Furpocalypse Convention Meme (+Open for Commissions?)
General | Posted 11 years agoFur Fright may be gone but like a zombified hand from the grave, Furpocalypse rises: https://www.furpocalypse.org/
What table are you at?
No clue, but I should be in the Dealer's Dungeon, sharing it with MaxBlackrabbit (EDIT: Max couldn't make it so trying to see if the space next to me can be given to
Keedot, who is also nifty, go look if you haven't already). : )
What should I call you?
I respond positively to 'Kev'.
Age?
33
What do you look like?
5'3", dark brown hair (usually in a bun or braid), pale, vaguely asian, chubby, dressed in my Halloween Costume; A Professional, Sober, Mature Adult.
Where/how can I find you?
Pretty much gunna be spending the bulk of the convention at the dealer's table, though I hear there may be a beer run at some point. :3
Do you smoke?
Nope.
Which days will you be attending?
All of them, but heading out Sunday Evening.
Do you do requests?
Probably not.
Do you do trades?
I'd say yes but you may not see your sketchbook for at least a year or two..
Do you do commissions?
That's what I'll be offering at my table, as well as some of the usual merch; if you've considered purchasing my merchandise but haven't gotten around to it, this'll be the year to do it!: )
(My portfolio will be discounted!)
Any specific plans for the con?
Meet you guys, draw some art, make some money, attempt to not get/give con crud, hunt for some Blood Moon if plans come together.
Can I talk to you?
Sure! I may have to keep working but I'll be listening.
Can I take pictures with you?
Why would you do that to your camera/phone? :c
Can I touch/hug/cuddle you?
Shaking hands is fine, I'm not much of a hugger. (Do not be fooled by any hugging you may see me doing, it was likely just swamp gas).
Can I hang out with you?
Sure thing, if there's a Zoo or Zoo-like public area and I'm about, say hello. : )
Do you go to parties?
Paaah-teeeee?
What is the best way to reach you?
Y'know what, if I can get my new phone working properly, you'll be able to contact me through Twitter where-ever I find internet access: @TheBovinian I might even remember to tweet things!
I was going to open for some pick-up commissions, but with the DDoS attacks being what they are I'm not... entirely sure if that will work out. BUT, if you are interested and will be attending Furpocalypse, feel free to Comment or Private Message me and if we're lucky we'll be able to sort things out!
(Sketch or Ink commissions only)

Wanna strut your stuff by contributing to a fun little collaborative writing experiment/project? Here's your chance!
The rules are simple and the goal is...*checks thesaurus*... enterprising?
Yup, writing's not for me, gunna stick to reading and drawing.
BUT ANYWAY. My buddy
Nyil is doing a thing.
Check out the link and see what's been written so far, add something if you find yourself inspired; I think this might get magical. :X

Renamon YCH Reminder!
General | Posted 11 years agoEver wanted a Succubus Renamon? (I lovingly dub her Demamon)

Bidding is tiered, so the higher the bids the more finished the picture gets. Bid high enough and a follow-up image can be commissioned!
Just a little reminder in case anyone missed the initial upload. Will likely upload another advert for it tomorrow.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14550726/ Auction ends 5pm EST, 27th September 2014.
Also the Blend-It commission slot continues to be unclaimed, and I still have ONE more single character commission slot open (advertised as Ink commissions but if someone wants to get a colour commission we can discuss prices).

Da Rules:
1) If the character(s) you choose belong to someone else in this fandom or another fandom, please have their owner send me verification that you have permission from them to use their character(s).
2) If existing combinations exist DO NOT show me, this is meant to be a whole new creation. So you might want to pick a pair of characters that have never been combined, since I know other artists have done this kind of thing before.
3) The customer may dictate the preferred sex/gender of the outcome, and whether they want it to be Sexy or SFW.
Unless otherwise dictated, the blended character will be drawn as a fully formed adult. If the intent is for the combination to be a young child of the two, please include the rough age you wish for me to depict - nudity is not an option if the intended age is below 18.
4) The paying customer owns the character! So think carefully if you and a friend are going into this together! I may come up with a "Fusion" name for the combination but you are well within your right to change it in future depictions. You can even gift the result to a friend.
5) While I may draw the character with a particular attitude/demeanour/expression, the personality is for that picture only; if the owner wishes the character to display a different personality in RPs, Stories or whatever, that's up to them!: )

I was the Racist all along? (PART 2)
General | Posted 11 years agoPART 1 (link) explains the scenario that led me to make this journal and give it the title it has.
To those who have managed to read part 1, Thank You, and I am sorry that I will likely repeat myself a few times below, but I know some people have limited time and won't be able to read both parts; some points are worth repeating.
Now, I think we can all agree that Discrimination is undesirable, yet continues to be a part of every day life for many people, and can come in a variety of flavours; ranging from Unintentional to Deadly.
The overt, violent and volatile side of Discrimination is what a lot of people focus on; because, well, it's EASY to spot.
It's easy to highlight "Hating someone because of their sexuality is bad." or "Oppressing people because of their skin colour is wrong." or "Dismissing someone's agency or opinions because of their gender isn't fair."
Overtones are easy to point out. It's the Undertones that that most people don't catch, even within themselves.
I am not guilt-free of Undertones. I was raised with the Notions of "Dress a certain way so you don't get taken advantage of." and "Act a certain way to avoid mistreatment." and "This kind of person is asking for trouble."
I was raised to believe anything bad that happened to me was MY fault. That BECAUSE I somehow wasn't GOOD ENOUGH that would make someone have a problem with me. That, because I received a negative response to BEING, I wasn't TRYING hard enough to avoid it.
Many of us were raised with Notions of what is right and good and acceptable, and for some of us, they are problematic from day one, and for others these Notions BECOME problematic later in life.
These Notions help us identify, reward or acknowledge other people who express similar notions, but can sometimes lead folks to demonise those who don't.
Growing up, living, EXISTING to believe that some people deserve to be given a hard time because they don't line up with YOUR Notions doesn't instantly make you a hateful bigot, everyone is ignorant at some point in their lives; it is the refusal to reflect on what you've been raised to think and insisting that some people DO deserve to be treated differently (paid more, paid less, verbally or physically abused, ignored, lauded and dismissed) based on beliefs, ethnicity or sex, etc that can give people that impression.
Growing up, living, EXISTING to believe that people are going to have a problem with you regardless of what you do is an awful state of BEING. And when you speak up against the mistreatment, you're accused of being ungrateful, over-reacting, imagining things, greedy or just plain wrong.
But THANK GOODNESS for some of those who HAVE spoken up in the past. Because of them, Equality EXISTS, and is more prevelent than it was 50 years ago. The scales are still unbalanced, more in some places than others, but I do believe things are better, and CAN get EVEN better. But it's not going to get better if people don't continue to take steps towards these changes.
Discrimination does not have to present itself as Violence or Hatred or even Genetic Superiority to be what it is.
Sometimes it presents itself as casual dismissiveness, ala "Oh you're just getting upset because you're a *insert race, sexuality, gender, etc*"
Sometimes it presents itself through generalisation, ala "Ugh all *insert race, sexuality, gender, etc* are so *negative stereotype/experience*."
A general lack of empathy can also be a bit contributing factor but I realise that the ability empathise varies from person to person.
And I realise mistreatment doesn't HAVE to stem from who or what you are, sometimes people are assholes, sometimes someone is just having a bad day, sometimes people are just unhappy and are taking it out on everyone around them.
I disagree with the idea that a person should EXPECT to be treated poorly based on aesthetics; whether that is based on what they are wearing or their physical appearance. I can accept that judgement happens, I can accept people come from a variety of life experiences that shape their thoughts and reactions.
It is one thing to judge and react, but if your reaction causes someone grievous bodily harm or death, perhaps it should be acknowledged that this was a very disproportionate response. (Obviously, there are contexts to this, if I caught someone actively hacking the legs off of a living, protesting human or animal, with an axe, I'm going to react very strongly to what they're doing, regardless of what they look like or what they're wearing - I'm not gunna believe they're an EMT without evidence of a SHITTON OF GAUZE/GAUZE SUBSTITUTE and an ambulance and a GOOD DAMNED REASON FOR THE LEG HACKING and restraints).
I STRONGLY disagree that those who are prone to being treated poorly are solely at fault, and that is their personal responsibility to modify their behaviour. Again, this can be contextual:
I do not believe a woman should 'cover up' to avoid harrassment or assault, I do not believe a man needs to 'alpha up' avoid disrespect, I do not believe someone should discard aspects of their 'minority' heritage to be accepted, I do not believe that discouraging subcultures will lead to a stronger community.
I think that EMPHASIZING tolerance, inclusion and acceptance is MORE PRODUCTIVE than encouraging shaming, blaming and hiding.
I realise the issue of Discrimination is WAY bigger and more complicated than a journal on the internet essentially saying "The world be a better place if people were just NICER to each other." can adequately discuss, and I don't claim any authority on the matter, I accept there will be people who will disagree with me or can and will pull apart the things I've said here.
All I know is that I'm not the person I was 15 years ago, and I don't know who I will be in 15 years, but I hope I will be a better person, or at least, no worse.
And the person I currently am didn't feel like being quiet for once.
I want a better world; I don't want to nihilistically accept that sometimes me or my friends need to keep our mouths shut or our Selves hidden to stay safe from fellow human beings.
I want to think that in another 50 years occurrences like Isla Vista and Ferguson are even more isolated and unheard of events.
Society has already come a long way, but it's nowhere near the best place to stop evolving. There may always be discrimination and xenophobia, but let's aim for less of it, without having to resort to monoculturalism. Let's try to INCORPORATE other cultures into current society (while trying to be mindful of what is and isn't Cultural Appropriation...which is it's own barrel of screaming lobsters right now).
Having a bindi, a particular type of head-covering, a particular style of beard, or an accent/difficulty learning a new language NOT be a catalyst for outrage or make people think that displaying such things would threaten to destabilise the fabric of an established community.
Personally, I'm all for Diversity, and the acceptance of those who are different, in big and small ways, but perhaps that is because I'm just a *gender/sex/ethnicity/follower of a certain religion/sexuality/part of a subculture*?
And if any of this makes me racist, well, I'll have to work on not being so, and I'm sorry for offending anyone.
Hopefully this is now out of my system and nothing will compel me to make a Part 3.
I will now hopefully return to being your irregularly scheduled art-maker/poster and if inking goes well over the next few days, next week I'll be able to open up for some commissions.
PS: I think mothers should be able to breast-feed OR bottle-feed in public without harrassment and that there should be more Men's Restrooms with Changing Stations, if there is no room to create a separate Unisex Changing Station.
To those who have managed to read part 1, Thank You, and I am sorry that I will likely repeat myself a few times below, but I know some people have limited time and won't be able to read both parts; some points are worth repeating.

I was the Racist all along? (PART 1)
General | Posted 11 years agoThis is a long journal, sorry. I broke it into two parts, which will hopefully make it a little easier to digest.
Part One is just the lead-up with some background information, so if you want to skip it, Part Two (link) is where I REALLY try to put my thoughts out there.
I rarely share my thoughts, feelings or opinions but this has been weighing on my mind for a while now.
I'm pretty sure FA's TOS prohibits me from naming the other person, and I'm pretty sure that includes linking to said person/journal. So I will stick to quoted excerpts.
I am aware that the Quotes don't give full justice or context to the original posts, but this journal is going to be long enough as it is.
I considered posting a screencap of the WHOLE journal with it's 250+ responses (with all names/icons blurred out) so people can read it all to get full context, but that involves a lot more folks than just me and the journal-maker. In the end I can't afford to put in the time needed to ensure everyone's anonymity.
I will NOT share the identity of the person who made the statements below, not even in Notes; I will appreciate it if it is NOT shared in the comments. However if they come across this journal and don't wish to remain Anonymous, they just have to let me know below.
A few weeks ago (August 20th, 2014), I came across a journal titled Racism vs Culturalism in America that read:
Now, I think we can all agree that racism is wrong. It shouldn't matter what color someone is, or what country their family was from. I know I don't give a shit, except for the sake of curiosity. The problem that we're currently facing is that racism and culturalism are getting lumped together as one topic...and they're not.
If some black guy walks by me in a tshirt and jeans, I'd barely notice, if at all. If I'm having a really good day on the other hand, I might say "hi", smile or wave like I would to anyone else. Same if they were hispanic, asian, Columbian, whatever. There's no difference there. So they have different skin or hair or whatever...who cares? They're another person just like me.
Now, if that person has a ghetto shirt and a gold chain and his pants sagged down to his fucking knees...yeah, I'm gonna notice that! He could be black, white, hispanic, anything...doesn't matter. It's not his color or origin that's making him stand out, it's his dress. It's his attitude. This person is clearly odd. They're dressing and behaving in a manner that sends up a red flag of "wtf?".
In other words, if you don't want to be treated like a minority, STOP DRESSING AND ACTING LIKE ONE. Srsly, you can buy a shirt and jeans from Wal-Mart for like 20 bucks. Go do it.
By the way, wearing a tee and jeans is not a "white thing". In fact, "traditional" white dress in the US would involve at the core a button-up shirt and either pants or slacks. That's been true since the Revolution. Tee shirts and jeans are an American thing. (Specifically, the t-shirt evolved out of US military undershirts from the 30's and 40's, and jeans were invented in the late 1800's but didn't become truly popular until the 1950's. The t-shirt and blue jeans combo is considered universally iconic of United States culture.) A universal style of dress that came about with the idea that anyone could wear it, which eventually included all races and genders. In fact, adopting a universal style of dress played a huge role in tearing down the walls of gender inequality, all the way back to female factory workers.
I'm not a huge fan of Star Trek, but there is one thing they got right. The Federation is made up of tons of species, but they all fly the same ships. They all wear the same uniforms. Even their casual clothes are similar but derived from a blending of various cultures. It's the difference between saying "This is an Officer who happens to be Klingon", and "This is a Klingon Officer". Sure, you go to their quarters and you'll see their culture...but it's not in your face. It's not flaunted in public. This is how you achieve an end to racial prejudice.
For anyone who would read this and bitch about how I'm telling them to "give up their culture" when they're in public, well...you're right! You're not Mexican! You're not African! You're not South American! You're not Canadian or Columbian or Jamaican or Indian or Israeli or Pakistani or Vietnamese or Japanese! YOU. ARE. A. UNITED. STATES. CITIZEN.
Act like it, fucknuggets.
I had several problems with this journal; while initially, it is complaining about a particular fashion, which i can understand, everyone has different tastes and some fashions are associated with potentially unfortunate folks. (I would give wide berth to a group of folks dressed in white peaked hoods for example, even if they were just sitting around having lunch, and I admit I wouldn't be sure what to make of a group of Nazis sitting around, when there isn't an anime or pop culture convention in town, or at least other cosplayers to give the scene context).
But the line that made this whole thing problematic for me is:
"In other words, if you don't want to be treated like a minority, STOP DRESSING AND ACTING LIKE ONE. Srsly, you can buy a shirt and jeans from Wal-Mart for like 20 bucks. Go do it."
This line is problematic because:
1; It moves away from ONE PARTICULAR FASHION TREND and associated stereotyped behaviour/attitudes and GENERALISES that MINORITIES should stop dressing and acting a certain way.
2; It implies that a person who is not a minority, but is adopting the fashion and characteristics of a particular subculture or ethnicity should be expected to be treated poorly.
3; It implies that someone OF ANY GIVEN MINORITY GROUP expressing their personal identities should expect to be treated poorly.
4; It implies everyone has $20 to just go and change their wardrobe in an instant...1 change of clothes wouldn't make a lick of difference to someone's overall fashion-statement either, except on the days they're wearing JUST a less baggy t-shirt and less baggy pair of jeans.
5; It implies that someone of a minority group dressing and acting a certain way WILL be treated better, if they fit into a narrower set of acceptably visual attributes.
6; It ignores the fact that that is usually not enough to avoid discrimination.
7; It ignores the fact, that, when someone is a minority, EVERYTHING they do is intrinsically 'dressing and acting' like a minority, even if it involves a powder blue tuxedo and a Nobel Peace prize.
8; It IGNORES the fact that there are still a number of people who will look RIGHT PAST a calm, polite demeanour, and 'acceptable' clothing, and see some kind of stereotype FIRST AND FOREMOST.
Admittedly, this was pointed out to the journal maker, and they agreed that those people who discriminate are problematic.
But even then I found the way they responded to the fact also somewhat problematic.
What I'm talking about isn't something you can just label as "bigotry", like it's just some social issue to be dealt with. We're talking about something fundamental to the entire scope of nature. Not just humans, we're talking from the mightiest wild cat to the lowliest dormouse. That truth is simple:
Different is bad.
Nothing you, or I, or anyone in ten billion years of this planet is going to say or do will ever change that fact. It is intrinsic. It is fundamental. Now, I'm not saying it isn't unfortunate. I'm not saying it doesn't suck. I'm saying that's what is. It always has been, and I don't see that ever changing.
The only way you can end prejudice of any kind, anywhere, is to de-emphasise differences and emphasize similarities. Yes, I am talking about a certain amount of conformity, but that's the only way this works. However, since we're a planet of many countries, there's also choice. You can choose, but then you're going to have to conform at least for the most part, or else there's consequences.
That's just life. :/
I had intended to not respond. As I said at the start of this journal,I rarely share my thoughts, feelings or opinions. I am very introverted and I don't usually feel comfortable opening myself up to people I don't know; this was no exception, but after that particular response (to a friend of mine who had made several intelligent and insightful posts) I decided to take the plunge and toss in my two cents.
Rather than cut & paste my response, I will just supply a link:

The response I received back was this:
Sadly, I'm too tired to do any more long replies, so just read the dozen other long-ass ones I've done and hopefully you'll see what I'm getting it. :D
But I will give you a quick synopsis:
1. "Different is bad" is fundamental to nature. You can't change that.
2. A culture gains strength from incorporating differences. This is also true.
3. Emphasizing differences will always lead to conflict. Again, a fundamental truth.
Basically, contribute to the whole but don't stick out like a sore thumb. Be a part of where you live, not apart from it. That's my journal in a nutshell.
Also yes, t-shirts and jeans are actually American. Wiki that shit. :D
Fair enough, their response came in at 3am, I was asleep anyway.
So I did read the other responses they made to other people, which expanded on this summary, and I continued to be troubled. They hadn't answered a few of my questions and the expanded responses they had directed me to search for raised more questions (some of which were posted while I was still writing my initial response).
These fundamental truths they were repeating to other commenters distressed me, because I had seen these kinds of comments before, and the mindset that is usually behind them leaves me with a terrified knot in the pit of my stomach.
Because when enough people express this mindset, especially when they are the majority, ESPECIALLY when they are in power (which, statistically, usually involves people who represent the majority), those statements become more than an opinion and a less than a goose-step away from dehumanising a section of the population and denying them of basic human rights/freedom.
While these may seem contradictory, they're not. You'll never eliminate the majority of people noticing differences. That's never going to happen. But what you can do is minimize how much they react to the differences by removing as many as possible while introducing common ground.
The only other option is - as much as I hate to crush all the idealists replying to this journal - a pipe dream. People will never stop noticing and reacting to differences, but people can choose to be less different from the people around them, at least superficially. We can all change the way we dress, the way we talk, and the way we act. Anything beyond that is what people will just have to deal with.
I'm pretty sure you'd agree with me that you going around dressing like a street thug would not improve your life. In fact, it'd probably make it a lot worse.
My problem with people like you is that idealists don't understand that "different is bad" is fundamental to nature, and no amount of positive thinking or hope is going to change that. It's just what is. It's been true though all of human history and throughout the animal kingdom...as the default rule, mind you. Now, there are exceptions to every rule, but a few exceptions aren't going to change the fact that emphasizing your differences will invariably make your life harder because the people are definitely going to judge you for it. Removing superficial differences such as dress, speech and mannerisms reduces that "definitely" to just a "maybe", to where it becomes the exception instead of the rule.
What is "American" now came about through the influence and incorporation of tons of cultures and languages, exactly as America was intended to do. Take a bunch of bunch of wildly different stuff --> make new stuff that becomes uniquely American. The reason everyone who lives in the US should be on board with this is because we all helped make it. It is a new culture born from many old cultures.
What I love most is how many people tried to label this as "conformist" or "bigotry" or "nationalism". Like this is some debate. This is not a debate. This is fact. This is the entirety of human history. Nut, it just proves to me that people are more interested in having someone to blame than dealing with the ugly truth that life sucks and it's not fair.
Politeness and civility can give the appearance of acceptance, but they're not the same. That why you need that certain level of conformity, to remove the more overt differences that people - no matter how polite - never truly overlook.
I DON'T DISAPPROVE OF WHAT MAKES MEXICANS MEXICAN BEING OPENLY DISPLAYED WHEN THEY'RE IN MEXICO. But when you move to another country you adopt that country's speech and traditions when it comes to public behavior. PUBLIC behavior. That's basic fucking courtesy! And respect! But apparently respect is dead. Everyone just wants their entitlement. Everyone wants to be their special cultural snowflake and go around rubbing it in people's faces instead of making efforts to be an American and come together as a community, so FUCK IT ALL.
However, as this majority social culture of America grows, the belligerent minority cultures become more and more obvious, and thus there's more and more tension, leading to more and more conflict (including conflict between people of the same race separated by that division). I don't see this getting less prevalent, I see it happening more often, can't you see the same thing? It's inevitable. What I'm saying is that these groups deliberately choosing to stand apart could give a little and meet halfway. Make an effort to be some part of the majority culture. They don't have to stop being individuals, or forget where they came from. That's not even what this is about. A little compromise benefits everyone and our social future, that's what I'm saying.
These are SOME of the statements that fueled my next response, and I also requested some clarifications, because as they themselves had pointed out, some of their statements seemed contradictory.
CLICK HERE FOR MANY MORE WORDS
I never did receive a response to this one.
But, as I had been instructed, I read the Original Poster's responses to other Commenters. And I was getting more distressed and confused with each explanation or 'clarification'. I told myself I would not post further until I received a response.
So, after 2 days, and because of FURTHER statements such as the examples above, I began putting together a new response to address the various comments and accusations (mostly of racism) they were firing back to the people pointing out how racist the journal and statements were. I was losing sleep, I was distracted and short-tempered, I wasn't getting my work done; this was upsetting me severely. It had gotten under my skin, it had me deeply concerned. I was taking my time with my response because I wanted to make sure I wasn't just knee-jerk reacting to responses that weren't directed at me.
I have NO PROBLEM with Homogeny, I have NO PROBLEM with Unity. I have NO PROBLEM with compromise.
But I objected to the idea that Diversity somehow makes Unity impossible, and that Homogeny and Unity required GIVING UP or HIDING aspects of one's Self.
The PROBLEM that I kept having with these statements was that they EXPECT everyone to have the same definition of WHAT IS ACCEPTABLE.
That those who are marginalised KEEP THEIR HEAD DOWN to avoid mistreatment. They are putting more responsibility on the VICTIM to modify their behaviour so that the folks who DO discriminate never have to learn or change a damned thing.
There's a DIFFERENCE between being cordial, considerate and mindful of other people's comfort and having to retreat into the closet for fear of your life.
And then they made this edit to their journal:
Edit: Well, journal's over. Someone finally figured it out. I made a journal about obnoxious cultures that wasn't actually about racism but could easily be interpreted as racism by people who are - in fact - racist. Congratulations, you fell for it! I gave you the rope and you hung yourselves. So, for all the intelligent non-bigoted people reading this journal...here's all the racists on FA! Enjoy being exposed.
Gotcha.
Well, golly.
I sure did get drawn in by that Obvious Fake Racism, and possibly outed myself as a racist (as they don't clarify who WASN'T).
They state that their goal was to highlight that racists exist on FA, and that they succeeded.
Pointing out the existence of Racists and Racism didn't really do much to discuss the issue, so, I'm going to try to expand on MY thoughts on the subject of Discrimination.
So, obviously I've decided to branch off the journal here, so hopefully Part Two (link) isn't quite as cumbersome to get through.
Part One is just the lead-up with some background information, so if you want to skip it, Part Two (link) is where I REALLY try to put my thoughts out there.
I rarely share my thoughts, feelings or opinions but this has been weighing on my mind for a while now.

RIP: James Hardiman

My condolences to his family and friends.
I admired his ability to make what I felt were incredibly tactile looking creatures that could actually live and breathe if they existed beyond a drawn image.
I know his health had been working against him, and he was not expecting to be on this earth that much longer, but this was still sooner than expected.
I didn't really know him very well, though i recall him being encouraging and complimentary to a fanart I had made for him, and at times I would try to replicate the more cartoonish style he would occassionally employ. His art was very distinctly his and I've not seen much others like it.
It is hard to believe he is really gone.
He was one of a handful of artists I looked up to most when i was still new to this fandom.
...so the rest of you guys who I still admire better stick around. >:C
...Either way i don't think he was the type that cared much for moping and whining so later this evening I'll be posting a journal I spent a lot of time thinking about and had finally put together yesterday.

She has found some furs willing to help with the move.HOWEVER, the situation is still not so great.
We're talking about someone who has contributed to the fandom since the 80s, whose inking and painting, while i may not comment often, I really enjoy watching the progression of; I remember seeing her art here and there when i was just getting into the fandom, and feeling encouraged and inspired by the presence of an experienced female creator. I think she deserves more recognition. So if nothing else, please check out her art.

Weekend Report Journal
General | Posted 11 years ago...I was at an event over the weekend and it was fun even though for the life of me I can't remember why, what it was called or even how it happened (this is an in joke).
Shared a room with Netrogo,Sharei and furball, and man that bed was COMFY! The pillows were a little too squishy but some plumping and flailing usually got them to do what I needed.
Much to my shock and dismay Chazore commissioned me again, and I spent the rest of Friday wearing the evidence of this occurrence (were those tears streaks JUST drawn on? You decide).
Chaz aside I did actually get more commissions than I thought I would, so thank you all who commissioned me!
(I hope you can send scans or photos? c:>)
So a thank you to
chazore(?),
lorddexx,
nereza,
sethtriggs,
alexreynard,
alymae, and last minute badge commissioner
destinyfennec, y'all helped me pay for food and shelter. : U
I ended up buying every t-shirt design (last chance n' all), tho I may have to lose weight to fit into one of them, because they were out of my size...I haven't actually tried so for all I know it'll fit me fine; I just tend to wear my t-shirts a bit on the baggy side (oh and I got a shoulder-bag to go with the purchase, fweee!).
I also commissioned a really nifty chainmail bracelet from
-bunner-; I've barely stopped wearing it since I got it. : 3
Also, mah fellow dealers! it was great to share the Den with you all; even though I didn't get a chance to knife-pillow fight
eevachu. (Furnal maybe? *sharpens cushion*>:D)
Time for the Dealer Rap!
Sererenaowth,
Caltroplaygee,
Maxblackrabbitta,
stylewagerlit,
gNawmon,
strypekip,
cooperkin,
shareisey and
Furballo!.
Also, sometimes
Missmabeon was there. But she was elusive and legendary, but sighting were epic when you caught a glimpse!
Nemetfox Ketchum was an excellent Dealer Trainer!
And of course, big thanks to the guys... who.... um... were in.. charge...? You didn't... do.. a thing...?
I'm getting this unusual headache, I think I need beer and bbq chicken..... *wanders towards Rib-fest*
(tho seriously I am going to miss this convention, It was fun while It lasted, thanks for doing it for this long!)

Condition Vs The Monsters meme
General | Posted 11 years agoProud to be attending the final Condition Furry in London, Ontario (Canada). It's been a great run and I wish I could've made it to more of 'em, so hopefully I will be able to draw a lot of fun pics and get a little tipsy, because these guys are apparently rad influences on me. >:Y
What table are you at?
No table numbers, so here's a link to the layout! (LINK)
As with Anthrocon I am sharing it with
Caltroplay. : )
What should I call you?
I respond positively to 'Kev'.
Age?
33
What do you look like?
5'3", dark brown hair (usually in a bun or braid), pale, vaguely asian, chubby, possibly atrocious make-up, depending on how savvy and steady my hands were this morning, or how late I woke up.
Where/how can I find you?
Pretty much gunna be spending the bulk of the convention at my Dealer Table.
Do you smoke?
Nope.
How are you getting there?
Smuggled in the back.
Which days will you be attending?
All of them. ALL.
Do you do requests?
Not really, unless you're like, "DRAW ON MY CHILD."...then definitely No.
Do you do trades?
I'd say yes but you may not see your sketchbook for at least a year or two..
Do you do commissions?
That's what I'll be offering at my table, as well as some of the usual merch; if you've considered purchasing my merchandise but haven't gotten around to it, this'll be the year to do it!: )
Espc. because I don't think I'll be making it to Furnal Equinox next year.
Any specific plans for the con?
Meet you guys, draw some art, make some money, attempt to not get/give con crud, perhaps eat some sushi...mmm... sushi... fend of
Chazore with ridiculous additional fees. *prepared a price quote ahead of time* >: Y
Can I talk to you?
Sure! I may keep drawing but unless it's unusually loud in the Den I'll be listening and responding.
As long as I'm not in a DnD/Pathfinder session, sure, I guess so?
Do you go to parties?
Paaah-teeeee?
What is the best way to reach you?
Y'know what, if I can get my new phone working properly, you'll be able to contact me through Twitter where-ever I find internet access: @TheBovinian I might even remember to tweet things!
Otherwise, FA.
Soooooo... see some of y'all on Friday-Sunday! :X

[HELP]1st Time Anthrocon Goal
General | Posted 11 years agoSo before I get another distracting, somewhat potentially big life event come my way I will write and post this journal promoting a friend of mine!
Lucheek is a sweetheart who I've known for the last 6+ years and we (myself, and several mutual friends) adore her and would love to meet her in person; and the place most of us will likely be at the same time is Anthrocon! So, for Anthrocon 2015, Lucheek is doing a fundraiser to get herself there (because we of the 'Bring Lucheek to Anthrocon' Club can only contribute so many funds, because life/bills/other fiscal responsibilities we wish we could put off but can't). AND IT INCLUDES REWARDS! (most of the art based ones being time sensitive).
So please check out her FA GALLERY, and her spiffy new WEBCOMIC 'Sacred Geometry' or go straight to her Fundraiser Journal (LINK) to see exactly what's what.
I've got my eye on the Viking badge tier myself. My buffalo will have additional horns because I'm anachronistic like that (yes I know Viking helmets didn't have horns), Sif help me!: Y
There's commission rewards as well as nifty vlog rewards... or there's straight up commissions; she is open for commissions if you want a pic for your buck(s).<X D
And her prices are hella reasonable.
So if you're inclined, please help me help one of my friends attend Anthrocon and meet up with a bunch of friends for the first time. No hard feelings if you can't or won't though, everyone has their own priorities and such, we understand that. : )
Thanks for checking out this journal: now I must get back to my regularly scheduled backlog/art grind; these fingers won't turn into nubs on their own and boy do I have more reason to double time than ever.

The Con-Cruddening 2014
General | Posted 11 years agoActually I'm just a little congested; something that was already a thing before Anthrocon.: X
I saw a wild beaver and experienced Cracker Barrel for the first and second time on the way to the convention and I am thoroughly charmed and entirely too excited by the existence of the place. Not sure when I'll get to go to one again, but I hope I do at some point.
I had a great time this Anthrocon! Met and got to know better several folks; missed a few though because I tried to stay pinned to my table if I wasn't hovering for the promise of Wyrms. (Sorry for hovering,I tried not to).
Thanks to everyone who got me to and from the convention, stopped by my table, or yammered with me when I was not at the table, and forgave me for kidnapping them into the Wyrm Collective, turned previous commissions in business cards and who've +Watched me on top of all that!
Milano's Café continues to be DELICIOUS AND AWESOME, and I now regret not finishing the rest of that personal pizza cos it was SO GOOD but my appetite was abysmal that evening. x.x;
I... think I ate at other points during the convention but I don't recall.
I made some make-up efforts this year and I'll give myself a C+ for Friday & Saturday but a B- for Sunday, although I think the make-up remover gave me a slight rash. :c
Waterproof eye-liner is a BEAST.
Got a nasty blister on Friday because I was rushing back and forth with my shoe not strapped on properly but was too busy freaking out to stop (that'll teach me to leave half my art supplies/displays in the room during set up).
There was a Hash Run going on one evening and I yammered with one of the participants who was very bubbly and friendly and made me want to get back into running even though I haven't done it since I was 9.<X D
Maybe if they're having another run at the same time as next Anthrocon... I'll bring my running shoes, etc.
Saturday and Sunday saw me largely hermitting in the hotel room after Dealer Den hours to get work done. I think I did okay this year, but discussions came up about speed and compensation, so I will likely be raising my prices a little next year, though a blown bluff will likely see my Sketch Prices almost doubling because I keep my word like that...Will likely happen DURING Anthrocon 2015 unless my friends and Managers insist I do so sooner, but I guess it depends whether/when/what I open for commissions again between now and then.
I will however be working out something I can still do for $20 or so. Probably tightened blue sketches; I'm still debating.
I forgot to get autographs from the Guests of Honour. :c
I DID receive a 5lb bag of Monkey Munch through a friend's fan, and IT IS DELICIOUS. Now if only I had some milk. <X P
I also got an adorably evil picture-gift from
drakefenwick, whose sketchbook I accidentally stole because I forgot I was meant to run straight back to the dealers den with it on Sunday. I need to scan the picture I did, later.
ANYWAY.
Taking a few days to recover from the convention before I get stuck back in to my backlog. I plan to work on owed art to
missmab,
cheetahjab and
Tacticus as well as a liberal sprinkling of working on stuff for
TheSovereignofCarpalTunnels, including redrawing the progress I had made during my family reunion because it mysteriously vanished. o.<
And somewhere in there I need to work on my YCHs, cos I have some new ideas I'd like to put out there for the next batch.
Next convention is Condition vs Monsters in London, Ontario, on August 1-3 and I plan to give my liver a little extra exercise (BOOZE, I'm talking about BOOZE).
That's all I can think of to write.
Thanks again everyone, this was lots of fun.: )

Y'know what, if I can get my new phone working properly, you'll be able to contact me through Twitter where-ever I find internet access: @TheBovinian I might even remember to tweet things!
I had hoped to have some new merch this year but unfortunately, didn't quite make my deadline... so back to my Backlog mines once AC is done (sorry again to those who've been waiting so long).
Whew... it's been quite a month... See some of y'all in person in July!: )
Dealer's Table A08, with a ball behind us; sharing it with
Caltroplay. : )What should I call you?
I respond positively to 'Kev'.
Age?
33
What do you look like?
5'3", dark brown hair (usually in a bun or braid), pale, vaguely asian, chubby, possibly atrocious make-up, I'm tempted to try wearing some this year.
Where/how can I find you?
Pretty much gunna be spending the bulk of the convention at table A08.
Do you smoke?
Nope.
How are you getting there?
Hiding in the backseat.
Which days will you be attending?
Pretty much all of them, I believe.
Do you do requests?
Probably not.
Do you do trades?
I'd say yes but you may not see your sketchbook for at least a year or two..
Do you do commissions?
That's what I'll be offering at my table, as well as some of the usual merch; if you've considered purchasing my merchandise but haven't gotten around to it, this'll be the year to do it!: )
(I may be slashing some prices on older merch).
Any specific plans for the con?
Meet you guys, draw some art, make some money, attempt to not get/give con crud, perhaps eat some sushi...mmm... sushi...
Can I talk to you?
Sometimes its REALLY hard to hear conversations in the dealer's den but I'll try to listen.: )
That is largely up to the group I am with, but if you find me in the zoo, feel free to say hello.: )
Do you go to parties?
Paaah-teeeee?
What is the best way to reach you?

Out of Town (AFK/BRB)
General | Posted 11 years agoJust a heads up to everyone; heading out of town for the next 10 days for a family event.
Been freaking out about it for pretty much all of May, because who knew trying to books tickets and line up schedules to match up with other family members would be so hectic? x.x;;;
Anyway, between the almost guaranteed complete lack of internet access and the fact that I'll be within proximity of at least 1 family member at all times, so there's pretty much only 1 commission piece I can bring to work on, unfortunately, otherwise I'd be bringing more.
And when I get back, gunna be aiming to finish up more backlog; including the last Wing-It from my recent batch and the YCH pieces. And if I can fit it in, finish some art for a AC portfolio release.
Back on to the travel; it's been a while since I've traveled this far, and there's some new travel elements I've never done before on top of it. However I have been expertly shoosh-papped by various friends for the last few days so I'm not quite as nervous as I was.<X P
So, here's hoping my new shoes don't give me horrendous blisters and I'll see y'all again in a little over a week.: )
And if this is anything like my previous family visits, when I get home, I'll be so happy to get back to work that I'll be twice as productive. XD

Wing-It "Colour-Sketch" Wed #7 CLOSED
General | Posted 11 years agoOn the Menu this week: Coloured Sketch Wing-Its.
Last batch of commissions I'll be taking for a few months, at least.
Wing-It*= I decide what's going on in the picture; you supply the character(s) and rating! If you have personal Submissions and/or visible Faves I may try to get an idea of what you may like to receive from those.
REMINDER: Because I ended up putting a regular amount of work into the colouring than I had initially planned to, I'm bringing the price up to $50 per character/slot, maximum of 2 in a picture, per customer, for now.
NOTE: Props/Backgrounds in Wing-its are completely COMPLETELY an anomaly;I have no idea how far my inspiration may take me in the moment i sit down and start sketching these! Tips are appreciated if a drawn background is added though, but not required or expected.
RULES
1- Comment below the journal! Please include link(s) to the character you wish to have Wing-It'd even if I have drawn them before.
Please specify "Clean Preferred", "XXX Preferred", or "Any rating ".
Good Examples:
"Here's my character, just have fun; any rating is fine."
"It's not clear but my character is digigrade. Also chaste and innocent, not sexual at all, clean preferred, tasteful, none revealing nudity is also acceptable!"
"Just draw one of your own characters. Clean or adult, up to you!"
Not so good Examples:
"This character dancing around in pajamas; how she is dancing and what kind of pajamas is up to you."
"Oh man, that idea I had 3 months ago that I told you about, can you draw that for my wing-it?"
"Can you draw this other person's character? They don't do anything sexy with them but they're so hot, so, adult preferred!"
2- Keep an eye on your Notes; I will let you know asap if you've gotten a slot and ask for some further information; it's a bit klunky but I'm trying to keep records of commission transactions. The sooner you respond the sooner I can process payments and get you fully confirmed on the list.
3- I will wait up to 25 hours after opening for commissions for payment, or the slot will be passed down to the next person in the comments. Paying within 3 hours is highly appreciated, however.
4- Anonymity and Privacy are not available for Wing-Its.
5- Feel free to tell me a little about the character such as personality or occupation(if not apparent in refs): Warm, shy, uptight good aligned warlock, flirty, aggressive, submissive, kind and friendly, constantly stressed and fearful because their home country is on the verge of war, rich, poor, hardworking, dominant, etc but try to avoid describing situations and scenerios you want to see them in.
6- If you would like me to draw another person's character, please have them contact me that it's okay for me to draw it for you! *Sometimes it is hard to tell who are friends and who are not*
7- PLEASE REMEMBER: In a Wing-it commission, I decide how the character is depicted!
7a-If you have personal Submissions and/or visible Faves I may try to get an idea of what you may like to receive from those. I'm not aiming to do art people won't like but I'm also trying to have some fun and surprise people, so if you have very specific things you definitely want to direct me to do you might want to sit these out, because, sure, I may observe that you particularly enjoy, say, giant girls covered in glowing Yakuza style tattoos and stomping on vehicles and swallowing by-standers, pantiless...I'm not going to produce exactly that.
PRICING:
Coloured Sketch Wing-It: $50 (per character/slot, maximum of 2).
+$15 (per character) for complicated details/designs.
+$10 for postage (just the b/w sketch since the colouring is digital & I don't have a colour printer...I can likely send you a high-res you can print yourself, if requested).

Bride of Wing-It Wednesday Commissions
General | Posted 11 years agoAnnouncement Commissions opening for April 30th, 2014 at 7pm EST:
Wing-It*= I decide what's going on in the picture; you supply the character(s) and rating!
Welp, thinking of closing out April with another round of $50 Coloured Sketch Wing-its. Not sure how many slots I'll make available; considering 3 or 5, with an additional floating slot either way...
Likely won't be doing commissions again until late June, maybe even as far off as August. Going to see how things go; planning on clearing off more backlog between this batch and then, just wanna be able to cover a couple more bills while I'm working on 'em.
Rules for Wing-Its can be viewed here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5649292/
Rule Addendum: I'm dropping the '2 Slots per customer Limit', but am going to insist that folks don't plan for more than 2 characters a picture (more than 2 characters interacting increases the chances of smudging, which is time consuming and difficult to fix).
In other news, I have a Family Gathering(TM) coming up in June, and it's really stressing me out. There's long travel involved, shoes and clothing I probably need to buy so I look presentable and expectations of me that I am likely drumming up to be worse in my head than they will be. I haven't seen most of them in 7+ years, so hopefully they'll just be happy to see me and the worst I'll have to deal with is the temperature and sibling sass. How the heck did I manage to grow up there??
Either way, I've grown far too accustomed to being allowed to have my own opinions and agency, so I'm feeling very whiny about having to smile and nod for less than a fortnight. I'm pretty sure part of it is just me hearing things with a condescending edge that is actually not there, and I need to hurry up and be a grown up around them or I'll be miserable the entire time I'm there... The hardest part will be NOT being defensive... Or dismissive, I suppose, which then fills me with guilt. Hrm... well, I dunno, I've never been too great about mot feeling like I don't measure up in my family, even though I know it's likely 60% me doing it (at this point, anyway). So I need to work on that.
Bleh. ANYWAY, positive thoughts! Upcoming More-Fun-Less-Shaming Trips are Anthrocon and Condition Furry VS MONSTERS, and I hope to see you there! : )

Wing-It*= I decide what's going on in the picture; you supply the character(s) and rating! If you have personal Submissions and/or visible Faves I may try to get an idea of what you may like to receive from those.
REMINDER: Because I ended up putting a regular amount of work into the colouring than I had initially planned to, I'm bringing the price up to $50 per character/slot, maximum of 2 per customer, for now.
RULES
1- Comment below the journal! Please include link(s) to the character you wish to have Wing-It'd even if I have drawn them before. Feel free to specify "Clean Preferred", "XXX Preferred", or "Any rating ". (Journal comments are given priority over Private Messages)
SFW EXAMPLE 1!
SFW EXAMPLE 2!
(NOTE: Props/Backgrounds in Wing-its are completely COMPLETELY an anomaly;I have no idea how far my inspiration may take me in the moment i sit down and start sketching these! Tips are appreciated if a drawn background is added though, but not recquired or expected.)
Coloured Sketch Wing-It CLOSED
1-rick2tails COMPLETED! (original to be mailed)
2-redadillio COMPLETED
3-hyenafur COMPLETED(original to be mailed)

PS: Anyone who misses out on a Coloured-Sketch Wing-it tonight, I currently intend to open again next week, so good luck for then!
I'll do a reminder journal on Monday, to at least confirm whether I'll open again or not. And if you have any questions about wing-it commissions, feel free to ask!
( I haven't forgotten the backlogged art I have and have been slowly working on, in case anyone was wondering. If you don't see your name on the lists, feel free to let me know! Except the YCH winners, because I'm not sure where to place you, but I haven't forgotten you guys either!)

Return of Wing-It Wednesdays
General | Posted 11 years agoWing-It*= I decide what's going on in the picture; you supply the character(s) and rating! If you have personal Submissions and/or visible Faves I may try to get an idea of what you may like to receive from those.
THAT'S RIGHT, the Coloured Sketch Wing-Its are back on the menu!
The hefty bill from earlier has been covered, which leaves me bereft of the moneys once again. And because I ended up putting a regular amount of work into the colouring than I had initially planned to, I'm bringing the price up to $50 per character for now, and seeing how that works out.
As before, I still have backlogs I need to work on; I don't want to take on more big commissions and tack them to the bottom of the list if i can help it, nor let them skip the queue, at the same time I don't want to take dozens of smaller, cheaper commissions because they would overwhelm me very rapidly and put a longer delay on the backlog, not to mention getting art burn-out again. Thus, the experiment continues.
The plan, as before, is to take Wing-It commissions, try to finish those over the course of a few days, and spend the rest of the time working on getting backlog art done. I'm only human and sometimes the timing doesn't quite pan out ideally, but that is my goal and it's been going OK I think.
This Wednesday at 7pm EST, April 9th, I will open 3 slots for COLOURED SKETCHES.
SFW Examples: LINK, LINK
As stated above; the price is $50 PER CHARACTER/SLOT (you can only claim a maximum of 2)
A fee of +$15 will apply for complicated characters/designs (I'll let you know once I've seen the character(s) if it will apply.)
Postage to receive the original(s) is an additional +$10
To expand/clarify the Wing-It Rules:
1- Comment below the journal! If you're keen, post link(s) to the character you wish to have Wing-It'd. Feel free to specify "Clean Preferred", "XXX Preferred", or "Any rating ".
Good Examples:
"Here's my character, just have fun; any rating is fine."
"It's not clear but my character is digigrade. Also chaste and innocent, not sexual at all, clean preferred, tasteful, none revealing nudity is also acceptable!"

Good grief;Furnal Equinox!
General | Posted 12 years agoThat sure was a thing I did over the weekend!
Arrived on Friday, was surprised to find Dealers didn't have their own Registration line, but it got sorted out after a bit.
The Den definitely saw more people in it than last year. Many cute costumes were observed, which I attribute to the Kyary Pamyu Pamyu concert that was in town. I opted to not go... but it sure sounded like it was fun! Was an oddly sleepy time for me and a lot of the ppl I interacted with...still, things went well, I think! Tried Popeye's Chicken for the first time ever too; ok, that's some good stuff, and I want more! 8X
Still haven't tried the fries there yet... one day...
Saturday rolls in, another busy day in the Dealer's Den, still working a lot slower than i expect to, but I do finish a bunch of stuff. Plans were hatched for Anthrocon; you'll all jsut have to wait and see. : B
Stayed up most of the night and watched the Moon set with my roomies; we were all being art machines; and then Daylight Savings kicked us in the taint. *shakes fist*
Sunday: Finished what I could, realised most of everything I had left were Take-Homes, worked a little on those. Had some language barrier issues with one commission, but I think we sorted it out.
Headed home, had feels, and was treated to s'more Popeye's, and feel inclined to come and Dealer's Den again next year!
Bonus days:
Monday- Chilled, worked on some art, followed up on a take-home.
Tuesday- Noticed my art-tablet may be busted, tried not to panic. Did what work I could on a backlog piece with my mouse, just waiting to hear back from the client in case the tablet remains funky and I have to either get a new one or switch to a cell shaded commission.
Wednesday: OH HEY THAT'S TODAY! Gunna be packing for my move this weekend, so for the next few days I doubt I'll get any more art done, not sure how long it'll take me to settle in, but I'm optomistically saying Monday.
Also, there is a blizzard. My first Snow Storm! 8U
I'm trying not to let it distract me.
So in closing, thank you so much to everyone who let me hang out, said hello and helped me out in some way; it was all much appreciated and I hope to see you again next year, if not sooner! This report hasn't been too flash but I did have fun at the convention and look forward to going next year. Thank you all, I'll be getting back to my homework and backlog soon, thanks for your patience!

General | Posted 12 years agoInstead of Wing-Its this week I decided to make use of some rough sketches I never got around to finishing up due to loss of inspiration or time but didn’t feel like discarding completely... And I've seen other artists do this and it just seemed like an interesting thing to try.
I know some people really hate YCH style commissions, but I don’t plan on making this a regular thing, just something else I may offer from time to time. I certainly have been enjoying the Wing-Its and will do those again in the future. Speaking of which, first person to notice this sentence before March 2nd 2014 and comment below as per the last few Colour-Sketch Wing-It rules gets.. a $40 coloured-sketch wing-it slot. <XD
And heck if time permits I may even offer none wing-it commissions again before Anthrocon!
And I would’ve posted this journal at 7pm as per usual but the power has been flickering on and off all day and I lost my first draft and subsequently some of my temper.> : T
Anyway, thanks for your support these last few weeks, and if you have any (positive) suggestions on how to handle YCH stuff, please feel free to share it!

EDIT: Congrats to
fulminar for finding the hidden Wng-It commission slot. XD
