So just FYI…
Posted 7 years agoI'm on holidays for the next 3 weeks. This week will mostly be hanging around at home, maybe some chore stuff during the week, then a week with family. Might do some extra streams if I'm feelin' up to it ;)
Some mildly interesting work-related news
Posted 7 years agoSo last Friday was the work Christmas party, and later in the night we were hanging out at a bar (and after a few drinks), the topic of “so what do you do all weekend” came up, and I ended up spilling the beans about drawing furry porn in my free time 😝
It didn’t happen right away, but one of my (very outgoing) coworkers (well, technically my boss, but he feels more like a coworker) got quite curious about how my weekends went. Previously whenever the subject of the weekend came up, I was usually vague, but after all the years we’ve worked together there was only so many times I could use the excuse of “uhh, just relax and play video games?”
At the start I tried to vaguely hand wave the subject of my weekend drawing streams as being “something NSWF”, but he wasn’t falling for that ruse. ‘We’re not AT work right now” 😆
All in all, I guess they were fairly chill about it, so it wasn’t as bad as I feared it could have been. I even reflected on that moment when iCloud accidentally synced some unsaved art to my work computer. It turns out they really had been oblivious to my blunder!
I did hesitate a long while when they wanted to see some sample art, cuz yknow, udders might be a bit of a deep end to drop them into 🤣 but they did see one or two things. Mostly the “Lizard in a chair” cuz that was the quickest “SFW” thing I could dig up at short notice.
There was even a silly moment when a nearby bouncer overheard us and commented about his friend who overshared probably way too much about his furry lifestyle. Stop talking to everyone about your massive Bad Dragon dildo collection, Alex! 😝
But yeah, it’ll be uhh… interesting to see how things go around the office now that the furry cat is out of the bag. I guess this means at some point I oughta clarify things with my family too. They mostly know a lot already, but like at work I’ve been a bit vague on what I draw… not sure if or how I’d explain the udder thing to them though… 😝

Hey peeps
Posted 7 years agoHey what’s up peeps. This was a steam notification journal but since it’s been ages since I did a real journal, I might as well edit this one as a placeholder.
Saturday stream (over)
Posted 7 years agofinished for now, but I'll probably do another one tomorrow…? ;)

Still more art backlog left to upload
Posted 7 years agoI should call it quits for now since I need sleep, but just FYI I've got a bunch more stuff I need to get around to uploading, including two different varieties of revisited merge scenarios ;P
Sorry for taking so long to get around to uploading them, I had some bleh mood nonsense keeping me procrastinating for so long about getting my upload backlog in order.

3D Printer usage suggestions? :3
Posted 7 years agoSo recently I borrowed a 3D printer from my dad. It's a low-end-ish one from Aldi, but it prints some pretty neat stuff. So far I've only managed a few knick knacks here and there. Big stuff takes houuuuurs to print, so I get lost trying to plan ahead sometimes.
It'd be fun to print out some models, or toy sets or something, but Thingiverse is a little cumbersome to search through. If anyone has any suggestions (especially silly stuff and/or NSFW not on the main non-furry channels of the web) that might be fun, I'd like to hear 'em.
And yes, I'd love to print some Krees, but first I'd have to dive back into 3D modelling to do that :V

Posted 8 years agoJust wanted to replace that old moody journal with something else. I really oughta be sleeping right now, maybe do some streaming later after a few 7-9 hours of shuteye ;)
Stream cancelled (due to Internet connection woes…)

New streaming device setup
Posted 8 years agohttps://picarto.tv/KreeTheBasilisk
I'm trying out a new, highly-experimental setup by jury-rigging an Elgato HD60S into my Cintiq 13HDT's HDMI cable, so I can stream from my gaming rig instead of slowing down my Mac (and possibly causing brush lag).
The only trouble is I haven't got the brightness/contrast/etc calibrated quite right, and I left my Spyder at my parents' house :(
Yo
Posted 8 years agoSo hey, still around, just had a bit of a dry spell there. But I did manage to get that next chapter kicked off, at least! :P
I turn 30 soon :O (9th April)
Posted 8 years agoSo yeah my birthday has been slowly creeping up, not sure what to plan for it. My 30th even!
As for IRL partying, the best I've thought up so far is going to arcades in the city with my bro. Pacman Airhockey is the best :3

For those curious about me doing commissions
Posted 9 years agoSo a bunch of people have been asking me if I do commissions, and it might help to discuss it a bit.
I haven't really done many proper commissions, so:
1) I don't really have a good judgement on price atm. My day job is my money (approx $26 AUD / h). Extra work (even if it's drawing) might still feel like doing overtime.
2) Due to having said job, free time is the more scarce resource for me. I'm not quite sure how to schedule commissions between my own art plans.
3) There's been a few tentative requests for commissions already, so I'm a bit nervous about how I'd approach an order for a commission queue.
Perhaps I might be able to put together some time for commission drawing during a weekend art stream…? A couple hours here and there for things that aren't big pieces

Not Quite Normal
Posted 9 years agoSo yeah, I've settled on that as the name for my current comic nonsense (The first chapter being those ones titled "Milk").
Now with the last page (28) of the first chapter done, it's been a fun time getting here! Right now I'm taking a short break before diving into more of it. I've got plenty of ideas for future chapters in mind ;)
Thanks to those who made name suggestions, even though I ended up going with something else. I enjoyed the ideas and brainstorming regardless :)
Speaking of feedback, would anyone be interested in a NQN-themed Telegram chat group? It would be stream announcements and a chat about the comic, as well as my other general art stuff or related themes. I'm in a few other groups already but I feel too weird announcing all my own stuff on them since they've got their own group theme. Discord is also another potential platform if enough people would prefer that one over Telegram.
Edit: Group created, might as well see how this works out! https://t.me/joinchat/BYpuvkDRddXVw5gavN0oMg
Let me know if the invite link stops working

Looking for comic name suggestions
Posted 9 years agoGoing to be doing another Picarto stream today, mainly featuring more drawing of the next comic page. I've gotta milk these holidays while they still last! :P
I'll be starting at 11am AEST (Brisbane time), which I think is 7pm EST for you Americans ;) Streaming over now
https://picarto.tv/KreeTheBasilisk
I'm also interested in suggestions for an official name for this comic, so I can stop calling it "Milk comic". Something that encompasses all the silly (and probably TF-themed) adventures of Kree & friends.
So far, the best name I've thought of is "Not Quite Normal". Kree & friends, as well as the general furry-themed world they're in, fit that description pretty well :P

Holidays!
Posted 9 years agoSo I should probably let peeps know I'm on holidays for the next three weeks! Yayz :D
Of course, since I'll be visiting family for some of that time it might not be a completely all-day-every-day-art-drawing-bonanza, but I suspect it will allow some higher than usual amounts of additional stuff getting done :P

Possible streaming plans…?
Posted 9 years agoSo hey, last weekend I had some fun joining in a multi-stream last weekend, so I was thinking I might try something like that again this weekend too :P
>>>>> https://picarto.tv/KreeTheBasilisk <<<<<
It's been the first time in actual years I've done an actual stream of a drawing (owing to Internet issues mostly. Yaaaaay Australia…). The next ones probably won't be another 12-hour stream, that was a bit long, mostly because I wanted to finish off that comic page. So it made that stream a bit of a unique one since I already had something pre-existing I was already working on for 90% of the stream.
So now that I don't have that hanging over me anymore, I'm wondering what I should do for the next one:
## Work on the next page live…? ##
The most obvious idea, but it would also be a totally untested change to the dynamic of the whole thing. Usually I spent a lot of alone time just experimenting, that might not work well in a live setting. It might get a little boring at times. I dunno, would people want that? Or would it be too spoiler-y on top of everything else anyway?
## Freeform stream doodles…? ##
The next most obvious one would be, just draw doodles or whatever comes up. Probably taking suggestions from the audience (or other hosts, if there's a multi-stream), although emphasis on suggestions and not requests. As much as I like drawing stuff for peeps, some things are too complex/draining/time-consuimg to do.
## Themed stuff…? ##
Similar to above, but seeing as how we're close to that ol' fancy American holiday you folks are so fond of, perhaps something themed…?
## Live commissions…? ##
I haven't had a good track record at doing these in the past. Or much of a track record at all… but who knows maybe if they're quick or themed or something…? Don't get your hopes up though.
## Sound…? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ##
Due to Wacom being huge butts and making brush strokes jitter like crazy on Sierra, I'm currently on a makeshift external USB drive with El Capitan installed. A side effect is that my iTunes library is now marooned in a Sierra-only format. I'm waaaay too lazy to backport music at the moment, so no sound plans right now. In a multi-stream there's usually plenty of other musical peeps anyway. In theory I could set up a mic… but… I'm shy… >.>
## Time…? ##
Whenever everyone else's start, or as soon as I get out of bed in the morning, whichever comes later. :V
I've also been wondering if I should attempt to do any weekday streams after work? But the trouble is I'm in the Australia/Brisbane timezone (AEST, +10 offset), so I'm not sure anyone would be around to watch at that hour? Between 6-11pm local time (8-13am UTC, 1am-5am PDT, 3-8am CDT, 4-9am EDT, etc…) isn't the most ideal time for international streamin'… :(
## Party game break…? ##
I've had a lot of fun in the past with Ultimate Chicken Horse ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/386940/ ), so perhaps it would be fun to have some sort of half-drawing, half-party-game stream…? :P

Anyone know some good games/movies/etc with a lot of TF? :P
Posted 9 years agoI know it's a bit of a niche genre and I've probably seen a lot of them already, but I've been really hankering for some good ol' fashioned transformation, either in movie or interactive format. Anyone got any favourites? Either a small bit or a lot, any TF is good TF! :B
I mean, I've poked around a lot at that flash game here on little ol' FA called Nimin. It's entertaining, but it does get a tad repetitive and grindy after a while. The only couple of mainstream games that I can remember off the top of my head are, letsee…
- Majora's Mask, which is still probs my favourite Zelda game, for obvious reasons :B
- E.V.O., which had a cute little evolution mechanic. I suppose I ought to go back and properly finish that one someday.
- The unfortunately very mediocre Scaler… :\
- What else…? there must've been at least a few more… dangit…
So yeah, It's hard to find something that's more adventurous than just a tame "were-something" game mechanic (things like Twilight Princess… or… ¬_¬ the were-hog…)
And as for movies, all I can remember right now is The Sword in the Stone? Oh yeah, and Widget, the World Watcher used to be my jams back when I was a kid. :P The Magic School Bus had some fun TF every now and then (reptiles! wooooo!). Plus the Aladdin cartoon series had one or two TF episodes sprinkled in there
There's probably plenty I've forgotten/missed over the years though, which is why I'm curious to hear from you folks to remind/introduce me to them (I know I'm going to be hitting myself over a lot of ones I can't remember right now…) :B
Oh btw just in case anyone wants a heads up or whatever, my birthday is this weekend (the 9th)! :D I'm not entirely sure what to do, apart from stay home like a lazy lizard, which is what I do every weekend :V

State of the Kree address
Posted 9 years agoSo dangit, it's once again been ages since I made a new journal post. I'm just not good with journal posts, reading or writing them. Even back when I still used to haunt deviantART, that inbox would just build up with poor unread journals…
*ahem!* But aaanyway, I should say some (mildy?) interesting stuff:
- I got mees a Cintiq, I dids! :3 The Cintiq 13HD one. It's all new and different, and I'm still attempting to get the hang of it. I've spent so long with a tablet I've forgotten how to actually stare at my hands while drawing! :P
- Still doing fine at my now-not-so-new-ish web developer job! Lots of exciting developments with React and Redux and Webpack and other fancy Javascript-y things. I webs them nets guud I does. Sometimes I've been working a tad later than I'd like, but it's muuuuuuuch less stressful and more engaging than my previous two terrible jobs… so… net win? I'm not entirely certain how serious the office manager is when she says it, but I think my official title might actually be "Front-end Rockstar"? :V
- Uhhh… umm… ohh right! The comic. The comic that I draw. Still working on the next page, I swear! Sort of trying slightly new things a bit with the new Cintiq, but most of the delay is good-(bad?)-old-fashioned artist's block :( Every time I look at the relative date between pages posted I get sad, I really do wish I could be speedier in my art-ings.
- Speaking of art stuff, I think I really ought to get back into the habit of uploading more non-comic stuff. There's a bunch of (now quite) older stuff that I've been waiting until I get more comic done before posting (chronology and context and suchwhat), but I'm sure there's still stuff I could've uploaded by now.
So yeah, thats the newz!

Yo peeps
Posted 10 years agoSo hey, I've been meaning to write a new journal for ages, but I kept forgetting
So in a nutshell (Help! I'm in a nutshell!), I got a new job in the city (Brisbane). So far it's been pretty good! It's kept me busy but not in a way that's been stressful. So yay, employment.
Apologies for the huge lack of art recently, after moving into a new apartment I haven't yet re-found my art groove. Right now I'm visiting family for the weekend ("Christmas in July"! :P ), but I hope to get cracking on a new page of the Milk comic soon ;)
Speaking of art, I've got a backload of stuff that I've been hoarding until the Milk comic gets finished, so that might be a nice increase of new drawings for a while once that time comes :)

AKA Furries: the movie
Posted 10 years agoBecause it's what we're all thinking :P
It was amusing to hear the "Anthropomorphism 101" at the start there, like a mechanic leaning nonchalantly at a the garage entrance, listening to a very patient man carefully explaining a car to some poor soul who had never seen a piece of machined metal before in their life.
I was slightly disappointed to hear the qualifier of "mammals" though. What, did the anthropomorphism gun suddenly break down halfway through your zoo visit? There's some sort of scientific reason why the rest of the exhibits can't be mushed into clothing as well? A bug in a suit guys! A BUG IN A LITTLE BLACK BUSINESS SUIT, GUYS!
Oh, and yknow, reptiles 'n' birds 'n' fish 'n' stuff too, of course :V
If it's only going to be mammals I worry it'll feel like the cheese with mayo sandwich of movies.
Back to job hunting again…
Posted 10 years agoSo yeah… I quit my job today (well… yesterday, but whatever). I reluctantly agreed to stay on until the 15th due to contract whatevers. I think the legalese on it says they can just skip my last pay check without a week's notice or something, and I figure I'll need at least that long to break the lease and other headaches, so I just went with it.
Seeing as I only moved down here to the Gold Coast for this job, I'd prefer to just move back up to Brisbane again. Sure there's beaches and all that jazz, but when you're a) not a tourist, b) working all week, and c) an introvert, you don't really get to enjoy it. It feels like only tourists or rich folk live here. I'll probably move back to my parents' house for a short while, then see if my bro's offer to stay at his apartment in the city and do some job hunting is still open ;)
I'm in the mood for something much less soul-crushing than tedious, bland, business websites. At the very least, I don't think I want to be a web designer for small office companies ever again. Seriously, this is the second job I've ever had, and both have been doing web design for small offices. Let's just write them both off as "learning experiences". I'm determined to make sure that they stay the 1st and 2nd worst jobs I will ever have in my lifetime, respectively.

Art news; and also I ramble about Chappie for 3 paragraphs
Posted 10 years agoStill here, still drawing silly nonsense drawings of Kree ;)
I feel like I should be drawing more once-off drawings and doodles and stuff, but every time I get a nagging voice in my head saying "yeah, but you could be drawing more comic pages instead and get that nonsense finished quicker". I'm not sure if the stupid week/month long delays between pages really count as "quicker", but hey not everyone arts at the same speed…
So uhh.. other news I guess? Letsee… oh yeah!
Chappie was an awesome movie, :) I went back and saw it again before the stupid cinemas around here shuffled it out for more time-slots for boring stuff. I enjoyed District 9 heaps, and was entertained by Elysium in spite of its weak plot, and hell I'm usually sold on any movie with non-villainous robots in it :P Fist-bumpin' rooobots!
Still, critics can suck an egg, I like films that don't have to fit into an easily-described formula. I find I have more fun with a movie the less I read about them anyway, so I'm even less interested in reading movie reviews now, after the hate this movie got. I'm not even sure how to describe it? Two gangsters accidentally adopt and raise an adorable innocent AI born into a discarded robot shell.
I started out completely disinterested in the human characters (apart from the adorkable programmer :P ), but by the end of it I was rooting for them. People I would normally avoid like hell in real life. I only found out afterwards that they were indie rap artists essentially roleplaying their stage personas. That's probably one of the reasons why critics judged it harshly, but personally I think it just adds to the charm of Neill Blomkamp's unique style of filmmaking.
Okay wow, so I pretty much just rambled on about one movie there. Bonus prize for anyone who actually read this far: feel free to ask me whatever question you want, any new or old topic :V
Hey peeps
Posted 11 years agoso yeah, I've been settling in to my new job and apartment. Web development still isn't my favourite line of work to be in, but it's a pretty swanky office so there's plenty of shops near work.
But enough of boring human stuff. I kinda ended up in an unexpected art hiatus during the moving and stress/de-stressing. Hopefully I can get back into drawing more comics and stuff soon. Possibly during the holidays, although it's always a little tricky trying to draw furry art (or *gasp*, porn…) with family around. I love 'em, but not quite enough to show them all the weird stuff I tend to draw.
Also completely out of the blue I started watching the anime for Amagi Brilliant Park. It's pretty adorable, it's a theme park with magical faerie-furries on staff. Being the huge nerd that I am I enjoy all the park management minutia and business stuff, especially when most of the time there's usually a yellow dinosaur wearing a tie and glasses in the scene.
