Survey of Mild Controversy
Posted 15 years ago[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
PROBABLY!
[02] Would you do Meth if it was legalized?
Nope, why would you do Meth anyway? Do bullet in the head, best drug ever.
[03] Abortion: for or against it?
For it. Medical complications, rape, failed birth control, so on. I don't of course think abortions should replace safe sex but there are any army of reasons why abortions should be allowed.
[04] Do you think a country would fail with a female president?
Women have served in higher forms of authority like singular monarchs I don't see why presidency would be beyond a woman's ability.
[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?
I've waffled on this issue a lot but ultimately no, people should not be put to death in a system of correction even if they are beyond resocialization. There's no valid reason for a standardized execution system in a civilized legal system for all but the most extreme and rare circumstances. It's not that I am against the idea of a person killing for self defense, I am against the idea of executing an already defeated individual.
[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
Yes. It's not an awful drug, no more so than cigarettes and alcohol. Also because I'm honestly getting really tired of everyone talking about it. Besides everyone knows all the cool kids do the hip and cool bullet in the head drug, you're just a pretender if you're doing pot >=|
[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?
The issue of premarital sex is a religious rule. Marriage is not a religious union, therefore not an issue.
[08] Do you believe in God?
I do not, not because I *believe* there is no god but because there is no evidence that suggests there is one in any sense. God is not real in a scientific sense since God can not be measured, observed or detected. Basically if we could analyze God in the same way we could analyze a microbe, a carbon atom or a burrito I would believe God is real. But since we can't I have to say this burrito is not only more real than god, it also has more power than god!
[09] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Of course and I don't mean that European limp wrist Civil Union stuff, I want full on buttfucking Same Sex Marriage.
[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
It's a problem and while I have no actual issue with people immigrating illegally I do have an issue with them staying illegal while within the United States. They need to once within this nation attempt to legalize themselves otherwise they become a legal and economical burden to this nation.
[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
No. She is unfit to be a mother and the process will damage both her and the child forever.
[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
Yes. I know why they did it because Teenage drivers are the most dangerous drivers but it seems like the solution is to make drunk driving a heavier crime rather than upping the age limit. You're 18 can vote and run for power in our mighty republic but OH FUCK BEER YOU'RE SO OUT OF THIS MIGHTY REPUBLIC.
[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?
No simple gesture or answer can be given on this. I would like the war to be called off the instant we felt we had the desire to leave but what I want is purely pertaining to me and my country. What *I* want is not always what is best for the world. The US's continued presence while not necessarily needed in a military sense is necessary for the region's continued stability. We're still in South Korea, Kosovo and Kuwait after all.
[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
It goes against a doctor's Hippocratic oath: Do no harm, so I do not believe it should be done in the whole Kevorkian-esque way. Assisted suicide is a tough call because it opens up so many legal loop holes. I think this: if you want to end yourself you can consent to your own demise to be carried out with the same legal clout and presence a prison execution does. Meaning you have to be psychologically evaluated, go through all the legal motions and finally have you anonymously executed. The Terminally-ill however should be allowed to end themselves if it is completely fruitless and do nothing but stave off death for a few painful and short moments.
[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?
Not really, I don't think the single act of spanking fucks up a child but I can see it spiraling out of control quickly. A good parent needs to know the difference between actual discipline and just wailing on their kid. Even drill sergeants know the difference.
[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
Sure I'd burn the Canadian flag. As for the US one I'd burn it for a million, hell I've retired US flags and I didn't get payed a million for that!
[17] Who do you think would have made a better president? McCain or Obama?
Well me of course but since I didn't get a huge voter turnout: Obama.
[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
No one posts here =(

I SAID COME IN DON'T STAND THERE.
Posted 15 years agoBeen on a bit of a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. bender lately and I was trying to find the original material (Like how the Fallout trilogy finds its origins in a Boy & His Dog) which is the film Stalker and the book Roadside picnic.
Then I find out no walk in bookstore carries Roadside picnic. None at all, not Walden, Borders or even Barnes & Nobles. At first I just thought "Well Call of Pripyat came out people probably ate up all the few copies they had" but they don't carry it at all, they never did, not even on their online stores.
So I know it's on Amazon and I check it and they're all 100+ dollars, the only slightly cheaper ones are from private and 3rd party sellers. That's highly unusual, in fact it's extremely strange (almost ironically fitting too considering the setting).
And just now I checked if Wikipedia had any explanation as to why the book is so hideously expensive even with multiple reprints and I find that you can download a PDF of the novel for free. This is great but I'd still would've loved to had a physical copy and I'm still left wondering: Why is Roadside Picnic so damn expensive?! Does anyone have any idea at all?

So I Finally Saw Avatar.
Posted 15 years agoLate to the party but Spear Wolf and I watched it with Rifftrax and really I didn't think much of the film. There were several small annoyances but nothing small that would collectively make me think poorly of the film in a significant way. No what got me was something Spear Wolf pointed out is is neither side is likable.
The humans are of course the villains because they're evil and want to displace the aliens for resources but apparently not evil enough to just bomb them into submission. The Aliens on the other hand live an ideal life wherein their nature is sentient and cares for them and they're allowed to mentally enslave their wildlife so apparently developing simple machines is unnecessary for them.
On another level I also feel insulted by the film. Not for the whole "White man guilt" thing but for the fact it feels like the message is that life rewards the spiritual over the skeptic and the curious. In the early part of the film for example the aliens do not regard the human scientists well and heavily chastise their research and curiosity. There are other instances such rather than attempting to heal one of the scientists they just try to transfer her mind, granted this could be for the sake of moving the plot.
It just really kills the movie for me and while I'm not saying the humans are the good guys in this but they're almost comically so evil in this that it seems cartoonish. In another later scene we're already aware the humans are aggressively mining the planet and then we're given the quip of "AND THEY EVEN HURT THEIR OWN EARF". The humans in this seem so extremely, well, inhuman. I'm not saying they have to be portrayed like Star Trek's federation but they're like a race of Duke Nukems "GOTTA RIP EM A NEW ONE". The Aliens aren't that much better and while they're made up creatures we're led to believe they at least have similar intellect to humans. And from mentions early in the film the aliens are openly hostile to the human arrival be it for resources or scientific matters, they apparently do not care. So with this the counter to the Aliens is that technology and the desire to learn is a path of evil and death, after all only 5 humans were good guys.
Perhaps I am reading to far into this but I can't help but feel that it was trying to tell an old story of good versus evil and intelligence was the villain with spirituality the hero.

On the subject of Videogame Soundtracks
Posted 16 years agoNow I don't mean iconic I mean ones that are more than just catchy and have a beat, I mean ones you would actively seek out to put upon a disc and listen to. Not remixes, just the game music in its purest of quality.
Now I am by no means an authority I'm just picking out game soundtracks that I feel stand out extraordinarily well. Yes, I'm that bored.
So let's start out strong with a personal favorite- Total Annihilation. It's a shame Supreme Commander's music is so forgettable.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CBTZqO83WQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gajD7rrp3s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_SvjZElgno
Baldur's Gate 2 is up and while I know many will ask "What about Torment?" I'd say while Torment is easily superior to BG2, its music though was much more low key save for the iconic main theme. So here are some personal Baldur's Gate 2 favorites, long live the God of Murder!:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U88zyFLzIXQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lB7T6Kd9cYg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCXMXflff8s
Now the next is honestly quite difficult to pick only 3 or 4 out of the whole bunch so he's the one I best think represents all of Arcanum's music. The string work in the whole thing is almost unimaginably good.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftvpi-6Z6qw
Now you can't go 10 steps on "Magnificent video game soundtracks and not mention MechWarrior 2, it's like martial law or something.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqaHy5xRUDY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-XoZg5kQ8s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RB0oxICsbOI
Can't go too far without mentioning Homeworld...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNKmgSvTewQ (note: this is a vocal of Adagio for Strings)

Guild Wars has an excellent soundtrack but that's to be expected when apparently ever member of the design team is some kind of mega artist. No wonder they have such balance issues with their girly artsy hands.
