Got a job (I think)
Posted 11 years agoSo, I think I've most probably got a job all of a sudden, on the Gold Coast. I start on Monday, even though I don't actually have a place to stay yet… :S
Just wanted to let peeps know why I've been even less active than usual for the past week. Stresssssssss D:

Vacation stuff; also I got Smash Bros 3DS!
Posted 11 years agoSo as I said last journal, I'm currently visiting some family down in Victoria. Mostly it's been a lot of visiting family and revisiting my parents' old hangouts (they used to live around here), which has been pretty pleasant so far. It's a lot colder down here compared to Queensland, though! :O
I've been attempting to get some more drawing done here and there, but it's awkward trying to get time alone to draw furry nonsense without the chance of someone suddenly popping into the room :V
Also, on a complete spur of the moment I bought a 3DS. I'd been borrowing my brother's for a while but I hadn't used it much because really it's his one. So I got this one so I can give him his back… well, that and so we can eventually play the new Smash Bros :P
It came with a free download of A Link Between Worlds, so hey it was like a $60 discount… kinda. It's fun! Like a sequel to Link to the Past. I also got Smash Bros while I was there, because Smash Bros :P
After much fumbling I found the friend code: 1521 5096 9610

So hey, I haven't journaled in a while. Wanna ask me stuff?
Posted 11 years agoI haven't made a new journal in a while, so why not make a new one!
Is there anything on your mind about me or my art stuff you'd like to chat about? New or old, just whatever subject at all you've been curious about. I've noticed I'm much less apprehensive about replying to comments if they have a question in them, because I'm not second-guessing myself about whether or not they want a response from me. I'm too introverted for my own good sometimes. I'm always looking back at comments on old art and wondering if I should have replied to them or not. So I thought it might be fun to solicit some questions directly :)
I'm still a bit all over the place about getting art drawn, but it's less art blocky than usual. Recently I've been focussing on trying to get more of this comic nonsense drawn, and also trying to figure out how to get a handle on drawing commissions for peeps. I'm spending too much time contemplating what I should do and not just doing art for art's sake. If I wasn't such a terribly awkward and shy introvert, I'd do an art stream or something… :O
Also as a quick real world update: My parents are planning a road trip down to Melbourne to visit family, so for most of October I'll be either on the road or at my aunt's house. I'll probably still try to do Internet Stuff and attempt drawing stuff regardless, but my activity might be different than usual without the comfort and privacy of my computer cave of 4 monitors :P

Commissions! Negotiable prices until I know what to charge
Posted 11 years agoSo I've been pondering over if I should try doing commissions, to see if I could possibly turn it into a full-blown career. That's the dream, isn't it? :P
But as I've done very little commissions in the past, I honestly don't know what I would charge, or more importantly what details I should be charging for. I don't quite know yet what details are easy and what ones would be a huge time sink. So I was thinking for an "introductory period" I could do this:
- Describe what you'd like commissioned, how detailed you'd like it to end up (colour, shading, etc.), and a pitch of how much you'd like to pay for it. Don't worry about offending me or whatever, just go for it.
- If I'm not sure I can do it for that price, I'll explain what details might take more time and effort, or if I might suck at drawing it :P
- We negotiate the details or price until we're both happy to get started on it.
- Once we're ready, I'll draw up a quick and dirty sketch and send it to you, to give you a rough idea.
- If you want to give further advice or tweaks at this point, go for it. If there's any big changes we can go back and renegotiate, and I'll change/redo the sketch.
- For whatever reason, you can back out here for free. My only caveat is I don't want those sketches floating about the Internet ;)
- After you've paid, I'll get to work on the line art/colouring/shading/etc we discussed earlier. If you're curious about WIP updates let me know and I'll send stuff whenever you want. If for some bizarre reason I can't finish it (which is hopefully never), I'll give you a full refund.
- I send you the finished drawing! :) If you want me to post it in my gallery let me know, otherwise by default I'll assume you'd prefer your privacy ;)
You can contact me via notes, email kreethebasilisk@gmail.com, or hey maybe even over Skype. Whatever way you'd like, really. Ohh! I almost forgot to mention I'm in Australia so AUD would be neat, but otherwise I'm fine with USD payments.
So, how about that? Doesn't sound too stupid?

I hate money and the things it entails...
Posted 11 years agoSo I've been kind of stressing out for a while now about being unemployed and all the (Australian) governmental red tape that are required to declare oneself as a job seeker. According to an email I only just now read I got cancelled, and with the way it's structured I'm not even sure if it was or wasn't my fault. It's a system designed under the assumption you're always trying to cheat the system, which is hard for my naive trusting personality to come to grips with.
I'm not entirely certain I even want to get a new job. I can do generic "tech support", and can wrangle some website design, but my two bachelor degrees of IT & Communication Design are just a fancy student loan debt for me right now. Even if I could find a job I'm suited for, would I be happy in it? From the way the job market looks in this rural town, I can either move back to Brisbane for the chance to apply for a big city job or apply to a local pizza store in town. A city job means the horrors of rental apartments again, and probably the same terrible hours and stress of my previous job as an exploited youth. I'm not one to turn up my nose at a pizza store job, but that would require getting driven there by my parents because I was naive enough to rely on public transport for most of my life in a country that apparently hates public transport. The idea that someone doesn't get a license, let alone not have a desire to drive a car is an alien concept here. Frankly, I question my ability to both operate a motor vehicle or assemble a pizza in a timely manner.
The idea of moving back in with your parents may seem corny, but this is the first time in years I've been able to relax and actually focus a bit on drawing stuff. I've actually got time now to do some exercise in the morning. We lost my grandmother not long before I was fired, so it's been helpful for both me and my parents' mental health to spend more time living together. I'm not sure I really want to care about money past just food and utilities, as long as I'm not stressed out all the time.
Would it even be possible for someone of my.. err.. "skills"... to be able to make money doing commissions? Is there enough of a market for it? There's already plenty of probably much more talented artists around who sound like they're short on customers. As romantic as the idea of turning a hobby into a lifestyle is, I'm uncertain how readily I could suddenly start being self-employed.

Oh dang, sorry about the lack of uploads
Posted 11 years agoOh dang, I just noticed how ridiculously out of date my recent uploads have been. Yikes... I knew I was a bit lax, but whole months? :O
I gotta stop playing Agrarian Skies all day long and get back into the swing of drawing. So uh... hopefully new art stuff... soon?

Just wondering, what kind of art do you browse or watch for?
Posted 11 years agoSo on occasion I have this slight paranoia that I've pigeonholed myself into a reputation for only certain kinds of drawings, and that I'll probably never be able to do anything "serious" or different because it'll just be ignored or dismissed as "Oh, it's just that guy who draws _____" or "WTF is this stuff that's not his usual _____ art".
It's not that I don't enjoy drawing silly or NSFW material, otherwise I wouldn't be posting it. I don't care all that much about viewer counts, I just upload stuff because I figure it might be entertaining for other people with similar interests. But I do often worry (probably too much) about the opposite happening where I'm wasting someone's time or excessively weirding them out with things way outside their ballpark.
For me, I like all sorts of things, so while I might browse certain categories or search tags for particular stuff, I also greatly enjoy the various art that shows up in my inbox. I often like to trawl through the gallery or favourites list of random users just to stay on the lookout for art I never knew I liked until I discovered it.
So I was curious, are there many other people out there who browse for a wide range of things, SFW or NSFW, or do most people just stick to one subset of themes they like to go after?

Back home again, and back to job seeking
Posted 11 years agoSo after getting most of my previously-mentioned unpleasantness out of the way, I've moved back in with my parents (temporarily, of course). Most of my useless junk is still in boxes, but I've got all my essential computer nonsense set up in a spare room.
So apart from... yknow... searching for a new job, I've probably got a bit of free time on my hands. I'll probably try and get all this half-finished art stuff from months ago finally finished. Maybe even try my hand at commissions again...?

Quick status update
Posted 11 years agoI haven't been very active lately because I've been preoccupied with moving apartments the past few weeks. It was supposed to be to move closer to my work (and as a side bonus, right next to Kings Beach in Caloundra), but I lost my job yesterday, so barely a week into my new lease I'm going to have to break the lease and move out again soon.
It's a completely sucky situation to be stuck in, but that job was also a big ball of stress, so on the bright side I don't have that ball and chain weighing me down anymore. From here on out, that job is no longer a part of my life. I can seek out a new (and hopefully better) career now.
The bad news (from the FA perspective) is that I've been without internet all this time, and my phone's data is already perilously close to the cap (around 75% of a 1.5 GB cap), so it's going to be mostly radio silence from me until I move back in with my awesome parents and mooch their internet.
I should be moved back home sometime next Wednesdayish, and I look forward to be back to relative normality then. See you then, folks! ;)

Still alive
Posted 11 years agoSo yeah, sorry about the sudden complete lack of uploads for the past… many many months D:
It may have been perhaps 10% because of the beta-release of Starbound, but that's not the main reason for my lack of uploads. Not to mention "cuz vidjagamez" would be a poor excuse anyway.
I got into a bit of an art block before Christmas, I kept saying "I'll have more time to draw during the holidays". Then during my holidays it was mostly just relaxing and enjoying time visiting my family. "I'll draw after the holidays". But then the art block kept going… bleh.
I have a few things drawn during all this time, but I'm also stupidly introverted and have had… uhh… really stupid hangups about uploading stuff after being absent so long. Which just makes things worse the longer it's gone on. It's stupid, I know. I'll try to start uploading this backlog soon, kay?

Not dead!
Posted 12 years agoSo hey, just wanted to update that I'm still here, just attempting to get some sequential comic stuff drawn before I post new art. So yeah, sorry about the radio silence
Fusions anyone? :P
Posted 12 years agoHexadoodle has been doing some adorable fusion commissions this past month: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4860331/
I've already gotten a bunch, and there's still 6 days left until the end of the month. Is anyone interested in doing some more of these with Kree?
I might possibly be able to front the cost of the commission(s) if I feel like it...
Edit: I forgot to mention that the fusions require a ref sheet, preferably a SFW one.

Suggestions?
Posted 12 years agoSo I feel like getting back into focusing on a particular theme or something to draw, but I have no idea what to pick.
Do you peeps have some suggestions for what you'd like to see more of?
Edit: Please try to suggest something specific, and something in my wheelhouse :V

My new tail :3
Posted 12 years agoThis was supposed to be just a quick photo with my phone to show off to a few peeps, but whatever, I might as well upload it! :P
I'm thinking I need some pants to wear over the top of them, although I'm not sure how to get dat tail hole properly tailored. I guess if I get desperate I can commission my mum... XD
(I bought it from here, btw)

Gotta get outta this rut...
Posted 12 years agoUgh... I had all sorts of various arts that I wanted to do, and I didn't get anything done this weekend.
I didn't even do a good job of slacking off. I spent the last two days sucking at both art and being a lazy bastard. The amount of relaxing I did feels like it was in the negative.
It's such a frustrating feeling, sitting here filled with all these artist ideas floating around in my head, but my lazy bastard self just sits here uselessly and procrastinates inefficiently until the day goes away... :(

So hey
Posted 13 years agoJust a quick update to say, I've been sort-of-kinda-busy with getting ready to move to a new apartment. Away from the city but closer to work, so I'll have less of a ridiculous commute and more hours for both free time (yay) and work (boo.. yay money?). It's times like these I wish that I didn't have so much crap that needs to be put into boxes...
Also, feel free to make a suggestion for something for me to draw (later, after the move. possibly much later...), which I may or may not use depending on how my artistic muse is feeling at the time!

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck....
Posted 13 years agoI've managed to lose my art mojo somehow. I had hoped getting my nice new Intuos would help boost me back up again, but seeing it sitting there on my desk unused just rubs salt into the wound.
I feel stuck in a rut, staying up late trying to get motivated and then feeling like crap the next morning, rinse and repeat, slight variation on weekends. Even slacking off and playing videogames just doesn't refresh me enough as drawing used to.
And to top it all off my wrist is sore from computer use (both work and at home), which means I need to lay off the computer at home even more than usual. Hell, I probably have shit ergonomics or something.
Sorry to make such a depressing journal, just wanted to let everyone know I'm not dead or ill or whatever.

Doodle-a-day
Posted 13 years agoI was thinking I should perhaps maybe sorta get into the habit of drawing and uploading something every day, even if it's just a sketch. Gotta get my drawing muscle back into shape. Or something.
Intuos 5! :D
Posted 13 years agoSo this fancy-pants new Intuos 5 (medium, touch) I ordered arrived this week! :D
It's all fancy and new compared to my old Graphire 3, so I've been fumbling my way though attempting to re-learn to draw with it. It's different! For instance, the default "grip pen" is shaped a lot different to the old one (which they remade into a separate "classic pen"). I can't tell if I'm just a luddite stuck in my classic-pen ways, or I just need to get used to a new pen. Has anyone else tried the difference between a grip pen and the "classic" style? And of course the 2048 levels of pressure (compared to the Graphire 3's 1024) on the pressure threw me for a bit, before I recalibrated my brushes. I had no idea how much I'd "grown into" that old tablet o' mine!
Also, after the unhappy cable-shenanigans I had with my first tablet, I ordered the Wireless Kit along with it, only to discover that it comes with a removable cable that's pretty long anyway... so.. yeeaaaahh. I guess it'll be great for when I take it other places, but I also discovered it's slightly too large to shove into my compact Incase backpack ( also I'm paranoid about breaking my expensive new toy :V )

I need a new image editor :I
Posted 13 years agoopenCanvas has brushes that I've gotten accustomed to, and the network drawing feature is still bizarrely unique in the drawing world. But it's oooooooold. And constantly feels like a half-baked beta version (which.. I think it technically is?)
Photoshop has all the editing pizazz (MAAAAAASKS! WOOO!), but I hate their brushes. Maybe it's just me, but they feel so big and smudgy compared to oC. They've got all those little options but I hardly touch any of them (apart from size, opacity, flow, etc) because they just make the brush shape go fugly.
I've even tried Artrage, but while all those simulation brushes look like... yknow.. oil and stuff, I can't for the life of me figure out how to make drawings that don't look like preschool scribbles.
I've found a few apps on Mac that are kind of interesting but still kinda weird and quirky to edit in compared to Photoshop's layers and masks and stuff. Most of my artz at the moment are done on my home PC, which for the moment is still windows.

Heys y'all
Posted 13 years agoBleh, so the past week has been nothings-ville, partially because of a stupid rent inspection that took us the last 2 weekends to properly clean up for, only to have them cancel it at the last moment (boo!).
The other reason I've been silent is because last week I only just found out that Fez got released! (yaaay!) FEZ! Flippity-2D-3D-perspective-puzzle-plaftormer! It's super fun! Although I have a worrisome suspicion that I've managed to break my save file after almost 100%-ing the game (boo!)
Hopefully I'll be getting back onto the art horse again (yay!), and try not to get too heavily distracted by Fez/Dungeon Defenders/Terraria/Minecraft... (boo..aay? boourns!)

Art progress update!
Posted 13 years agoSo I've got a big bunch of various oC sessions with peeps that need various amounts of cropping/PNG-ifying, and some that would probably look good uploaded now but deserve some extra colouring and such before I wanna upload them.
So much to do, but I seem to have no spare time at all these days >.< Especially since I'm about to visit my parents for the 4-day Easter weekend, which theoretically gives me plenty of free time to draw, but I often underestimate the value of a good solid desk and a place where there's nobody sitting behind me to instill drawing-stagefright. Half of the house is one big kitchen/dining room/living room. It's a pickle. I'll bring the good ol' Wacom with me and try my best to get everything finished ASAP, but no guarentees :V
With all these delays I've had/will have, I'm also going to go ahead and "end" that experiment dealie early, with the consolation prize that I'll keep it going for a while longer but as a "side story"-type dealie. I'll draw more of it, but non-exclusively. You watch sci-fi about time travel, right? (You really should!) Just think of it as another point in time that I'll be occasionally be (metaphorically) jumping in to visit, etc ;)
