Ten Days Meme! Day Three: Eight ways to win your heart.
Posted 15 years agoI'm taking this meme slow, but I'll be done with it eventually! :D Also, is it just me or does this day really bring out the cheesiest of answers in people? I know it does in me.
1) Flowers. See my above statement. Cheeeeesy. Doesn't change the fact that I've always wanted to get flowers from someone.
2) Be silly! Play! Don't take life so seriously! Some of my fondest and warmest moments are me and another full-grown adult playing with little stuffed animals and having a blast. *Grin*
3) Keep in touch. It's hard for love to blossom if it feels like contact is only one way.
4) Involve me in your interests. Show me something new. I may not get it, but I'll give ANYTHING a try once.... twice... a few times.
5) Physical contact. I'm a touchy feely kinda guy. Free hugs for all and all that.
6) Be yourself. You're not fooling anyone with that mask you're wearing. Yeah, I know, it's necessary when you're at work, or with certain groups of friends maybe, but really, we can tell. So just drop it and relax.
7) Surprise me. Do something I don't expect. Show up unexpectedly, or send a love letter, or arrange something elaborate, or call at 2am on a Friday to hang out. I'm pretty good at predicting people, so being surprised is awfully nice.
8) Be enthusiastic. Don't just do the things you're interested in, love doing the things you're interested in. Show your fire! I know you have some, you just have to project it.

Ten days meme! Day 2: 9 things about yourself.
Posted 15 years agoDay 2: 9 things about yourself.
Oof, this is a tough one. Well, I guess that's a good place to start.
1) I have trouble talking about myself! :D
2) I'm a dichotomy between flighty and intensely focused. It all depends where my mind is at the time, but things end up getting done in the end.
3) I have a bunch of random hobbies. For example, I'm a treasure hunter, as well as getting into firespinning, trying to learn guitar, writing, writing code, breaking other peoples code, brewing mead, and the like.
4) I'm an information junkie. Good thing or no, when I'm interested in something I immerse myself in it and pick stuff up by osmosis. It's part of how I learned my trade, and has a lot to do with how I learned about astronomy and BDSM.
5) Speaking of BDSM, I'm building a dungeon in my basement! It's gonna be awesome.
6) I find gender roles to be generally disconcerting. Always makes me feel weird when I'm in a place where they're prominent.
7) I volunteered at the local animal shelter for a few years, then followed that up with a stint at Petsmart. It still amazes me that I didn't come home with a cat until about six years later.
8) I require a nice balance of time with close friends, time with energetic crowds, and time to myself to thrive. If one of those gets out of balance, I can feel it, so at least I know what's happening.
9) I came across furries completely incidentally. The very first search I did online was for "free online games", and back then, Furcadia was one of the first things that came up. So I thought to myself, "hey, I like cats, right?" and tried it. Well... a few years later, I'm still here, heh. My first character there started out as a teenage power fantasy, but evolved to SO much more.

Ten days meme! Day 1, ten things said to ten people.
Posted 15 years agoStolen from damn near everyone, at this point.
Day One: Ten things you want to say to ten different people right now
Day Two: Nine things about yourself.
Day Three: Eight ways to win your heart.
Day Four:Seven things that cross your mind a lot.
Day Five: Six things you wish you’d never done.
Day Six: Five people who mean a lot (in no order whatsoever)
Day Seven: Four turn offs.
Day Eight: Three turn ons.
Day Nine: Two smileys that describe your life right now.
Day Ten: One confession
Day One: Ten things you want to say to ten different people right now.
Sinking ship, dude. Sinking ship. Escape now, 'cause once Mike and I leave, all hell's gonna break loose.
You're amazing... thanks for being there when I needed it... just thanks.
I want some "one on one" time with you again... if ya know what I mean. *Eyebrow waggles*
Dude, I just met you, but wow. I'm crushing like a Thwomp and I don't even know why.
What the hell? When we're together, it's just like old times, but when we're apart, it's like you don't even exist. Get out of town and visit sometime!
I miss you! You're just too far away, and I know you, you'll never be back...
Y'know, you're a cool guy, and I like hanging out with you, but seriously, get over yourself. There's no reason to act so bitter and petulant when you have so many friends and good people around.
You're pretty awesome. Drop the "taking yourself seriously" charade and loosen up. You can do it!
Zomg... you're having a kid. You've changed since high school... it's the sort of thing I expected but never expected. You'll do well, but we have so little in common now, it's sad...
Okay, y'know, you were doing SO WELL for awhile there. You need to get out of where you are and come back to us. All will be right again.

Titles are the hardest thing to think of.
Posted 15 years agoWell, my foot's mostly healed now, finally. I can walk on it, and while it's going to scar, it won't be too bad. It's certainly nice to have that behind me.
That said, I'm currently demolished by sleep deprivation. I was helping my family yesterday, as my dad needed some rather serious surgery, and only got about 4 hours that night. I've yet to have a chance to recover, since I work this crazy early schedule.
Don't expect a lot out of me today, bleh.
In other news, I'm being contacted on all sides by job offers. It's time to move on, but I don't know which direction I want to go in yet. Either way, it's definitely time for change.
Finally... anyone played New Vegas? Any good?

Fire fans!
Posted 15 years agoSo, my eclectic group of watchers, I have a question for you. Have any of you done fan dancing or fire spinning before? Do you happen to have any preferred tutorial videos for fire fans, by any chance? Y'see, I'm trying to pick it up at the moment, now that my fans have come in. (Granted, I still can't walk on my foot, but I'm preparing for when I can again.) Anything you've got will help!
If you don't know what I'm talking about, take a look at this.

Glass + foot = ouch!
Posted 15 years agoI'm now the proud owner of four stitches! This is what you get when glass goes into a normal trash bag, and then you go to take out the trash.
Mainely awesome.
Posted 15 years agoI'm visiting Maine right now. It's pretty nice! The only problem is the iron content of the rocks; it makes a metal detector basically unusable. Part of this trip's plan was treasure hunting, but what can ya do?
I DID get to see Spamalot, though, which was pleasantly surprising.
Also, I think I'll be starting a new batch of mead soon. I really should start gifting bottles out at conventions.

Sunday AC artist with an X?
Posted 15 years agoI'm looking for an artist I commissioned at AC. Unfortunately, the most I remember is that he was in the way back row of artist alley on Sunday, I believe, towards the left side, and his name either started with or contained an X. Had a fair amount of horror art on his table. Anybody know who I was talking about?
Fail.
Posted 15 years agoDidn't get the job. Got through a couple rounds of interviews; suspect they found people with my skillset who were closer, so they wouldn't have to do relocation stuff.
On the plus side, I'm now free to do stuff to the house, since it'll actually matter.
Defcon's over, and it was a blast. One of the presenters linked me to a room over on Anthrochat where I can probably find some other furries in the field, which would be nice. Plus his talk was pretty awesome. I'd hate to run into it in action on any code I have to analyze, but that's hardly the point.
Also, I got a new electric toy, mwahaha.

Anthrocon! And Defcon!
Posted 15 years agoI'll be at both! Want to hang out?
Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention some rather momentous happenings in this kitty's life. First, I bought my first house! Hooray!
Second, I might have to move almost immediately, because Google might be offering me a job out in California! Double hooray!

Life is strange. You never know where you'll end up.
Posted 16 years agoJust an observation based on the past year or so. So hey, happy new year, everyone! Should have some new commissions coming up soon.
I think I'm going to be looking for a job soon, too. My Dissatisfaction Gauge has almost reached the point where it's equal to my Income Honeycomb Chalice. When that point occurs, I go into a rage and reset all aggro and contracts!
Other than that, I'm giving Aion a try. If you play, give me a shout. I'd love to have people to play with.
Also working on buying a house still, and figuring out better ways to metal detect, and cooking lots, and.... and... life is life. Full of complication.

House hunting sucks, Defcon, and Seattle.
Posted 16 years agoMy third offer got turned down. I've come in as backup for two of the three. Grumble, grumble.
In other news... I made Focaccio for the first time Sunday, and it was quite tasty.
Also! I'm attending Defcon at the end of the month. Any other furries there this year?
Finally, I'll be in Seattle for a wedding the weekend after. What's there to see?

Birthday, sick, house offer declined.
Posted 16 years agoBlah, been one of those weeks, I guess. Tomorrow's my birthday, but I had to take today off from work because I have a damnably persistant UTI. I've been on meds for it, and they've made it recede a couple times, but it keeps coming back. ARGH. Makes it REALLY tough to sleep.
Also, I've made two offers on houses so far, both around 30k more than the asking prices of the places, and both have gone to other people. Good housing market for buyers, my ass.
In other words, bitch bitch, whine whine, the world isn't cooperating. Could be worse.

Defcon!
Posted 16 years agoOkay, so I've gotta ask. Is anyone heading to Defcon this year out in Vegas? As it turns out, my company's sending me, probably alone, and it's gonna be AWESOME. Just want to know if any of you'll be out there, too! If so, we should meet up for lunch or somesuch.
Mead update!
Posted 16 years agoWoot! My first batch of mead is finally in the bottle and ready to age. Yes, granted, it kinda tastes like crap at the moment. (Rather, it tastes HIGHLY alcoholic and not sweet enough.) Supposedly, though, the taste gets drastically better around the 6 month to one year mark. So Thursblot this coming year will be with my own mead, and I'll try to bring some to AC2010, too, assuming it comes out well!
Regardless of whether the mead is to my taste this time around, I've proven that I can DO it. Now I just need to tweak until I'm happy with it. I think my first order of business will be to find a yeast that has a slightly lower alcohol tolerance, so that more sugar will be left behind.
Aside from that, I got a new car. My old one died a terrible, horrible death, but it was old enough that I can hardly blame it. 14 years is a decent lifetime for a car, in my opinion. So I now have an Infiniti G35X. We'll see how it goes, it'll either be awesome and last forever, or cost me much more than I want to put into it. Don't know which yet.
Hm... my project list is thinning out again. Time to find more fun stuff to do!

What caliber for house hunting?
Posted 16 years agoSo, I'm on the prowl for housing currently. Found a few nice places, and a few dumps. I want a place I can turn into a project, and I found a good candidate not too long ago. Unfinished basement, needs the rugs replaced and some reinforcement on the deck, but I think it'll work out for me. Plus, I should be able to run some ethernet relatively easily because of the house's structure.
Mead-wise, still waiting for second stage fermentation before bottling.
Other projects finished have been modding an original XBox, seeing a few concerts, and constructing and destructing various computers.
*Goes down task list* Hm... so much to do, so much to do. Anyone here learned to pick locks? Got any good reference materials? Always been curious about that, and though I understand the basics, I've never practiced.

No AC this year, I think.
Posted 16 years agoRight... looks like I'll be missing AC this year, unfortunately. The time's just a problem for me. (And it doesn't help that Kael won't be able to go either, and that I don't have a place to stay yet, etc.)
Really, though, the deal is that I SHOULD be in the midst of moving into a new house that week.
As in, MY new house.
One I'll own.
*Crosses fingers with excitement!*

Batch #1 in the bucket.
Posted 17 years agoThere's nothing quite as much fun as making something yourself, and seeing what you've created. Granted, that's a bit off yet, but my first batch of mead is in the fermentation bucket. In two weeks, it'll be transferred to the carboy, and then in two more weeks, bottled. So it doesn't seem like it'll be ready before AC, sadly.
That said, I'll try to bring a few bottles to whatever cons I attend so people can sample it, assuming it comes out any good. *Grin* New incentive for people to come say hello, I guess! Who turns down free drinks?

Homebrew preparations.
Posted 17 years agoHello to all of you once more!
So, I'm once again undertaking a project I have no previous experience with. I've picked up all of the basic supplies I'll need to start brewing 5-gallon batches of mead, the drink of the gods. Given supplies and an appropriate amount of bottles, I should be able to put out one batch a month, and after 6 months more of aging, it'll be ready to drink.
I'm just waiting on a supply of honey right now, though I should be touring an apiary later this week.
Anyone have any previous experience with these, or suggestions for flavors?
Hm... I wonder if I can get some ready to bring with me to AC...

Happy yule to you all.
Posted 17 years agoRemember to leave your boots out tonight, filled with hay and sugar, so that Sleipnir will have something to eat during the Wild Hunt. Of course, if you do, then Odin will leave you a gift for your kindness!
Rock Band 2
Posted 17 years agoSo. Now that I'm FINALLY done with that GCIA test, I finally have some free time! Woo! So, anyone out there have a PS3 copy of Rock Band 2 and want to play some? My username is Kjatar.
Or any other PS3 game, honestly. I haven't done coop gaming in, well, a long time now. Just send me a poke.
...or if you're in the area, grab some people and head over for DRUNKEN rock band, 'cause hearing the singer slur the words to My Sharona or Ballroom Blitz is awesome.

Concerts, jobs, and turkey, oh my.
Posted 17 years agoIt's been a busy <unspecified period of time> for me, but things're going a bit more smoothly now. I may be on AIM more often, but we'll see how it goes.
Anyways!
I got to see a concert on Thanksgiving, given by Cruxshadows. I'm kind of a fan of their music, until I went to the show. Now I'm a big fan. That group has style, that's for sure. And they're friendly as anything, which is always points in my book.
Next up: Paul and Storm and Jonathon Coulton in February, unless something else piques my interest.
Anyone seen anything fun lately? Any bands you'd really suggest seeing live?

Art-starved.
Posted 17 years agoNnf... for some reason, I'm really craving some new art. The problem is, though, I try to limit myself to around ten pieces on the list to wait for at once, and I've already reached that. Of course, some of those don't look like they're going to be in anytime soon. One particular set is almost at the three year mark. *Grumble* I just can't convince myself to write off the older ones as losses.
Halloween
Posted 17 years agoSo here I am, gathering the implements of a vampire hunter.
I gotta say, I LOVE Halloween. It's my favorite holiday. The idea of a holiday designed for dressing up, running around, and acting crazy is really up my alley.
With all that's going on this year, I didn't get TOO much time to work on my costume. Still, I think I've managed to pull off a decent Trevor Belmont. I just need a stopwatch and a tiny double-headed axe and I'll have all the traditional subweapons, too!
Now, to carry garlic or not... or maybe a blue crystal... hm...
I was really considering doing Simon, but I didn't want to go with the fuzzy loincloth or fuzzy skirt that all the concept art for him shows. Looks silly as anything.
