What's next for me?
Posted 3 weeks agoI feel like I need to put some thoughts down here.
Three months ago I was laid off from my job. It was a good job, I did well, but my role was eliminated. It was very, very hard on me emotionally.
At this point I am considering if I have what it takes to create art for a living. It's much more than just creating the art itself. It's the whole business side of things. This is where I have very little experience, other than that I used to do the dealer table thing at cons. But I never really made a business plan, made complete schedules, or any of that type of thing. It was always off the cuff.
The idea of doing business for myself is a completely different mindset than that of being a W2 employee for my entire life. Even the thought of trying to run my own business is scary beyond measure.
Do I have what it takes to do such a thing? Where would I begin?
And if I made the effort to go legit, would anybody here like my art enough to want to buy some of it?

Fundraiser for Greg
Posted 11 months agoHey all. This is something I don't do very often, but in this case, seemed appropriate. A good friend of mine, Greg, formerly
GraveyardGreg, the writer with whom I've worked on many projects including our comic Profiles, has had to have emergency surgery for cancer of the tongue. Squamous cell carcinoma. The surgery was a success, and thankfully, insurance has helped with the medical bills, but he is still on the hook for the amount not covered by insurance. And we're not sure how high the bill will ultimately go.
So, our good friend
tyrnn is doing a fundraiser to help with these bills. I've thrown in some dragongold of my own, and hopefully you guys would consider throwing in a little bit. Every little bit helps.
You can track the progress on Tyrnn's BlueSky account.
Thank you all! *winghugs*

Krahnos of 2021
Posted 4 years agoMan, life is weird.
Getting older is weird.
Watching myself fade into obscurity while younger, more talented artists gain success that I only ever dreamed of, getting results far beyond my own efforts.
It's probably a good thing I decided to largely move in another direction as a career. That at least pays my bills and takes care of all that boring financial stuff.
But there's still a part of me that still wants that little thing called relevancy.
It's on me, I know. I haven't felt the muse in a long time. Not like I used to.
Art as fun is one thing, but art as a career is hard hard hard. My eternal props to those able to manage it.
Maybe at some point the muse will return. I'm not quite sure how to get to come back.

I'm still here
Posted 5 years agoI'm still around guys :) I'm looking for inspiration.
Missed me?
Posted 7 years agoHey guys. Yes, I've fallen off of the map in recent years. There's a lot that's been going on with me, and almost none of it has had to do with the furry fandom. Without getting too much into it, let's just say one career in the real world didn't work out, followed by a bunch of schooling and career change, and that hasn't really been working out either.
So now I'm at a bit of a crossroads.
Furry art has been my first love, followed by music. The only time I've ever really been happy doing a "job" (a term which here means doing something for someone else for money), has been creating something artistic. The career activities I've engaged in for the last 8 years has not even remotely made me happy. Now I'm considering if I really have it in me to pursue this avenue full-time or not. It seems that I have a bit of time to make a real go of it, in any case, without too much risk. My problem is I really don't know the first thing about being a self-employed entrepreneur.
I may have additional self-learning to do. In the meantime, in the same way a body-builder tries to get back into the game after the better part of a decade sitting behind a desk, I'll be working on getting my drawing paw back in shape.
Thanks for your support, friends!

Graduation!
Posted 12 years agoI'm graduated! Yay! A second time!
I have now completed my game art program, and am now taking some time to catch up on projects I've shoved on the back burner. At the same time, I am applying for jobs to see what I can find in the 3D art field. I've learned a hell of a lot these last two and a half years, made a lot of new friends, and reflected a lot on my life and what I was meant to be and do. I admit, I'm a little frightened, what with massive student debt and no job; it basically feels like the school says "Congratulations! You've made it through! Well, we've got your money now, so good luck!", although the career people are helping a little bit.
In any case, I just wanted to peek my snout in and show everyone I'm still alive. Still alive! And getting back to work on some projects.
The next few months are gonna be real interesting!
Loves all!

Makes me wonder...
Posted 13 years agoAfter frying my brain working on rigging all day, I've been thinking a lot about what I am currently accomplishing, and what has already been done. I feel like I am really only trying to catch up.. what I am learning now, and what I am accomplishing now has all been done before. I'm not treading any new ground, and I'm not really coming up with anything truly new and interesting. So, it makes me question... what am I doing? Have I missed the boat? Am I doomed to always be second, or third best, always several steps behind? I'd like to think I'm simply a late bloomer.. but is that just wishful thinking? I dunno. Maybe I really did miss the boat. Ten years ago. Now I feel like I swimming frantically trying to catch up to it.
Question about Second Life Avatar Creation
Posted 13 years agoI'm curious, is anyone aware of a forum somewhere online for artists interested in learning more about avatar creation in Second Life? I am aware now that it's possible to create purely mesh avatars in Second Life, but I have found it very difficult to find any cohesive tutorials on exactly how to create the character to Second Life spec.
More specifically, since I'm already very familiar with the process for creating the mesh itself (I use Autodesk Maya) and rigging it, I am attempting to find a sort of "checklist" of technical requirements in order to get the rigged mesh to work correctly within the Second Life engine. Things like:
-How many bones are allowed
-Can the shape of the skeleton be changed, or does it need to be exactly the same shape as the SL default skeleton
-How to "wear" the mesh over the SL default character, and hide the default character
-How to import and apply animated body parts, such as tails, eyes, and wings
I'm sure that some finer points of these things are jealously guarded by avatar creators who wish to sell their creations on SL, so I'm really just looking for a starting point. This is both to further my education as a professional 3D artist, and so I can FINALLY update my rather outdated avatar to something a little more modern.

Musical swooning
Posted 15 years agoOooh yeah...
Posted 15 years agoOohh yes. Have I got a treat in store for you, loyal fans. More on this VERY soon.
Updates
Posted 15 years agoHey all! A few of you have been asking about my appearant slowness in updating my FA. The reason for this is primarily because my most recent output has been comics work, as I have several projects of this type that have been on the backburner for far too long now. The degree of work involved in creating comics leaves little time for anything else, and so I've been attempting to draw attention to the dedicated
profiles page here on FA for new updates.
Not to worry.. I'll have plenty of new pinups and other things to upload here, as well as new musical performances (for those that like those). Just as soon as I get through my rather extensive backlog!
Current projects:
Profiles Issue 3
Heathen City
Wanderer Book 3
Various commissions long overdue

Eurofurence
Posted 15 years agoI am making a decision today.
It has been a long time since I have felt a real, true desire to attend a convention. Most of the time, it is a strictly business affair. Myself, chained to a dealer room table; rarely leaving to do anything fun.
I have heard for years how Eurofurence is the most awesome convention in existence, and for years I have been insanely jealous of those with either the financial means or the fame to go, even once. Well, this time, I am going to change that. For 2011, I am going to make a consious effort to go to EF, through whatever means possible. I have absolutely no idea how I am going to do that, but I WILL do it, while it still exists. Mark my words.
2010 will be the year of the Krahnos. I have made promises.. I will keep them. Profiles 3 will begin releasing tomorrow, Feb 14.
I am a good dragon.
