We are in Michigan.

22" Monitors for sale
Posted 14 years agoAnyone want to buy 22" monitors? I had to unexpectedly upgrade to ones that are VESA mountable (these two are not).
These are LG W2252TQ monitors, 22", 1680x1050, 2ms response time monitors. They've served me well and are in excellent condition.
I'm asking $90 each, OBO, but because I'd have to ship to you guys I could do $100 each which would include shipping (which will probably be about $25 each monitor).

2011 holiday cards- what would you like to see?

This is no cheap feat; it's about $35 or so just for postage, not to mention the printing of the pictures inside and of course the cards themselves.
That having been said, I really do like sending them out. Sometimes it's the one thing that brings a smile to someone's face- I don't mind the effort.
Now, to the real guts of it- what kind of stuff would you like to see in them?
The cards are generic cards and then I insert a pinup-style image (usually a choice between a male or female image), printed on photo paper, for your enjoyment. :)

Saving Kittens from Traffic, No Back Surgery for Me, etc
Posted 14 years agoSo, sort of an update.
Today, I had an appointment at the neurosurgeon to determine my candidacy for surgery on my back. He was perplexed that Worker's Comp would even send me to him so soon- he is of the opinion that I need to do spinal rehab before I even CONSIDER a surgery that is not only a 50/50 chance of success but also risky and very mobility-limiting (bad at my age).
So, I have a call into the work comp adjuster to talk to him about what happened. I will tell him about the rehab. I'm hoping he's receptive at least, because it's one step closer to case closure and rehabilitation. I will also talk to him about needing a note for my employer about my ability for the on-call duties, and ask him what course he wants me to take for that (and I can also explain to him what the on-call duties entail- not even a 16th of a regular job effort).
My supervisor and her boss are optimistic that this will at least lead to closure and whatnot, it's better than sitting around and doing nothing (which is what the current work comp doctor has had me doing). Contrary to popular belief, I -do- want to return to work.

And, on the way home from the appointment, we were driving over this big huge bridge and a KITTEN runs out into traffic. We almost hit it! :O
Naturally, we slam on the brakes, thank god no accident resulted from THAT in and of itself, but it scared the kitten back onto the shoulder of the bridge. Of course I jump out and chase after him (and mind you it's pouring rain). He runs because he's scared. We catch up to him, but he tries to squeeze through an opening in the cement (meaning he would drop over 5 stories to the ground below). I'm flipping out, Whisper comes and manages to get the kitten's scruff and pull him out of the crack (thank god he has skinnier arms/hands than me). Kitty's okay, but screaming and wet and crying, I'm crying, telling him it's okay. We had stopped traffic and backed up the whole bridge, but the important thing was, no one flipped out and tried to zoom into us (which I've had happen before when I got a dog from traffic), and it was over pretty quick.
I grabbed a blanket we had in the car for the dog and wrapped him up in it. We took him to the Humane Society down the road and had to surrender him. As much as I would have loved to have kept him, keeping a (possibly sick) kitten whose history we don't know requires immediate vet care (Which we don't have the funds for right now), and also poses a risk to our existing pets (the cat and the dog). We wouldn't be able to keep him, either, because we're already under pressure from my employer to get rid of either the cat or the dog (though I am technically entitled to both- one is a pet, the other is my service dog)... so I didn't want to press my luck.
The humane society will keep him for four days in an attempt to see if an owner comes back to claim the kitty. If no one comes to get him, they'll evaluate him for adoption and if he's suitable, he will go up for adoption and he will stay up for adoption until someone takes him home (e.g. he won't get put to sleep after a week if no one wants him). The representative also said that if he needs medical care, he will receive that EVEN IN the four day period.
So, I feel sad, of course, but I feel good that he will at least be taken care of, and given the care he needs. He seemed to have a good temperament when he finally calmed down and I think he'll be adopted because he's just a baby kitty.
p.s. why is everyone flipping out about MLP? Is it that big of a fucking deal? Sheesh. Who cares?

Watercolor Pigment problems? Help!
Posted 14 years agoHey- do any of you use Dr. PH Martin's watercolor pigments for your watercolor exploits?
I had a really pretty picture I wanted to do for an important friend-of-mine's birthday, sort of a memorial piece, and what ended up happening was I had to mix some pigments to get the right color for the subject (sort of a russet color- a reddish brown), and no matter what I did the pigment bled out to be GREEN!
This meant that any hard line edge I'd make would bleed out a centimeter or so of lime fucking green. It was visible in the body, too, in that if you paint a portion and then move on to the next portion the first portion had already bled out green.
I have never had a problem with this paper in the past (canson watercolor paper, Aquarelle, I think, cold press) and have not used the pigments sufficiently enough to REALLY see a major problem, but basically you take the concentrated ink and drop it into water in varying quantities to get the water opacity you need.
The solid colors didn't seem to do this (though they did bleed heavily, I think my paper was too wet still at that point), it was only the shade that I had mixed for the body colors.
Any tips or suggestions? I've had the best luck (believe it or not) using crayola 1st grade pan watercolors, and I'd still do that, except that the brown they have is just brown and mixing it with the other pan colors won't get the shade I need.
The shade I need is a russety color, and I had to mix saddle brown, daffodil yellow, amber yellow and sepia to get it. (it was like a chemistry lab- like 8 different test pools!)
I'm sad the picture is ruined. I tried to replicate it on acrylic board to try my hand at acrylic, but I wasn't aware of the fact that apparently micron pen + acrylic board=bad idea? the pen smudged all over the place and ruined it. It seems like this picture is doomed from the start!

Please, really need commissions
Posted 14 years agoI'm having a difficult time selling my stuff on ebay (thank heavens for 'good til canceled' auction lengths), so my attempt at raising money has been really slow-going and hard.
I can do stuff like conbadges pretty fast- stickers, stuff like that- but please be aware that larger pieces will take me a little bit longer to do. My staying power at the computer/art station is a lot shorter than it used to be because of this injury. :(
I am willing to do stuff for name your own price, whatever- I'm really in need of commissions. The work comp place is screwing around with my checks and I'm having to get in touch with an attorney... sigh.
Please, if you can't help out, can you consider recommending me to someone else? I would really appreciate it. I know I'm not popular, but I do work hard and I try very hard to make my clients happy. Usually I include free stuff or do more work than I was paid for, too.

I can do stuff like conbadges pretty fast- stickers, stuff like that- but please be aware that larger pieces will take me a little bit longer to do. My staying power at the computer/art station is a lot shorter than it used to be because of this injury. :(
I am willing to do stuff for name your own price, whatever- I'm really in need of commissions. The work comp place is screwing around with my checks and I'm having to get in touch with an attorney... sigh.

I also have probably 30 or 40 fox plush and probably 30-40 fox-related collectibles.
If I were to sell both the figurines and the plush animals, would anyone be interested? I would end up piecing out the collection to sell it (e.g. the stuffed animals in sets of 1 or 2, the collectibles in their matching sets).
I'm trying really hard to raise some extra money and as much as I hate to part with my fox stuff (I am very attached), it seems the only viable option.
I'm selling a bunch of my beloved books on ebay too. :/ Same thing with DS games. :/

Jewelry Makers: Natural Stone collection: interested??

I sucked at it.
Discovered this AFTER I bought a bunch of stuff for it.
This would be a large container of various natural materials- different types of jaspers, different types of those weird misshapen pearls, and other types of rocks. I have amazonite, for example, hematite, blue goldstone, jade, etc.
I'd also want to sell the jewelry accessories-- necklace clasps, earring bases, whatever.

It seems like no matter what we do we end up having no money- Whisper is even contributing monetarily right now, more than he normally would, and I'm still over a barrel.
I need to take commissions... especially now because I'm out of work (on work comp wages, which is only 80% of my normal income).
I've tried raising extra money on ebay by making the service animal ID's, but that's a niche market at best and isn't really doing well. I also posted about them on service dog communities but I don't want to spam them so I'm highly limited in how often I can post about my wares (like, every two months no joke).

Tonight, while working on a commission, not only did my button maker break (I will call them tomorrow as they supposedly have a lifetime guarantee), but my laminator jammed and doesn't work. :/
I need to get a new one!
I can order the exact same one off of Amazon for $35- it's the 3M/Scotch TL901- nothing too crazy, but it gets the job done (more or less).
Can any of you possibly commission me for something so that I can get a new laminator? I'm so broke right now and I'm trying to sell service dog ID's on Ebay and of course, those DEFINITELY require a laminator.

We can't keep staying on, even separated (trying to work on a friendship), like this, if he can't be honest with me. He's spent money we didn't have despite my requests.

Posted 14 years agoIn addition to being out of work because of a back injury on a worker's compensation case (only making 80% of my wages currently), and having Whisper tell me he doesn't want to be together, and then having my place of employment telling me that if I stay on work comp I'm going to be fired and lose my apartment...
now they're saying if i try to bring my SERVICE DOG to work, that I won't have a job.
And now we can't afford our car payment because Whisper isn't going to be contributing as much as I need to make it work.
Karen, who is not only my boss but my stepmom, won't let my dad help me lease a (much cheaper, much more affordable) car because she's a bitch.
When will it ever quit?
I'd open up commissions to try and raise some money but i can't even sell commissions at half price anymore. :/
