I am not dead!
Posted 12 years agoSeems like there was some confusion about that. Feel free to poke me on AIM or Gtalk if you'd like to say hello or catch up. I'm trying to make sure I'm around a bit more! Can't be AIM at work, unfortunately, but after 6 or so, EST, gonna try to be available. At least when I'm home. :3
Anyone else headed to Defcon?
Posted 12 years agoThe title says it all. I'm just curious. It's a great place to meet people from all over the country, and make interesting connections, whether you expect them or not. :3
Torn about Anthrocon...
Posted 12 years agoDue to money being a bit tighter due to life changes, it will be tough to make it to AC this year. I'm torn on whether to go. If I were to make it out there, would anyone be interested in getting together? Who would I see?
Birthdays!
Posted 12 years agoToday is mine. Woooorship meeeee.... :3
New Leaf!
Posted 12 years agoYes, I have it. Anyone want a friend code? :3
TMI Tuesday!
Posted 12 years agoUsually I do this on Twitter, but. If anyone has any questions for me, feel free to ask. I shall answer truthfully!
Extra Steam games from the latest Humble Bundle.
Posted 12 years agoIf anyone wants a copy of either Dear Esther or Hotline Miami, and are already following me, lemme know and it's yours. =D
Cons and such.
Posted 12 years agoMy con schedule for the year looks like it's going to be: Anthrocon, Defcon, potentially Otakon, Furfright. If anyone wants to see me, let me know!
You are seared!
Posted 13 years agoOkay, technically, I am seared. I managed to fall into a campfire last Sunday and burn my hand. Ouch! Second degree burns.
Oh, and Apple maps totally failed us trying to get to a hospital. I wish I was joking, but this is a true thing that actually happened.
On a different note, I will be at FurFright this year. Look for the one with the bandages on their left hand!

And more spam!
Posted 13 years agoYyup. I finally finished scanning my other Turbine sketchbook, the one from this year. I'm amazed with how this one came out. I'll only be posting the highlights, because otherwise you guys would have three or four submission pages of JUST my stuff. If you're interested in seeing more of it, though, let me know!
Scrap spam incoming!
Posted 13 years agoHey guys. I'm uploading the highlights of an old sketchbook from
turbinedivinity. 2005, in fact! But it's gonna be a little spammy. See scraps to see them.

Posted 13 years agoIt's that time of year again. If you're gonna be out there, tell me so we can meet up! I'll be there the 20th through the 30th.
Birthday today!
Posted 13 years agoToday is my birthday! I'm down in Florida celebrating at the moment. Hope all of you are having a good time where you are, too!
Sketchbook.
Posted 13 years agoSo, I commissioned a whole sketchbook from
turbinedivinity when I was back in college. I honestly keep forgetting about it, since none of it has been scanned. Would anyone be interested in seeing the sketches if I scanned them and tossed them up in scraps?

Posted 13 years agoIt's this one:
http://indifferent-cats-in-amateur-.....rn.tumblr.com/
That's right. Cats who are in amateur porn videos and just don't care. It's kind of amazing, actually.
Life's been pretty good. Gearing up for my birthday in a few weeks, among other things. Nipples are starting to heal up, etc etc etc...
If anyone wants to connect over on Twitter or Fetlife let me know!

Pierced nipples HURT.
Posted 13 years agoThat's really all I have to say about it at the moment. There'll be pics over on Fetlife if anyone is curious later on.
Return from Sveridge.
Posted 13 years agoSweden is nice this time of year. *Grin* But I am back, I am back. Have lots of pictures of rocks and ice, and SPECIAL rocks and ice at that. Runestones, the ice hotel, train rides... I just got back, so I'm a little fuzzly.
And a happy new year to all of you, among other things.
Posted 14 years agoI'm sure you're all sick of these by now, but I hope you all enjoyed yourselves last night. I know I certainly did. I love the group that I have left from college, they put on delightful parties. And make such wonderful connections. I'm being recruited for another job it seems like, and am being recruited for a very DIFFERENT position by a friend of mine, by coming up behind me and forcing me to my knees by my hair - with consent, of course. They're always very careful about that.
Also, I keep getting complimented on my hair, which I'm not used to. I should wear it down more often, to show off the curls. I haven't done that much until lately, and it seems to do wonders.
Life has been life, otherwise. I have my annual Thursblot coming up, in which there will be turkey, ham, mead, and toasts aplenty. My newest batch is almost ready, too, a strawberry peach blackberry. I... am a little suspicious, though at last racking it smelled delightful.
I will be starting a few new flavors soon, too.
Things have been going well with
desertfox2231 as well. Xe has been off visiting friends and significant others, and the time we've had together has been really nice as well. Can't wait to get some new artwork of the two of us, too. =D Of course, xe's going on another trip in February. Polyamory makes for such an interesting life. *Laugh*
Magfest in a couple days, Defcon and Anthrocon in a few months... it's shaping up to be a good year!

...back!
Posted 14 years agoIt feels SO nice to get that "Welcome home" comment from the immigration people after being gone for awhile, you know? I woke up in my own bed today, and it was oh-so-glorious.
I learned quite a bit on this trip. Like, for example, body armor is uncomfortable to wear, but even MORE uncomfortable to carry. And that standard issue helmets look hilarious when you add mad science goggles. I may upload that into scraps.
All things considered, though, it's nice to be back. Even if it took 26 hours and five separate flights to do it.

So, back from Iraq as of tomorrow night.
Posted 14 years agoIt's about time. *Grin* Can't wait to catch up with everyone. For now, though, time to do some shopping in Amman!
If you try to reach me over the next month...
Posted 14 years agoI will probably be REALLY slow to respond, if at all. I'll go into why after said period is done.
Hat!
Posted 14 years agoI have a new hat! It's a black and silver big wide hat with a feather. I've been wanting one of these for years and years. Hats are amazing, and really can add to any outfit. Now I just need a matching cape and mask so I can buckle a number of interdependently connected swashes.
North Carolina, Mead, Thoughts
Posted 14 years agoThis will be a bit of a rambley journal. It's three in the morning and I can't sleep, so you;re just getting whatever's on my mind.
I have another batch of mead in production, a blackberry strawberry peach. God, the fruit slurry looked nasty going on, but I had so much luck with my last batch, I'm hoping this one will come out excellently as well. I've been in talks with a friend to perhaps go into business, but finding a "commercial kitchen" we can afford as per regulations is a pain in the ass.
My company just got bought out. I think it's just the impetus I need to go back to school. Their education benefits are something on the order of 10k a year, plus they're sending me to a CISSP boot camp in October. Now, really, most of the certs out there, and ESPECIALLY this one, are total BS, but in this field, if you don't have one it's hard to get past the HR monkeys at the door. So I'll play along with their little shenanigans and get it, and get the useless CEH while I'm at it. Seriously, my mom could get that one with a little cramming, and she can hardly find the power button. But it's a nice piece of paper for people to see on your resume. Paper referencing paper referencing paper, good lord.
Thinking seriously about when I want to move west. I mean, it's something I've always planned to do, but I think the point is gonna be once I get my master's, and then the requisite year to not pay it back. Then it'll be time to start looking. I love this area, I love my friends and my chosen family. Hell, I even love some things about this area. But the way a lot of people approach it... it just isn't for me, really. Maybe the west coast isn't either. Maybe it just appeals because it seems new and different, but it'll be the same old shit. But hey, you never know until you try, right?
I feel really lucky with my job, too. I love what I do, I enjoy the people I work with, and I'm pretty good at something that pays well and is in demand. You really can't get much better than that without being born into money. I'm a little sick of my generation being called "entitled" though, in all of these career articles and such. I've seen the shit my friends slog through to succeed. Hell, I've done my time on the low rung, too. Don't hate on us because our priorities are different from yours. Maybe we had no "company loyalty" because companies stopped being loyal to their employees, and we saw that in our parents growing up? Balls, I'm rambling.
I got back from North Carolina a bit ago with a bag full of gems to be cut, so we'll see how that goes. The mines went well, garnets and aquamarines and tourmaline all over. And a few facet-quality quartz bits too, which was nice. I want to do more traveling. And maybe go skiing. Can you believe that I've never gone skiing? I never even think about it, but hey, the winter is coming up. If not now, then when?
I haven't posted since Defcon, either. It was pretty damn awesome. I met some furries out there, too, which was a blast. Need to get back on IRC to hang out, though, but I'm flaky as hell. I guess I'll be better in the future. So many things I need to get my act together on.
But tonight, I think I'm going to sleep.
And tomorrow I'm going to go buy some flowers. Nothing to really brighten a mood like flowers.

Comission Request - Label Design
Posted 14 years agoI have a bit of an odd request. I'm looking to commission an artist to design a series of labels for me. I brew mead, and I'd like to have labels for each line a put out that are better than a sticky note stuck to the bottle. I'm kinda thinking that I might do pony themed ones, with each flavor corresponding to a pony, but mostly I just want good design. Anyone have suggestions for who to talk to?
Eye surgery. Oh my god.
Posted 14 years agoI may have mentioned it before, but I've had kerataconus in my eyes for the past ten years or so. I've been slowly but surely going blind, and it's been weighing pretty heavily on my mind. (Seriously, try watching one of your senses degrade to unusability sometime. It sucks ASS.)
Science marches on, though, and I had the opportunity to try out an experimental procedure that'll halt it in its tracks. I just had it done last Wednesday. We won't know if it worked for a few months, but I'm almost done with recovery now, at least. My corneas still hurt, and I'm sporting the light-sensitive pirate look with both an eyepatch and the blind man glasses at the same time, but you know what? If it works, it'll totally be worth it.
The doctor even said that someday, I might be able to wear glasses to correct my vision. Glasses! Such a simple thing, but something that's been out of my reach forever. I'm crossing my fingers on this one...
