience. The movie wasn't draggin at all, in fact, it went at a much quicker pace than I thought it should be. Well, that's to be expected from the guy who directed Harry Potter. Pretty good effects, and I was especially impressed with the way they portrayed the Underworld in the movie. Very interesting take on it.
However, they really took out a lot of stuff, and I mean A LOT. A bunch of the stuff they took out really mattered. For one, they took out the one who is the camp director of Camp Half-Blood, Mr. D., or his more prominent name, Dionysus, god of Wine and Madness. He provides some of the humour in the books, but with him not around, it just seems...bland. Then there's Clarisse, daughter of Hades, who is the Draco Malfoy to Percy, always antagonizing him. Then, there is the Oracle of Delphi, a mummy living in the attic of the "big house" where the director stays who gives out important riddles and is how the campers of Camp Half-Blood get to go out into the world for their quests. Although not alive, she is integral because her predictions tie into Percy's future.
And now, there's the portrayal of the characters and the world at large. I mentioned before how I liked the Underworld was portrayed. Mt. Olympus was also up there, although I found the Underworld much more impressive. Camp Half-Blood was really underwhelming. In the book, it was an amazing huge camp with strawberry fields, a big ranch-style house for the camp director, a large forest to one side and the camper's cabins, one for each of the major gods of Olypmus, all arranged in a U with a large pit in the middle, not to mention the large tree at the edge of the camp, which provides a barrier against monsters and humand. The camp is always sunny, thanks to Zeus' influence. Grand place, ain't it? In the movie, it was just a forest with cabins close to the trees and a lake. it looked like something out of Robin's hideout in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves or Peter Pan's Lost Boys. It was more like a guerilla hideout than a camp. And the fact that they were in the forest made the whole place feel claustrophobic. Percy couldn't keep a single step without being in somebody's face or weapon. Everybody in the camp are as old as Percy or just about, while in the book, they take in all ages to keep them safe from the monsters. Because of this portrayal, I don't get the same home-y feeling of the movie adaption to the books.
I'll probably rant a bit more about this since I really had high hopes for this movie. It kinda made me feel that they were making a one-off movie, cash in on the name and then check out, making the movie half-assed and giving a hint that its going to continue but not really. Nice going Hollywood, you guys did it again XP

Woohoo!
Posted 16 years agoWell, its been a long while but I'll try to get back in the groove of things. How is everybody doing? Had a fun year I'm sure. Yea, I think I'm having too much fun. Reason I haven't been arting lately is because I've been engrossed in the game Borderlands and been reading the book series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. That came as a trailer, as some of you might have seen, so I was interested in seeing what this movie was about, so I've been reading the series for the past month or so. Well, getting to the last book so I can finally have some time to do some stuff. No more distractions! See you all around!
Rest in Peace Captain
Posted 16 years agoMan, all the more memorable people (at least the ones I took notice of) are dieing this whole year huh? If you don't know who I'm talking about, I'm talking about Captain Lou Albano. Back in the day, he was an old school wrestling promoter from back when WWF was still around. Now granted, I never knew much about his career in the WWF since I was too young and was in the Philippines during that time (never even heard of wrestling back then) but where I remembered him the most was from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show where he played Mario in the live action sequences. Yes, before Bob Hoskins had the role, there was Captain Lou Albano (I liked the film, it was such a different departure that if it was named something else, maybe it might have a shot, maybe). Well, rest in peace man, you had a great run. And now, here he is! (I love that freakin cartoon, no matter how cheesy it was XD)

What happens while you sleep?
Posted 16 years agoSo, I just saw Paranormal Activity tonight and I gotta say its one of the scariest movies I've ever seen.
Now, this movie makes me wish I saw the Blair Witch Project out in theatres because the reaction of the crowd was really something to experience. The reactions where something that felt more genuine compared to when people watched less realistic movies because in one way or another, we all wondered what goes on while we sleep and at one time or another heard our houses make their nightly noises and wondered if that was something we should worry about. As you've seen from the trailers, the whole movie is a mockumentary, made famous by films like Blair Witch Project or Clovefield, but a bit different since the camera work was mostly done when the characters placed it on a tripod, making it a lot more clearer to watch when compared to other movies where the camera moves around, which can give me a headache. The story is pretty interesting and will keep you in your seats where it will just build up and up while the paranormal activity just starts to escalate. Its interesting to note that when they first showed the film to test crowds to see the responses, people actually walked out of the theatre, but not because they hated it but because the were just freakin' scared. That is the scare power of this movie.
So, in conclusion, if you wanna be scared, watch this movie. I liked it and you will too for a scary good time. Maybe it will make your wonder if your really alone in your bed at night. Go ahead. Videotape yourself while you sleep. Who knows, you just might catch something. Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll stay up a little longer >.>

Engage!
Posted 16 years agoMan, just saw Star Trek and I must say I am quiet impressed with the movie. Awesome work I must say.
Even though I haven't watched the original Star Trek often (I was more of a fan of Next Generation. Go Picard!), I've watched enough to know some of the nostalgia moments in the movie. The special effects are really breathtaking and the USS Enterprise never looked better. I like all the special details they out in it too, like where all the phasers come from. If you've watched the original before, have you ever wondered where the phaser blasts come from? Well, the movie will show it to you. It also showed some little tidbits that made me go "oh, oh wow, so that's how it is". Do you know why Scotty is fat? You'll find out here! Not only that, this movie will give you a little surprise in relations with this newer version of Star Trek and the old one. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Even though the movie looked great, I do have 2 complaints. One, they went with the messy camera movement so some of the cool special effects get lost in the blur. Two, there is an awful lot of lens flares, causing bright flashes that sometimes engulfs half the screen. I could do without all that, but in the end, the movie is still pretty good. The story's pretty cool too. Not bad for an origin story, with a bit of plot twist for good measures. Nice one guys!
Well, what are you waiting for? Watch this movie already!
