Species: spinogrisus (lat. spinogrisus doktinaktus)
Weight: 75-90 kg.
Inhabits mostly rocky areas near the sea or large lakes.
Anatomical peculiarities: hollow bones. Shoulders and arms are close to human, and have a collar-bone. Intelligence is equal to human’s.
Due to unique lower-jaw joint position spinogrisus can open his mouth up to 130 degrees
wide.
Physiological peculiarities:
Spinogrisusi are fire-breathing.
Colours: The main colouring varies from sandy-gold to dark brown, depending on places they inhabit. Spinogrisusi living on the sea sides are lighter than ones who inhabit lake areas.
The colouring of the limbs is usually the same as the main colour or darker - even black.
Markings are different (except any kind of spots) mostly stripes and tattoos.
The length of the crest and mane varies widely. The colour is ALWAYS the same as the main body colour
The richest palette of colours is in spinogrizusi’s plumage - the diversity of colours and patterns is unlimited, even spots can be present.
Average lifespan: 150-200 years, 300 in rare occasions.
As I have already mentioned, there are two breeds of spinogrisusi - sea and lake. The habitable area for both is truly wide, except for extremely cold climate.
Lake spinogrisusi are smaller, have thicker and shaggier fur, usually red or light-brown. Plumage colouring is mostly of neutral shades.
The picture showing a difference in growth is below submitted:
At the left - the lake spinogrisus (Henreek), on the right - sea (River_Den)
PIC
Sea spinogrisuses are up to 3 metres high and are a bit more athleticly built than the lake breed. The fur is short, and colouring varies from light pale-yellow to dark-gold. Plumage has mostly bright “tropical” colours in it. The feather water-proofing is superior to that of the lake spinogrisusi. If compared to birds, the feathers are similar to “diving” species like pelican or halcyon.
These animals are loners and rarely fight for territory. Fire-breath is used mainly for self-defence (as burning a foe’s plumage is quite an effective deterrant XD) Females are usually more aggressive than males and have a less balanced temper.
Considering food.
The easiest way to kill a spinogrisus is to deprive it of access to water.
They feed solely on fish and seafood. Their jaws are used for keeping the prey still.
Spinogrizusi can’t chew, so they swallow their food whole. They survive well without food
for 3 or even 7 days. The worst thing for spinogrizusi is thirst - they drink often and a lot - and almost anything which has h2o in it. Vulnerability of sea spinogrizi is in their need of salty water: they are absolutely unable to drink any other kind of water and die fast due to the lack of salt. However sea salt may be replaced with table salt. So the perfect dinner for Sp. is sushi and a glass of sea water.
