Hello all — A quick update for current and future commissioners —
As you may have noticed, I have been very quiet and not producing any work recently. Partly good news, my newish (freelance) day-job has exploded and I'm working 15-16 hour days pretty much 6-7 days a week which doesn't leave me much time for, well, anything really. The bad news is, I have also been in family crisis mode for months now taking care of a critical care family member with intense mental health woes. I have not had the fortitude to create much of anything lately and I've been pretty quiet.
Please note that I will continue working through commissions as quickly as possible as time allows, though I am taking far longer than I'd like.
If any current commissioners in my queue are interested in a refund of their down-payment, you are certainly entitled and welcome to ask. Please let me know via DM, and absolutely no hard feelings. Otherwise I will keep pushing on to each piece as soon as possible.
I am not taking new commissions at this time. Watch this space for updates.

CHECKING IN! ...A note for Commissioners!

Just a quick update to excuse my long silence — many apologies for this recent delay in returning commissions to those who have paid/requested work from me. I'm working through my backlog and I owe work to a number of people, and I am working through these pieces as quickly as I can. I would rather give you great quality slower than crap-quality faster.
In short, Michigan has been hit with a number of heavy storms that have: Flooded my house 3 times, interrupted our power several times, burst my sewage main, and felled a number of trees in my yard hitting my car. As I've been dealing with this, the power problem has also fried both of my work computers (and other appliances) so I've been slowly getting back on my feet — hence the long silences. Again, many apologies for the drop in communication.
Additionally, I don't know if Trello (my main work organizing website) has gone offline, but I can no longer access it so that's also been a delightful problem. I *DO* have all records, though, so no commissions have been lost or forgotten (that I know of).
As of now, my full list of furry commissions is (in no particular order):

Posted 5 years ago2020 has indeed been a cruel year, for most of us. And while we wish upon the dropping ball of New Year's cleansing magic, the sky-high potential of what could-yet-be in 2021 remains the single greatest hope for an anxious nation.
There will be many sentiments written tonight in socially distanced Discord chats or uttered aloud at smaller-than-last-year's family/friend gatherings across the world expressing our collective disgust with a horrid 2020. "Good riddance" we will say with a heaping of humor and a heavy pour of rage. "Burn it all down" we will mock, toasting our digital cocktails via cold high-bandwidth. And we will mean it, in the moment, as we have more or less meant it all year long as we individually suffer another loss after another loss.
It's hard to ignore the losses. It's hard to stand back up just once after a crushing blow, let alone over and over again. I have been knocked down a lot this year. I have lost a great, great deal, though only in the superficial ways. I have not lost family, as many have, or friends. I had lost my health but I've found it again ... Outcomes far kinder than those suffered by millions more. I have lost only stuff, not people, and I have retained a lot as well — and even gained.
You, for example.
Tonight, it is commandingly important to me – imperiously important – that you understand on an atomic level just how precious you are to me.
I have not met you, save a shameful few, or spoken with you at any real length. I don't know your real name, or your birthday. I don't know your age, your race, your gender or your pronouns, or if you even care about any of that. I don't know if you're happy, or if you're alone, or if you're in pain. I hope not. I don't even know what country you live in. My knowledge of you can be summized by your bio on FurAffinity, which is all too true of me to you. We are strangers, the lot of us... will-o'-wisps in a digital forest. And yet, while I do not know you in any real way, you were there when I needed you.
You're always there.
The fandom, the artists, the followers, the commissioners, yes. All of that, but more than that — you the person, ... or you the furry if you prefer.
Though it may sound narrowly materialistic to admit that your comments, your faves, your occassional pokes on Telegram, and your commissions (THANK YOU so much for your commissions) are what have sustained me, you must realize it is so much deeper than that. Your comments and faves have lifted my spirits and your commissions have helped pay my bills, but that is just the beginning of what your community has healed of me, and I cannot thank you enough.
But when I've been dealt yet another blow and suffered yet another setback, it is this wonderful fandom that lifts me up. This strange, weird, passionate fandom.
So rather than hoping to burn down all that came with 2020, instead I raise my digital cocktail and I nod my toast to you, my fellow furries, my followers, my muses, my icons. My mysterious friends.
May your future days be bright, and your woes resolve. May your happiness expand, and your cup overflow. May you remain forever weird, and forever wonderful.

👋 STATUS UPDATE 👋 Commissions and Covid

It's time for another quick status update to report that I am closing in on completing most of the outstanding commissions that you amazing, wonderful, outstanding furballs have ordered of me, and I cannot thank you all nearly enough for the work!
The last handful are mostly multi-stage transformations, which take a lot longer than a standard single-scene piece, so thank you again for your patience!

Also, complicating life right now is that I tested positive for covid-19 this week. After 9 months of diligent mask-wearing and stay-at-home quarantining, my spouse and I contracted the disease anyway. Why? Because my spouse is required to teach in-person at her school — a school where the priest in charge thinks covid is a hoax and does not enforce mask rules and thus the students do not take it seriously either.
So far, it's been like the flu except I've lost 100% of my sense of smell AND taste which is very frightening. I'm eating like one meal a day. I've also had intense vertigo and some trouble breathing, so every couple of hours I have to lay down because the world won't stop spinning and I get nauseuos. Wheeee. I guess we'll see what happens next.

FIRST OFF: MANY, MANY THANK YOU's to everyone who has commissioned me in these recent weeks. Your kindness and trust in me has helped to bridge an extremely difficult time for me and my family. As I mentioned, I was laid-off very suddenly in January (after 15 years of service), just before Covid destroyed the job market, and I've been completely out of work since then. I've sent out over 268 résumés since January 10, and I've received zero calls back. I'm not exaggerating.
SO.
The commissions and work that you, my fellow Furries, have granted me has literally been the saving grace in my life and it proves once again that this fandom is the most amazing group of people on Planet Earth, and I am so very blessed to be among you. And while furry commissions are a looooooooong way away from what I used to make at my 9-to-5 job, they're a wonderful gift nonetheless.
THANK YOU.
To commissioners waiting on work that you've paid for, please keep an eye on my Trello Account. I keep this list up-to-date daily, and it represents my TOTAL workflow, including Agency and non-furry work (so that you're not left guessing).
I am down to my last large handful of commissions, and I expect to be wrapping virtually all of them up this month (give or take some of the larger ones). I've been slowed down by the large number of multi-stage transformations that you wonderful, wonderful people have requested, so I'm catching up.
BUT AS ALWAYS — if you have questions or concerns about ANYTHING, please feel free to reach out to me — I DO NOT EVER GET ANNOYED when people ask questions. Following my lay-off from my full-time career in January, I have transitioned into working from home full-time which means my commissions must carry more weight in paying bills. I will also be opening a Patreon for interested people. Details to come!

I am working away on all of the recent commissions that have come in, and again, THANK YOU to all who have requested work!
I am house-bound for the duration of the coronavirus outbreak as it affects us all, so I will be aiming to complete all work by month's end. Unfortunately, I have not yet found full-time work of any kind, so I am fully-reliant on commissions right now.
I will be opening for a new wave of commissions in the next few days (technically I never close), so if you're interested, I certainly am!

I've been laid off.
After 15 years with the same company, they cut me off at lunchtime on January 9th citing "changes of direction" which is a business' way of saying, "it's not you it's me". Of course, now I'm out hunting and I've sent out over 100 résumés (Seriously. 102 to be exact) into the endless chasm of utter silence, and money has waned.
With a wife and 2 kids to feed (*guilt guilt guilt*), I'm looking to regrow commissions and any freelance I can get my hands on. I always hate when people use the sob-story approach to securing work, so please know I am doing this begrudgingly. I've been avoiding it for a few months but I'm at that point now.
I'm open to most things, and I'm interested in large and small tasks.

Today I have launched my Patreon Account which, I suppose, was only a matter of time. BUT — to all who know me, I detest the pay-wall concept of blocking content for money, especially when it was work that was once posted for free. Moreover, I am a patient person, and I have no problem waiting 1, 2, 3 months for artwork/stories/updates so the concept of delaying doesn't help the artist in any way, in my opinion. Above all, though, as a supporter of the arts, I really hate blocking people from learning or sharing.
However, like many artists, I also feel pretty left out in the cold when it comes to looking for recognition and/or earning a little cash for their blood, sweat and tears (oh, the tears. So many tears).
SO!
I will not hide my work behind a paywall. I will not hide work for weeks or block people altogether. Instead, I would like to use the Patreon experience as a mutually beneficial experience. I'll provide the work upfront. If you would like to chip in a little cash, I'll provide a little more content to sweeten the pot. You've already got the cake, now I'll provide the cherries.
Maybe this idea sucks. Maybe it's only going to bite me in the butt. But I'd like to find a way to put my work out there where I feel like it's doing something more.
Tier offerings, their values, and schedules are flexible as I am still feeling out the market for this stuff. But your thoughts are welcome and I'd love to know what you think, good or bad!

I've always believed that good work should stand on its own merits, and I really enjoy the idea behind Patreon, but I just don't think I have enough fans (i.e. any fans) willing to contribute money on an ongoing basis. So instead, I feel that a tip-based service like Ko-fi may be more my speed for the occasional patron.
If you are interested in supporting what I do, or the work I make, I would absolutely love and appreciate any contribution you'd be willing to make. Believe me, I know that money is tight. I'm not sure how this will go if I'm being honest. I've been super-skeptical of crowd-funding, especially with all the other competitors in the market offering their fancy widgets and styles, but I guess I'll never know unless I try.

I will be treating this channel as a living 'sketchbook' for you to explore at your own recreation.
How is this different than FA? Glad you asked!
Similar to what other artists do and charge money for via Patreon, I'll be giving away preliminary sketches, thumbnail artwork, color comps and final illustrations. For select illustrations (that are NOT commissions*) I will also upload my layered PSD files for the art-curious. Occasionally I will give away other little treats, like experimental artwork, voice recordings or written stories.
At some point in the future if I see that this service is being abused, I will likely pull the program and move toward something more fee-based, like Patreon. For now, I feel that the world is saturated in patron-services, and I do not feel that my work merits such a service at this time.
I WILL continue to upload artwork here. However I reserve my galleries for completed pieces only.

In Memoriam: Dogbomb
Posted 6 years agoMay we all find the strength to face our lives the way Dogbomb found in facing his fate.
I cried as hard for Tony's passing this weekend as I had for my own father's, and although I never physically met Tony, his words touched me on a spiritual level reserved only for close family. His strength surpasses anything I could accomplish, and I know that. He has shown us what it means to be graceful. What is means to be kind. What it means to be aware.
I wept for hours as his final Twitter messages appeared in my feed. I read them again the next day, and wept again.
I do not know Tony outside of Twitter. Facebook. FurAffinity — I do not know how scared he really was or wasn't. How alone he really was or wasn't. Or how angry he really was or wasn't. But in this age of reckless and wanton anger, he has shown us — shown me — what it looks like to be a man. To be a good person. That was my father's role for decades, until he passed. And I have undoubtedly strayed from his path. I owe Tony — I owe Dogbomb — an enormous debt I can never repay.
His final gift to me has been a brilliant white light, cracked into the walls of my psyche, and with it I have seen the edges of my mind with absolute clarity.
I know where my demons sleep. They will awaken again, as they always do. But from here I move forward with a secret weapon — I move forward with Tony forever in my heart; I move forward with a Dogbomb.

Posted 6 years agoI just want to offer up my sincere appreciation and 'thank yous' to everyone who has offered their opinions and assistance to me these past few months.
I know I've been excessively melodramatic lately. I really don't know why. But every so often I get these rare glimpses of myself through someone else's predicament and realize that in the grand scheme of things, everything is all good. I think in part there's just a lot of negative energy out here, and it gets infectious. Time to innoculate.
I can't promise I won't freak out again — and I really will try not to — but then again, isn't that what artists do best? ... over-react and emote hyperbolically?

Posted 6 years agoI remember — in a not too distant past — folks used to actually comment on stuff they saw online.
I used to get whole pages of simple and profound comments on even the barest of sketches. But now it seems that luxury has evaporated.
Now, I know some creators here are drowning in feedback — certain erotic artists come to mind — so perhaps this is just another sign that the works I produce are not comment-worthy. There is always that reality. But I am not alone in my complaints about this deafening silence coming from a once boisterous community. I see many artworks online that clearly took days of hard work to create and I am shocked to see hardly any commentary on it.
I've heard people say it's an FA thing.
It's not.
I have this same problem on every network from Twitter to ArtStation, Weasyl to DeviantArt.
The void yawns.
I miss hearing people's reactions, critiques, thoughts, requests and suggestions. I miss talking with people about art; even the silly crap.
I know that some folks here on FA and elsewhere have drawn the line in the sand about people 'bothering' them with comments and 'thank-yous' (for watches and faves, etc), but I am not among them as I find the point of view in itself inane. For whatever it's worth, I relish communication with others. I am a raging introvert IRL and I really stay away from most people — but I've always loved this fandom specifically BECAUSE the folks here are 'like me'. I WANT to talk to folks here! I'll be damned if I've come to the world of furry in order to escape real life only to escape furry for ... what ... total isolation? Why even bother with anything at that point?
C'mon, people! Speak up! ... It doesn't have to be on MY artwork (although clearly, *yes please*), but talk to your favorite artists and writers! — ESPECIALLY the writers! The authors of this world are dying for some love. Instead of just downloading an image or story and then disappearing into the night, how about leaving a comment as you flee? Holy crap, people, even an emoji at this point would be a step in the right direction!

I know that some folks here on FA and elsewhere have drawn the line in the sand about people 'bothering' them with comments and 'thank-yous' (for watches and faves, etc), but I am not among them as I find the point of view in itself inane. For whatever it's worth, I relish communication with others. I am a raging introvert IRL and I really stay away from most people — but I've always loved this fandom specifically BECAUSE the folks here are 'like me'. I WANT to talk to folks here! I'll be damned if I've come to the world of furry in order to escape real life only to escape furry for ... what ... total isolation? Why even bother with anything at that point?
C'mon, people! Speak up! ... It doesn't have to be on MY artwork (although clearly, *yes please*), but talk to your favorite artists and writers! — ESPECIALLY the writers! The authors of this world are dying for some love. Instead of just downloading an image or story and then disappearing into the night, how about leaving a comment as you flee? Holy crap, people, even an emoji at this point would be a step in the right direction!

Do I Separate Accounts?
Posted 7 years agoI've always been a believer that it makes more sense to keep all momentum rolling in the same direction when it comes to creators promoting themselves, but maybe I'm wrong.
It's been pointed out to me by more than one person that my FA account is "too varied", and has too many different types of work on it, which puts people off. First, is that true? Lemme know. I'm interested — especially since that runs counter to what I was taught [years ago], but it's good information. I always felt that showing an interest in multiple subject matters/styles was a good thing, but this may not apply anymore. Maybe singularity is preferred.
But I'm also considering breaking my account up into at least one other. This account would remain the AD account, and the new account would be for "serious" work, like my novel and related works.
... I fully suspect that account will receive very few followers, but it would make things more consistent, I guess. Thoughts?
