Last Day Of My 20s
Posted 11 years agoToday is the last day of my 20s. At the end of today it will be confirmed that I wasted my youth. :P
It's hard not to feel a bit bleh about it. At the same time - in the past couple of months I have put in motion (with the help of my dad) something which could be an exciting change for the new year. I'm just not quite ready to talk about it yet! It has the potential to really shake things up and bring something more to my life. I'm glad that I started with it before the big 3-0. Because symbolic reasons.
This weekend I am off home to Glasgow to see my dad and do some Xmas shopping to celebrate my birthday. And get a whole new haircut that I'm probably too old for (something like this: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/500321839823820919/). But in the words of Germaine Greer/a number of other people this quote has been attributed to - "You're only young once, but you can be immature forever". YEP.

Loss of a Pet
Posted 11 years agoYesterday, we had to have my dog Riker (greyhound cross whippet) put to sleep. He was 12 years old and I had had him since he was a tiny puppy.
Since Monday he became rapidly ill ending up with a stroke on Thursday which left him suffering badly. He was thought to have a severe neurological problem. I do not doubt the decision I made but the memories of him being in pain and distress on Thursday night and Friday morning will haunt me for some time.
I will miss Riker deeply since he had been with me my entire adult life (since I was about 18) and shared pretty much all my memories with me, came to all the places I moved to, moved from country to country with me. I take consolation in that Riker never had any other illness in his entire 12 year life until the end (unless you count the little bit of arthritis he'd developed in the past couple of years, but it never seemed to bother him too much). And that for the last week, and for the end, we were lucky enough to find a truly caring and wonderful vet who did everything he could to help us and council us.

The Broken Elbow Update (Commissioners pls read)
Posted 11 years agoFor anyone who missed it, last Saturday I fell and had the misfortune to break my elbow.
So! Due to stuff and nonsense (just not gonna go into it here..it's tiresome) I did not get a smaller/lighter cast put on yesterday as scheduled. Not too happy about that, needless to say. I am quite tired of this huge, heavy, hot plaster cast but am now stuck with it for 3 weeks, till October 13th (I shall be counting down the days!).
The one-arm thing is interfereing with my art more than I had hoped. I can't do digital because I have no hand for the keyboard or to reach tablet hotkeys (no ctrl-z! no shift! v fun) and traditional is awkward - my lack of a left hand to move the paper around, as is my custom, is problematic in making sketches larger than A5. I am working on colouring the commission I had fully sketched out right now, but for the moment this must also be done in small doses since simple things like "taking the cap off a pen" become awkward.
The bottom line - every full colour commission, especially digital, will be delayed. I'm very sorry about that. But what I can offer my commissioners who do not wish to wait is a full refund. Just get in touch and let me know. No trouble at all.
If I can figure out some kind of smaller, more manageable commission type to offer you guys in the meantime I may do so! It is terribly boring to be stuck home not able to do much. >_>

This is a heads-up that art will be a bit delayed because I now have to wear a huge unwieldy cast slung across my chest - I expect when I get to downgrade it to a smalller one (in a bit over a week) that i'll be able to get back to work. I am right handed thankfully!
I do have a finished piece to scan and upload (hopefully tomorrow) though so don't be amazed at my healing prowess when you see that. :D

EF Trip Report
Posted 11 years agoWell, I got back from Eurofurence on Sunday night but I have been deadddd so haven't gotten round to making a post yet.
This year's EF was of course in the new hotel, the Estrel, and I have to say I was quite impressed with the hotel itself in most regards. The new Dealer's Den was very nice - very spacious, very bright. The art show was large though unfortunately I got a really bad spot in a corner facing a wall. :( Rooms were okay (though a step down from the old hotel), on-site food was pretty damn expensive and not really to my tastes, breakfast good, drinks slightly less eye-wateringly expensive than the old hotel, staff were friendly and efficient. Downsides were the elevators (OH GOD) and the area of the hotel which was minging.
I got to see fewer people than I'd have liked this year for various reasons, but was happy to reconnect with a couple of old friends which was awesome. <3 Got to meet some lovely new people, talk with commissioners/buyers again which I always love, and generally it was a relatively stress free con. I say relatively because there will always be the OH GOD MUST FINISH ALL OF THE WORK TIME IS TICKING OH GOD. ;)
A huge thanks to everyone who dropped by my table in the dealer's den to purchase things or just to say hi! And of course to those who took home my artwork from the art show. I have two pieces left from that ("Astekhu" and "King of the Covers") and they are currently available to buy on my Storenvy along with a variety of my remaining prints and some original art magnets : http://korrok.storenvy.com/
My next convention will be next year at NordicFuzzCon in Sweden. Definitely one to check out, it looks like it will be an awesome event!

Comment About My Pinup Art - Thoughts?
Posted 11 years agoFirstly let me say, I am not offended by this in the slightest. I find it interesting, and I suppose had not really thought about it much until it was pointed out to me now a few times.
The comment is that my pinup characters, particularly the female characters, always tend to look too strong/dominant/confident, where shy/submissive characters are much more popular. And it's true, there's very few I've drawn that look shy and submissive - it usually runs from playful to "rawr".
So tell me, people of FA - what are your thoughts on this? Do you prefer pinups where the character is more shy and coy? Would you like to see me draw more of them? I'm really interested to know!

So apparently I am basically "boyish" despite spending most of my free cash on clothes, makeup and nail polish, watching beauty blogs and being really into high end makeup brands etc. Well okay! :S

So apparently I am basically "boyish" despite spending most of my free cash on clothes, makeup and nail polish, watching beauty blogs and being really into high end makeup brands etc. Well okay! :S
I actually have a big problem with this kind of thing because they reinforce to women who aren't part of this stupid stereotype that they are somehow less, that they're not "real" women and it leads to gender confusion and depression. This is not what being girly or boyish is about and it's sad that some people would have you think so.

Ye Olde Annual "Post Your Wishlist" Meme
Posted 12 years agoIt's that time of year again when I've seen these popping up, so I figured I'd post mine. :) I've bought something for someone every year and a couple of times I've had nice packages, so it's always been fun!
~Step 1~
Make a post in your journal containing your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple to really big. The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
If you wish for real-life things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where folks could get in touch with you.
~Step 2~
Surf around other lists to see who has posted their list. If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream for free--do it. You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call. There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special!
