Posted 2 years agoValentine's Sale (Platonic/Polyam/Aro-friendly) [Closed]
Posted 3 years agoHello all!!
From today until Valentine's Day*, I'm having a Valentine's Sale.
Conditions - 50% off the second character (so 1.5x base) in any piece that specifically celebrates two people's relationship together. Can be OCs if you want too.
This is inclusive to friendships, QPPs and aro relationships, but for those aros who are romance-repulsed, keep your eyes peeled for a YCH coming up!
For 3+ friends or polyam couples, the discount will be decided case-by-case to keep things fair.
Baseline prices! https://www.furaffinity.net/view/43448221/
* Adjusting for complexity -- I may not be able to finish large pieces if it's too close to the 14th but you can always ask!

im queer as fuck
Posted 4 years agoHi I haven't formally said so but just to be totally clear
I'm queer as hell. I'm a gay arospec ace trans man and that's just for starters.
When I was a minor I didn't know much about queerness and so a lot of cisnormative stuff seeped into my work.
I'm going to take more efforts to shift my work to be explicitly queer-friendly.
ALSO, I've learned a lot about tons of other matters, too.
This account is not a safe space for racism, ableism, queerphobia of any kind, or cops
I'm seriously not comfortable with anyone commissioning me or engaging in my work who knowingly goes against this.
It's one thing not to know (understandable) but if you refuse to listen to the groups hurt by this stuff, then yeah, no thanks
I have tried to purge my gallery of anything that went against these principles.
I am always willing to hear out anything I might be doing wrong on these fronts, not that I'd ever expect it.
As one example, if you want me to change the pronouns on any artwork / ref sheet I did for you in the past just lmk.
HAPPY PRIDE >:)

give me songs about islands / castaways
Posted 5 years agoLately I've been coming up with a couple stories about some OCs being stranded on an island (one is a comedy and one is a drama AU). Then I realized some music I listen to is Thematically Relevant.
Such as: The Whitest Boy Alive -- Island and The Police -- Message in a Bottle. Also I guess Mother Mother -- The Sticks could be classified as a consensual island song.
What are your favorite island/being-stranded/roughing-it themed songs? of any genre/emotional tone :0 looking to expand my ~collection~
edit: sorry for slowish responses, I've been afk a lot lately and I want to make sure I listen properly to these songs!

How often is too often, for reminder posts?
Posted 5 years agoFor the majority of being on FA, I haven't done a whole lot of things that need reminder posts, so it's a bit new to me.
Recently, like with Inktober and the dinkle YCH, I tried to keep it to around once or twice a week. I also made it slightly more frequent as the deadline came up.
But what's y'all's opinion on reminder posts? At what point does it start to be annoying?
For me as a watcher, I think it's too much when it's multiple times a day and starts to crowd out other artists' art.

โ 20% OFF ALL* COMMISSIONS! โ
Posted 5 years agoYo. I'm in a bit of a financial Bind at the moment, so I'm offering 20% off for a while. There are also various YCHes and things like that coming up.
UPDATE: Thank you guys so much! I was able to cover what I needed, but I'm leaving the discount open during the COVID scare too.
At least for a while. I'll make a "last minute" post before I'm ready to close them!
The discount applies to every commission type except "silly" comms (beans, dinkles, chibis).
There are also slightly different rules for ref sheets/design comms, extra characters, and BGs (see "more info" below).
They will still have WIPs and such like normal commissions. They don't have to be artistic freedom.
You can comment or note me if interested!
EXAMPLES:
Discount prices for the more popular comms can be seen here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/35150719/ All prices above assume a fullbody character with no background.
My commission info tab has an example for everything.
But if you want more examples, my gallery has subfolders for each commission type. For example, here's the folder for full color. Bear in mind the date of creation.
TURNAROUND:
Currently, I'd estimate around 2 months for an average fullbody comm.
I'll provide a specific estimate before payment is sent.
-
Slots (no hard limit):
1.
2.
3.
4.
5. [offsite]
6.
7.
8.
-
More Info:
-They don't need to be artistic freedom, you can have specific ideas. However, if the commission idea is highly specific in that it needs a lot of back-and-forth to get it right, like a design commission or full illustration, that costs extra time. I'll determine what to do on a case-by-case basis here.
-You CAN get extra characters or backgrounds with these. Normally, extra characters are +60%, and backgrounds are +50% on average. The percentages apply as normal, not to the discount.
For example: If you got a painterly (normally $80, discounted to $64), and you wanted an extra character, the discount would be applied based off of the original price (i.e. 48), not the post-discount price (38.40).
So the total would be 64 + 48 for a total of $112.
-Ref sheets already have a lowish margin, so I can't afford to discount them. But, I can offer a free sketch or icon of your choice along with it!
-Complex designs (wings, intricate markings, etc) still cost some extra. Usually it's just rounding up.

Could anyone rec games I could get for my sibling??
Posted 6 years agoChrimbus approaches....
-They're 16 so nothing super graphic.
-I know they're kind of stressed out by games with a strict time-limit mechanic.
-I think they like horror in theory? but it depends on the kind. No cheap jumpscare only stuff.
Some games they like (no real order):
Stardew Valley
Terraria
Minecraft
Starbound
Rimworld
INSIDE
Papers, Please
Doki Doki Literature Club
Ace Attorney
Undertale (ofc)
Don't Starve
Snipperclips
Breath of the Wild
Super Mario Odyssey
Pokemon in general
Cheap would be very good if possible. Bonus points if it's something that would be enjoyable to play together.
(whether it's actually a co-op game or not - we play Ace Attorney and Pokemon SWSH on one system but as a "team," for instance!)
They have access to Steam, 3DS and a Switch. and like.... emulators.
EDIT: YALL THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSES I'll be looking into everything!

NOTES:
-The form allows you to specify constraints, like making it fullbody or having a background, or keeping artistic freedom.
-If you go with freedom, I may not follow the loose tiers above depending on what I think works best.
-The PWYW operates on a $-per-hour basis. For instance, if you asked for a $5 fullbody, it would be done very quickly / roughly.
If you asked for a $30 bust, it would have a lot more detail and rendering in proportion to the price.
-Multiple characters can be done, but it would roughly double the necessary time spent, so you should plan for about twice as much as the price tiers above.
-"Reserved" means the slot has been requested but money has not changed hands yet. If you want a reserved slot, check back to see if it's closed later.
These are first-come first-serve. The queue will be arranged in first-come order rather than this default order.
You CAN submit your own prompt or tweak a prompt instead as well. Just make sure to keep it brief and general.

50% off painterly type comm! (1 slot left!)
Posted 6 years agoI'm wanting to try a different approach to my sketch-based comms.
Mostly, I want to try using a softer brush.
One of the slots has to be painterly, since I want to try out a super different approach with it. Usually I've used clean thick lineart for them, but I want to try softer, gentler outlines for it, so it can stand apart from cel.
It'll be a mixture between the two painterly examples linked below; closer to the first one.
So! I'm offering 20% off my sketch-based comms!
(The painterly-like one is actually 50% off, since it's so different.)
Rules:
-Any gender/species welcome!
-These aren't wingits, they can be like any other comm. Artistic freedom, or you can specify what you want.
-You can add another character(+75%) or a background (+% varies).
-Turnaround: I'll most likely have them all done within 3 weeks or so!
Thank you! :3

MUSICAL IRON ARTIST - Batch 1 open!
Posted 7 years agoSo the basic premise here is - I draw your character based on some music you send me.
I've been wanting to do this for a while! I love drawing and I need some more music, so this is a great way to spread some tunes. :3
A few notes:
-Colors will be based on the music, not the ref colors. If you really want it to match, tell me ahead of time and we can work something out.
-It's better to send a few varied songs, like 2-5 or so. I pick one in the end, but some songs play nicer with my synesthesia than others. If you send an album, highlight a favorite song from it.
-Instrumental music and lyrics are both good! Just bear in mind I'm going off of the actual music tone and not the lyrics.
-All genders/species/etc allowed, including humans/humanoids
-These are generally full-body, but keep in mind that some parts may be cropped off to fit the mood better.
-Since they're experimental, the exact appearance of them will vary a lot from pic to pic. Textures, colors, approaches will all depend on the music.
-No WIPs, but I will make changes at the end if I have made any mistakes.
For this iron artist, I have 3 price tiers available.
"Bones" (lineart, $20) - emphasizes the texture and mood of the music, rather than the color. B/W version and monochrome version will be provided. Example (monochrome version)
"Fields" (flats, $35) - emphasizes the color scheme over all else; semi-lineless fields of color. Example and Example 2
"Form" (shading, $50) - has lineart, shading, and rendering. Emphasizes form. Example
Since these are artistic freedom the turnaround should be pretty quick!
If you want more info, the full ToS is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/.....it?usp=sharing
Let me know if you guys have any questions! :3 Thanks for checking it out.

Musical Wing-Its
Posted 8 years agoI was kind of thinking about doing these for a while. I sometimes get pretty strong color synesthesia to music, so I think it'd be really cool. Basically, the premise is that you send me a song and a character and I design the commission around the 'feel' of the music. Would anyone be interested? I was thinking they'd be $50 - lined, flatted and shaded. There would also be an ambient background based around the song's aesthetic. Since these are wing-its, the pose would be up to me, as well as the shading style - and I might play around with color palettes as well. The quality level will definitely be above simple shaded (which is the $50 commission tier).
I tend to prefer focusing on the music's feel, not its actual meaning, so I think I'd have an easier time deriving a strong aesthetic from instrumental / mostly instrumental songs over ones with the focus on their lyrics. Lyric songs are fine to send of course but I may not always use the lyrical content to make the aesthetic choices. Sending multiple songs for me to choose from would be a good idea in case I can't get into one.
There's no examples of this exact thing, but here is an example of simple shading: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/22102139/ The lines and flats will be of the same quality, the shading will be of better / more intricate quality, and it will have a background with 'more to it'. I may be a bit experimental with these things, but I'll make sure it's of a higher quality.
I recently got this commission that was done to music as well! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/23831826/ This one was a much bigger-scale commission, though - these wing-its won't be this detailed and they'll probably be a bit more freeform.
I can only take one or two slots at the moment, but I'd like to know if there's interest as well! I would love to do an iron artist of these sometime.

Migrating art programs!
Posted 8 years agoI'm officially going to be moving all my commissions from SAI into Photoshop. PS has a lot more options with what it can do, and the work has a somewhat more naturalistic feel in the end. I will still use SAI if requested, but during normal operations, I'll be using it only for ref sheet commissions since they are intended to look "digitally perfect", and the stabilizer helps with that.
The style difference is not huge, but it's a little more organic and emotive feeling to use PS in my opinion. SAI has limited tools and they're less robust. SAI's big strength is in hyper-perfect, "digital" lineart, but I personally prefer the somewhat more loose lines PS offers. You can still request SAI for that lineart quality, but I will be defaulting to PS for the future. Depending how this turns out, there may be a price raise coming in the future because of the extra options I can use to apply texture and rendering that I wouldn't be able to use before. Seeing as it's better-looking and more time-consuming, I think that's fair.

I've been using PS for certain things already, but I'm going to be making the change for everything now! (except refs)
I expect it'll be fine, but if anyone is diametrically opposed to this for whatever reason, please let me know why so I can take it into consideration.

This is my test journal for testing formatting stuff
Posted 8 years agoYo yo yo!
I wanna try to do something for inktober this year.
So... I'm doing my own inktober. With my OWN PROMPTS, why not.
Digital; any species/gender, including humans!
Single character per prompt only.
These are gonna be experimental and artistic-freedomey.
If you donโt specify constraints, hereโs a loose idea of the price tiers:
$5:______headshot/bust
$10:_____waist/thigh-up
$15:_____fullbody
$30:_____fullbody and background
$30-50+: complex background and/or tighter rendering
Etc.
However! You can request bust/waist-up/fullbody/background and Iโd work within that constraint.
For instance, if you asked for a $5 fullbody, it would be done very quickly / roughly. If you asked for a $30 bust, it would have a lot more detail and rendering in proportion to the price.
EXAMPLES:
Headshot (about $5)
Standard waist-up with bg (about $15)
The following two examples are lineart meant for a colored piece.
As pure BWs they would have grayscale shading like the above pics in addition to the hatching.
Detailed bust (about $20)
Very detailed waist-up (about $40)
EXAMPLES:
Headshot [$5]
Waist-up [$10]
Fullbody [$15]
Thigh-up with bg [$25]
Fullbody with bg [$30]

So... question to my watchers (comic, and the "human" word)
Posted 9 years agoI'm aware that this place is called FURaffinity and all...
But I've been working on a plot-based comic for a while, and it doesn't have any furries in it.
:D
It's all humans, all the time.
I'm nowhere near done with the storyline of it; I want it all planned out before I ever start making it. So it's gonna be a while. Except! I'm doing a series of test pages for a scene, just to practice doing comics, since I'd never done it before this. I dunno exactly how long it's gonna be yet... I'd guess in the ballpark of 40-50 pages?
I was wondering if it would be frowned upon to post the test scene here, since it's.. well, not furry. I wouldn't post the entire series, of course - I want to get its own hosting for that. I also wouldn't start posting until I had enough buffer to guarantee updates on a regular basis.
BUT I GUESS I'm just curious if you guys are interested or not. Would you try to read it? Tolerate its existence but ignore it? Or do you hate human stuff with a passion? I won't stop doing furry stuff anytime soon, and I'm gonna do this scene anyway, so it's just a matter of getting extra art posted. Lemme know your honest thoughts.

1 cel-shaded slot open! (Taken)
Posted 9 years agoI'm almost done with everything on my queue, and I need an updated example for the pricelist I'm making. So... Anyone want 25% off a cel-shaded fullbody? So, $55! First to claim it gets it :B Turnaround of about a week.
My cels are very dramatic and high contrast. These examples are a bit old, but they'll work:

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16783517/ (portrait)
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15611342/ (old fullbody)
You can comment here, note me, or email at klippybluefox[at]gmail.com to claim! Specific scenario, artistic freedom, or anything in between are all a-okay.
(An extra character on this would total it to $80, and if you want a background the price'll depend on how complex it is.)

NSFW COMMISSION POLICY UPDATE!
Posted 9 years agoSome NSFW is now available!
REF COMMS:
-I will not display the NSFW version in my gallery. Due to this, a SFW version must exist*.
-Commissioners can display the NSFW version, the SFW version or both in their galleries. (Credit must still be given for the NSFW ones.)
-If someone has already bought a SFW ref from me, they can now commission a NSFW update to the reference, if they want.
-Erections and such are allowed, but it shouldn't be anything excessive. If you're unsure, don't be afraid to ask!
OTHER NSFW CONTENT:
-Artistic nudity is always allowed, provided that there is a SFW version*.
-Other NSFW is approved on a case-by-case basis.
-Fetishes: It honestly depends on the fetish.
-Again, if you're unsure, don't be afraid to ask! I don't judge; the worst I can do is say no.
For all comms, I prefer having a SFW version to post.
*I CAN skip the SFW version, but the opportunity cost for private commissions is higher than just making a SFW edit.
So this would only be feasible in the case of commissions which cannot be made SFW (or if they want it to be a private comm anyway).

Question to watchers/people who buy art?
Posted 9 years agoNot art from me specifically, just art in general.
Currently, on my submissions, I follow the formula of putting the BASE price for the "commissions like this cost X" part (with some exceptions). So for example, on ref sheets, even if the ref I posted only has 2 poses, or if it is more complex and has 4 poses, I still put the price for what a typical ref sheet (3 poses, 1 headshot) costs.
Would it be better to put the exact price of the thing that was posted, and hope the defaults aren't misinterpreted? Should I put both the exact AND the default?
Actually now that I think about it, does the "commissions like this cost X" help you guys in the first place? I don't do it to sound commissioner-whorey. Sometimes, when I was a commissioner, I would really want something like what the artist posted, but wouldn't have a clue what kind of commission it was, so that's why I started doing the "$X" thing. It also gives an idea of whether you could afford something or not.
The $X links to a spreadsheet that contains the up to date pricing information, in case the cost changed between when I uploaded the picture and when the person sees it. Which is part of why I'm worried about posting the exact price of a thing, since the spreadsheet would say something different and that might confuse people. x_x

Obligatory "other places" journal
Posted 9 years agoI keep changing what I use often. x_x I am not leaving FA, but it's been about a year since I made one of these other-places journals besides.
I think I will continue allowing FA notes for now, since I just dump everything on my Trello immediately anyway, but I'm also going to mention the email option outwardly to people.
I'm most active on my Twitter: https://twitter.com/NotARealFox
Also my telegram, which is @ NotARealFox. (I just changed it from @klippy!!) It's got a Nathan icon, not a Klippy icon, but don't worry, it's me.
I also have a skype, @klippybluefox, but I only really use it for im'ing commissioners that don't have Telegram, so I may be slow to respond on there. I also don't do voice or video.
Don't be afraid to chat with me on these places, if you'd like! :>
As for art sites. Formerly, I was Klippy on all these, and those accounts still exist, but I'm migrating my account name to NotARealFox where I can. I didn't bother to check if the names were changeable, but either way, it was waaay too much effort to try to catch my old accounts up to date when it came to art, so I'm just starting fresh. I'll upload a few of my best works here over time and then hopefully keep up to date with new posts? I'm a little bad with doing that, though. Currently, there's nothing on any of these.
